Nova and screen lock widget? - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

hey, I was trying to get nova and screen double to lock phone, but it doesn't work since pin will be required. and i would need root.
But huawei already has a widget screen lock that only works on huawei launcher... and when i try to make double tap trigger than widget, i get app is not installed or permission denied. can anyone know how to get it to work? or any app that makes fingerprint work with triggering screen lock?
Thanks

I have send a mail to Nova support but didn't have an answer yet. Too bad that this isn't working on Mate 10 Pro.

I have same problem, anybody have solution for this?

i've the same problem too

I'm not exactly sure what it is that you're trying to do but... I have the Mate 10 (non-pro) and I use Nova Prime and I also have double tap to lock set up and it works just fine. Now there are two choices when using it from Nova. One choice locks the screen immediately which requires a pin/password to unlock... nature of the beast. The second choice will turn off the screen immediately BUT you have to wait 5 seconds for it to lock the phone which does allow the fingerprint scanner to unlock the phone. So, not sure what you are trying to accomplish but I hope this helps! :fingers-crossed:

Where is the second option into Nova launcher, so the fingerprint can completely unlocked the phone?

I found it in advanced option at the end, it works thanks.

only problem with that method is if you touch the bottom of the screen where the keys are within 20 seconds the screen will wake up even if in your pocket

OK, I definitely don't like that option of 5 seconds because if I want to unlocked immediately it doesn't work, anyway, I have a question, you said that use nova prime and the double tap gesture with the action of screen lock, enables you to unlock with the fingerprint? Or a PIN is required?

Pin is required!

A pin or password is required if you select to Lock Immediately upon double tap. This is an Android thing that for some reason cannot be bypassed...I do not know the particulars. But the other option, where you need to wait a little over 5 seconds after the double tap...will allow the unlock with the fingerprint. I have been doing this for years on various phones and it works quite well. You do not have to wait 20 seconds...however, during the 5-6 second wait period you need to leave the phone alone... do not move it...or if you do move it then you need to be as careful as you can not to activate one of the motion sensors, or touch the screen. So then, let's say you have it set to the 5 second lock and you double tap to lock and you need to get up right away and move...then if you are careful not to touch the screen and not swing the phone like a madman, then it will still lock after 5 or 6 seconds and the fingerprint scanner will unlock it as expected. The best use for this method is when the phone is sitting on a desk and you double tap to lock and leave the phone just sitting there for those few seconds. It's not "exactly" what you want but it's better than any alternative at this point.

10 seconds, 10 interminable seconds!
This software is ridicule...

I have timed it on my Mate 10 (non-pro) and it takes 6 seconds to completely lock. You can move the phone around during these 6 seconds but should not touch the screen and it will lock. Not much else you can do as far as I know. Again, this an Android thing, not anything to do with Huawei, or Nova.

Not exactly true.
If you need unlock the phone during those 5-6 sec, just touch the screen in the position of Home button on navigation bar twice and the home screen is up again, since it wasn't fully locked yet.

I have a Huawei Nova 2i & was looking for the same. Go to Smart Assistance & activate Floating Dock.

Root is the only option if you want the double tap to sleep to work as you want. Sucks.

Is there a way to go straight to the launcher when you use fingerprint

I think it is pointless to press the home button (maybe a few times) for the finger print verification. THEN I have to swipe my finger??? really? Seems redundant. I've looked in all the settings. Is there really no way to turn the swipe off?

Do you mean the swipe to unlock you would use for the lockscreen if you didn't want any pin security?
I don't have my Edge yet to check, but in all the videos I saw it unlocks as soon as it recognises your finger. Have you set Fingerprint as the "screen lock type" in "lock screen and security"? I think it is possible to use the fingerprint for paypal etc while using a traditional screen slide-to-unlock.

No, I have fingerprint security on. So you press the home button, it verifies you. Then it takes you to the lock screen where now you have to swipe. It should just take me to the launcher. ready for what I want to do. Why should I have to then swipe the screen???

I agree, but what you are describing isn't what reviewers are showing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Kc4NgYS1rs
This is what made me think "screen lock type" may still be swipe, and it may just be authenticating your fingerprint for use other than the lock screen, such as paypal.
The only other thing I can think is something is enforcing the security, might be worth checking if any software is set as a device administrator. Exchange email can enforce security settings too.
Otherwise we will have to wait for someone with an edge to double check for you.

Can you check your trusted agents on other security options?
I'd like to verify if it goes straight to launcher when off and prompts for the additional swipe when on.

That's strange. I have smart lock enabled, but when I unlock with fingerprint it takes me straight to the home screen. Only when I'm connected to a trusted device do I have to swipe to unlock.
I changed my screen lock timeout..

Set to immediately.

Agreed. If you're phone isn't actually locked. It goes to the splash./lockscreen where you have to swipe to go to launcher. If the device is locked(fingerprint locked) then unlocking will go straight to launcher.

i have a iphone5S on freedompop, you just pay for the phone and get you free 200 talks, 200 texts, and 1GB data free every month without monthly fee.
on iphone5S screen, it showing "slide to unlock".
you can slide to unlock or just put your thumb on fingerprint scanner and it automatically unlock.
on samsung s6 edge, when it showing "swipe to unlock", you must swipe to unlock, it wont unlock if you put thumb on fingerprint scanner.

Search for secure lock settings, it's a setting that you can set a timeout period before requiring fingerprint scan..or make it always require fingerprint..

It really is annoying! I think Samsung's fingerprint scan does not integrate well with Android's SmartLock features.
The only solution for is to disable all SmartLock features to avoid this trouble.

[Q] How to remove remove slide to unlock screen with finger print unlock?

The method with slide to unlock is redundant and annoying. How to remove slide to unlock?
I'm in the same boat.. every time I try to turn on fingerprint unlock, I still have to slide to unlock.. I'm missing something here..
I don't get it. When you have finger print as your unlock method there is no slide to unlock. They are mutually exclusive, you can't have both.

I think you should upgrade to latest firmware, i never got slide to unlock screen when i use finger screen function!

Slide to unlock shows when you use the smartlock feature to keep your phone unlocked. It's there to prevent you from butt dialing someone.
Go to secure lock settng > secure lock time and set it to instant.
That way every time u lock your phone it will ask for finger print and will unlock right away

This man probably has it, your phone will not go to the lockscreen when fingerprint security is checked unless you enabled trusted devices and are near one. It should in that case simply go to the home screen as it does on most devices when similar schemes are enabled but it instead switches to swipe to unlock making the whole thing not only pointless but more work then never enabling trusted devices at all.
Its either a bug or stupidity, hopefully they get it changed.
Make sure you don't have any trusted bluetooth devices set up. If you do, you'll always have to swipe whether fingerprint authentication is enabled or not.
Aha!

Ha- that actually does work as a workaround, but sorry... What I want (and think OP is after) is to just turn off the swipe.
If the phone if unlocked, show me the home screen.
I want to take the risk of the buttdial!
Use case- pick up unlocked phone, press the side button, see home screen. Not swipe to get to home screen.
Don't know if that's a feature request or a rant or just a bit of both.

I tried to use No Lock Home module for Xposed instead of built in Smart Lock. But it doesn't eliminate Swipe to Unlock either.
I had my S6 set up to just require a pattern to unlock. Worked fine for the first 6 months I owned it. But since I allowed Samsung to upgrade my software, a swipe is needed before it will allow a pattern unlock. This happened to my wife's phone too. Thanks for the ****ing annoying "upgrade" Samsung.

Lock screen notifications, quick reply and screen time out

Hi,
I am still waiting for my Mate 10 to arrive, but since I am currently also am using Huawei phone (p10 lite to be exact) I had a question regarding lock screen notifications and screen time out..
Phone is setup to wake up screen when a notifications comes (screen locks and passwords set to NONE..so the screen is un-lockable with power button + swipe or received notification + swipe), but the problem is that phone locks up too fast for me to do a quick reply. I want to able to quick reply messages without opening the app.
Here's how it happens in action:
1. Notification/SMS is received and screen wakes up;
2.You expand the received notification and hit Reply underneath it;
3. Start typing your replying and baaaam, screen is timing out as you type it as long as you exceed ~15 seconds which is the approximate time during which screen is timing out automatically after waking up the screen no matter if you interact with it or start typing reply..
So annoying.. Basically its not the 15 second limit which is annoying, annoying and illogical seems the fact that screens goes into auto timeout althought you are interacting with screen (typing a reply)..
Does this happen also on Mate 10/EMUI 8.0 Android 8.0 the same way as it does on p10 lite EMUI 5.1, android 7.0?
Anyway to fix this? Extend time out time on lock screen?
This is not in any way related to general screen time out under Display/Sleep (sleep turns off when idle), so please don't waste space and suggest this as a solution .
Bump.
Can someone with mate 10 check this? Whether screen time outs in ~15seconds if you reply on a notification (sms, Whatsapp) without unlocking the phone and replying through quick reply option.
If I choose to quick reply from an SMS that has appeared on my lockscreen I have to unlock the phone before I can reply. If I now unlock my phone I am still presented with the quick reply SMS notification and if I reply the screen does not turn off while I am using it. Is that what you mean?
The notification wakes up the screen for around 11 seconds before the display turns off.
Update: Ah yes I read you mean with no lockscreen password. Yes in that case the phone still times out while you are replying and is under 15 seconds.
However why on earth would anyone not have a password on their lockscreen amazes me. What if you lost your phone or it was stolen? There is so much sensitive and personal information on our phones nowadays. Obviously it's none of my business what you do with your phone but with the fingerprint sensor being instantaneous to unlock the phone, having a password is a non issue now. ?

i like the unlock process to be as fast as possible and I have never lost a phone. Even if I would someone would gain access to my google stuff, but as soon I block the sim card + change the google password trespass is over , but thanks for checking it out for me.
I guess with mate 10 replying from lock screen will be different, meaning that I will have to use fingerprint either way.. if you receive a notification and the screen lights up you cant use quick reply unless you hit the fingerprint scanner right? But doesnt that (hitting fingerprint scanner) automatically bring you passed the lockscreen to “desktop”? Basically lockscreen notifications are only possible if you access the phone with power button right? But then again you wont be able to reply from lockscreen if you disable fingerprint as lock security alltogether..
I just love to quick reply from lockscreen, when I am busy with other stuff on my pc desk..notificiation just comes up and without actually picking up the phone i quick reply all my working day with phone lying on the desk knowimean!?!

That's the beauty of a front facing fingerprint scanner. You don't have to pick up the phone to unlock it.
So... the phone is on your desk. The screen wakes up because you get a message on your lockscreen. You swipe down on the message and tap reply. You immediately get a pop of your pin code screen. Instead of typing your pin, lightly tap your fingerprint sensor. Immediately the pin screen vanishes and the keyboard pops up with the text field automatically highlighted for you to start typing your message straight away. You don't even have to tap the text field to position the cursor, it's already there. When you are done either let the phone screen time out naturally or press the power button.
So you see the difference between having a password on your lockscreen (with fingerprint assigned) and not having a password, to be able to reply to lockscreen messages is wait for it........... ONE TAP. ? I mean that's the equivalent of adding an extra character to your message. You don't even have to press and hold the fingerprint scanner. It's so super fast you can barely touch it.
Make sure to assign your first fingers to fingerprints for easy unlocking on the desk. I have both my thumbs and both my first fingers assigned so I don't have to even think about using the correct hand depending on what I am doing.

And its not timing out as long as you type your message, right ? Because now phone is basically unlocked and it just stays in the area of expanded notifications since you have chosen to quick reply followed by fingerprint and so as soon as you are done and send the message it brings you to desktop. This is what I wanted to know. I tested this on p10 lite (pin+fingerprint) and its working, meaning screen no longer fades out during those default 15 seconds although you interact with the screen (type the reply with quick reply). Such security option (no fingerprint, no password/pin) as i use on p10 lite, because of fingerpirnt on the back, wont be used by me on mate 10, since mate 10 has fingerprint on the front (easy to reach), so I guess I wont have no longer the issue with screen timing out when I quick reply a message from notification panel without actually unlocking the phone.
So I have the Mate 10 Pro in front of me. For the life me I can't figure this one out.
On the lockscreen, I cannot expand my notification to access items like "quick reply" or whatever, based on app. Also can't pull down the notification shade.
What am I missing?
I have the same problem with quick reply on the lockscreen.
Tried to deactivate the fingerprint scanner, but still quick replying doesn't work.
Can somebody help?
I believe this is caused by EMUI.

It works for me. Fingerprint disabled with power button/home button and swipe afterwards as an option to unlock the phone phone and take you to home screen ->
1. Notification arrives screen wakes up (Settings -> Apps & Notifications->Notifications & status bar ->Notifications turn on screen (enabled);
2. I pull the quick reply option swiping on notification from top to bottom -> Reply and Mark as Read appears while the notification slides up until quick toggles which come down next to notification windows;
3. Hit quick reply and start typing..
But due to this screen time out thing I wrote in this topic I am now
using the phone with no security at all, meaning hitting home or power button on a switched off phone will take you directly to home screen (Settings->Developer Options ->Screen lock (disabled) and that allows me to quick reply on received messages from the notification/quick toggle panel with no time limit (screen wont time out unless you do not interact with the screen).

I find it really annoying, dunno why EMUI wants to override Android implementation.
The dropdown button below the WiFi icon is also missing...
I’m also having the same issue with all app with Mate 10 Pro(EU model 6/128 version]
There’s no any kind option to interact with notifications at lock screen.
No expand option ,no reply option with various app like gmail, outlook,WhatsApp,Viber.
It’s really frustrating and unacceptable such childish work with Oreo and Huawei implementation.

Really frustrated and the basic reason i've sold my Mate 10 Pro.
I can deal with many other bug but not this one unfortunately.
I'don't have any patience when and if eventually Huawei would fix that fundamental and very useful Android feature.

Screen off Knock Code! wow

Something interrestung i just found on my G6. My device unlock method is fingerprint + knock code as a backup unlock method. Turns out that Knock code works also when my phone's screen is off. All i need to do is just tap the code anywhere on the turned off screen the same way i do it on the knock code squares when my screen is on ( imagine those 4 tapping squares anywhere on turned off screen and just tap your sequence) and voila.
Don't know if any of you guys know about it, but give it a try if you want and please confirm if it works like that on your devices too

I always thought that in order to unlock your phone with knock code you first had to double tap the screen to wake it, then swipe it to get to knock code screen, put the sequence in and then you would see your home screen :/
I just checked it and it does work with the screen off ?. Nice feature though
I had this on my G2 soo...

This wasted time.. ?
I use fingerprint when I have the phone in hand, double tap + slide the screen for the house (auto unlock with position) or knock code outside my home when the phone is on the back
Yet the phone explains the operation during the first setting I believe !?
This work only with the Lg Launcher?

If the screen is on, double tap only works on LG launcher. Or doesn't matter what you use when the screen is off. Just tap in your knock code and it will unlock.
Drifting from the topic but actually double tap for screen off works partially for any other launcher as well, you just have to double tap the notification bar on the top. It is sometimes hard to hit especially with big finers as mine but it works.
I forgot to say that this actually works not only on the homescreen but on any screen or app you are.
double tap to sleep work flawlessly in Nova launcher with Tasker.. without any root btw

Issue: Launchers when active disables the Double Tap feature to turn off the screen.

I like to use Nova Launcher for several reasons. However with the new LG V30, when Nova Launcher is active the Double Tap to turn off the screen fails to work. Double Tap to turn it back on works fine, as does the Double Tap from the Lock Screen works for both screen on and off.
Is this a known issue with launchers, or is it an LG V30 issue?
I've not had a phone with the feature for Double Tap screen off/on before, so I have no idea if it's to be expected and find nothing posted about this either.
Thank you for reading,

it is issue of nova launchers
May have to have the paid version, but it's in Nova Settings, then Gestures and Inputs.
That does work! Thanks!

Well I'll be... that works even when Nova Launcher is active. Thank you!
Nova has its own homescreen shortcut for switching off the screen: Widgets -> Nova Action -> activate lockscreen. Of course Nova needs the permission for that.
OMG this is great, thanks for that!

A pretty substance free coment: What was your actual expectation?
Since that shortcut switched off the screen on every Android phone I had so far as long as Nova has the required administrator permissions set. So I see no need to avoid it.

There are two modes, one of which locks the phone, after which the fingerprint unlock doesn't work, you have to enter your code to unlock the phone. The other one doesn't lock the phone at all, it just turns off the screen, and the AOD doesn't show up untill the phone actually times out and locks on its own (it says after 5 seconds, but it's actually 30 seconds for me).
I would agree. The present implementation of Nova Launcher doesn't really follow function or form with the V30's own lockup function. It doesn't really lock the phone up. It just darkens the screen... not secure it.
What I really would like for Nova Launcher to do is to enable the user to use the whole screen to implement the knock code to lock the screen up. I think the reason we can use the notification area alone, is that this is part of the V30's own infrastructure layout, and not a Nova Launcher area.

Yes that always works with Nova.
And if you configure this option, it will also work anywhere on the screen.

Yes but as other posters have said, it doesn't actually lock the phone - it just turns the display black and only locks after the display time out (60seconds in my case). It doesn't turn off the touchscreen, it just blanks it.
If you are rooted nova can lock the screen just as lg launcher does.
