XZ1 Rebooting - Sony Xperia XZ1 Guides, News, & Discussion

I had a similar thread for the XZ1 compact (Which I've had 2 handsets and returned both) and was considering getting the full XZ1 instead as I love the spec and phone aside from the rebooting.
XZ1 Compact thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz1-compact/help/xz1-compact-reboot-t3683074
I saw in the bugs thread someone mentioned rebooting for this handset too so was looking to find out how widespread this is before going to upgrade later this week. I don't want to go through all that again.
Who has had rebooting and how many times? I'm assuming this is a Sony/Oreo issue and the XZ Premium hasn't had it.

there was an update released recently (Version 47.1.A.2.374). has that by chance fixed your rebooting issue?

I've yet to experience a single reboot of the phone

I returned my XZ1c last thursday so no idea.

Can confirm random reboots.
Bought the phone from clove and Amazon.
Amazon was horrendous reboots during setting the phone up - returned.
The clove one had no reboots until today, several times (fw .374.)
Some fkd up kernal CPU bogusness going on here.
Sony need to sort this.
I'll check with matlog tomorrow if anything stands out

Well they fixed the camera distortion so hopefully this will be next. Odd how not everyone has it though.
I used always on stamina mode (balanced i think it was called) and the audio settings to improve audio and balance volumes, opened developer options but nothing else untoward. No root or dodgy software. I did run Adguard but i also tried without and still got the reboots.

This fkin phone is rebooting about 5 times a day.
I might be trying to make a call.
I might be in Google maps.
Or doing somthing else.
Seriously annoyed at this now.
XZ sh!ts all over this phone in terms of stability.
Sort this the fk out Sony

Ive got an XZ1 and its rebooting, once today whilst trying to open a video on WhatsApp, Yesterday whilst connecting to the Bluetooth in my car. only about 4 weeks old.

Any of you connected to a WiFi with LEAP/PEAP 802.1x authentication when the reboot happens? This is typically a WiFi that requires username and password instead of a key. My phone only seems to reboot when connected to that kind of WiFi. Specifically this network: https://www.eduroam.org/

New Photon owner had SOD issue found solution

Hey guys, new Photon owner (loving the phone) and just wanted to let you all know I found a solution to the SOD and random rebooting for my phone. I hope others who have this issue are able to resolve their problem as easily as I was able to.
It had already been suggested that a loose battery is the culprit however, many of you reported that even after adding padding to make the battery tighter the SOD was still occurring.
I think the issue is how the fix is being applied. I applied a strip of a business card folded over to the end of the battery (opposite of where the contacts are) and not on top of the battery between the cover. Look at attached photo.
This has solved all of my problems and I really hope it can do the same for you!
Cool, I haven't had this issue but hopefully this will help the ones who have it.
Have u updated to the latest sbf? Ever since i did that the other night i haven't had the issue

whenever I do this, and I have done it several times with several releases trying to fix my reboot issue, my phone never seems to be "back to stock". I still have apps showing up that were installed and other little odds and ins that seem to point to it not totally wiping everything out.
Also for reboots, never had a SOD, my seem to be if the WIFI in on and attached and I receive a call, then leave wifi my phone will never be able to make another call until I reboot it and or it reboots itself. And sometimes it'll actually will do it without leaving wifi.... so everyone try that a few times and see if it happens to you. Seems the dialer locks up so I am trying to find out how to replace it with the atrix one or one that will work.
UPDATE: WOW talking about reproing an issue.... as I was typing this on my PC my phone was downloading an app VIA wifi. did not even receive a call or txt. turned WIFI off and noticed a few moments later 3G never came back to replace WIFI(since I turned it off) and now my voice/3g radio is totally locked up. Tried making a call and nothing, no txt. turn WIFI on hit the internet just fine, but no 3G radio!!!! Man this is awesome!!!

[Q] Wifi issues since ATT 4.5.141 update

I can't be the only one whose wifi has been acting up since the OTA update. I don't have an unlocked, flashed, etc. phone, just the official updates since I bought my Atrix last March. My wifi now periodically disconnects for a few seconds even if it was just fully connected. Very annoying while using apps, loading web pages, etc. Anyone else experiencing this?
I have had the same issue with wifi disconnecting at random times for a few seconds and then reconnecting. Mine is unlocked but I have not rooted since updating to 4.5.141.
I also had the issue since upgrading the OTA 4.5.141 update except after dropping a few times the wifi refused to pick up any networks at all and the bluetooth stopped working PERIOD!! It just so happens that I ended up having to replace one of the flex cables this morning since I couldn't hear any calls after my son got to the phone. I happened to have a water damaged atrix so i took the cable from that only expecting the call hearing issue to go away but immediately on boot to my surprise it said wireless networks available. I went on to check and sure enough it was now detecting networks and the bluetooth now turns on. Here's what happened initially maybe it will help any one else.
I constantly got the annoying OTA update available so after about 5 hours of being bothered by it I allowed it to download. I was running rooted with unlocked boot loader so I moved the boot patches found in the update file and did the update from CWM recovery (no info was available on xda at the time to guide me). Thought the update failed since it said something about the update~script seeing as I removed some entries from it. I rebooted to find it was on 4.5.141, wifi worked and so did bluetooth but then.....random restart. So upon reboot I noticed my WiFi didn't connect automatically so I checked only to find "Error" however bluetooth still worked....random restart again only to find none now worked. Tried different Roms, kernels, radios.....nothing worked. I contacted Motorola support who then referred me to Level 2 support which I never bothered calling. Though I read in other places about other android phones that it's a possibly hardware issue it never occurred to me seeing that my issue started happening AFTER the update. So I guess don't rule out the possibility of the update screwing up hardware (I guess...I know nothing of phones but that's what happened with me).
Update: I turned the bluetooth and WiFi on simultaneously and now the problem of WiFi dropping has re-occurred . I put in my MicroSD card and now it's no longer detecting networks or turning on bluetooth once again. Maybe a dev could shed some light on this.
I think there are issues with the 37P radio which was flashed along with the update. If you are unlocked you can of course flash back to the 36P radio to verify.
I am currently back on .30P radio but I have already tried .36P and .37P with no luck. Maybe something from OTA update messed with something that doesn't get flashed?
WiFi dropping out
Same problem. Wifi drops out very 10-30 minutes just for a few seconds then reconnects. Before the update Wifi would stay connected for days without any issues. I am rooted only. I have the 37p radio. If anyone tried to go back to the 36p and it works could you please post instructions?
thanks.
PS i havent tried the bluetooth function yet.

Thanks I'll be adding my complaints. Really surprised more people aren't seeing this issue on here. My wifi worked perfectly before the update and started this mess literally within minutes of downloading it. It makes me doubt that I'll be able to wait until ice cream sandwich before biting the bullet and getting a new phone.
My wifi keeps dropping when im at home, but i havent noticed it do it at work, which is really odd. Worked fine before the update.
The last reply in that thread on the motorola forums suggested changing the DHCP lease time on my router from forever to 24 hours and so far (15 minutes) I haven't had one disconnect. Longest I've gone since the update so hopefully this will solve the issue. *fingers crossed*
could be your wireless router's DHCP lease time setting of forever (change to something less)...worth a try.
edit: double post of what Tre3180 ...some more info in the xda link
Perhaps the issue was going on from before the update but just became MUCH more pronounced after. I also have a Belkin router, for what it's worth.

Not likely. Most likely a bug introduced in the 2.3.6 build that we have. A lease time of forever = 0xffffffff = -1. Likely some new code treats this as "hey lease time has run out, go reconnect!!" instead of keep the connection.

WiFi Issues

So, I've only had my LGOG for a day and a half and I am having issues connecting with WiFi. At first it worked fine but when I left the coverage area and return a few hours later it would not connect. Tried turning off the WiFi but it kept turning itself back on. I reboot the phone and it works fine as soon as it boots up it connects the WiFi no problem. It is my work WiFi and I had no issues connecting to it from either my iPad nor my HTC One X that will soon find it's way to eBay thanks to this beautiful LGOG. If no one else is having issues, I will call AT&T and have them switch it out. I just wish there was an easy way to back up everything, I mean my home screens and app locations exc. It takes so long to set everything back up the way I find most useful.
WiFi on my device has been excellent.

The Wifi performance of this device is unbelievable. I get the best speeds I have ever seen with any device including PCs. It's either a faulty device or maybe your work has strange security settings?
I had this same problem with my LGOG and my home wireless network. It just would sit and try to connect until I rebooted the phone.
That was on stock though. I have not had any more problems with it after flashing the base rom.
My work has standard WPA settings and it was connected fine yesterday. I left again during lunch and when I came back, same problem and had to reboot the phone. AT&T is sending me another one already and a free case. Can't be too mad about it I guess and at least the phone reboots fast.
Have you tried using the ATT smart wifi app? Fixed the exact same issue for me.

I haven't had any issues connecting to wifi, but I've noticed the status bar icon showing low signal even though it's actually maximum signal.

Twice My O.G. wouldn't connect to wifi networks even though it had connected to them in the past. I tried to turn it off and on and scan for the network that I am in range of and it wont show any networks it just says "not in range" when I am in range. So to remedy the situation I turned the phone off and then on. It has only done this to me twice but it's a real nuisance because both times I needed wifi. My phone is stock.
You're in a minority. This thing's wifi blows most other wifi implementations out of the water.

I wish my wifi would stop re-enabling itself. It's chewing up my home bandwidth.
I have been having this issue as of late. It seems to have developed this habit in the last week or so. At first I thought it was Time Warner trolling me but it started happening at work. Something tells me it has something to do with the stock At&T Rom putting the wi-fi radio to sleep and not being able to bring it back online. Reboot fixes it most of the time but sometimes it takes a couple attempts. I have been hesitant to mod this phone still because I would really like to see CM working well before I flash. Also my instinct tells me another possible culprit could be IPv6 on certain routers. That, however, is far less likely unless someone with a decrapified Rom has experienced this issue as it would be a cross platform issue in this case. Anyone else have any insight? Otherwise it's time to get rid of the Att rom.

Same issue here. This is my second LGOG and have been happy with both except for some minor glitches on both with the keyboard freezing up as well as with the WiFi not re-connecting after leaving the area. A restart normally fixed both problems. My first one bricked after rooting and removing all of the bloatware (the phone checks for certain apps upon booting to keep you from removing stock apps). Tried a fix but I couldn't get a Rom at that point as the phone had been out on the market for under a week. I haven't messed with it since but I may try a new Rom and be able to fix the WiFi and get rid of all the bloatware that way.
Just got this ROM running today. No more WiFi issues at all. Some minor ui bugs I am OK with.

Seems like, as usual, At&T bloat ware is the culprit. I experienced the same on my Aria and Inspire. Hope this helps and good luck.
Also I had the keyboard problem but that went away when I switched to the Android default keyboard. One of the other reasons I decided to root was because rather than freezing, the Android default keyboard started typing then the auto correct broke and stopped displaying the words unless you touched the area you were typing in. It really bugged me when it started doing it right after I factory reset. Weird huh?

LG Optimus G Wi-Fi Receiver Disconnect Issue
Funny...I've had some weird home wi-fi issues on two of these.
To explain, I bought mine in December, stock OS of course, and immediately noticed it turning off my wi-fi every time I tried switching between the two home wi-fi SSIDs I created when I upgraded to DD-WRT. This also occurred outside my house, but stopped shortly after the nearly-immediate Android OS upgrade came over (and forced me to install it, I might also note; I'd read the thing was just more AT&T bloatware, but two or three boots later, apparently I got no choice, and it auto-installed).
The good news was, somehow, this 'update' somehow stopped the thing from turning the wi-fi off when I switched between IDs (my base router has a 5G 2nd network which I wanna use when I'm around it, but DD-WRT won't support, as far as expanding it--thusly, I have another 2.4GHz signal I use and relay out around my yard).
That bad news is, though, that I screwed up the phone with the Root Toolbox (Lite) by merely fiddling with their bootanim settings on that original phone. And I mean bricked it, solid.
I'd never bricked any phone, so this ticked me off. Luckily, I was still within 2 days of my 30-Day Best Buy in-store replacement warranty, so I took it back, they fiddled too, and gave up on it.
Hence, my 2nd phone...which now, even after the system update direct from AT&T, still turns off my wi-fi every time I try switching to that 2nd SSID, so I'm left wondering if it was even the same update; I don't think I did anything else, and can't see it as a settings issue, because it did it right out of the box, and the first one stopped after the only system update before I got a chance to even figure ANY user settings out, much less any network ones.
So, now I'm 'going shopping' for 'some PlayStore app' that will skip this B.S. and automatically connect to the strongest home wi-fi signal (within reason--sometimes they're equally strong), without obnoxiously turning off my wi-fi receiver as I look at it.
This kind of malarky could spoil some phones for some people, but I'll struggle along due to the speedy quad-core in it [sigh...wah!].
I guess I'm a big baby, seeing as how I don't write one iota of code, but my personal haughty view is that any dedicated wi-fi devices should have better wi-fi connection than any Windows OS made...and, so far, this'n doesN'T!
What a dumb thing to let happen in such a potentially awesome phone...[AT&T!!!]
This might work or not but can't hurt to try. Apparently some people in the new snowleopard JB thread was having similar issues and for a few, changing the security from WPA2 to WEP worked. Although mines been good and fine on WPA2 but worth a try.
Using wep in 2013 is beyond retarded.

DUDE! Senior Members here can be a little uppity and rude...even if they're completely correct.
Glad you called out the 'behavior', and not the 'member', though...
but enough of the technicalities...I'm still looking for solutions...beyond blaming AT&T (too easy), or even the strangeness of getting into blaming some weird kind of manufacturing errors (QC at best), I'm left waiting for a substantial OS update (like, oh a better place of decimal, perhaps?), or worse, an app...anyone look at the state (and sheer number) of 'wi-fi' apps? Anybody here can guess, they number in the thousands, and a Play search for 'wi-fi' gets you astronomically different results from 'wifi', even, so I'm not sure I need to be looking at that.
Maybe it's even somehow that, with the first phone, I noticed this, and somehow added my own home network to the AT&T Smart Wi-Fi 'bloatware' that came with the phone (not the worst evil they've ever done, so far, BTW--it does exactly what I imagined should be going on in the background while you're driving around, indexing locales with free Wi-Fi for you to choose to save later...an idea I would call 'Tarzaning', if you get my drift).
I'm gonna try changing two settings in the AT&T 'Smart Wi-Fi' bloatware to 'My Spots' temporarily, at least, to see if it'll latch onto my home stuff more aggressively. I just can't wait to report back my fantastically successful findings here (right after I buy the domain name 'snarkasm.net').
Oh crap...it's already taken.
Is the AT&T smart wifi thing enabled by default? I can't remember. I thought it sounded useful so I played with it a bit but ultimately I didn't like the way it worked so I disabled it.
Still wanted some way to auto-enable/disable wifi. I didn't have anything to go on, but I picked up "Smart WiFi Toggler" which seems to work well. It uses location-based rules (based on cell signals) by default. I also use AutomateIt to turn off mobile data once wifi has been on for 1 minute, and turn on mobile data immediately when wifi disconnects. I have no idea if this saves me any battery life, but I do it anyway.

[Q] Wifi woes

Hey guys I need some help with my Z2, I've had wifi issues on my phone for a while now with it constantly getting low speeds and random disconnects even when showing 2 or 3 bars of signal. I've tried it on multiple routers on multiple providers and the results have been the same, I've tried editing the router settings including changing the channels, the ghz from 2.4 to 5 and changing the security from wpa to wpa2. I never use stamina mode, or minimize battery usage on battery saving feature when using wifi so it's not that. I've tried factory resetting the phone and using the pc companion to reinstall the software version and that made no difference, I've even sent it back to Sony repair twice, the first time they factory reset the device which was pointless as I'd already done that myself and the second time they swapped out the wifi card and it was ok for a few hours but it soon started slowing down again, I spoke to a Sony rep today and he booked it in for repair again but I'm worried they're just going to fob it off again. He did say that one of my apps may be corrupt but again I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary with them or any unusual behavior with the phone apart from the wifi, not sure if there's a way I can find if any of my apps are corrupt apart from factory resetting the device and not installing any new ones for a couple of days but even that wouldn't pinpoint which one if any were corrupted. I would just send it back to Sony but at this point I'm not sure whether they can actually find out what it is and I don't want them to just keep sending me the same broken phone back. Anyone have any idea what the issue could be or what i should do so I can stop pulling my hair out and actually start enjoying this device? Thanks for any help in advance

Yes I am. No worries. Device is great. Just software.
Did a hard reset - problem persists. Not sure what the cause is - working with Asus support on it.
Hi, a friend of mine with a ZF9 has got reboot every night during charge (he uses slow charge, this night he'll try normal charge).
He had reboot even during daytime, he did a hard reset yesterday and for now everything is ok, but I'll update with new info in case of.
I've been having those reboots for weeks now. There is an official thread on the asus forums talking about it. There are more than a dozen people who have also reported it and from the looks of it, Asus hasn't found the source of the problem yet. Out of curiosity, in which country did you buy it? Are you rooted?
my version is a french version. I neither had any beta OS on it nor was it rooted. I wanted to provide Asus with Logs but they rather wanted the device for repair, now I'm waiting for its return.
I doubt this is a hardware issue though as the reboots did happen in cold state w/o any system activities ongoing. The only special thing on my setup was that I used two sim cards in parallel.
I did a hard reset and he problem remained. I also used slow charging.
I'm from Italy and the phone of my friend is not rooted and with bootlloader locked.
I heard my friend minutes ago, and from when he deactivated programmed charging the issue seems to have disappeared. Have you got programmed charging on?
Yes, I have the upload scheduled. But I'm beginning to suspect that the problem originates from a lot in Italy. I just asked you because I thought it was from there.
Love this phone but also having the same issue. Bought from Asus directly (US site) too. There's a whole thread of folks with the problem too on their forum:

Try to deactivate it and report please ;-)
My friend hasn't got reboot since then for now, two days and a half ago.
My reboots do not happen while charging, FWIW. And they're always while the phone is idle (sitting on desk). I look up and see it's spontaneously rebooting...
I was having reboots on custom kernel, just updated to 32.2050.2050.34 without going custom kernel (still rooted) and have had no reboots yet.
Mine reboots while watching YouTube app, either with high brightness, while charging, or both. It seems to be less likely to happen if i clear cache from YouTube settings.
It typically doesn't happen in other apps. Phone is stock. EU version.
After testing for a few weeks, there is a good chance that the reboots on my device are due to Magisk (not modules)
