LG G7 will you buy it? - LG G6 Guides, News, & Discussion

Where only possible 3 or 4 months away from the launch of the G7 obviously it not going to have the Snapdragon 845 thank to Samsung.
My guess at specs.
Snapdragon 835
4GB of ram
64GB of storage as standard
Micro SD
18:9 5.7" POLED display at 2k
Quad DAC on all G7's variants
Improved dual camera with a more upto date sensor.
Headphone jack
USB Type C
ip68
Wireless charging on all G7 variants
Basically it more likely be a smaller version of the V30, unless they go for even slimmer bezel's this time around.
So will you buying one or will you wait for the V30 which will eventually drop in price & probably cost less than the G7 when that launches.

G7 will have snapdragon 845

I have my 870DS since August, why should I buy a new one if it's gonna die in 3 years, then I will think about a G10

Same to me...
Shifted from G3 to G6 after 2 happy years.
---------- Post added at 07:32 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:30 AM ----------
I'm waiting for :
6GB of ram.

I'll probably wait for LG V40

Don't really see what could be an upgrade at this point.
Sure, you can always go faster processor, more RAM yadda yadda...
But let's be true here: the G6 is already a beast and you can hardly get it to stutter with normal usage (even with an realtively "old" processor).
So "upgrading" from G6 to a possible G7 seems odd.
Maybe from older devices, yes.

I've had my G6 for less than two months. G7?
I don't know. Not without the latest and greatest processor.
I wouldn't buy one with an 835 in it.

Daaaaaaamn these smarpthone versions releases are rolling like hot cakes... shiiit Just got the G6 & V30 just been released holy madre...
For me if the G7 comes with better of all inclluding the Cine Log feature from V30 and a way better front Camera as well as improved or better Back camera and if, only if it comes to Videotron here in Quebec/Montreal as this time, Videotron Marketing guys were stupid enough to not get the LG V30 but instead they got Exlusive Pixel 2 & 2XL and they're not selling at all.. yeees i'd buy the G7 and also if the form factor of the overall phone is a bit wider in the feel of the hands as the G6 seems a bit thinner in terms of grip I find. And would be nice if Videotron could get LG phones that comes with DAC features
By the way, those who own a G6, did you guys noticed that Instragram has been pre-installed? If yes, how can I fully un-install it, i mean fully without leaving any trace of it so I can go and install some Instagram Mods??
Thanks guys

If you buy the unlocked versions (US or international) you can unlock the BL.
If they are carrier branded, the carrier decides if the BL can be unlocked.
But I guess you won't be buying Samsung either. KNOX is a pain.

I'll probably keep my G6 for another year or so. I think after that I'll hop over to a pixel phone.

well I'm from india..here only locked bootloader available..and even if i import the device bands wont match and data gives me trouble..and I'm using my old Samsung note5 kept the g6 aside from almost 2 months

Will never buy an lg phone ever again...for the simple fact that most versions are not boot unlocked. Especially in canada where I am. I got the lgg6 and still no news about a root. Ill go back to samsung.

Hi,
Good to find some Montreal folks here By the way, I don't know if my information is correct but with Videotron or with the new law that has pass here in Quebec, when you buy a new smartphone, 2 months after you can call your carrier and tell them to fully "Unlock" your phone, meaning the BL. Just bought a week and half ago my LG G6 (coming from Nexus6P, had to change cuz battery draining fast now, gonna change the battery) and I asked the question to the seller and he confirmed to me, that in December, just call Videotron or come by and will make the call for you to get your LG G6 fully unlocked. And I told him, if ain't true i'm going back to kick his ass. And thats when he also mentioned me about the new law as well. So I don't know if this applies to other carriers (should be as long as you're in Quebec/montreal etc..) but you should double check.
By the way, are you saying that Samsungs phones when you buy them here either Videotron or Bell etc.. they are already Unlocked??? Can you confirm??
Also whats the reason you got the LG G6?? Me its mostly the Wide Angle feature. I was battling between Note8 & LG G6 and I went with the LG G6 even though I know that in terms of quality, Samsung Note 8 camera has an edge over the G6 and I heard that Note8 takes also two pics when you take a pic including a wide one but Note8 from what i've research does NOT have that WIDE ANGLE feature LG has... am I wrong???
Very curious

Hey man
Well Bootloader lock is not the same as carrier lock. The carrier lock thing you are talking about I already know about it. Its not the same thing. Everywhere in canada there will be no more carrier lock on any phone starting December amd you can call to unlock for free if u had a phone before that.
A boot lock is not the same tho. I went with LG instead of samsung cuz at the time the note 8 and s8 wasnt out yet...i was always a Samsung guy... Also the g6 looked nice and had a big screen...wht i didnt know tho is that lg has menu buttons on screen that you cannot hide unless u buy an app and they eat away from the screen making it a small screen size after all. Also lg has a bad history of not unlocking bootloaders and i didnt know that...samsung on the other hand, I was able to root on day one! All the samsung notes i had from the first nite to the note 5.
I've been trying to sell my g6 and get a note 8.
But aside from all that...the g6 is a great phone...battery life is crazy on it...it lasts a full week on one charge with heavy use. But lets face it...we are all here because we want to root and customize our phones not just to talk how nice they are haha.

Hey man, thanks for your reply and for explaining the difference btw the two Bootlaoder & carrier lock. Appreciate . Thats one other reason why I always had Google signed phone whether developed by Huawei or LG etc.. but with google phones I could as well UNLOCK them instantly.
True about LG G6 menu button on screen but for me that does NOT really bother me to be honest. First thing I did when I got my G6 is install Nova Prime Launcher and make it look like Stock android Oreo period and the rest stays LG style. You see I didn't know much about LG's bad history in regard to unlocking bootloaders
For me, I had and still have an amazing offer DEAL for the Note8 with Videotron but as long as Note can't have that G6 Wide angle option camera, I can pass the Note8 and maybe wait and see what the S9 will bring. Cuz honstly the G6 is a stunning phone just the screen is stellar. Sucks that Videotron ain't getting the V30 this time, they decided to get Pixel phones.
Oh well, lets crossfinger that a working unlock bootloader of G6 or LG will come soon
Best,

Since I like snappin photos, especially in low light conditions and I am pretty dissapointed with how lg treats its european costumers I'll definitely go for a samsung or google phone.

[Q] Should i get this phone?!

Im thinking of up grading to the Vibrant. Any reason not to? Is there a better phone on the horizen? Im currently with T-mobile and dont want to switch. Thanks in advance!!
Only other choice is the T-Mobile G2 (Oct 6.) or myTouch HD (rumored to release November '10?). I've gotten the Vibrant since week one and don't regret getting it. The Super AMOLED screen is definitely beautiful and one of the things admired most from this phone.
get it
best screen. like a hdtv in your pocket
t-mobile has great 3g speeds
hummingbird > snapdragon
released in 100+ countries, including every major carrier in the US so community support should be huge
there's always better phones on the horizon, but this is the phone i've been waiting for ever since the iphone was announced years ago. and it hasn't disappointed
no it sucks. *at the airport, using vibrant to tether 3g to laptop*
G2 is very appealing and I am considering switching... it comes down to physical keyboard and stock android VS bigger and much better screen, slightly better hardware..

while i understand this viewpoint, touchwhiz is easily disabled. there is also no guarantee that the G2 will get the same OTA updates as the N1 simply because it is stock android. the original droid on verizon is a good example.
but yeah, if you need/want a hardware keyboard the G2 is a better choice (obviously). unless you can deal with sprint and the epic
I got two. My wife approved.
My 3rd android phone (just from passion of the OS), this is by far my most favorite of them. Speed, Design, Display... love everything about it.
Touchwiz is actually very usable from personal experience and reviews. It added alot of 'shortcuts' that makes life alot easier. For example, swipe notification bar to change brightness while outdoor, instead of going through 3-4 menus. Overall, Vibrant is a very solid phone at stock, definitely recommend it.
Only issues now are the GPS and Froyo, mostly Froyo.
+Amazing looking screen, ignore the iPhone 4 people and their color fidelity nonsense, the Vibrant is more colorful that the iPhone 4 and looks a lot better when viewing pictures and movies.
+Runs very fast, 1ghz processor.
+Very thin and light compared to the iPhone 4 (especially now that everyone has put a case on theirs), the back is plastic not glass, but I like saving the weight and I think the patterned back looks fine, comes with 2 colored backplates in the package I got.
+Android, with an open market, unlike At&t's flavor, the Captivate.
+Currently the best T-mobile phone available if you need to get a new one right now.
+Shoots 720p at 30fps. Big selling point, my friend bought a flip video and my phone takes the exact same quality of video and I don't have to carry an additional device, the camera is 5mp and also quite good.
Some downsides
-T-mobile took out some features from the stock Galaxy S, including fm radio, front facing camera and flash. I don't really need a front facing camera or a flash, the night mode works very well and renders a flash almost useless. Fm radio would be nice but I can live without it, I just loaded up my own music.
-Bloatware, it comes with a slew of crappy apps that you cannot remove without rooting. I would strongly recommend rooting, deleting bloatware, and then unrooting (The sales rep. at T-mobile actually recomended this ) It's about as safe as it can get and very easy, 1 click root and unroot, just look for it on xda. Also expect this on other T-mobile phones, except maybe the G2.
If you can wait a little just to see what's planned for the winter you might consider it, but I doubt you will be that disappointed if you buy the vibrant now. T-mobile has had a sad list of Android phones besides the Nexus One, so I doubt there's anything better than the myTouch or G2 coming out.

So you're upset that T-Mobile isn't getting the Samsung Galaxy S Tab? What makes you think that it is 100% on Samsungs part?
This is the SAMSUNG VIBRANT forum, I honestly don't care too much about a tablet because I'll never use it. I just find the tablet and the Vibrant to be irrelevant. If anything.. why would you would a contracted tablet? If anything I would want a WiFi only version and just tether with my phone.
Samsung has been moving away from cutting exclusive deals with wireless operators for its growing slate of mobile devices. It launched its most recent smartphone, the Galaxy, with the top four U.S. wireless operators, Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile USA. T-Mobile USA, a unit of Deutsche Telekom AG and the fourth-largest U.S. wireless carrier, hasn't yet worked out a deal to carry the tablet, a person familiar with the matter said.

Does anyone know when the V30 may be available from Amazon (Verizon Version)? Thanks.
Also - any other recommendations for where to purchase the Verizon V30 from - looking for a vendor who has a longer return policy in case I don't care for the phone.
Thanks.

The V30 is what the G6 SHOULD have been. Better CPU, and ALL the specs: more storage, Quad DAC, Qi wireless charging -- which LG only put in a few G6 and there was no model that had it all. They did make a G6+, but only the South Korea G6+ had all the specs, but it still had the Snapdragon 821.
With the Snapdragon 835 you have must faster CPU and gigabit modem speeds.

#1. the g6 for me feels better in hand, I've got average sized hands and for a 5'8 guy. it's not that the phones huge or my hands are donald trump small.
but I really like the security and the solidity of the build of the g6. the 100% flat screen and the thicker sides. I'm very outdoorsy person and I really don't want to risk dropping or breaking my phone when reaching for it to take photos. I love the camera, the speed, the PLED screen. the v30 is amazing basically everything about it beats the g6. The camera software, the bluetooth music quality. IDC about the Q-dac truly. I use 64gb Sd card anyhow so the v30 being 64gb internal over the 32gb of the g6 is not a big deal.
But think about it would I rather have a "better" phone as a daily driver that I'm constantly worrying about dropping or breaking or a SOLID 100% great phone that I have no worries over and also the
v30 is seemingly a SOB to get a nice GLASS screen protector for. I've ordered 5 from amazon and shall see which ones work with cases without being too small to fit the full screen. I hate the ones with gaps on the side. There's no issues at all with the v30 100% great phone 2017 flagship. the g6 is a great phone but a year late truly .but I'm okay with that. I'd rather not have a great phone that I possibly break vs a really good phone that i've got no issues with.

V30 now, or gamble on the future G7?

I know the S9 and LG7 are just rumors and there's little news, but I'm looking for some insight into what's likely to happen based on previous releases and time frames.
The problem I'm currently having with buying the unlocked V30 now (after waiting a couple months for the actual release) is the Snapdragon 845 chipset in early 2018 as well as rumors of the S9 and LG7 releasing in January. While I'd rather not wait, I certainly can wait.
I want an unlocked phone with root (and a headphone jack) that's 100% compatible with Verizon. Based on the history of Samsung S8 (and previous) and LG G6 (and previous) how likely is it we'll get this in an S9 or LG7 at all (vs before February)?
I've had high hopes for the Razer Phone, Google Pixel 2 XL, S8 Active, One Plus 5T, etc, etc, etc.... all failed for various reasons like incomplete Verizon support, no headphone jacks, etc. It shouldn't be this complicated, ha.
So, any thoughts on the unlocked V30 now... or holding off (painfully, but maybe smartly) for an unlocked G7???
thank you.

You'll be waiting a long time. G6 unlocked finally was released in May, but not placed on the LG Developer Bootloader Unlock list until well into June for the European unlocked version. Was June 29 (practically JULY) for the North American US997.
Oh, LG will ANNOUNCE G7 in January or February. For CARRIERS. But to get an unlocked open market version in your hands and get it on the LG Developer Bootloader Unlock list? Mid-June to July.
Look at the V30. ANNOUNCED August 31. North America carrier unlocked V30 version (not even V30+ yet) shipped December 1, and hopefully placed on the LG Developer Bootloader Unlock list by end of the year.
For some reason, LG S-T-RE-T-C-H-E-S it out. They can't just announce a phone and release it.

Thank you... that's exactly the kind of info I was looking for. I don't follow phone hardware unless I'm looking to buy and since I only buy every 2-3 years I suck on following the trends and history of what actually happens.
I suspected that would be the case, oh well. V30 it most likely is then.
EDIT... since I have you online... the unlocked V30 from B&H supports every Verizon band for LTE and CDMA yes? Just double checking if you happen to know.

Why did 5T failed for you?
I kinda have a similar internal struggle right now xD
My current OnePlus 2 still works fine, especially with all those Oreo ROMs now, but... I kinda wanna have something new, yet I should safe more money (poor student problems lol).
And i dont wanna "waste" my money on a phone thats completly locked down, or has barely any support (had that with the G Pro, was kinda.... meh, even though it was a really great phone actually, but barely any devs there), and we dont know that for sure yet about the V30...
It also doesnt kinda "fullfill" all of the things i have on my wishlist for my next phone (like a metal back, USB 3.0/3.1 Gen 1 or Gen 2).
And then... with the rumors of the Galaxy S9 and LG G7 maybe be announced in January with the Snapdragon 845... feels a bit like i would buy an outdated phone (by the time the US version also gets its unlocked bootloader, and the community starts to build ROMs and so xD)
Edit: And with my "new" carrier here for mobile internet, my phones missing LTE Band 20 (have the chinese oneplus 2, which doesnt support that, and unlocking didnt work :/)
And dont forget Project Treble... which would also be nice xD

Plan to root, LG G6 or LG V30?

So my phone busted, I pulled out the G5 I've had in a drawer for awhile and the GPS doesn't work very well (never did) I drive for a living so that's not going to work.
I found a refurbished G6 (with warranty) and a used V30 for about the same price, I was hoping to root to get rid of bloatware and boost performance if possible, any pros vs cons of either or any help deciding would be greatly appreciated
Ps: I'm a noob to rooting

1) All V30/V30+/V30S can be bootloader unlocked and rooted.
2) Even without bootloader unlock and root, the V30 is much better than the G6. Late 2017 V30 is what the early 2017 G6 should have been, but wasn't. G6 had "regionalized" specs for different variants, and old 2016 Snapdragon.

Ordered the V30
Should arrive Thursday but I won't get to it until next week (family plans for the weekend)
I plan on going through the step by step guide to rooting as soon as possible, any tips tricks, or recommended downloads for someone new to rooting?

What variant did you buy? LS998, H931, H930, etc?
Where do you live (what country) and if in U.S., what carrier?
If you live in U.S., hope you didn't buy any of the H930 variants due to lack of U.S. frequencies...
LS998
I'm already on sprint anyway

OK. When it arrives, activate on Sprint first before making any changes.
I would like to get rid of as much of the sprint apps as possible as well as get rid of some of LG's stuff such friends and their fitness app anything piggybacking on actual needed software or are those safe to delete?
I'm sure there are others I'd like to get rid of but that's all that's coming to mind without the actual phone in my hand

Thanks I'll be sure to do that first
I still need to inspect and diagnose as much as possible before investing time into it anyway
I couldn't get the secret menu to work on my G5 I imagine it'll be the same with the V30
Something they got rid of or restricted accesses to with a security patch or something?

We can talk more when you get your phone. While there are some things you can uninstall like the social media apps, be very careful uninstalling system apps. It's safer to freeze them in Titanium Backup than to try to actually remove them.
People get irritated when they hear that, but a lot of this firmware is interconnected. You can remove something you don't think you want or need and it affects something you do need.
Best to freeze it. It's not running, it's not visible -- and if you find something has been affected you can easily unfreeze it.
Lots of people have tried to remove a whole bunch of stuff, then complain how much the phone is lagging. Whereas this firmware (latter Oreo especially) is very optimized with pure stock. I'm running rooted stock firmware with some Magisk and Xposed mods.
Again we can discuss this further when you actually get your phone and it's rooted.
Ok, I got the V30 but now I'm having trouble activating it, can anyone tell me what model sim card I'm supposed to use with sprint?
The people working at sprint didn't know and I only found one source online, it said W416Q, I just want to make sure I don't simply have the wrong sim cardView attachment 4869561
Ok update I've got the phone working with both data and calling, I'm going to read up and plan on touring as soon as possible
Just to verify I'm still curious about the SIM card, just want to make sure I'm not missing any bands or anything

I also did part time gig jobs driving, used to use LG G5 before that had major GPS issues (GPS location on phone used to be off by about 30 feet). I also replaced it and have LG G6, V30, and V35. For practical reasons I found LG G6 to be more driver friendly due to it's size/form factor, it's easier to handle it while your hands when you are busy carrying 5 Amazon boxes for deliveries lol. V30 is a lot bigger/wider phone and I have dropped it a few times because of that. You can put tempered glass screen protectors easily on the G6 and a rubber/tpu slim case gives a good grip on holding the phone. For LG V30, glass screen protectors don't work for me (I use skinomi wet screen protector) because of the curved edges and almost all the tpu cases I have bought for it on eBay and Amazon leave the screen exposed beyond the case edge making it more vulnerable to damage from falls. As far as using the phone itself, they are both great phones with V30 being more responsive due to more powerful chip in it.
The Oled screen is more vibrant and colors look awesome on the V30 but be warned that these types of screens easily get LCD burn-in and for drivers who have navigation apps open on the screen for hours, it is even more likely that you will get a LCD burn issue on a V30 where a ghost image of the navigation app burns into screen permanently and shows on screen at all times especially against white or bright backgrounds (this is why you will find a LOT of V30 phones with LCD burns on sale on eBay and elsewhere). I used a G6 for a couple of years doing gig jobs and in my experience IPS LCD display holds out pretty well with extended screen-on times. Although, I did notice bright spots appearing on screens after a while on a couple of my LG G6 phones that I used.
Unlocking bootloader and rooting is easy on both phones as there are great guides by devs Runningnak3d, ChazzMatt and JohnFawkes. SInce you own LS998, as ChazzMatt mentioned in his WTF post, you might wanna look up JohnFawkes's TWRP flashable stock rom which has some useful modifications.
Edit: Personally, I own and use both G6 and V30, most times I use G6 for work lol and then swap sim back into V30 when not working. As for my V35 it is too fancy to be used for anything LOL, a really great phone probably the best LG phone I have ever owned, just wish it could be rooted.
I actually like the G5 a bit, the screen is sharp and clear (could be brighter though) and talk about burn in, but it worked well for me and i really liked the infared blaster
The most noticeable difference is the size and the brightness of the OLED on the V30
I actually had a V30 that I leased through sprint on a promotional deal I paid $7 a month for the phone but i paid $15 a month for insurance, i had that for 18 months. either way the point is I've used both phones for awhile as well as a G6 for a little while in between (i was actually fine with that but my G6 crapped out (motherboard, same as my G4 before that) and there was that deal on the V30 it looks and works great
Because my last V30 was owned by sprint i didn't think about rooting but now I'm excited to see what this phone can do at its full potential
I don't recall any burn in issue with the V30, i didn't realise that was still an issue with OLED, besides i usually have my brightness set at 75% unless I'm watching a movie on my phone

Don't think there's any non LG phone with this good audio. Try and see if Axon phones have a high quality dac
Otherwise I'd say redmi k20 pro is a pretty solid phone for the price of around 350$
I was also thinking about maybe replacing the screen but i see that tmobile v30 costs almost the same as a replacement screen

Get another V30 -- especially V30+. Are you a T-mobile customer? Even T-mobile customers often use US998 instead of T-mobile H932. The Dev who rooted the T-mobile H932 sold it, briefly got a crappy OnePlus, then came back to V30 but got US998 V30+. He's a T-mobile customer.
You can get MINT US998V30+ for like $130 on eBay.

Thanks a lot man i will be doing that buying right now
Edit: ordered already that quality of music from v30 cant keep me away from it
I cracked my V30 screen too, couldn't stand looking at it anymore so I grabbed a mint condition V40 for $180. The screens only .4 inches bigger but that lil bit makes a huge difference. Plus the colors/resolution are much better too. V50 is nearly identical except for 128GB vs 64GB, a lil bigger battery and 5G, everything else is same, chip, RAM, screen, size.. Still use the V30 though for root apps.
This is what I would get if my V30 died today:

My two US998 V30+ are both 128GB.
2018 V40 (Snapdragon 845) has completely different chipset from 2019 V50 (Snapdragon 855).

Nah. Notch.
If you're going to get a 2018 LG 64GB Snapdragon 845, get the LG V35 not the V3l40
V35 is a V40 in a V30 case, but with no notch.
V35 is also less expensive than the V40, but same internal specs. Not only sold by AT&T, but Amazon, several Latin America variants and North American Open Market, all of which can be cross flashed.
Drawback is the only ones available are 64GB. I have one mint, still in the box.
Brazil got 128GB V35+, but I can't get one online.

Are either of the V35 or V40 bootloader unlocked yet? That would be a major dealbreaker for me.

EU V40 has the LG official bootloader unlock.
All others including V35 have paid root through TeamViewer, which may or may not include Bootloader Unlock. People remote into your PC and work on your phone through your PC. Costs like $20, I think?
Or you can buy a used phone, already rooted from China seller.
This is why V35 in particular never took off in this forum (unlike V30), and has no custom ROMs, etc.
Dev runningnak3d started working DYI Bootloader Unlock and Root on the V35, then gave up.
V35 is a better phone than the V40. It's sad that LG caved into the notch on the V40.

So no, they aren't That's a shame, there's no way I'm letting someone into my PC on TV, that's insane. Still rocking the 128GB V30+ so guess I'll stick with it forever!
how about the lg g8 ( unlocked from sprint/verizon ) ? any possibility of flashing stock rom on that?

Now $125 from same seller:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/LG-V30-US998-128GB-Titan-Black-Unlocked-Smartphone-9-10/183795406681
Got my baby it looks brand new
I am in the same boat: My H932 V30+ is finished, digitizer got wonky to the point where I couldn't use it anymore. I didn't want to spend $150 to repair it this time, but also not sure what to choose instead.
Following are my thoughts:
1) I love V30+ and would buy another in a heartbeat if I could get a new one at a reasonable price with 2 years warranty. Between my wife's and my own V30 I've seen enough issues that I want (need) that warranty. Buying used or "seller refurbished" I'd assume that either the battery is in poor shape, OR the phone has been opened and lost IP68, OR both. I don't trust ”mint" to mean anything other than "no deep scratches". I am not ruling it out, but it has to be cheap compared to the alternatives.
2) I always found V35 a great alternative, being a V30 with 6GB/SD845. I really kick myself for not buying one of those unlocked Cricket/AT&T units for $149 last summer. Right now it's probably my best bet at ~$275-300 new (2 years warranty). Downsides are just 64GB (not much on an A/B slot phone). And it would be an AT&T model which cannot be updated without cross-flashing -- which will lose that 2 year warranty anyway. Non-AT&T variants (ULM/GFI) are overpriced.
3) I've looked at G8, which is now $4-500 new for TMO/AT&T variants (more for factory unlocked QM7 variants). Solid specs with 6GB/128GB/SD855. It also supports Band 71 which I would like: If TMO ever goes live with B71 where I live, I'll switch my Red Pocket plan from AT&T to TMO and gain VoLTE. (V30 and V35 don't have B71, except H932 which I would never buy again). But G8 price is still too high for me. And I hate that power button on the side, love V30's fingerprint/power combo on the back. I am OK with G8's form factor and notch, although not as elegant as V30/V35. I also found my V30 screen to be better than G8, even after adjusting color and brightness settings.
4) I don't really need root: I can uninstall bloat and trackers with ADB, and I am more concerned about warranty anyway. But I hate not having the OPTION to root after the warranty period. That of course means V30 > V35 > G8: I don't expect G8 will ever get root. I am not ruling out remote root of V35, though I dislike it as much as the next guy. And I doubt there will ever be custom ROMs to keep V35 relevant after LG stops updating.
5) Unfortunately Quad DAC is less of a priority for me than it was: In just a couple months Meniere's disease has killed my ability to listen to music at anything but the most rudimentary level. I am still hoping I can beat it or improve it over time, so having the Quad DAC would be nice. But if such a wonderful thing were to happen, I could just buy a USB DAC or Shanling M0. Most of my listening is (was) at home anyway.
6) I checked OnePlus 7T in a TMO store and would consider it (not from TMO, of course) if it cost less (currently $599); and more importantly, if the form factor wasn't so ridiculous: It's narrower than V30 and about 12 inches long (well, maybe not quite ) The OnePlus notch is the best I've seen, and I could live with it.
I've been using my old Nexus 5 backup phone for the last few weeks, hoping some deal will come out to sway me one way or another. But that may not happen until after MWC in late February...
Any thoughts or input are much appreciated.
Edit: I saw the eBay listing linked by @ChazzMatt and wrote the seller to ask if he can say anything about battery and whether the phones have been opened. I imagine he bought them bulk, so may not be possible for him to answer -- which I can understand.
