There are several issues with the g5. Including screen retention. Gps issues. And some bottom module issues but a good phone.
Please use our wonderful search functions and you should be able to find most of them....

Wifi Issues
Yeah, I bought mine in October and have had problems with Wifi dropping out several times per hour and none of the suggestions listed around the web have fixed it. It turns out this is a known issue with the phone. Not turning off Wifi Scanning under Location, not disabling mobile network switching, not whiping cache partition. I haven't done a FDR yet. Also, if you get the Sprint version and upgrade from 6.0 to 7.0 it will lock the previously unlocked handset to Sprint only. I hope this was helpful. Good luck:good:

Help about info on LG V10

Hello friends. I want to buy this phone, but as I can read from all around the internet, it seems to have the same bootloop issue like the G4.
Now, my question is - I see that the variant I want to buy is LG-H960a and the phone manufacturing date is Feb 19, 2016, so is there any way to tell that the phone is going to suffer from a bootloop issue?
Any help is appreciated , thank you!
Hi,
I own the H960A (European version) for a couple of months now (June 2016) and have never experienced any bootloops, random reboots or whatsoever. My H960A runs with the latest Marshmallow (V20b), is rooted, TWRP and Xposed are installed. No issues at all. Sure, the SoC could be a better one but the phone makes a lot of fun. I probably will not change it for the next two years as with the great camera it does all I need perfectly or at least very good.

I am using Tmobile H901 with manufacturing date of Oct. 2015. So far working great with 0 issue, it is a great device. There are only few cases of bootloop on internet, most of them could be fake as they came when V20 was announced, just to create bad image by competitors.

Too many issues?

I just bought this phone through an Amazon Warehouse Deal, but I am quite worried now. There are so many issues being reported and I don't want to have a nightmare. Is this just an old batch? Is there a new batch that fixed these problems? Are these problems happening to new LG g5s as well?

I've had my H850 since May last year (so also an old batch) and have absolutely no issues with it. I think it just seems like everybody has problems because generally people that don't have any won't post saying "I have no issues!"
It's a great phone - just check it out right when you get it and test everything you can before unlocking it. That way if you do happen to have one of the troubled devices you can still return it and get it replaced

no one takes the time of day to post that they have no issues like previous poster said but will jump all over "i got issues help me"
i got a used g5 from release day and everything seems to be wonderful on it other than some scratches on the camers which is previous owner not g5s fault.
3 days now no root and i love it to death completly satisfied
i´m sorry to tell you that i´m one of the owners of this phone who can report issues. My GPS, after a few week, started to fail. I´ve read that it's a common problem.

I've had my h830 for well over a year, the only problem I had was a bit of image retention. The phone itself works just fine
You're quite worried now.... AFTER buying it?
Should have done your homework first.
Hi all,
im thinking about an upgrade to my g4 and now i try to do my homework as our fellow colleague above said. is it worth it? is there a better alternative in the lg g5 price range? camera, battery wise and so on? ill try to look at the known issues and get an idea but also would like some opinions from owners. Thanks all!

Considering the camera, I believe there is no better alternative at this price range. If the camera is not a concern for you, I suggest a Moto G5 for much better battery.
As the owner of two G5s, my first one the screen tore in half (white snow issue like G4) and never fixed itself, my second the screen started ghosting so bad from the previous frame that when going from a white to black application, you could see the entire previous frames. Coworker of mine also had his G5 break on him and he upgraded to the G6. Seems like there are a lot of quality control issues.
I've had an H820 since the beginning of March this year. I decided to buy it despite all the complaints as I am not a heavy user: no gaming, no movie streaming, no FB live broadcasts, etc. Additionally, I do not plan to swap out the battery with any regularity nor use the camera module. It appears to me that many of the problems associated with this phone (and many othersfor that matter) track back to users who are on their phone all the time, i.e. encountering high battery discharge rates. The modular battery may have a design problem, but if it is not removed--or very carefully so--its moot. So far I have not had a problem with the GPS; I've had better, but it's certainly usable. The screen is very difficult to read in the bright sun, but then, which ones aren't? Battery life is acceptable; again, if you are a gamer maybe not.
I seem to recall reading somewhere that LG made some manufacturing changes to address some of these problems in later production runs, but I cannot prove or disprove that.
It has quite a bit of bloatware and is not rootable with no prospect of being so in the near future. I have disabled almost all of the packaged apps, but the last time I looked whatever was left and or still using memory was occupying a fair amount of system memory. I don't have a great number of apps.
My prior phone was an LG G2. It's now in my wife's hands and still working reliably; she FB's a bit, but no movies or games. The GPS could be better, but that's not a deal breaker. It is no secret that the battery life is better than the G5.

As far as I know, ghost touch is almost always a digitizer hardware problem, but I stand to be corrected on that. Have you tried pulling the battery and leaving the phone off for a while (15+ minutes)?

I don't think you have that many options. Here are the things I would try, in order:
- Open the phone and disconnect the screen from the motherboard, then reconnect it
- Factory reset (back up the phone with LG Backup, or TWRP if you have a model that supports it)
- Replace the screen
I have a feeling that a factory reset isn't going to do much of anything, but it's worth trying before you spend money on a new screen.
Re: ghost touch
I had mine doing the same thing, I'm on a h820 however the screens weren't different amongst the variants as far as I know. Was able to get an oem replacement on Amazon for like 68$. The install wasn't all too difficult and did alleviate the ghost touch. Mine was bad bad before changing out the screen. Like it would press and hold the home button or the back button and make the phone unusable. No problems with the new screen so far.
Here's a link to the one I bought. It was two numbers off from the original one on the underside of the screen where the LG info is stamped.
Well it won't let me post the link.. Not enough posts. But it was from a US seller and said oem in the listing title.

No. Does not appear so.
Only if u were already rooted/unlocked/ with TWRP and flashed the Update.zip stock rom already posted. Then u can flash Magisk and root works fine.
Upgrading via OTA or LG Official restore tool (Bridge) re-locks down everything as its reflashing it to pure stock.
I would assume that current means/exploits have not worked on this new version.
The V10 is largely abandoned...(cause V20 been out a while now and soon to the come the V30.
Far as I can tell, only 1 maybe 2 people working on this phone in their spare time....soo....Don't hold your breath.
If a rooted device is very important to you, other than waiting, one could buy a used V10 (or V20) that hasn't been updated off Swappa for pretty cheap. Or, sometimes folks sell already modded/rooted devices. (thats how i got both my V10's).

That's disappointing. I love this phone but don't feel the need to upgrade to v20. Maybe the v30 when it comes out. Thanks for taking the time to respond to me. I've never seen a phone abandoned so quickly ?? now I'm thinking I should go back to Samsung maybe note 8

Advise on buying new LG V30

So I have left LG for some few years now but I want to return. Please I want to buy an LG phone and V30 is the best option for me with no notch. Please can someone give me advice on this? I remember LG phones are usually faulty when they first come out so is there a model number I should avoid? Thanks a lot .

I think h930, 930ds etc are the best one because all the custom development works for them.
See if you can buy v35. It's the same as v30 but with upgraded Snapdragon 845

Where do you live? For instance in you live in North America, you do not want H930 or H930DS as they don't have the major carrier bands.
For most people in Europe, H930/H930G.
Most everyone else, US998 V30+ or LS998 V30+ (which can easily be converted into US998 V30+). V30+ has 128GB internal memory.
Thanks for the replies. I was actually asking about defects that may have plague some v30 units during it's initial release. Like for example I heard some early models screens have blue when you look at it from the side etc. I will definitely see if it has network issues before paying. Thanks

The blue off screen viewing never bothered me, since I don't care that other people can't read my texts/emails.
I'm the one looking straight at my phone, so there's no blue. Why would YOU look at your phone from the side?
This was discussed in depth by early adopters and isn't an issue. See, problem is reviewers HAVE to find something wrong. They have to find pros and cons, because (except for XDA editors and their obsession with OnePlus) no phone can be perfect. And if early reviewers make it seem like something "CATASTROPHIC!" for their review headline, they will get more web views.
This phone was the best phone of 2017.

The off axis blue tint was the biggest bull**** I've heard reviewers say, probably ever. I've put this phone side by side with the Galaxy S9+, and the amount of blue tint is almost identical, as well as the overall quality of the display. Yet the Galaxy was praised for the display, while the V30's display was the most negative point they could bring up about the phone. The only REAL problem LG V30 had was the uneven display brightness that plagued the early models, and even that was only noticeable on very low brightness in the dark.

Hi so i just got my new LG V30 6 days ago and every thing was going great till 2 days ago I decided to update to pie via OTA. After the update the wifi signal is really poor. I now get frequent disconnect when using wifi. I have to sit next to my router before I get steady connection. Please what could be the problem?

Which V30 variant did you get? I assume one of the H930 since only they and the Korean variants have Pie?
Possibly factory reset can fix the issue, but this is one reason I don't like taking partial image OTA vs flashing full image KDZ.
Possible solutions:
* Factory Reset
* Reinstall Pie via LGUP Refurbish mode
* Downgrade back to most recent Oreo, until you're ready to try Pie again. See post #2 of the EU H930 KDZ thread. This is assuming you have H930?

The Dev Patched LGUP I would use is attached to post #2 of this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79964731&postcount=2
Those instructions are for downgrading H930, so ignore that. It's the version of LGUP attached to that post which I'm talking about. Install it, choose your Korean variant Pie KDZ you wish to flash and use "Refurbish" mode.

I was just about to start then remember I do not know which mode to set my phone on. should I put it in download mode or file transfer mode?
Update. I have flash the pie kdz with LGUP process set to refurbish and phone in download mode then factory reset. Still very very crappy wifi connection. My old galaxy s4, note 4, s7 and PC all connects easily and stays connected until I disconnect them. But my V30 will take time to connect and disconnect in like 10 seconds later. I will have to keep connecting about 20 times in a roll before it will finally connect well. Even then, a little distance from my router will disconnect it and then I will have to start trying to connect again. I am presently downloading Oreo. Will see if Oreo will solve my problem, as I am not exactly sure if the problem only started after OTA pie update.
All good in Oreo. I really love Pie tho
