My HTC Desire VC (T328d) was rooted and running Android OS 4.0.3 (ics).
In recovery mode, I accidentally formatted /system folder (from internal phone memory).
This is because the recovery mode is all in chinese language and I did a huge mistake.
The phone cannot boot showing HTC logo screen and no boot sound.
I've downloaded the kernel for this device at htcdev.com and I don't know how to use it and what it is for.
Fortunately, I can enter recovery mode. My friend has the same device and his is not rooted yet. Maybe I can get some files from him.
Any solution, please?

There is no forum for my device. Only for Desire, Desire HD, Desire V ,.........
Looks like your best shot is to root your friends phone, do a nandroid backup, restore it to yours, then reset to factory defaults.
Don't forget to use V6 SuperCharger afterwards... lol

Thanks for your advice. But, I don't know how to do nandroid backup. The instructions say that it is apk app. I can't even boot my phone and how can I use apk ? In addition, now I installed a recovery from china site (for Desire VC specifically) and it contains backup and restore function. Is it the same with Nandroid Backup or CWM ?
Can you instruct me in some steps, please ?

Yes, the backup option you see in recovery is Nandroid backup. Please be carefull in formatting system, it would wipe your ROM. Always take nandroid backup before you playing with other Rom.
Here you go,
1. Take nandroid backup of your friends ROM
2. Place the backup into your sd card( backup available in clockwork folder in ur friends mobile. Just copy the entire clockwork folder and paste in ur sd card. Now mount the sdcard in ur mobile)
3. Reboot in recovery.
4. Wipe cache and dalvik
5. Restore from nandroid.

Dalvik is virtual machine that runs Android Apps on Android. Dalvik-cache is the cache area for Dalvik VM, it is created when the Dalvik VM optimizes your app for running.

But, I don't have any setting to clear dalvik. Anyway to do so?

Your recovery is not CWM recovery.
You must flash CWM recovery first. With CWM recovery, you can find "wipe delvik cache"
under Advance menu.

It's easy. Just try to do all steps with patience. If you have any doubts, please do clear it. Don't assume anything just few mins of Googling will solve major issues..

I just backup my friend's ROM (which was updated by him).
And I restored all of his ROM.
My device is being well now ..... but still problem there are errors for wifi and bluetooth
I can't switch on wifi and bluetooth.
Below the "wifi" text, it shows "error".

Try all basic things, like clearing RAM, Booting your phone etc. If its not solved, try to flash the kernel via recovery. Please ensure that you are s-off for this. Even after flashing the kernel that issue persists, please check your radio (baseband) is latest. Else update the radio. I guess, flashing kernel will solve the issue.
Please let me know whether you are s-off and rooted.
Tips: its my personal advice to be s-off (your warranty voids)

My device is not s-off yet. I've just unlocked with htcdev. I searched s-off for this device but i can't find and don't know how to.
I have kernel downloaded from htc official web. Can i flash it with s-on ?

From where do I have to find "boot.img" ?
I have only back up folder (ROM) from my friend's phone. And I just restored it (including boot.img) with CWM nandroid backup.
Is that the same with your instruction from step 1 to 5 ?
I can selectively restore "boot.img" with CWM nandroid recovery. Is that the same ?
In addition, the version of Kernel I downloaded is the same with my phone currently. I downloaded it from http://htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads
I got primodd-ics-crc-3.0.16-ead8920.zip file. When I extract it, I just found "bcm4329" folder under "primodd-ics-crc-3.0.16-ead8920/drivers/net/wireless" path. I can't find "bcm4329.ko"

Boot.IMG is consists of kernel and ramdisk. They both necessary to start up the device, initializing the hardware, phone etc.
Since you are s-on, while placing the boot.img from nandroid, its not well placed. S-0N means, security on that doesn't allows to flash boot.img from nandroid.
I guess, every time you flash the via recovery boot.img is not placed in correct partition.
So, you have alternative method which allows to place the boot.img in correct path.That's why asked to do it via fastboot mode. Hope you understand.

Since you have problem only with WiFi and Bluetooth. You can skip fastboot method. bcm4329.ko is same as what you found in the kernel that you downloaded from HTC dev. (Just right click and check the file extension from your pc)
Your friends WiFi and Bluetooth are working fine. bcm4329.ko is responsible for WiFi and Bluetooth. Since you used recovery to restore nandroid, the bcm4329.ko is not placed in the system/lib/modules path. So manually you are placing it
To make it easier do the following
1. From your friends mobile, goto system/lib/modules copy bcm4329.ko file into your pc (use root file explorer)
2. Place that file in your sd card.
3. Then use root explorer and follow the steps mentioned in previous post.( 4 steps under root explorer)
Please let me know if this works.
PS: take nandroid before performing. No warranty for any tips provided. Please do search on google regarding kernel, android partition, bcm4329.ko etc.

I'm running the last cyanogenmod 12.1 ROM on my S2. There is no custom kernel or recovery. The only thing I did was a repartition to 1GB system. This setup ran since 2016 feb. without problems. Tuesday morning got a notification from the play store, that there are updates to some of my apps, so I set my phone to update them all and left it there. I came back after 20min and then came the problem:
The phone is bootlooping. The booting animation finishes, then it starts optimizing my apps, every time different amount of apps. After it finishes it starts booting again... rinse and repeat. I tried to leave it there for a very long time, with no success. The phone is very hot in the CPU area and the battery gets hot too when it's bootlooping.
I am able to go in recovery and download mode. My recovery is the stock cyanogen recovery unfortunately. I tried putting it in download mode and since I have Android Studio installed on my pc, I tried to establish an adb shell (with adb shell command) with the adb tool that came it. Unfortunately it does not find my device (neither with adb devices). I might do it wrong though. Fortunately Odin 3.04 seems to recognize my phone, so I might be able the flash something, but I'm afraid that my internal memory is starting to fail and that is causing all these issues, so the flash would fail. First I'd like to try to save data without flashing if possible.
I have most of my user data on my sd card, so the most important thing would be to save is my contacts, messages and call history. No, I don't sync it with google, yes I know it's stupid. It used to mess up my contact list so I dropped using it.
Any help and advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

Ok, did you try dirty flashing the ROM using CyanogenMod recovery?
And then wiping cache and dalvik cache?

First of all, thanks for the advice, I didn't think of that. I assume this means there is probably no solution without flashing. Do I need to flash gapps too?

So, I went to recovery, pressed apply update, searched for the cm12.1-20160203-nightly rom (same I had installed), flashed it without error messages, then I pressed wipe cache partition, then reboot system now. Now the phone starts to boot, the boot animation is playing for a few minutes, then the phone turns off. Tried it multiple times, with and without charging. I can still get into recovery.

Ok, we will try another thing, can your phone be recognized using adb in recovery?
If so you can pull the data(contacts, sms) using adb pull command.
The data usually is stored there:
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
And there:
/data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/databases/contacts.db
If you were able to do it then fine, if not, there is luckily another solution!!
You have the latest cm12.1 build which is Feb 3rd build, so your build support iso-rec TWRP recovery, so you can flash TWRP recovery zip provided by the.gangster using CM recovery and reboot recovery so it will replace the CM recovery with TWRP, in TWRP you can mount system and data using "mount", and using the file manager there you can access the above mentioned directories and copy the files manually in the external sdcard(or the internal sdcard), then you can clean flash and copy them again after that.
That would be the ultimate solution

In recovery I can see my device with adb, but every command runs into a device unauthorized error.

First, TWRP won't be flashed with Odin, it will be flashed with CM recovery that you already have, and yes i meant the one you mentioned.
Second, the contacts.db and mmssms.db won't take that much space, and anyway it's OK to copy them to internal sdcard, not obligated to external, and no need to access them, after you flash another ROM like LOS 14.1, you can re copy them back to their directories.
Third, if you flash the latest LOS 14.1, you can keep the iso-rec TWRP it won't be removed.

Okay, so I need to find an SD card reader then, to put the recovery on it. Or is there another way to get it on the phone?

No pb bro, you're welcome.
Yes, you will need to get the recovery in the phone somehow, or you can put your memory card in another phone and use the phone to put the recovery in the sdcard, then place it in your phone again.
That would be an alternative if you don't have a sdcard reader.

I managed to get it on the phone and flashed it. The phone was plugged in to my pc, and I could acces my internal SD so I managed to back that up. But here's the thing, TWRP file manager showed my /data to be empty, and not long after, the phone just shut down. My battery is only a few months old, so that should not be the issue, and the phone was also charging from the PC.
After this shutdown, I had a very hard time to get into recovery, because the phone thinks the battery is dead. I couldn't start booting normally either. Only download mode was available, but it only said, it can't get into download mode, because the battery is low. (when I plug in the charger the phone shows 100% battery) I changed my battery to my old weak one, I managed to get into recovery with it, after multiple tries. (I think it had nothing to do with the battery but was lucky) Now I check my /data through adb and it shows empty aswell:

Do I have to mount it somehow maybe? (Oh and twrp always ask at start to mount sys in read-only or R/W. I always mounted it in R/W.) I'm afraid if I start moving in TWRP the phone will shut down as it always did. If I use adb or windows explorer to acces the phone it does not shut down.

I managed to get it on the phone and flashed it. The phone was plugged in to my pc, and I could acces my internal SD so I managed to back that up. But here's the thing, TWRP file manager showed my /data to be empty, and not long after, the phone just shut down. You should go to "mount" in TWRP, and tick "data" and "system", i said that already earlier.

After I sent the message and before I read yours just now, I managed to mount, save and even make LOS run. So I was wrong, the battery is probably dead. I guess the lot of heat it produced while bootlooping killed the battery. I switched back to my old original wore out battery which is humpy and everything, but I managed to do everything with the phone. Now my problem is after I put back the .db files in their place, when the phone start it constantly crashes android.process.acore, the messaging app and the caller app. I think it might be a permission issue, but I have no idea how to fix it.

Download ES file explorer from play store and grant root access for root explorer and set permissions to the 2 files as (rw- rw- ---) as described in screenshot, then reboot.

This method worked with the contacts db, but not with the messages db. Actually I did not find any databases when I first copied it there, even made the databases folder. Thanks though, I'm almost done!

Ok, i seem to know the problem here, i looked at my own mmssms.db file and found it in this path:
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
(not the same path for the contacts.db file)
So you should move it there and add the same permissions that you added to the other file, that will do the job for you

This is the path you told me the first time, and this is where it doesn't work. That databases folder was not even there, until I made it. I don't even have any other files in the folder but the mmssms.db that I copied there.

No problem, I got lucky, run a search in the data partition for mmssms.db and it appears that now it is located in /data/user_de/0/com.android.providers.telephony/databases. I backed it up, then overwrote it, fixed the permission, rebooted and now it seems to work, so all is well.
In the end I managed to not only save my data, but to fix my phone and even upgrade it to the latest LineageOS, thanks to you! I wish you a good life!

So I recently downloaded Cyanangen MOD 11 from a friend I met on XDA. It is file more than 900 MB- I downloaded this to my tablet and Flashed it using TWRP 3.1.0.
Before I flashed the .zip file
I wiped Dalvik Cache, Cache, and system

You don't need to change file systems. Put the .zip in a SD Card, and advanced wipe everything, except External SD Card. I would recommend flashing back to stock and re-root it.

1. Make Free account on sammobile.com
2. go here https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-tab4/SM-T230NU/
put your region from where the phone you bought. Use latest Version of OS
3. Extract (unzip) the firmware file to the desktop or what ever is easy for you to locate firmware
4. Download Odin v3.12.7 from here: https://dl.sammobile.com/Odin3-v3.12.7.zip
Extract Odin ZIP file
Open Odin v3.12.7
5. Reboot Phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait few minutes

its my first time rootnig my phone (galaxy a5 - SM-A520F ) and all ive done so far is installed TWRP. I downloaded supersu.zip but the files i see in the android's file explorer are diffrent from those that the twrp explorer shows so i cant find the zip file in twrp. I dont have an sd card to move it on. What can i do?

R U sure you selected zip and not img from twrp? Twrp might be looking only for img if that is so.
File manager in twrp is no different than standard file manager , only zips or img are visible.

From what i read online (but could be totaly wrong) twrp files are the system files whereas android file explorers are internal storage.
I figured out how to access my system files but its read only so I cant paste in zip

Need to "swipe to allow modifications" when you first time start TWRP
You'll be able to flash SuperSU then.

Place the SuperSU zip file in 'Downloads' directory on your phone (there's no way it won't be visible in TWRP) do button combo ,enter twrp -swipe to allow modifications (so it's not 'read only') ,navigate to Downloads , select the 'supersu . zip ,swipe to install. There's literally no way it can fail.

I cant mount data folder in TWRP without wiping first so the data is empty and i cant see no downloads
I got an sd card and now I can locate the file, I flashed it but it failed and my phone couldn't boot so I install the Samsung firmware with odin. Will wiping before flashing fix this?

If it were my phone , upon booting to twrp I'd wipe system data and cache(s) formatt data and flash a rom /root!
Since you got twrp ur bootloader is unlocked so u should be good to flashmagisk or latest SuperSU without issue. I'm not an expert. Sorry for the delayed responses this oppo phones are crap.

I watched a tutorial and the guy in the vid doesnt wipe before flashing but after supersu is install he taps on the "wipe cache " or something like that. So I have to do that and will my data be erased?

You phone should be rooted if you have twrp and flash the root zip. You don't have to wipe cache
The device may reboot 1-2 times after you flash the root.zip but you should be ok.
