How do I update my rooted S7? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Model SM-G930U
version 6.0.1
Where do I go to update it to the latest version and will I lose my root? Thanks a lot.

You can take a Step Back Or Can Jump a Few Steps Forward.
First How To get Stock Latest.
1:Unroot your Phone.(go to supersu>settings>Unroot Complete Unroot)
2:Go to settings>Update.
If that didn't work try A full firmware flash from Odin on Pc
Or you can Flash TWRP and can have Custom ROMs and better functionality

What firmware do I flash using Odin for the latest s7 att upgrade? Do I just flash on top of my current or do I have to unroot first?

No.You don't Need To Unroot Or Do Anything.Just Backup Your Data. You will Lose Root after The Firmware Flash.
You need Either a specific Region Firmware Or Anything That Isn't corrupted.
Go here and Fill out the form and Download the firmware.Latest Is 7.0
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s7/SM-G930U/
If It is not the latest Then After flashing Go to settings About Device and Bang On Device Updates.
Again You'll lose your Root.

[Q] UPDATE

Hallo.... Guys, new android updates are coming. After root its not possible to get OTA update. What is the plan ? i mean, this thread its going to be about the ways how to update our beloved ZOOM to the newest firmware.
QUESTIONS ARE:
It is someone going to work on root for 4.3 - 4.4 ?
It is better to "stay" on stock firmware ?
How its possible (where to download) to flash the stock ? (unrooted)

Rooting and OTA

A very quick clarification needed :
I'm running 4.1.2. Want to root in order to remove the bloatware so that I can increase free ram and hence the overall performance. I won't install any custom ROMs, kernels or any mods. Just remove bloatware for the above reason.
After I root my phone, when the official 4.3 firmware for my country(India) releases, if I flash it via Odin, will the root go away ? And also, is flashing via Odin and 4.3 OTA the same in terms of the performance/battery/stability issues of the phone? I mean, can I just root now and flash the official 4.3 later or just wait for the OTA?

Hello buddy I'm from India too.
Just root the phone and when 4.3 comes out just flash it via odin and that will remove root. If you use ODIN no need to OTA.
Also if you cant wait like me you can install 4.3 ML2 rom via odin too.

But updating any firmware using OTA is better or flashing it via odin is better? I feel OTA is more safe, it won't have any negative consequences. And flashing it via odin might have few negative consequences on the stability. Is it true?!

Firmware update with mobile odine is possible?

is possible preserve the root updating the fw with mobile odin? How?
Thanx
updating firmware will clear root access, just get re-root the phone once you've updated assuming it's android 5

Yes. If you are in KK stock untouched, then the L upgrade should only just upgrade your software version without wiping anything.

No update for my s6 edge?

I can't update from 5.0.2 to 5.1.1, there's no updates available so is there a way to upgrade through odin or anything?

If you go to sammobile.com and sign up you can download the latest firmware for your device amd you need the ssung dtivers and odin flashable zip. All you need for odin is downloading it from a link on sammobile and look up on google how to update from 5.0.2 to 5.1.1 for the s6/edge debices and youll find several step by step instructions.

I want to flash to CM13 but I am at Lollipop and rooted with TWRP

I saw a same thread but i am using KII-L22
what should i do first? i think i had a backup where i am still unrooted but already have TWRP.
my guess is that I should reflash to stock recovery first then update via OTA to marsh mallow then root and install TWRP again then flash CM13.
if my guess is correct then how do I revert from TWRP to stock recovery?

Grab the stock recovery of KII-L22 and flash it using fastboot. Same way you flashed TWRP.

Do you have a firmware online on Huawei website or in 5X file repository.
If yes, just use huawei update extractor to extract stock recovery.img from it.
That's it! Search for any KII-L22 stock firmware then extract the stock recovery from it.

will it work even if the stock rom is from MM not Lollipop? can't seem to find the Lollipop version.
if its compatible then this will make it easier since ill use the full stock rom after flashing the recovery

I suppose it will still work. Recoveries are seldom tweaked.

It's better to be safe than sorry
Just google huawei firmware finder by team MT, install and I am sure you can use it to search a lollipop firmware for your phone.
If you want to install MM directly then get MM firmware, extract recovery, flash it and use three button method to update.
You will lose all your data in this way.
i found what you were referring to sir adrian. i will give it a shot and give feedback. thanks everyone.

I have a similar problem here: I have an unlocked and rooted KIW-L21C432 with Resurrection Remix installed and a backup (B140 firmware version) where I already have TWRP installed as the recovery but am not rooted yet. I want to go back to stock in order to be able ro get the OTA for MM and then install the most recent Resurrection Remix ROM.

So, what would be the procedure for me?
Flash the (unrooted) B140 backup using TWRP.
Use fastboot to flash the correct stock recovery from the honor 5X file depot issueing:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
.
Upgrade to the most recent firmware version B340 via OTA update.
Flash most recent TWRP version using fastboot:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp_kiwi.img
.
Root and flash CustomROM.
Is this correct? Is there any smarter way to achieve the official update to MM (like those full revert packages I read about)?
What if my backup was rooted already? Would this lead to any problems? I am not 100% sure whether I was maybe already rooted when I did the initial backup :/
Thanks and best regards

How exaxtly can I tell? It was rooted when I was still on 5.1.1 (firmware version B140), so I'm not sure whether it's systemless root or not.
Then flash full B330:
http://download-c.huawei.com/download/downloadCenter?downloadId=90763&version=354362&siteCode=fr-h
Put the (uncompressed) DLOAD folder at the root of your SD Card.
Power up the phone with Vol up & vol down pressed, then release once you show the logo, it will automatically flash the rom.
Once done, you are on stock unrooted B330, then you can boot/flash TWRP, then finally flash CM13.
