[Q] Want to change everything about my phone without actually changing phones...

So here's my problem: I bought my SGS3 in China (CHU firmware)but it doesn't come stock with Google Play Store and a bunch of bloatware I can't even read, Every time I update my firmware (KIES/OTA) i lose my root and all my Google apps. And now I cannot install Gapps on the new 4.3 CHU firmware (recovery gives me error). I'd like to switch to a different firmware that has Google apps native to it. I tired Cyanogenmod for a time but missed some of the features that the Samsung stock firmwares provided. I've also heard about a leaked BTU firmware from the UK that sounds appealing but every time I try to flash (via Odin) it fails. I've also heard that I would need to change my CSC in order to use Kies with a new firmware but my phone only has a single CSC and errors out every time I try to change the CSC. Now quite sure how to proceed.Everything on my phone is in English but sometimes the Chinese still come through ie. error message and even the prompts to get into download mode.
So, does anyone have experience completely changing a phone from one country to another, firmware and all? What about the problems installing Gapps, any ideas?
Help, please!

You can flash stock ROMs compiled by different devs which are deodexed and prerooted(with supersu as system app) and with some performance tweaks like init.d support etc..go to s3 general section and you can find those compiled zip files flashable thru any custom recovery.. But follow the instructions given to flash it and done...you will have the best stock experience and that too which you can customise and with performance and battery tweaks..

Root method for new BLU Vivo X. (Dual Camera)

Hi all,
Been searching all day but can't find a successful method to root the new BLU Vivo X just release a few weeks ago. Every method tried, including one from what appears to be a fake article, failed. No one-click method works and can't find any other advanced method anywhere.
Perhaps the phone is too new or not much in terms of popularity, but would like to know if there is or will be a way to root this phone in the near future?
Thank you much,
--mike
I had this same phone, and failed to find a root method, so i returned it.
I did find it will flash the full firmware (although loosing IMEI) from a clone device (or i should say the vivo is the clone)Gionee sw017w08.
And. There is full factory firmware available too.
You need a download agent from gionee and an authorization file to flash.
Both are in a special skinned sp-flash tool from gionee.
I have a link to needrom page that has both Gionee firmware and Gionee tool.
But xda do not allow needrom links.
Will update with links when i can transfer files to androidfile host.
If there is any interest
Thank you!
Hi mrmazak,
Would like to thank you for the reply and willingness to help. At this point, like yourself, I decided I will be returning this phone as well. I cannot own an Android phone without root. Must have it!
Anyways,
After another extensive search online, I found a phone to get me by for now till the next Samsung phone. The Honor 7x. This one appears it can be easily rooted without issues, even with TWRP recovery. I prefer that. Besides, the specs on this phone seem much better, especially when it comes to the screen. Don't really like the screen on the Vivo X. Rather have the full HD screen while still having the dual camera setup.
Thanks again. Much appreciated. :good:

Would love a root for the vivo class, but on the other hand, there is next to NO bloatware on it, other than the Google play crap, a couple of apps that came installed on the phone, but allowed me to uninstall them. All I really wanted anyway is stock rooted, no real desire for custom ROMs, so I'm happy to wait until we get a root for it. Can't beat the price, and performance seems to be good. I don't root, just for the sake of rooting, did that back before 2013, but now I just want it to work and do what I want, which the vivo can do.
Root
Rooting should not be hard.
Make sure you have adb working.
Install USB drivers ect.
Download magisk.
Unlock bootloader.
Go development setting's tap like 7 times.
Enable OEM unlocking.
Install magisk choose to patch kernel.
You have to figure out how to unlock bootloader.
After unlocked.
Fastboot flash boot.img.
Make sure you get a hold of unpatch kernel.
To unroot ect.
If rooting works track down the twrp maker.
And let them make twrp for your device.
This phone is booloader locked down!
Bad for devs well blu has joined the ranking not to buy from.
Blu phones will blacklisted not to buy from.

How do I flash rebranded Mate 10 ALP-L29 firmware?

I rebranded and flashed my Mate 10 about 6 months ago, but ever since then I haven't received any OTA updates. That was my first mistake, shoulda got an OTA version firmware... I'm not sure if being rebranded is going to cause any issues. Bootloader is unlocked, and I've recently installed TWRP.
Now I wanted to update to Pie/EMUI 9, then found out its just the beta version... so I'm just wanting to get the latest build of EMUI 8. Firmware finder says for c636 is 8.0.0.134....
I've searched all over XDA and google and youtube, and can't find any one place to give enough detail and resources to get this done.
I've tried downloading the firmware about 3 or 4 times. Firmware finder on android, I think funkyhuawei or firmwarefinder online, potentially someones Mega link, and somewhere else. It seems sometimes different sites have different resources. My most recent downloads have 2 packages, the update.zip, and the Update_full_ALP-L29_hw_spcseas.zip. Now i'm looking at firmware finder again, they say theres another update_data_full_public.zip which I haven't got yet.
I'm just not sure if I need it all, or if some parts are unnecessary, or maybe I don't even need the fullMF-OTA version, maybe just the OTA version...
Then when it comes to execution, I've found all sorts of varying methods and I'm open to any. ADB, TWRP, eRecovery, I don't care. I've recently tried TWRP with these 2 packages I've got, and I get an error: 9.. and haven't fully identified what that means just yet.
Other methods I've seen are tricking the eRecovery into downloading the firmware from localhost aka the phones own storage. Haven't tried it yet, because firmware finder gets errors while downloading, even without pausing or stopping and on good signal wireless.
I've also read about extracting Update.app files from these zips, and it just gets messier and messier.
(Much more difficult than my old Oneplus One, just download a rom and flash it in twrp, then flash modding .zips and other things afterwards if you want)
TL;DR:
I want to update my ALP-L29C636 Mate 10 manually with TWRP to 8.0.0.134. I just need a version that will get me OTA updates again. It's also rebranded.
I need to know how many .zips I need, which ones and where to get them.
I need to know what to flash it with, TWRP, or ADP or eRecovery and what steps for that method.
Looking forward to hearing your suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Xperia 1 - I got swindled for a 'StoreFrontDemo' phone and I can't seem to flash it?

Hey everyone,
So! I bought a Sony Xperia 1 (J8110-2019) phone from someone on Facebook Marketplace at a very solid price of £250 (RRP is still £850 in the UK) due to the seller describing it as 'in retail demo mode' so they lowered the price. I jumped the gun thinking I was getting a solid deal and just stupidly assumed it to be a feature I could just disable with *#*#73556673*#*#- me believing I was some insane developer with mad coding skills where in realityI had once flashed and rooted my Xperia XZ back in 2016. [Insert 'Hackerman' meme]
Yes... I am fully aware I'm a complete idiot for not doing a full assessment on the phone and am now having to learn a very important lesson from this situation!!
It seems to have a Store Front firmware installed and unsure what firmware to download and flash? I've tried some of the official stock ROMs from XperiFirm and it just continues to boot into constant 10-second cycles of demo videos making general functionality like phone calls pretty much impossible. without interruption. I've tried Customized and UK Service Provider Firmware such as EE and O2 but it always goes back into Store mode.
I was hoping if anyone would have or could elaborate on how to make an executable system flash zip for a 2019 Xperia 1? When I extract files from XperiaFirm ROMS (FTF,ZIP,SIN etc), I don't seem to get any META-INF files and thus cant make the proper .zip that TWRP needs to successfully flash a new repacked stock ROM? It always ends in a boot loop."
Here are some key points to hopefully give you some background:
I've installed TWRP successfully and have attempted to use 3 official firmware to flash whilst in recovery but have been unsuccessful each time with 'Invalid .ZIP format'. I've only a few times got booted whilst bundling together FTF files via Flashtool and doing it that way round but only ever seems to solve half the problem
I can't use the SinExtract feature in Flashtools as the SIN file errors as not being supported yet to use different file versions.
I can't use PRFCreator as it errors as the FTF file being unsupported (Due to it being new I assume)
I attempted to create my own META-INF>Updater-script but am unable to identify what partition my phone would use for mounting on "/dev/block". I only ever seem to get MANIFEST.MF from the files and nothing else. On my XZ I think I used something like:
(package_extract_file("boot.img", "/dev/block/mmcblk0");
package_extract_file("system.sin","/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/system");

I have been able to install Magisk for rooting and verified.
I have used Minimal ADB and Fastboot to install programs like TWRP, SuperSu, Magisk but have never attempted, nor would I even know how to wipe my phone completely and install a clean stock ROM - is this possible?
All drivers, software, and systems are correct and up to date (as far as I am aware)
Would installing the' Service Exchange Firmware' be recommended (if I ever make it that far!) due to it being StoreFront?
I checked the IMEI number to see if it was blacklisted/blocked and it's all good. Not lost or stolen.
Thank you for your time to read and wallow in my woes with me my lovelies! Any help would be GREATLY appreciated you magnificent beasts! x
Bump x

Question Turn tarballs into ZIP to flash with TWRP

I have been searching high and low across the internet for many days now and can't seem to find an answer to this issue.
Previously, Samsung devices could use a dialer code to enter the pre-configured menu of the CIDmanager to change the CSC using either of two codes containing "272". As of now, neither of these codes work anymore to enter this menu. Things like quickshortcutmaker don't work due to issues with permissions.
ODIN as well, does not work to flash other CSC firmware, and I have seen elsewhere on the xda forums that the new firmware must be flashed along with changing the CSC.
I have tried things like cheetah tool and magma tool, (chimera tool being much too expensive) and even an unlocking service that states explicitly that they are able to work with my CSC (TMK), yet the credits for the tools are impossible to get, and the unlocking service refuses to respond to my inquiries about payment, as their websites interactions with PayPal are totally broken.
What I need to know is how I can flash the stock XAA CSC firmware using TWRP because currently ODIN will not allow it.
I have stock firmware in two different compatible baseband, but these firmwares are naturally tarballs.
I can't flash tarballs with TWRP.
How can I make the 5 ODIN flashable firmware tarballs (CP, AP, CSC, BL, and the other one.... forget off the top of my head) into TWRP flushable ZIP files?
I have searched endlessly for days and all I come across are stupid answers that don't answer the questions that people have asked.
"Flash with odin" is NOT an answer when someone asks "how to flash these files with TWRP".
Edit: clearly I'm missing something, but I have no clue what that is.
Update: some patience and installing apps I've never used (whatsapp and telegram), which for some esoteric reason are the only means of support for the professional tools, i was able to find a company that sold credit for cheetah tool sim killer pro, through trial and error going through the official list of companies that are ALL supposed to sell the credit, and would sell less than $100 at a time, 10 being minimum for this company who's name I forget, and who's buying process is like pulling teeth by tieing a string and sinker to each one and waiting for gravity to do the trick. Seriously never seen a company that made it so hard for me to give them my money, as they all want it in crypto (for supposedly legal businesses...), and I was eventually able to pay with my debit card, but charged about 2 percent of the total as a special fee. I got 11 credits for the sim killer pro, and the CSC change was only 1 credit, which is only 89 cents, and also which somehow never got charged to my account after the csc change, so hey, In the end, totally worth the 0 i actually paid out to change the csc, but unfortunately did not actually carrier unlock the phone.
So I broke down and spent the $80 for a Samsung license for chimera tool.
(at this point, I've spent so much money to unlock this phone I could have bought a brand new unlocked one, but it's the PRINCIPLE that matters to me in that circumstance, soo.....)
The chimera tool is really awesome software, supports nearly any samsung ever made, including specifically my model, for flashing, imei, csc, etc.
Only to find that using it to flash ONLY this specific model still gives secure check failure for pit, aboot, modem, etc so I cannot flash any version of it at all on this phone, and fails at csc changes.
I eventually got a partial flashing by using the pit file that was already on the phone, and using that with my new firmware. It's sort of unlocked. It's very goofy. It was a10 before now its Android 11.
