Mate 10 Pro BLA-L29 U.S.A usage - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

Gents and Dames:
Does anyone have experience with the Mate 10 Pro BLA-L29 alp working on U.S.A. Networks? I am on Cricket Wireless and would like to have a version without potential AT&T Bloatware, that also works with the Cricett/AT&T network. Please let me know if anyone has success or insight, thanks.

I purchased the standard Mate 10 ALP-AL00 with L29 Rom installed. It should be fairly similar to the Pro. I'll report my experience when it arrives.

I see, thanks for the heads up. I am honest, I don't know how that process works. Do they unlock the bootloader and flash the international rom on it?... Does it come rooted?

They just flash the rom. They can unlock the bootloader upon request but I don't think they root.

Just buy on ebay and make sure it is L29, it works on all usa GSM network

Amazon is partially supporting advertisement that promotes the availability of the L00 series... I believe this is the Chinese variant. What are the safe models to get that are fully English?

HI I am on this version and I am on the Tmobile Network. Everything works except obviously WIFI calling and volte. I have had excellent reception around NYC and NJ so far.

I have the BLA-L29 in Alabama and no issues with Cellular Radio at all. The only thing I am having an issue with so far is Bluetooth disconnects. I am going to reset my bluetooth headset itself first and hopefully that will resolve the issue. Else, I've tested on AT&T get around 70M down (LTE) and around 10M while on a phone call (3G speeds).

European warranty valid on Chinese M10 with European ROM?

So a seller is selling a Chinese Mate 10 but he will install an international ROM on it. The question is, is it the IMEI number that tells you the origination of the phone or the software version?
When I bought my Mate 9, it was the C636 Asia version and had no idea at the time it is not covered by Huawei UK support. So is it ok to buy a Chinese Mate 10 with an international ROM, or should I buy it somewhere in Europe where it is released like Spain or Mexico? I would like the phone to be covered by Huawei Support but not sure if they check the IMEI or Firmware version to determine if it is eligible for support/warranty.
Am in the UK.
Thank you!
It will not be covered.

Hmmm I am tempted to get one from China as it would be the 6gb, 128gb version for the same price as the 4gb, 64gb version in Europe. I works just lose the official support. Hmmm!

You will also notice some other minor issues as there is a reason the Chinese devices are separate from others. Things like GPS and the way cell signal are done are very different then in the rest of the world. I would do some research first as there are thousands of horror stories of people buying the China version of devices and things just not being dependable.

Where to get the 6GB/128Gb non-pro Now?

Hi all,
I'm keen to get the Mate 10 (non Pro) 6GB/128GB now - and I see some of you have it! (I have the Mate 9 Pro)
I'm in the UK - where's a good place to buy it? I see Wondamobile and TradingShenzhen and some of you give good reviews.
A few places like Banggood have it but not available for weeks.
Can this version be rebranded? FunkyHuawei seem to do it?
I have purchased from Wonda before with good service. Took a while to arrive though! Thinking of the Mate 10 at moment!
I've been in touch - FH say that the Chinese version of the 6GB/128GB can be rebranded to Asia. They're saying not to rebrand to Europe as this is a single sim ROM and they don't know how the second sim slot will behave.
So where can I buy it? Somewhere preferably that can avoid import customs and tax to the UK?

According to Wonda Mobile website, they have arrangements with shipping courier to pay all VAT and import fees. The price at checkout is FINAL. No need to risk being charged a VAT up to 20%
This explains why they're about £50 more than anyone else.
Giztop now appear to have stock and cheaper than Wonda(£699) or Shenzhen(£649) at £615

But Wonda will rebrand the phone for you and have excellent ratings.

I have ordered it from Wonda and asked them to rebrand it to L29C636. I know it's more but I hear it's very difficult to rebrand so I will let them do it.
I'm quite curious as to how well this particular model would work on AT&T in the US? I'd love to grab it but $900 is very pricey if I cannot take full advantage of its connectivity.
Guy's I would recommend Wonda Mobile, I have bought a total of 22 phones from them in 12 months and never had a single issue

This is getting exciting! I'm still a little confused about versions. Is the L29C636 the Asian version? Is this version devoid of all the Chinese features, but allows two LTE sims? Whereas the "European" version only allows one sim? Are there other differences. Anyways, please keep folks posted on how it works out. Thanks!

Yes - that's the sum of it.
You may find that you can't do OTA if you're outside Asia. I have a Mate 9 Pro - L29C636 and until very recently, I had to install updates via Funky Huawei. Huawei seem a little odd in their approach to updating - your device needs to be authorized to receive it, but if you were in the wrong region for your phone, it wouldn't update without a sim from that region.
Saying all that, my Mate 9 Pro received, for the very first time, an OTA update this week.

Ok. Hopefully the OTA situation changes with Mate 10. One more question. Do voice commands for default apps work in English using Asian version? For example, I have a Chinese version of the Mate 9. The default phone app allows voice commands to answer phone but you had to say "answer" in Chinese. It could not be made so that you could say "answer" in English. Thanks!

My understanding is that Asian version ties up to Singapore, where the default language in English. I've never encountered anything remotely Chinese on my 'Asian' version. I use Google Now, but not used voice commands per se!

Rebrand mate 10 pro USA to Europe keep volte?

I know the European p20 pro volte works on T-Mobile USA, do any European firmwares for the mate 10 pro work with T-Mobile USA volte?
I'm concerned about us region not getting updates.
Currently I'm on BLA-A09 c567
Same here. USA versions are lagging WAY behind other variants in terms of updates. I wonder if this has to do with the USA government recommending against Huawei devices. Is the Huawei saying F U back to the USA?
I would assume that is certainly the case. They have probably given up and do not feel any necessity to service a lost market.
I have given up any hope of getting any future huawei flagship devices here, hopefully will still be able to import them from europe if they they are not completely banned and that volte will work.

I've got the same issue and I spoke to Huawei US and they said we are getting the updates on July.... I initially believed it was an FU to the USA about VoLTE not working on the international brand of the phone while it works just fine on the P20 but now I believe that's pure sales strategy. Since there is no USA version of the P20 Pro, of course they can allow VoLTE to work out of the box in the USA. But since there is a us version of the Mate 10 Pro, they likely need to differentiate to sell more USA versions. That's my 2 cents. I'll be curious to see if these updates come in July as I was told.
Lastly - the most frustrating thing about Huawei is they say it's not them limiting the international version of the phone with VoLTE in the USA (BLA-L29) but it's the carrier. But we know this is complete bull**** because there is a carrier file on the International phone and US VoLTE is turned off. If you root your phone, you can turn it on and it works just fine. Not sure why they just can't be honest...

Confused on Mate 10 pro versions need help

I understand or have found 3 different versions
BLA-A09
BLA-L29
BLA-L09
From what I can see the A09 version is the USA version.
I don't care what version is what, I just care about updates as fast as possible (out of the 3 versions listed) VoLTE for T-mobile and maybe At&t in the future but not sure.
Which is the better version to have ? No I don't travel out of the country.
I was also told that the A09 version can't be rebranded? (Not sure what the reasons to save and is but saw it mentioned someone like it's a downfall of some sort.)
Pro's and con's I guess is what I need.
Thanks

BLA-A09 is its own device, you can not rebrand A09 to L09/L29 or L09/L29 to A09. If you have an A09 now you're stuck with that. L09 = single sim, L29 = dual sim.
It's the Cust that matter.
Generally C432 and C636 get updates faster. But AL00C00 (Chinese) get the fastest updates.

Yeah I just need to know about the VoLTE and which model with have those capabilities.
So the A09 model which is a US version I have read is left in the dark when it comes to updates cause the USA more less tried to block this phone from being sold so anyone who has a choice in models should get the L29 or L09 model for USA use ?
Is there any truth to the above?
Does the international version use the same charger as the US version? Is anyone here using the international version in the US? How are the updates like?

Yeah from my research I need to get the L29 VERSION instead of the A09 US version, to be used in the US.
Is that what you have read as well?
I'm so interested in this device but this post is just another reason I'm avoiding for now. Versions, updates, bluetooth screwed up, notifications not working, camera jacked, dimming display, etc... I read articles about it and see youtube reviews that swear this thing is pure gold but the amazon reviews and other threads seem to say otherwise. WHY ME?????

The A09 version works with everything GSM in the US and has a one year warranty. The L29 version doesn't have warranty (since it's an international model) and I read it doesn't support VoLTE on T-Mobile.
The reason I'm deciding between the two is because the L29 version is cheaper than the A09 version and has more frequent updates. The thing I'm worried about is the L29's compatibility with US (T-Mobile) carriers. I heard it works for almost everyone, but some people had carriers block them due to the international version. I was also concerned about the charger, but it looks like they'll provide an adapter. I'm waiting out until closer to Black Friday to get the phone for cheap, hopefully close to $400.
I didn't know the L29 model didn't support VoLte.

Oops, I should've been more clear. It doesn't support VoLTE on T-Mobile, but you can rebrand it to the US (A09) version and it'll work then. I don't know about AT&T because I only plan to use it on T-Mobile.
Ok so my understanding is the A09 version is last to get the updates but you mentioned can rebrand to L29 to A09 which I thought I read somewhere in here you couldn't but if you actually can go L29-A09- "rebrand" does that effect updates in the "branding aspects?

Huawei Mate 10 Pro BLA-A09 or the Huawei Mate 10 ALP-L29 International version

I've been reading various threads to determine if it's better to get the US or International version of the Mate 10 or 10 Pro
Is there a difference with unlocking the bootloader for the US/non-US versions?
Based on what I've read it seems to be more difficult to unlock/root etc the US version.
The Mate 10 specs claim that you can increase the storage via SD card in the Sim slot, but I checked a few Amazon verified purchases that claim there is no SD card via sim.
Lastly, I'm curious about ROM/Mod support, it seems pretty thin.
I'd like to install Magisk and possibly the ElementalX kernel. I typically install monthly security patches, but once I'm satisfied with performance, stability, and battery life I usually leave the phone as is.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
You are much better off buying a BLA-L29 and rebranding it as a BLA-A09 so it will work with VoLTE in the US on T-MOBILE and AT&T. If you try to do anything with a BLA-A09, you will likely end up bricking it. You can't force a dual SIM even though a dual SIM holder fits in the BLA-A09 and no memory card support.
Doing it the BLA-L29 way, you get the dual SIM and it actually works on the US rebranded.
That's my recommendation. I signed up for Funkyhuawei club to do everything.
Hope this is helpful.
I do prefer the P20 Pro over the Mate 10 Pro though.
Good luck.

OK, to make sure I understand this - BLA-A09 is US version, BLA-L29 is non- US. The BLA-A09 does NOT support dual SIM?
Rebranding ensures the phone works better on T-Moble (I use project Fi); what about APN settings - do they have to be tweaked to work with T-Mobile?
The ability to add storage is pretty important to me, so I was focusing on the Mate 10 over the Pro, if I'm correct, the pros sim slot does not support an SD card, but the Mate 10 does.
I assume rebranding is also important if I get the Mate 10 (not pro)
Have you tried to use the phone with Android auto? I've heard it doesnt work, and that the bluetooth connectivity is also dodgy.
Im reading Funkyhuawei on XDA now, thanks

APN should just come over naturally. But if you do not need a 2nd SIM, you actually are better off with the US version only because the cellular radio on the us version, the A09 is tweaked slightly better to pick up the US cellular better BUT software updates are like never on the US version or last in line. So it's kind of a toss up. I don't have connection issues with my P20 or my mate 10 and they are both Europe versions and I'm on T-MO. And P20 Pro does not support memory card either...

Also the L29 Version has more LTE bands so you need to compare those as well.
I was on the fence on these two models as well but pretty much decided the L29 was best cause if updates. I wish by now the A09 wasn't last in line as claimed (unless something has recently changed) I'm not really sure though but hearing about better cellular reception or stronger on the A09 makes me wonder if the L29 can be flashed with equal as to the A09 but again who knows.
I haven't purchased one yet as I need to sell 2 phones I have now first.

Just be aware that only the A09 will have a warranty in the US. None of the international models or variants have warranty coverage of any kind when sold in the US (and they can tell what the phone originally was by the imei and serial number). Amazon sells the A09 and the L29 models (either one you can get pretty quick).

If you rebranded an L29 to an A09 you "should" get the A09 updates, there is an issue with the IMEI though as updates verify that number so an L29 rebranded to an A09 "might not get any updates as it would still have L29 IMEI numbers (not an expert on that though). With the lack of any warranty on L29 devices in the US unless you absolutely have to have dual SIM capability I would just get the A09 model.
