T Mobile SIM card that came with N8 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

Should I be using the new sim card or putting it in another way, is there any benefit of using the new sim that came with the note 8 ?
I'm currently using my old sim card, lost track on how old it is. Probably two years old.

So it would be best to call T Mobile and have the new sim connected with my existing number ?

My T-Mobile SIM that I had since 2013 always worked when traveling overseas. Never had an issue with either data or phone calls.

GSM?

So I've been reading on these forums that some roms don't have gsm working. Can someone explain what gsm is and what it does? Sorry for noob question.

"Global System for Mobile Communications"
This technology uses a small SIM card to contain the mobile phone details such as your phone number & etc. This allows one to swap the SIM card into another phone and have it simply work. The SIM card can also store a limited number of phone numbers. The technology is used everywhere in the world, but only on AT&T and T-Mobile in America.

Not sure to understand since I'm not in those carrier and I can swap my SIM card into any other phone and it will still work. I'm in Canada and this works for any carrier for all I know. The SIM also contains phone numbers and can hold a bunch of SMS.

I forgot about the SMS storage. Your SIM card can be put into any other GSM phone. It could not be put into a Verizon phone, for example.

Sim card in my note 3

Hi guys,
I went to best buy today and got my note 3. When I got home I found there's a sim card already put in the sim card slot. I am puzzled, last time I see this was on my touch pro 2, and I was told by sprint customer service representative that the sim card in my touch pro 2 was actually a gsm sim card for the purpose of international roaming. That makes sense, so I bought that story.
When I look at this sim card in my note 3, I'm wondering what is it used for? Since I believe sprint note 3 uses embedded sim card to store cdma+lte keys I suppose this actual sim card in the slot is not used for that purpose. Could it also be a sim card used for international roaming? Or is it the case that the embedded sim card stores cdma keys and this actual sim card stores lte keys, like verizon phones?
Thanks for any input that could clarify this.
Cheers
Listen... I work for sprint .. that sim card is for international use .. How it works is .. If you have the phone active on your line for more then 90 days then call in to the international department and tell them u want unlock the SimCard . Then u can use the sim or take it out and use a sim card from another country

So this is just like the old days, a free useless international gsm sim card coming along with a new phone. Thanks trabent, you helped a lot clarifying my confusion.
The sim is also used for LTE on sprint.

It can be unlocked on day one. There is no 90 waiting. If it hasn't been on your account for 90 days they call you to ask you a few questions then unlock it. Put the unlock request in one day one then they called me back the next day to unlock it.

NOTE III have Sim Slot

Since our Sprint Note III have sim slot, will it be able to activate under different carriers that uses SIM card?
No, unfortunately the sim card is only used for international use and not for the actual phone number on the account.

From what I've read, the SIM card is also used for 4GLte. If you check another thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46574528&postcount=8 one of the members found that his SIM card # didn't match what Sprint had so his 4GLte didn't work. Once they updated the number to match, 4GLte was restored to his phone.

So I recently purchased this phone and I discovered that my mobile data doesnt work. How do I fix this?
Have you turned it on? You have to turn it on once you select the sim card slot

S9+ signal issues

I recently picked up an unlocked verizon s9+. I have no service at all. I flashed the u1 firmware thinking that would fix the problem no luck. I put my sim in and it reset to configure for the sim still no service. My s7 edge has 2 bars and my wife's s8 has 3 so its not that I'm in a hole. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are phone calls and texts working? Have you checked the IMEI of the device to see if the phone has been blacklisted? Verizon would probably tell you, or there are various websites on the internet.
Other than that, what carrier Sim are you using in the phone, and have you made sure that the APN got set up properly? Hope you get it working!

Possibly a bad SIM card, or SIM card reader. Have you tried another SIM card that you know works?

Sounds like it could possibly be the IMEI or the Sim reader? Either way hopefully you can contact the seller, or if it's the sim reader hopefully it still has warranty with Samsung.

When you go into settings/about phone/status/SIM card status, is anything showing as if the phone is reading the SIM card? And have you checked on the IMEI?

It shows the sim as "not in service". Haven't checked imei. Dropped it off at the repair place I bought it from.

That's good you got your money back. Probably somebody reported the phone lost or stolen or defaulted on the payments and now the IMEI is blacklisted. That's my guess anyway.

There are some okay vendors on eBay, I got mine from a mostly accurate vendor, phone was new and unlocked but originally from Verizon even though it was advertised as factory unlocked. Luckily I was able to flash it over and turn it into a perfect deal for myself. Good luck, and pop your sim into the phone first if you buy in person.
Picked up another for a descent price. Getting better signal than the 7 edge. Took your advice and checked real good.
