Nova Launcher on v30 - LG V30 Questions & Answers

Hey guys, any of you started using Nova on v30? Which features are disabled when using Nova? Also can you do anything to navigation buttons like change the icons or make the tab transparent? Thanks!
Sent from my HTC One M9 using Tapatalk

I've been running Nova since I got my V30. I haven't noticed anything being disabled on the V30 compared to the other devices I've used it on. Yes, you can change the icons on the nav buttons, and all other features that Nova is known for.

Knock On/Off is disabled when using Nova. Sadly. Basically one of my favorite LG features can't be used. If you get another app like Screen On/Off it messes with the security settings and you cant' use the finger print to unlock, you have to do your pattern/password. So yeah, not exactly thrilled w/ using the LG launcher but it is what is.

You can use knock on with nova and off. Just knock on the notification bar works 100% has since my g3.

Ironically enough, I just noticed that they have a screen lock option in the settings for gestures and inputs now too...
There are two options, one is locks the screen immediately (which requires pin/password/patter, which I didn't want) and the other just turns the screen off for 5 seconds then locks itself, allowing for knock on and fingerprint. So thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
And yes, you can double tap the notification shade as well and that does the same as the second option.
Thanks again!

The V30 new floating bar doesn't show up for me on the home screen, but shows up in any apps or settings. Kind of a bummer since they removed the ticker screen in the v20 and v10 for the virtual one, but I have to choose between nova and no ticker on the home screen or a different launcher and ticker on the home screen :/

How do you use the ticker on the home screen, for what purposes? I'm asking because for instance if it's in order to launch apps maybe there's another way more efficient?

I actually figured out that it will stay on the home screen as long as I don't hide the navigation buttons. When I keep the navigation buttons persistent on the screen, I can use the ticker.
As for what I use it for, there are some media control settings, shortcuts, but most useful is screen shot and making gif features.

Oh man that was the only issue I was worried about using a launcher. I really wanna use the floating bar but can't give up nova either [emoji58]

Hello,
I know this is an old thread but want to ask the question regarding Nova launcher and the LGV30+ that I have.
When I setup the Nova Launcher, to unlock the phone with my finger print, it asked me for addition pattern or a pin. Now that it is set up, whenever I use the fingerprint to unlock the phone, it also ask for a pattern.
Does anyone else have this issue?
LG V30+ Tmobile USA.
Thanks

If you are using Nova's double tap to sleep feature, and you have it set to the 'Device Admin' option for the lock method, you will not be able to use biometric unlock. Using the 'Timeout' method will allow you to use the fingerprint scanner as normal.

Thank you for that. Do you know if there is a way to set this up to work with the double tap to lock the screen? It is giving me a message that it has to be an admin.
Thanks.
EDIT: OK figured it out. You set Nova to turn off the screen with a double tap. The timeout will lock it.
Thanks!

I know the thread is a little old, but someone also asked about using the floating bar with Nova.
Should be able to use it. I know a question was previously asked about it by a poster, and the issue was not Nova, but the fact that the poster had the Navigation Bar set to auto hide, and the Floating Bar is directly tied to the Navigation Bar. If the Navigation Bar is hidden, the Floating Bar will not display.

[DIY] Knock-Off on any Non-Stock ROM

Just some info for everyone that is wondering, not sure if this has been covered yet, I looked and it seems that it hasn't been mentioned.
This is a very easy way to get customized knock-off (double-tap to turn off screen) working on any non-stock ROM where knock-off might not be included.
1. Download GMD Gesture Control from the market. You should probably use the paid version since the free version doesn't support custom gestures. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.goodmooddroid.gesturecontrol&hl=en
2. Download the Screen Off app (free). https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock&hl=en
3. Open up GMD and turn off any gestures you don't want that are included with the app.
4. Click on User Gestures up top, and then click path.
5. Under "Gesture Path", type in "T-T"
6. Click under action, select "application" and select "Screen Off" (the one that you just downloaded).
7. Click "Save" at the bottom, and bam. Double-tap goes to screen off.
**NOTE** I changed the starting zone (in the Create Gesture window) to only recognize double-taps on my status bar region, because often I would shut my screen off without meaning to.
Sorry, if this is a repost, I just spent a long hour pulling my hair out trying to get this to work with Nova launcher (wanted my double-tap to work anywhere in my ROM), and was super stoked when I figured this out.
Great idea I wonder why I haven't thought about this before
Thank you. I tried to spread the word on this method when CM was first released for the G2. My only difference is I use Secure Settings
Edit: just realized you missed another obvious bit
If you use Nova or Apex you can set a double tap gesture to turn off the screen the same way. Suddenly you have the same functionality as LG included

Hi,
It works with Nova, you need to double-tap in the notification bar area (but only here), nothing to set in Nova it works just like that...

You are correct, there isn't a screen off option. However, you can set the double tap gesture to open a SHORTCUT that will turn the screen off.
I'm assuming the app OP linked to allows you to set a shortcut for screen off. If not, Secure Settings for sure does (it's what I use).
Here's proof that it works
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvesNzvgKDQ&feature=youtube_gdata_player
That video uses OP's GMD Gesture control trick and Nova Launcher's double tap gesture. Only difference is I'm using secure settings instead of the screen off app
Ok, for those who want to use screen off with Nova or CM do this.
Download this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock&hl=en
in Nova Settings go to gesture and Buttons/ Double tap/ and select Screen off, Simple as that. GL

Lock the screen using Knock-On without going to homescreen

Like most of you G2 users I went to the homescreen first to lock the screen (when I didn't want to use the back button).
Recently I discovered that it is possible to use the double-tap feature without going tot the homescreen, in order to do this you must double-tap on the notification bar (in other words, it doesn't work if the app runs full screen).
I tried this with different apps like Chrome, Quickremote, YouTube and Maps and it works with them all.
Let me know if this worked with your G2, I am very curious whether it works with all G2's or not. :good:

You can use knock off with any launcher that supports gestures. I use Nova Prime and downloaded a screen off app, then set it to activate upon double tapping the homescreen. And you can still double tap the statusbar from any screen.
You can force notification to show when the app is full screen
Just slide down. First slide down show notif bar, Second slide is show whole notif.
So you can knock off every time.

It sounds like the CM maintainers are working on it, but I set up one of my Quick Launch shortcuts to do "Screen Off", and it's really easy to use that way. I like it a lot better than having it in the notification drawer tiles or on the quick pulldown tiles. Pretty much no matter what screen you're on, you can swipe up from the bottom QUick Launch icon to instantly lock the phone. I do it one-handed all the time. Being right-handed, it's easiest to set it to the left-hand icon position so you can swipe away with just your thumb.
For CM 10.2 users, it's in: Settings > Interface > Quick Launch Shortcuts, then swipe to the desired location and choose to bind the "Screen Off" command. :good:

Oh, good to know. I've been using Nova Launcher Prime on top of whatever I've flashed on. Right now, I'm using Carbon + Nova. In Nova, you can still set up gestures with an app, so I use Screen Off and Lock from the Play Store. This way, I can flash between different ROMs and not worry about having knock off unavailable.

[Q] It's lost when using Nova Launcher

I just switched over to Nova Launcher because I have my homescreen set up nice from previous devices. However, when I did this, I lost the a couple things I can seem to get back while using Nova; 1) Smart Notification (the LG widget showing weather and what not) and 2) double tap screen to lock.
With double tap to lock I did try to use the double tap gesture in the Nova Gesture settings but it isn't an option and I can't find it in the other choices.
Anyone know if there is a way to get those back?

Install the G3TweaksBox xposed module. There's an option for the Knock On Nav Bar in there and it works just fine with Nova.
Not sure about the smart Notification deal I don't use it.

Double tap notification bar to sleep. Works without any mods.
Download this app and set Nova Launcher's double tap gesture to open it.
As for the widget, well, it's pretty common that widgets from LG/Samsung/HTC et al don't work with third-party launchers. Unfortunately there isn't a solution.

Clearly not what he's looking for. Currently there's no option to disable it altogether globally. Only option to hide it on a per app basis, which not all apps support.

I was looking for a way to completely disable it but I don't think it's possible without root. I enabled expended mode via ADB but my ultimate goal was to not make it appear when I scroll up from the bottom so I can use apps such as all in one gesture
There are some ways, but i guess they all need root. there is an xposed module : xposed edge pro, that can remove the navbar. or you can change the build.prop hw.mainkeys=1
i did that but the thing is when you completely remove the navbar every app that is not set to 18:9 scaling will not load. just give a black screen. that is not a problem as you can just switch all apps to 18:9 scaling in settings. except some few system dialogs that will not show anymore like the longpress menu when e.g. clicking on a link in chrome or on a message to copy it.
iv been on that issue for a long time now. it is definitely related with completely removing the navbar as the system then does not scale some screens accordingly anymore.
i tried the build.prop, whereas there are more settings related with the screen and ratio (ro.lge.app_scaling=1) (ro.lge.aspect.ratio=18:9) and (qemu.hw.mainkeys=1) i dont know what the first two settings really do but i tried different settings
then there is the possibility via the xposed edge app, which does not change the build.prop. so it hast to change it in some other way, i dont know.
and i found a thread to change scaling via the service menu *#546368#*930# -svc menu -force long display mode -on from this thread.
ive tried all different settings combined in different ways and was not able to remove the navbar without that problem.
if anybody has more knowledge i would be glad to have some help
cheers DK

Agreed. I had an issue with the nav bar NOT appearing when I wanted. It kept disappearing in my corporate email and I had to force it up from the bottom to appear. I was puzzled, why is this happening only with this app? I finally figured out how to go into the nav bar settings and disable that for that app. For some reason that app (called Nine) was enabled to hide the nav bar.
I have the opposite problem. Except for when I'm watching videos, I do want to see the nav bar. This screen is tall enough that I don't need a totally "immersive" experience just reading email or looking at news articles.
And I use Nova launcher, of course. Who uses stock launcher?

Nobody. Except launchers still have nothing to do with what OP was looking for. I switch between Nova and action launcher and would recommend them to anyone not using as well, just baffled that he asked how to disable navbar entirely and the answer was install Nova...followed by the assertion that he needs to be told this even though its not what he asked and there was nothing to suggest he's not already using a 3rd party launcher

I found how to hide the nav bar for specific apps months ago (and indeed have all of the available apps flicked to off), but I cannot find the universal switch anywhere. Where exactly is it?
Under Settings/Display/Home Touch Buttons, I only see three options: Button combination, Color, and Hide Home Touch Buttons.
The Hide Home Touch Buttons screen is the one I found months ago, but I don't see a universal switch there.
Thanks.

For me, when I go to Home Touch Buttons in settings and click "Hide Home Touch Buttons" it gives me a list for every app where I can toggle to hide the home buttons. There's also a toggle option at the top of this page that says "Lock/hide icon" -- that's the universal button.
Though this doesn't hide the home buttons on the home screen for me. Does it hide them on the home screen for anyone else? I can't figure out how to do that and my Nova launcher prime doesn't have the option.

Thought that was just the icon that shows up on the left-hand side of the nav bar when in an app where the nav bar can be hidden.
That's not a universal on/off switch for the nav bar system-wide, is it?

Issue: Launchers when active disables the Double Tap feature to turn off the screen.
I like to use Nova Launcher for several reasons. However with the new LG V30, when Nova Launcher is active the Double Tap to turn off the screen fails to work. Double Tap to turn it back on works fine, as does the Double Tap from the Lock Screen works for both screen on and off.
Is this a known issue with launchers, or is it an LG V30 issue?
I've not had a phone with the feature for Double Tap screen off/on before, so I have no idea if it's to be expected and find nothing posted about this either.

I've not had a phone with the feature for Double Tap screen off/on before, so I have no idea if it's to be expected and find nothing posted about this either.
Thank you for reading,

it is issue of nova launchers
May have to have the paid version, but it's in Nova Settings, then Gestures and Inputs.
That does work! Thanks!

Well I'll be... that works even when Nova Launcher is active. Thank you!
Nova has its own homescreen shortcut for switching off the screen: Widgets -> Nova Action -> activate lockscreen. Of course Nova needs the permission for that.
OMG this is great, thanks for that!

A pretty substance free coment: What was your actual expectation?
Since that shortcut switched off the screen on every Android phone I had so far as long as Nova has the required administrator permissions set. So I see no need to avoid it.

There are two modes, one of which locks the phone, after which the fingerprint unlock doesn't work, you have to enter your code to unlock the phone. The other one doesn't lock the phone at all, it just turns off the screen, and the AOD doesn't show up untill the phone actually times out and locks on its own (it says after 5 seconds, but it's actually 30 seconds for me).
I would agree. The present implementation of Nova Launcher doesn't really follow function or form with the V30's own lockup function. It doesn't really lock the phone up. It just darkens the screen... not secure it.
What I really would like for Nova Launcher to do is to enable the user to use the whole screen to implement the knock code to lock the screen up. I think the reason we can use the notification area alone, is that this is part of the V30's own infrastructure layout, and not a Nova Launcher area.

Yes that always works with Nova.
And if you configure this option, it will also work anywhere on the screen.

Yes but as other posters have said, it doesn't actually lock the phone - it just turns the display black and only locks after the display time out (60seconds in my case). It doesn't turn off the touchscreen, it just blanks it.
If you are rooted nova can lock the screen just as lg launcher does.
