CSC change - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

I got the Verizon Note 8 and flashed the T-Mobile firmware using the carrier change tutorial here. It has all the T-Mobile branding but it still has traces of Verizon:
1. download mode has CSC of VZW
2.settings -> about phone service provider SW ver it says TMB/TMB/VZW
How do I get those 2 changed to TMB so it is 100% like a phone that came from T-Mobile?

The 3rd code is the original CSC for the phone & can't be changed.... well unless you have root you can try.
Why do you want to change it? It won't really affect anything.

Do have root that doesn't break the Knox flag?

Generally yes but I don't know what variant you have. Assuming you have a US U variant then no but the current root method has other drawbacks to be considered.

Thanks! I'll look! If I end up rooting, how do I get the other 2 variables changed in the CSC?

I'm not sure exactly, I never looked into it much. IIRC you have to edit nv files in the efs folder. Mine is TMB/TMB/XEF, I never cared really as there's no reason to try & change it. The first 2 are all that really matters.

If you follow the guide correctly you can completely change your phone to a different carrier. I got my Note8 from Xfinity, canceled service and got it unlocked. I followed the guide here and now have a phone with firmware exactly the same as a Verizon Note8, no traces of the Xfinity firmware.

You misunderstood my question . I already have that and followed the guide but there is still a small remnant of the old carrier. Look in your about section on your phone.

Everything looks fine, wanna take a screenshot and show me what youre talking about?

This last CSC code is hardcoded in the device to show where was originally bought it will never change without root.

Easy fix if you're rooted....but not worth rooting if that's all you want to change....however you could root, then change the value and then return to stock unrooted and the setting will stick.

Edit the 3 letter code in the sales_code.dat (the one in the carrier folder phone is)
Example i have a tmobile branded phone to change i would navigate to /system/omc/TMB/etc and in the "etc" folder open sales_code.dat with text editor and change the 3 letter code to what you want.

Does that also fix the bootloader info? When you go into download mode, it shows VZW there also.

This information is stored in the EFS partition as this code is the original provider of the phone.
You can change it but is a bit risky losing IMEI.
I dont know how. This might help

Have you tried that & does it actually change the 3rd CSC? Cause that's not the way to change it that I'm aware of. My sales_code.dat is TMB but my 3rd CSC has always been XEU.

I could be wrong but I don't think you can root, make changes, then unroot & keep the changes.

The 3rd CSC is stored in the EFS partition but it's not the ones in /efs/imei, I believe the third CSC is stored in the nv files & I think the 3rd CSC is the same as what shows up in download mode.
I still don't understand why the OP wants to change this, it won't really affect anything.

I'm sorry to be asking a stupid question.
What can I use this for? I have the Note 8 N950U and I want to root it. Will this help? I know how to use TWRP and ODIN and I've rooted numerous phones in the past. I'm just not understanding this "Combination file" term.

In the past engineering software had unlocked boot loader or permissive SE, first steps to get root. Unless you know exactly what you doing, I wouldn't touch it and wait for experts to find solution, namely root. Engineering software may not be 100% stable or may not let your phone fully charge etc
Devs workkng on root are already past this point...no need for this unless using to unbrick your device or other development purposes...this will also be used in switching carriers when we get it all figured out...Do not use if you do not know what you are doing!!!

I am waiting for your step by step as I have T mobile with permanent SIM unlocked.
I was able to flash to Unlocked version FW and removed the bloats but the carrier is still TMB in the baseband .
With this Factory Binary can I make my phone Fully unlocked Version to XAA/XAA/XAA? is it called debranding?
The reason I want have some more freq on unlocked version LTE band that T mobile version don't have. and use some CDMA on 3G
I am hoping there is no hardware limitation on T mobile phone.
Thank you

Thank you Bluefox for reply, I might have wrong assumption that if Fully Unlocked Firmware is also determined by the last 3 digits XAA ( support CDMA band)
I don't have tools to proof it work with CDMA, (unless by registering my device to sprint after flashed to XAA) , as T mobile only support GSM.
Job assignment force me to use some CDMA band while overseas and most of them in job site still use CDMA in 2G and 3G which is not covered by T mobile handset with original FW.
For better explanation of my question , Can I use the handset without Sim Card on Sprint as long as they register my Handset (MEIID/ESN) for Voice service only.? like old time CDMA phone handset?
Thank you again

[Flashable (TWRP/FlashFire)] S8(+) Stock Addons

Void's S8 Stock Additions
This is a flashable ZIP and should work with any S8/S8+ stock ROM. If you're on a Snapdragon device then use FlashFire but if you're on a Exynos device you can use TWRP.
Notes:
This is not a full ROM, it's supposed to be flashed OVER stock, do not wipe system.
Added system applications are all arm64 nodpi
After flashing you may want to go into Settings -> Apps -> More -> Default Apps and change them.
Tested versions of stock:
G955U1 AQH3
G955U Verizon AQI6 (my carrier is T-Mobile but Multi-CSC makes it work fine)
Features:
SuperSU: Classic system root
Busybox: Terminal utilities
Multi-OMC: Means it should make any ROM compatible with your carrier, carrier boot animations and sounds are removed
Replaced Samsung apps with Google Apps: Phone, Clock, Messages, Contacts
Removed Knox: Removes the constant notification about modifications
S-Health fixed: Samsung Health will work without complaining about modifications
Bixby Removed & Remapped: Bixby button activates device assistant
DRM Fix: Netflix won't hang but you still need to grab it from apkmirror
Radio: Samsung's stock radio
Dev Tools: Development tools, you might want to remove this but I prefer it
Pixel 2 Launcher & Wallpapers
Google Emoji: Replaces SEx emoji with stock Nougat ones
Note: Samsung Camera is kept for shooting photos 18.5:9, disable/delete it if you want.
Change log:
v1.1:
Samsung Keyboard and Gallery is now removed
Added Google Photos and my port of Google Camera 5.1. Slow motion doesn't crash but won't work (instantly stops recording).
Now that Samsung Gallery is gone, you won't be able to click on the most recent picture in Samsung Camera. You'll have to go into Google Photos manually. Sorry.

Yep, pain in the ass as it may be. I'd update the post to specify this still requires that. Having root listed as a feature makes it seem like this is a rooting method, even if it isn't. Maybe specify this requires the user to already be rooted, as you're listing root as a feature.

F variant is the international exynos model. All us devices are the same u or u1 variant, with some only having different model numbers to indicate they are sim locked.
Pretty sure given the g950u has a locked bootloader this isn't compatible since Samsung will boot saying custom binary and won't load. Unless I'm wrong and somebody with this model got this working. But I'm willing to bet it doesn't

I've added a few more in case anyone wants to add some extra stuff without having to search it again... I use Virgin so I just added these lines to the /system/omc/VMC/cscfeature.xml file. Yes they're all well known but i thought this would be a good place to help get them back along with the fine work by the op.

Been a while since I tinkered with phones like this so I'm comfortable with it but wondering:

And if so, where to start? Any guides here I can follow?

but use samfirm or firja to download it unless you like waiting for hours unnecessarily lol
frija
samfirm
get the pda and csc alphanumerics from that page i linked above and enter them in either of those tools (they do the exact same thing and do it equally as well as one another. choosing between the two is simply a ford/chevy thing)
from there youll need the patched Odin to flash carrier free firmware on a carrier dependent phone.

there ya go!

Downloading the file from Frija now, thanks!
Curious how would I have known to choose AIO over XAA or another unknown country code?

to my understanding, all the "unknown" country codes are unbranded and the only difference is the security updates. I just went with the latest one available when i flashed my U1 firmware

Question A025U to A025U1 flash problem

Hi,
First time posting and haven't seen this issue anywhere yet. Using patched ODIN 3.14.1 which has worked on every other unit that I flash from U to U1.
A025U will not flash to U1 with the correct bit version etc.
I know a while back that the A21's had the same issue until I upgraded ODIN.
My question is there a newer patched version of ODIN or a solution to why these units in particular will not flash.
To accomplish the goal of carrier free I decided to use Chimera to change the CSC to XAA which worked, however, it is a one by one process. I need to be able to handle multiple units at one time hence ODIN and just flash to U1.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
When you say "will not flash", you need to provide the exact error that you're encountering, in order to receive a correct diagnosis

No problem
Make sure to post the error from Odin as well as what shows up on the phone itself

What's the full Build/Baseband of the phone's current version?
And what's the full Build/Baseband of the version that you're trying to flash?
Make sure repartition is not checked in the Odin options, if it is uncheck it

I'm not finding A025USQU1AUD1 in any of the carrier's release notes. Which carrier is it originally from, and what do the current Service Provider CSC codes show as?

DSH is the CSC for Dish Networks, which owns Boost, so you've probably got Boost Mobile branded models. Hm, why does it not work then.
There is Android 11 firmware for the A025U1, maybe try flashing that: https://samfrew.com/model/SM-A025U1/region/XAA/

And does the same thing happen when you try flashing A025U1UEU1AUF2?
Also, your Odin looks strange - I've never seen that one before. Try using a different version of Odin 3.14.1 Patched. And also make sure Repartition is checked, and that you're flashing the regular CSC - not the HOME CSC
That Odin looks sketchy, use this one from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/patched-odin-3-13-1.3762572/

I need the 3.14.1 to be able to flash A21's. Found out I had to upgrade to resolve the issue in the past. Is there a better 3.14.1?

I have never had repartition checked off. I should check it off and try again? I always use CSC not HOME CSC I need it to be clean.

Just tried it and this is what came up. I tried once with repartition not checked off and then one with it checked off. Both fails.
