Streaming YouTube, Wifi vs Cellular - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

First off I'm sorry if I'm too dim to understand (I've searched and don't think I've found an answer) what I've read online. What really burns my a$$ is that I have this fancy, expensive and powerful hardware, yet when it comes to watching YouTube vids, anything of a higher resolution than 420p ( on cellular data), results in buffering. While at home on my much slower wifi network, I can watch 1440p vids buffer free! I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan so if I were able to while not at home I'd like to watch vids at the highest possible resolution available. What am I missing? Is it something hardcoded in the YouTube app itself? Take a look at my download speeds on wifi vs cellular.

I only get 5 to 20 mbps on Sprint and my streaming is fluid...there must be something blocking ... does T-Mobile throttle video streaming?

I have no idea. Maybe they do?

I'm also on the grandfatherd Simple choice plan. If you log into My TMobile website is BingeOn activated? I think if it is then you are restricted to 420p when on their network LTE.

I had a look and am not sure if mine was already on. It's definitely on now, but so far I see no difference! Even playing vids on 1080p on cellular results in buffering and a bad viewing experience. This is no longer acceptable! I did learn that vids play by default at 480p, ridiculous! Are other carriers this way?
Binge On doesn't save me anything, I have truly unlimited, unthrottled data from 2006. Am I wrong?

Yup, I'm on a grandfathered unlimted no throttle plan also. When BingeOn was released my streaming speeds went to crap. Default is on. Turned it off and everything went back to normal & it has been off ever since.

I haven't done this yet for the strangest of reasons. Using that app reminds me of all the measures I had to take to keep my Note 7 charging to 100 percent and to stop the disabling update from Sammy. A long year of bad memories. Still haven't sent that phone back yet.

Data speed slowed!?!?

I just got a free msg from T-Mobile saying " due to the amount of data used your data speed will now be slowed" wtf!?!? Why!? I have an unlimited data plan! I'm guessing its from watching Netflix.. is there anything I can do besides complain? Service.jar??

Before anyone flames you let me clear this up. It's *Unlimited, and not Unlimited. After 5GB they throttle you down below 2G speeds until the end of the current billing cycle. There isn't much you can do about it. Next month try to take it easy with the streaming.
Oh I see. Thanks for that!! I Watch Netflix on my phone cause the home internet got cut! Lol!

Imagine if it wasn't and you had no texting plan.
Throttled and being charged an extra .25 for the text. That would be just terrible and lulzy on T-Mobile's part.
Dood complain to T-mobile.
People that have been hitting their cap has usually been for tethering and thats a BIG no no you cant complain if you get throttled if you tether because thats your fault. Under normal use you should never hit your cap. But with a heavy dose of Pandora, web browsing, pod cast downloads, mp3 downloads, downloading thru the stock media hub, using 3G for apps like geocaching, and now the ability to stream movies with apps like netflix. All of that combined I believe people will start getting closer to their cap or even start to go over. I believe this is a game changer and service providers are gonna have to provide more bandwidth. We just have to complain when we hit the cap under normal use. And thats the kicker. You should not have werking netflix on your specific device as its not "officially" werking for the Vibrant (yet) so its still not normal use for us. Just don't tell them that i guess, lol. Tell them you have some other phone. Good luck!

141.6°F - "A New Record!" | What's the hottest battery temp you've seen?

So this week I've discovered a hidden feature on my Rezound: it doubles as a portable pocket burner. Not sure if that is too be expected (having read through the other battery threads, it seems that 120°F is typical eye-bulge territory), but if it happens again i'll probably start the replacement phone process.
This happened off charger, just playing a high quality graphics game for 20 minutes.
Just seems a bit high to me, but any further insight is welcome. (as a comparison i've read on the Galaxy Nexus forums that a few folks are getting ancy at around the 120°F mark as well).
Maybe the Rezound is just has a poor design in reference to heat dissipation? Maybe I have a defect? I can live with it, so long as I know its not that big of a deal. I'd like to avoid waking up next to a phone shaped melt hole on my night stand.
Did you try frying any bacon or eggs on the screen?
Phone would triple as a portable skillet! Lol

If I remember correctly, I was using the new Onlive app for the temp in my OP (but it gets north of 125°F commonly on normal games). If you (or anyone else reading this) have that app, would you mind running it for few minutes & reporting back? It wouldn't surprise me if it played a role in tipping the temp over the edge (Onlive is a magical service // magic = power).

^^ Nice. This is what we all need to know. Can you do something fancy / intensive w/ your replacement phone for a few minutes and see if you can get it into bacon mode again? (gaming or streaming w/ 4G enabled, etc).
If we can confirm that "hot phone" is somehow a hardware issue, its warranty time.

The app does not work on my phone. It gets stuck at "Verifying application integrity". I'm running RezRom S4.
I'm just wondering why the app requests root permissions. Good app though.

I suspect that asking for root is a security check. Content providers are very twitchy about this on demand from anywhere stuff. I denied it. No reason for it to have root except to see if it's there.

There's a reason why you have to sign up for satellite on contract, and it isn't because of how awesome it is. Comcast has contracts now, but they are optional and mainly a way to lock in rates and get something free.
everyone i've ever known who signed a contract with a sat company has regretted it. they make you pay for everything, too.

no i have it on my wrist right now. i'm not impressed tho in that the software is crap it has some bad bugs that being said tho if it didnt have the bugs it would be pretty cool (the truesmart I've pre-ordered will be better tho)
I think that the bugs are coursed by them trying to mix elements from the app drawer and the home screens together. it has no homescreens or widgets but has folders were you can put 3 yes only 3 apps per folder how useless. and sometimes apps show multiple icons per app installed worst i've gotten is 3 for one app install and only uninstalling it will remove it. also after you've filled so meny pages of apps it starts not showing some of them so you have to do a device search to find/open them. and if i try install say nova or next 3d instead of the usless default launcher they would be fine but. the notification bar totaly vanishes and stops working. so until someone makes better firmware for it or maybe the omate firmware will work on it ? it has omate firmware on it now and the model number also says omate. i'd just be worried about breaking it by doing that and couldn't anyway unless someone makes a root hack for this? so atm its not as good as it could be.

I would like to see how it works as a smartwatch All these discussions about various android watches got us far away from the original concept of smartwatch, to be a remote display for your smartphone where you get your notifications upon which you decide if you want to take out your smartphone to proceed That's how it works with MetaWatch and Pebble, a simple notification smartwatch. As much as I'm looking forward to Omate and other android smartwatches, these crossed the threshold of smartphone on your wrist which is an overkill for a lot of people. So, I would really like to see how this AW-414.Go will be able to deliver notifications about incoming calls, text messages, Gmail, and POP/IMAP/Exchange emails.

I disagree in the sense that having a full android os means you can do a lot more with it and customise it however you want plus you dont have to use its built in phone/3g if you dont want to. I mostly use mine at home on wifi. The battery life is a joke on 3g and exstremely bad if you actualy actively use it with 3g/phone enabled and not just with those on in standby mode. But thats to be exspected due to the size of the batterys in these kinda devices.
