Hi,
How can i know if a phone is rooted or not. If yes should i grant any permissions to those files or can i directly access those files/folders.
I need this info for my app.
Thanks in advance,

It depends on the phone. What is the device you're interrested in?

Check if /system/app/Superuser.apk exists or if a "su" command exists.

[Q] What's the deal with apps not able to write to sdcard in 4.4?

Seems that since 4.4 apps can't write to the sdcard but just to a specific folder on sdcard/android/blablabla
and some apps don't even have that folder
what's the deal with that nonsense?

You can bypass it by using XPosed framework and the module "HandleExternalStorage"

Is installing a whole framework the only option at the moment?
What's the logic behind this crazy limitation?
Ich Don't know about the logic... Using xposed or a custom rom are the only methods I know. May be someone else got another solution.

Nonsense? No. It's for security purposes (according to Google). Annoying? Yes. Easiest way is the Xposed module, like mentioned or this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix

I understand the security reasons but would have been nice to give us the choice.
For exampe, yesterday I wanted to download something on the phone and couldn't since the download program can't write to the SD card neither seemed to have it's own folder.
Thanks for the link by the way, now I just have to root my phone

Well, unfortunately, since the vast majority of people have no clue about how their phone works or it's security, I think they just have to shoot for the lowest common denominator. But anyway, if you need help rooting, lemme know. That's kind of my forte.

[Q] Resigning a ROM?

I want to be able to sign system apps with my own signature - without having to patch services.jar to disable signature verification.
Is it possible to replace the default signature keys in an AOSP KK rom? If yes, how?
And no, I'm not talking about signing a flashable rom zip.
Had a look at system/etc/security folder in rom, might this be a place to start?
Anyone?

I don't think it can be possible ....platform key is only the way to sign system application

Where do I find this platform key in a rom (or its) sources?

Best Root Apps for the Honor 8

Best Root Apps for the Honor 8
For those of you with rooted Honor 8s, what are some of the best root apps you're using? Here's a small collection that I'd recommend checking out.
Root Browser
The default file explorer on the Honor 8 wont be able to explore the root sections of your phone. So if you plan on modifying any files in your root directories, grab the Root Browser.
Root Browser is the ultimate file manager for rooted users. Explore all of Android's file systems and take control of your Android device.
Download Root Browser
System app remover (ROOT)
There might be a few system apps that you want to get rid of once you've rooted your Honor 8. If that's the case, this is my favorite app to do this. It's fast and to the point. For me, I can do without the weather, smart controller, compass and backup apps.
Download System app remover
Substratum theme engine ★ root
The substratum theme engine is a growing collection of some amazing themes for your phone. Replace the default EMUI theme catalog with Substratum.
Download Substratum theme engine
Emui is compatible with substratum?
Iaa85 from Brazil with Honor 8
Does anyone know of a list of which stock apps can, might and should not be removed from the Honor 8?
Currently am working on a list of all applications that can be safely removed.
i personally use xplore instead of root explorer, but it's a matter of taste i think.
and if you only want to freeze apps, than you can use titanium backup (too).
Unfortunalety, the linked System App Remover have no option to freeze apps.
i'm very interested of this list, because i like my phones clean

The I know but it takes time to move everything to a PC as I don't have a lot of space on my SD card, so I'm not gonna try substratum

So, you've got one app that's great for every rooted phone but is far from the best root browser, one app that's great for every rooted phone but not needed on the Honor 8 because most of the bloat can be uninstalled normally, and one app that doesn't work on the Honor 8 at all. Great thread you have here.
