I dropped my S7 the other day and I now have a small crack that goes from around the headphone jack and curves around to the left side of the screen to the edge about an inch up. There may even be a tiny nick down in the black section, I'm not certain. It's in a place where the crack doesn't bother me very much at all (especially since 1/2 of it is in the black section at the bottom off the screen), so I don't mind working with the crack, I just don't want things to get worse.
What's the best way to protect my phone from here on out to give me the best chance of things not getting worse?
I got a tempered glass screen protector (one with the top and bottom black part), but sensitivity is terrible. I have to push harder around the edges and I find swipe typing to be more difficult as well. Also, either I got a piece of dust under that's annoying or the top already got a nick. On the other hand, it seems as if this does provide some very good protection for the crack as as well as visually hiding much of it.
What about getting a dbrand skin for the front only? Since much of the crack is in the black section, the dbrand skin would cover that part. Is that of any help at all?
Any other suggestions?
Anyone have any thoughts on if I put a front dbrand skin, if that will both hide the crack in the black section of the phone and provide some support to prevent things from getting worse. With the skin and no screen protector though, then the part of the crack that's over the screen has nothing over it.

Well, for the benefit of the community, I thought it'd be nice to share my experiences with some screen covers.
I received the phone from a friend with ghost armor on it, but it had some indentations and weird spots on it so I went to the kiosk to have it reapplied for $5. I turned on the phone, and there is a big piece of dirt AND a hair under the screen, pissed me off because I had to go all the way back to the mall to get it reapplied again. The second time it seemed alright, but liquid "hazing" he said would go away never went away, which was also angering. I ordered ZAGG invisible shield, since they were having a 75% off sale for screen only. They sent me one, but it was really odd. They sent me one that was cut to cover the buttons, which makes no sense because the buttons aren't touch sensitive, you have to press them, which would cause air bubbles and deformations in the cover. Sure enough it did, I don't know why they designed it to cover the buttons, which aren't level with the screen at all times. I did my best to just cut the bottom portion off so it wouldn't cover the buttons. It worked enough, it doesn't look pretty, with pretty jagged edges, but at least the screen area itself has no irregularities. There are still a couple of vertical scratch marks I can see on a white screen, from the squeegee i'm guessing, so I'm hoping that those will go away in the next few days.
The whole screen protector covering the buttons also caused some issues with the liquid solution getting into the phone, and my home key stopped working for a few hours, but it seems to have come back, I was panicking there for a bit.
I had a ZAGG invisible shield on my g1 before it finally gave out, and ghost armor seemed to scratch easily, I always got dents and malformations imprinted on it within a few days. With the invisible shield I can take a key to it, and it won't scratch. I actually did this with my g1 as a demonstration. I think they have modified the material to glide more smoothly since my g1, so it's not AS resistant, but I'm pretty sure it'll be stronger than ghost armor was.
If you DO get invisibleshield though, cut the bottom off to make it flat, it will screw up your buttons otherwise. Also, with my experience and others' that I have read, applying it yourself ends up being better quality.
As for the "orange peel" thing, you can see it if you look at the reflection, but I can't feel it. That might be because I play guitar and have thick calluses on my fingertips, but I don't notice it when I touch the screen.
Ghost armor seemed to be better resistant to skin oils and smudges as well. My experience has been better with ZAGG though.
Personally I use the Mirrored Finish protector from Wireless Emporium online and after 4 months I simply clean it a couple times a week when I'm bored. Though I do have a clear one on order from them because the Mirrored Finish does darken the screen some and causes some refraction issues with some colors. I'm fairly rough with my phone and have no scratches after about 4 months of use. It is fairly fingerprint resistant but I do have kids and get odd stuff on my hands now and again.
Oh, and the protectors here don't overlay the buttons on the bottom at all.
kudos on the zagg shield i work at best buy and use that cover on my stuff. i just got a generic cover and cut out to match the screen of my slide but yes it is good stuff
Does it really help to have a screen protector on STR? My nook is always inside a case, and always have some finger smudges on the screen, which does not interfere with reading the screen content.
Would it make the screen harder to use, such as in a resistive screen? I know it has IR technology, not resistive lcd, but it is good to know...
I have a screen protector, because I have cats and dogs who're lurking around my nook, and I'd hate to see them scratch the screen. I'm not using any case for it. The film does not affect the touch sensitivity in any way...

I'm using a basic anti-glare screen film from ebay.
The nst is the first touch screen I have not used one on.
It is perfect now, the matte should hide small scratches, it gets used more lightly than phones/tablets, it is light (less damage if dropped), and it is cheap!
I am going to buy one.
I must warn you that it's VERY hard to apply it smoothly. I mean you'll get some air pouches caused by small particles, those bubbles won't go away no matter what you do. I prefer bubbles to permanent scratches though....

I ordered one. Was concerned that it would be tough to apply because of the high frame around the screen. Any tips how to apply well? You use a credit card to smooth the film down over the screen?
Oh one more thing. Has anyone tried removing one? Does it change or damage the screen in any way?
I have had several different screen protectors on my NST and none of them caused any damage when I removed them. I would note though that I have read that you must not apply a screen protector to the Glowlight, something about the built in screen protector and its light guide properties. I would also point out the one reason my NST has had multiple screen protectors is because they are so hard to apply without getting bubbles/lint between the screen and the film. The film I have on now I finally got applied without any bubbles/lint in the reading area, so it will hopefully be on there for a while. Make sure you are working in a CLEAN area and take great pains to get it lined up straight before actually applying it to the screen.
The NST doesn't need a screen protector, it really wont do much for the device, but if you really feel like spending the money for it go ahead.
The NSTG already has a protector built in, putting an extra one on would be like putting on an extra pair of latex gloves. It'll offer a little more protection, but it can get to be quite frustrating in terms of lost control. It's advised not to bother with a protector for the NSTG.
Personally unless you know you're going to have your NST in reach of creatures with claws, or lose objects with sharp edges the protective screen will do little for you. Even in those cases it's possible the screen would merely lessen the damage done rather than prevent it out right.
In regards to the NSTG and it's pre-installed screen protector, has anyone actually removed it? I've read lots of reports of people complaining about minor scratches and finger pressure marks causing the light to become very strong on those parts, wondering if removing the screen protector would fix that or whether it's instead a problem with the screen.

They claim there is one, I claim they lie as there is no visible edge of one. If there was you wouldn't get the light flares from minor scratches. Adding one may protect the screen but no idea what it would do to the light guide properties of the screen. If you ever have to remove it I'd worry what would happen to the light guide layer.
Because gadgets capabilities/sppecs increase rapidly & prices drop fast too, unless it's expensive I forget about screen protectors if the device is cheapish (got mine cheap) & if it will be outdated in a couple of years. Specially if it's not an outdoor device like my phone. Or if the protector hampers speed / functionality to some degree. Also personally I rarely scratch tab screens unless it's a phone, my phones/tabs all have protectors put on from day one, but not doing my NTSG. YMMV.
So thought I'd share this as I think I have figured out the best way to stick one on without bubbles!
Before anyone states that a screen protector is pointless because there already is one on blah blah, I disagree because I just like the reassurance that if the screen gets scratched it doesn't matter. Plus that preapplied screen protector is very good and well applied (obviously) so its a waste just to use that as a protector alone.
On my older phones I have always ended up scraping the screen protector because the bubbles annoy me so much, and they're a pain to apply. But with the XS I tried and got it perfect, thought it was just luck, but did it again and achieved a good result again.
First turn of the phone for 10 minutes (apparently the heat can cause bubbles) Wash your hands, clean a desk area and take your top of (wear a tshirt)
then clean the screen, its obviously but really clean it (I use a wet wipe and then dry it off with a clean cotton top) if you have the special cloth use this too.
Get a lamp and shine it on the screen check for any streak marks and polish these away until the screen is perfect. Blow gentle to remove any dust particles small hairs etc. I have found in the past that bubbles often have a hair in the middle of them which prevents the protector from not properly sticking.
Now the tricky bit, pull at the '1' tab to remove the protector sheet, but do this with that side facing downwards (so that any dirt in the air wont land on the sticky side) and lower it towards the screen.
Align the corners with THE TOP of the phone next to the sony logo and curve the protector so that the top of the protector touches the screen (the area around the speaker grill and logo. Double check that everything is aligned so it will fit perfectly when you lay down the rest of it. Don't worry about any bubbles here as they can be squeezed out easily (due to the speaker grill).
Now grab a card of some sort, my driving licence seems to work best and place it where the top of the screen protector has been applied. With the right hand keep holding the protector at the edge of it, and with your left hand firmly press down the card and slide towards the bottom of the phone. (be firm at this point don't worry the screen will be fine it can take this pressure!)
Slide all the way down and look at your job. hopefully there should be only a few bubbles around the edge, if there are ones in the centre then carefully peel it up and try again. (don't touch the sticky side obviously and make sure you don't touch the screen.
The bubbles around the edges and around the speaker grill can be squeezed out using the card. Go over it a few times and then pull the protector sheet '2' tab off. And there ya go a nicely applied screen protector!
I tried to be as detailed as possible but may post pictures later if people require them.
Attached are the photos of the 6T solid suit and the impact screen protector that I just installed this morning. The solid suit feels amazing and the screen protector is film and feels like glass, but is definitely not glass, just so there is no confusion there. It does seem to go from left edge to right edge completely and where I placed it seems to cover the entire screen top to bottom. The slider on the case really works and the buttons are fantastic; smooth and clicky, not at all hard to press. I love both and I'm glad I got them ordered on Black Friday now because two protectors and a case was not inexpensive but they are both super high quality and way more affordable than the glass one from T-Mobile so I'm happy with my purchase. If you have any questions I'll try my best to answer them!
Also, don't mind the doggo, she likes being in pictures.
Can u tell me how the side buttons are? Are they still clicky? Or are they mushy like the stock case that comes with the phone....
And how's the slider button? Is it flimsy?

The buttons are great, I handed someone else my phone so two people could verify that they are very clicky and easy to push. The slider has some play in it up and down but it does work correctly when it hits the slider on the device. No issues with functionality at all this is a really great case.

Is the screen protector you have on This one? It says "Not Full Coverage" on it... I can't see clearly on your photos how close to the edge of the screen the screen protector comes to... I had the same impact screen protector on my old Samsung Galaxy S7, and it didn't even cover the full screen on the left and right, which is the reason I didn't order this screen protector for my 6T..

Sorry about the late response I'm traveling abroad. I have the impact screen protector as the tempered glass one is for the back I think. Anyway, as far as not full coverage I think what they mean is that it covers the visible screen but not the edges past that. It doesn't extend fully top to bottom either but it does cover all the visible screen space as far as I can tell; no obvious cutoff of the screen though it does require precise placement to line it up properly.

Much slicker definitely. Feels like glass but definitely doesn't get rid of oil the way glass does. It feels good to the touch and it is very strong as I dropped on a stool and it bounced onto a hardwood floor right after that. There was no damage to the screen, but the protector did crack so I'll replace it when I get home. It did very well holding up to direct impact on a metal stool; lived up to the hype for me.
Can u take better pictures of the screen protector again?

I also purchased a SolidSuit (with the lens mount) for my 6T and while I like the build material, I don't like the little details. Let me explain:
1) The back of the case has this weird look and feel like it's made from three separate medium-fiber density board with a black sticker over it. I can actually feel the transitions between the three pieces and I don't like it. See the attached picture.
2) There is a noticeable gap at the top of the phone where the back meets the bumper edge. However, on the bottom, it's completely flush. My pockets are clean, but somehow dust and small particles find its way into that tiny gap. Ugh,
3) The special lens adapter is amazing since I am now able to mount the Moment 18mm WIDE V2 lens. However, since the bayonet mount sits so far away from the camera lens, it creates vignetting. FYI: The OP6T and the OP6 share the same lens adapter. I bought both. They are labeled differently, but they are identical in every way: height, mounting point, etc. If they did this correctly, the adapter for the OP6T should be SHORTER since it does NOT have the same camera height protrusion as the oneplus 6.

It didn't shatter really, it just cracked along a seam where the impact was. When I get back home in two days I'll try to get pictures of the crack and the screen protector.
Just in case anyone is thinking to remove the inner screen protector on their Find N2 (fold) - don't.
I am crying for days now after removing it, and I hope I can at least save the heart ache to other people.
The screen didn't break or anything, but two things happened:
1) Unlike the front screen, the glass surface under the inner screen is not very smooth. My fingers glide easily on the front screen with its protector removed, but there is some resistance on the naked inner screen; not as "oily". This is the smaller problem.
2) The crease is now VERY visible. What I didn't realize is that the original screen protector is a little matte, and it makes a great job deflecting lights reflections on both sides of the crease. With it removed, the surface is more glossy, and some light always finds its way to the crease, making it visible. If I look at the screen tilted away from me, I don't see it as much. But that's not a natural way of holding the screen.
Please think twice before removing it.
If there is someone who already removed it, and found a good aftermarket protector to apply, please share your experience.
