LG G6 Wide Angle camera with 2 versions and the one has poor image quality! - LG G6 Guides, News, & Discussion

I saw this post on reddit, thought the guys is bluffing! But god damn!He is not bluffing! You can check your wide angle camera by taking picture and checking EXIF data after. The sharper version has 2.01 mm, the blurry one has 2.09 mm Focal length.Mine is 2.09,phone is H870 Europe version. That's why my wide angle pictures are blurry ..

I've 2,0. EU version.

2,01
H870

2.01 here and good photos

I have 2.01mm and European H870.

2.09 Mine doesn't look blurry though?

H872PR, 2.01 mm
Not a big photo junkie but I do enjoy the occasional wide angle shot of scenery.

2.09 but no blur. In fact looks better than normal camera most time.

Interesting, I am more inclined to believe that poor quality is from some other defect (dust or something else on the lens or inside of the glass, or who knows what), but it could be something that happens more often with one choice of assembly.
If your phone is taking demonstrably worse pictures with the wide angle lens, it seems worth getting that fixed!

2.01 here in the Canadian model.

2.01 with lgm-g600L Korean version, good photo!

same kinda fish eye distortions ?

2,01 here
H870
Inviato dal mio LG-H870 utilizzando Tapatalk

2.09 here - UK H870.
Ok so - what is the impact on this? I've had W/A photos taken that are not blurry at all, and some have been - it's all depended on the environment and how im holding the device - this is the same for any phone or camera going...
Is this something that can be improved on by software or are we totally limited to worse hardware?

Finally! That f...cking LG. Check this wide angle photo I took yesterday in Belfast. I know that it was evening and google photos are shrinking it a bit but for me the quality is ****ty
https://photos.app.goo.gl/G4vUDhAttPzyCCiL2
Look at all those flares and generally the blurry quality.
Not only they don't provide security updates for "flagship" but they also provided some of us with crappy hardware. Definitely selling mine soon

Oneplus 5t because:
1) it's cheaper
2) it's back is not from glass (my G6 is already scratched)
3) software updates are released really fast. It's bad that they won't have "project treble" but still they release quickly. For example "blueborne" has been fixed in October Google security patches? LG6 still doesn't have that and is vulnerable to attacks so I can't use my BT headphones.
4) software is fast - pure android with some nice tweaks. People say LG6 is fast. Really? Sometimes it takes 5-6 seconds for my camera app to start.
5) it's OLED
6) it's cheaper !!!
7) it has notifications slider
8) headphone jack is on the bottom of the phone !!! Really LG, headphone jack at the top of the phone is a bad decision.
Previously I had LG G3 which in the end has broken because of the hardware issue where due to extensive heat and lack of proper heat distribution in the phone, solder has weakened and display went off. I had to apply the "paper fix" to make the phone working again but who can tell me how long will it work? And fcking LG doesn't admit that is a design problem. The same thing happens with Nexus 5x manufactured by them. My friend's nexus went into bootloop just like that.
Nope, never again I will buy LG phone. Sorry LG. And whenever someone would like to buy one I will tell them not to.

That's a nice choice.OP5T is better in almost everything, but don't expect some better photos from main camera.G6 has some great software with very rich manual control that you can't get in OP5T.Everything else is better,i'm also thinking about oneplus 5t,i still can't decide what to do..

But with OP5T I know what I'm paying for. Lower price -> lower photo quality. I'm ok with that.
With G6 I was told it will be "amazing" but in real life it's less than average.
Definitely not a "flagship" quality

Quality of wide angle 2.09 is fine for me and I'm satisfied. (H870S - Europe dual sim version)

PA rates G2 as best Android Camera SmartPhone

Hey Guys,
G2 has another feather in the cap, G2 tops the charts as best Android Camera Smartphone in Phone Arena Comparison. It matches iPhone 5S, though 1020 was omitted. So it pretty much confirms G2 is the second best camera phone in the market right now

Not only that! The LG G2 is also the highest rated smartphone in PA's (for those who might not know, PA is a popular mobile news & reviews site: PhoneArena.com) history with a score of 9.4 out of 10. The LG G2 beats the Samsung Galaxy S4 which was the previous highest rated smartphone. The only negative aspect of this phone (according to PA) is the lack of a microSD port. But if you get the 32 GB version, you're set. Many of the top smartphones don't offer external memory via microSD; HTC One, Apple iPhone, etc.

Can't wait for my 32 GB version to arrive next week
Sorry, but even as I own an LG G2, I cannot agree with PhoneArena. The LG G2 nighttime video is awful (shutter speed too low, heavy noise reduction, no details at all), and in daytime video there is constant autofocus hunting, as you can see (although the image is very detailed).
iPhone 5s is clearly the winner, it has no obvious flaws. And the G2 does not even come in second.
LG G2 camera produces outstanding results in daylight photos, this is true. But there are significant bugs in the video processing that need to be corrected via a software update ASAP. Even night time still photos suffer from too much noise reduction.
PS: I read that LG is PhoneArena's biggest sponsor.

Yeah i have to agree i really like the g2 but the camera has serious problems with focusing and shutter speed issues that badly affect picture clarity. I really hope that the camera issues are due to poorly optimized software and can be fixed in an update.
I just watched a few iphone 5s vids. Showing camera and video. The autofocus while recording on the iPhone is terable. So much blur when changing what your looking at. The photos are nice. It low light are about as in impressive as ever other phone. I'm well aware that my phone is a phone first, camera second. but, with a few tweaks here and there. this phone takes amazing photos and great video. Yeah it has its shortcomings so does every single phone on the market. Adjusting shutter speed and the iOS are the key features to great photos

Totally agree G2 camera blows the other phones camera out of the water. Current only the new iphone and the new lumia phones can compete with the G2 regarding camera
I also think people might need to try to tap the screen on different portions of what they are taking a picture of. I learned quickly that the camera on this phone adjusts to room lighting AND the darkness/brightness of what you're taking a picture of.
So, if I'm in a bright room and I set the focus to something dark, THEN I get the washed out effect. But, if I'm in a bright room and I put the focus on something just as bright, then the camera adjusts to near perfection.
AND put it in reverse if I'm in a dark room. Set it to focus on something bright. (basically just tap the viewer on a bright or dark item and see how the camera will change automagically (I meant that word automagically lol)
That has helped me get much better pictures easily.

I am curious to see that article you read. Could you provide a link?
I've been a PA avid reader (i go through every single article or at least have a peek at the main ideas if i'm in a hurry) since a few years. The one thing that really put me off was permanent display of Samsung Galaxy flagship phones at the top of the page, right above the Featured Stories section. The Samsung Galaxy S3 got a permanent spot there for the whole year and eventually S4 joined its older sibling for a very lengthy stay in that bar, which qualifies as nothing short of advertisement for Samsung. It really got me riled up every time i saw the main page and when i pointed that out on YouTube to one of their reviews about the Galaxy S4 besting every other smartphone, my comment got topped up to over a hundred likes. People were finally noticing and PA eventually made some slight changes, but still today, you can pretty much guarantee that you'll see the top Samsung products displayed as a "versus another product" or "review" at the top of the page. As for LG, i never noticed any of its products being advertised on PA. Actually, the G2 just released and despite a great rating, it has only managed to secure a spot at the far right of the page, ready to drop out of the headlines at the next mobile device release.

They rated G2 a 9.4 mate, which is pretty high. That said i am not sure how LG is a sponsor as some rightly pointed, all i see is Apple and Samsung on the main page, be it featured stories or main page.
As a matter of fact it seems like a story of some butt hurt fan of maybe HTC one, whose strongest selling point Camera is the worst.
Anyone noticed the audio quality of the videos taken with all the phones and the camera? The quality of the Lg audio is eons ahead of them all including the supposedly great audio quality of ONE.The audio chip and the mics of G2 are amazing.

Are we supposed to put the phone near a speaker in full blast,in our everyday use? That kind of comparissons are idiotic at best...When i record a video with crystal clear audio with G2 and the I5s will record a muted low sound, will you be proud that it can do better when you put it near a speaker in full blast? lol Also the G2 is extremely sensitive and pic up noises that other phones cant..thats good and bad, depends on the situation.

Some people enjoy going to concerts and all you know... Sometimes they want to record a video of (a piece of) it. And pretty often the sound goes to crap in those situations, so wouldn't call this kind of stuff "idiotic at best". It all depends on what you use it for.

Putting the phone near a speaker it doesnt emulate a concert at all.The G2 pic up noises that i5s cant this is why its more fuzzy at times. If the sound is crap G2 will pic up a crappy sound, cause it records what is there...Sure it can be good and bad,but its prefferable at least for me,when at 90% of the situations i will use it,the sound will be great, instead of having a sub par sound, that will only be usefull at the 10% of my use (concerts and all)
PA's reviews are continuely garbage. Their ranking system has no repeatability, their test methodology always has flaws. Might as well look at Gizmodo's or Engadget's 'seat of the pants' reviews.

I disagree, except for proper updating, Pixel takes a lot of disadvantage compare to the lg g5, specs and even camera quality, I dont really know about software though, but I was always a fan of HTC since they had the most aesthetic UIs
I love my G5 so much, but from the reviews I've seen, I think the Pixel is a better choice if you don't care about the pricing.
Well I just put my pixel xl for sale im going
Back to the g5. Why ? Because Bluetooth audio quality is important to me APTXHD is not present in the pizel. That said the screen was awesome but not as bright as the g5. Speed was the same but the pixel was 200 ms faster at loading apps fresh. The paint on the pixel is so sensitive that I could scratch it off with my nails if i was trying to. Not worth the money the new one plus is better imo. Another thing is that the lg g5 display has a higher refresh rate objects that move appear clearer in motion compared to the pixel. I really loved it but a lot of apps are not compatible with 7.1. With it rooted battery issues formed and constant heating but I know its the roots fault. That said I only paid $300 for my g5 compared to the pixel, the g5 is a no brainer. And honestly the only thing I liked about the pixel was the launcher but I just flashed a zip and have it on the g5 now. The pixel has some good features though like font size and dpi change naturally. Also it was annoying to hold in one hand and i would always touch the screen from the side of my palm while typing. Imo a $700 piece of software is not worth it because its all your getting compared to the competition.

I paid almost $700 to have my H850 imported from the UK... I love this phone; LG may have some questionable bootloader policies but this phone kills it in terms of optimization compared to most of the competition. My girlfriend has a vzw branded Note 7 and besides the stylus and the amazing screen, that phone was awful! UI was slower and incredibly bloated confusing and ugly, memory management was absolutely horrible, and despite having a much larger battery(albeit explosive) my phone always got much better battery life.
She now has a Pixel XL 128gb otw to replace her Note 7 and I'm excited to compare our phones.
Your argument about frame rate is the most compelling argument I've heard yet about why the Pixel may not be worthy of the flagship crown; I don't doubt you, but do you have numbers to backup that claim? And aren't AMOLED supposed to be brighter, and isn't Pixel rated at higher lumens than our G5(too intoxicated to remember if I'm using the correct jargon but hopefully you know what I mean)? And why would rooting change much in regards to heat and battery life if one is still using the stock kernel and ROM? Once again not challenging your claim, just curious about the details.
To reiterate I love my G5, the wide angle camera, the stock UI, the firmware optimization... I've had zero issues with this phone. But if money was of no consequence I would have a hard time choosing between the two. The Pixel may be ascetically unappealing(perhaps even repulsive) but it's made by the people who designed the OS in the first place, the camera is truly incredible, and one would never have to worry about speedy updates or lack of development... But I do love my double tap to wake! That feature should be an industry standard... Just out of curiosity, can you use DTW on your ported Pixel launcher with the G5?
A co-worker has a OnePlus 3T Otw as well cant wait to finally see a OnePlus in person and compare... For $440 that phone has Killer specs and a promising reputation... Can't stand capacitive buttons tho so I would probably never own one
G5 better except for one small big issue, GPS. Too many reports of the GPS issue. Other than that, G5 wins for me.

My GPS is OK too, I'm just saying there are many users who encountered the GPS issue. Just trying to be objective. I have my G5 since May and I enjoy it a lot. Never failed me and the camera is just great. I carry a spare battery in my bad all the time so my charger never leaves home. Pixel is just seriously overpriced (common thing with HTC). I means, look at Oneplus 3 (3T).. so much cheaper , looks better, clean OS..why pay more? I mainly got the G5 for the camera. Love the wide angle too.
Just to prevent the overpriced comments, I'm getting the pixel for the same price as the G5.
About the refresh rate, I actually have used the G5, and while scrolling some text turns blurry (was that model faulty?). Also shouldn't (in theory) the pixel have a higher refresh rate due to an amoled screen and daydream support?

Technically the pixel LCD is brighter but Google does not let it pass a certain point in brightness however if you flash a custom kernel you can enable high brightness mode . root is buggy 7.1 is really annoying to deal with the recovery is now knitted into the kernel you should read chainfires post about it. You can't just slap on a kernel or a new recovery version on top of what you already have you have to return to stock every time flash twrp flash kernel then supersu. Battery life was alright for a few days but then the phone started to over heat for no reason. Just laying there with no change on how I use it the only explanation I could think of was root after I went back to stock it went away. That's just my experience though.
What kind of question is this? Pixel costs 2x of what G5 costs.

All that aside, Pixel. Had the G5 since April, one software update (security patch) and all the annoying bugs/features still there.
Inside I have to adjust brightness every time I turn screen on due to the crap "auto brightness". That alone has made we ponder if I really like the wide angle lens enough to suffer the constant annoyance of screen being dim. Contacted LG and they gave some barmy excuse that I need to contact the local software team to raise this issue? It's an international phone and ROM!

Never had the issue. Or at least I didn't notice it. Am always happy with the brightness.
Though the camera module is the same as the lg g4 which is kind of disappointing. Overall a great camera but I still would have wanted a newer sensor to maybe get the same hdr speed as the pixel. Couldn't live without the optical stabilization anymore though... Then again I don't know how the electronic one is on the pixel.
For landscapes the wide angle lens is amazing.
I find the battery highly dependent on your network coverage. I get between 20 and 80 hours with 5 hours of screen on time. Depends on how much you are in locations with wifi and so on
Speed is simply amazing but then again I come from a rather outdated note 2 so I don't know how it improved over last year's flagships.
LG G5 anyday , G5 is close to Pixel in terms of everything , defeats Pixel in features. The camera is closest and hard to compare.

Sounds about right. There are some things I wish the G6 camera could do better, but then it excels in certain areas. Just comes down to what you're looking for... for versatility it does fine. I just wish it could hone in more details in micro shots but it's by no means "bad"

Yeah mine is too blue in the shade or cloudy days and too red on sunny days. some pictures with trees and scenery was so red it's not even funny. And another problem is i can't enjoy making panoramas anymore. This phone and the original one before it will not produce one perfect panorama outside without making double or triple images of trees and poles etc. does it every time and even in the same parts of the photos if i retake the shot 10 times. i retook the shot of my back yard like 20 times altogether on different days and it does it exactly in the same spots. So i'm disappointed. when i had my GS7 i could have a piece of mind with photos on the auto setting or a panorama. now i am not confident. i hope a software update comes soon. 3rd party camera software sucks and they don't have a option to use the wide angle lens and i can't find panoramic software that works good in hi def. and most software is loaded with ads.

[DISCUSSION] I bought an LG G6 (H870DS) in India; returned it the very same day! :(

I have had an LG G4 since Sept, 2015 and have been using it as my daily driver ever since. I was probably among the first ones in India to buy the LG G6. For clarification, the LG G6 (H870DS) sold in India has 64GB memory and comes with a 32-bit HiFi DAC. I loved the G6 right from its launch at MWC, so much so that I had made up my mind to get it as soon as it lands in India. The fact that it was available with an INR 10,000 cashback on the first day was the icing on the cake. I bought the Ice Platinum colour and received the device on 29th (requested later delivery).
I unboxed the phone around 3pm and used it for 2 hours straight. I had taken a half-day from work, I spent two hours with this device, I loved the aesthetics and this colour. LG has made a near perfect smartphone but it fell short in the one place where I had least expected it to. After about 3 hours of using this phone, I put up the return request with a very heavy heart. This is by far the best Android device I have ever used till date. Why did I return it, the burning question now.
The LG G6 has the worst front camera I have used on a smartphone since 2012. Period. It was worse than my old LG G2, Galaxy S4 and even the mid-ranger Moto G4 Plus. Coming from an LG G4, this was a major downgrade for me. I played around with the settings, found that the front was using a 3.7MP mode to scale to 18:9 but even moving to the 5MP mode didn't help. The camera was blotchy, unfocussed at most times, lacked any kind of sharpness and had very poor color reproduction.
I headed to the nearest LG service centre and also visited a Croma outlet that had a demo unit. After being certain that I had not received a lemon, I had to go for the return. For those wondering, the LG G4 is miles ahead of the front camera game with its 8MP autofocus sensor. The LG G6 is a fantastic device and probably is the best that LG could produce.
I do not understand how could LG engineers, marketing teams, quality control department or even their top ranking officials overlooked this. I am not sure how others have not mentioned this in their reviews. I searched around and found a couple of camera comparison videos that also show how poor the G6's front camera is when compared to other flagships. The OnePlus 3T has a much sharper sensor than the G6 and I always hated the OP3T front camera for the lack of details it captures!

Actually is a known thing of this device, and also the rear cameras are, on the hardware side, the worse piece of **** that LG could mount on a top device, but, well, at least with the reare the software has done miracles. Don't know about international reviewers, or the ones that review in your country, but in mine (italy) it was always said that the front camera is really bad.
But in my case i don't use the front camera, never used in any phone i've ever had (G2, G5 and now G6), i'm not a selfie person xD

Even if I were not a selfie person. Even if I never video called anyone. Even if I never switched on the front camera of the device, I wouldn't buy the G6. I would absolutely not be at peace knowing the fact that a flagship device with this price tag has anything that is inferior to even its own predecessors. The problem with the tech world today (I am looking at iPhone users here) is that they keep supporting these brands by buying whatever *** they put in their phones and never complain. If we do not complain, they wouldn't listen and the evolution of technology will suffer a set back!
Yes the results from the rear cameras are really good, but most reviews mention the poor quality of the front camera, don't know what LG was thinking?

Man, this is a phone, just buy whatever you want, without criticizing the others and you are good to go
Although I agree the G4S FFC was probably the best self camera I have used on a phone. I also greatly appreciate that this phone was $100 cheaper than other flag ships. The FFC is more than satisfactory for my needs

Sorry to hear that man. I know how frustrating it can get when something as simple as a front camera doesn't function the way it was supposed to, considering it's LG's best phone ever.
I was an S7E user till last week and would have switched to the S8 if I didn't have to deal with the terrible tempered glass issue with the edge displays. I have almost spent about 5 to 6 thousand only on the tempered glass and even when I used to put a new tempered glass on the S7E, the dust would start going in. Even with the S8, nobody has been able to make a proper tempered glass yet. And it almost looks like there will never be one. And the worst part was even with the tempered glass and a back case on, my S7E's display broke when it fell down from a 2 feet height. Though it still works fine and is usable, the tempered glass thing was too much to deal with. So i finally gave up on the edge displays.
Wanted to upgrade to some other phone, I have never been a fan of iPhones, so that was not an option for me. And was eagerly waiting for the G6 to arrive in India. And when I finally got my hands on it, I was very disappointed, to say the least. The front camera like you said was very bad, the display was not bright enough ( Compared to the iPhone 7 and Mi 5, both has IPS displays) and on top of it all, the disastrous pricing by LG. So I gave up on it and continued my struggle with the S7E.
But after a month to my surprise, LG had dropped the price by 10,000, the best price you can get it for now is 39,300 on Amazon. So looked up on OLX for a good deal and found some LG employee who had bought the G6 for 23,000 and managed to get it from him for 28,000. It was just one week old. It's a black one and the black color looks much much better than the silver one I had seen the first time. So I am kind of happy with it now. I think it's a pretty sweet deal for that price. The rear wide angle camera is crazy, I really love it and the battery is pretty decent too. And I don't know if they have released some software update or something, but the front camera looks much better compared to my first experience with it.
But yeah overall it's quite disappointing that LG releasing their flagship in 2017 could not put up few simple things in place. According to me, they should have made the display better ( The color reproduction and the brightness), the front camera certainly should have been much much better and the rear too in low light conditions. But if you can get a similar deal like I got, then probably its worth it. I like the device overall now, at least i don't have to deal with the tempered glass s*** anymore.
You all keep writing "flagship" in here about the G6. That is wrong. The V-series is their flagships not the G-series. Just a note.

OnePlus 5 getting returned. Picked up a new G6 for < $400 until the V30 comes out. Or the pixel 2. We shall see.

That is not entirely accurate! The V-series is their Top of the line model/device, but is not released world wide, it's only released in some select markets... For instance I have never seen an V-series in person ever, and I've tried looking for the V-10 and V-20 on OLX in the country I reside and neighbouring countries to purchase one, but found none... Then I read either the V10 or V20 (don't remember exactly which) was only released in the US and the other only in US and Europe...
A Flagship by definition, is the Ship or in this case the Smatphone that is high-end and represents the Brand, usually worldwide, which in this case is the G-Series... If you ask most people, they don't even know what a V10/20 is, what brand it is, and have probably never seen one, and if they had, they probably wouldn't have known...
Also, if you watch any review video on the G6, they all call it LG's Flagship Device... Of course a brand can have more than one flagship... Samsung for instance has The Galaxy S line and Galaxy Note... Both are considered flagships.
Cheers!!

I Dono much... But do you guys disabled the beauty mode skin tone and all those gimmicks in front camera option ? Cos after that I see it's little sharp and for the author of this thread.... If you knew and loved pretty well about G6 you should have known that front camera is only 5mp before you buying it. It's not a selfie fone bro

I can't believe this. The selfie camera is nothing special. What a disaster, how could they do this to us? I demand a refund.

You'd demand a refund, because you're not pleased with the front camera? I'd say it takes about five seconds browsing reviews of the G6 to conclude that the front camera isn't exactly top notch. But it's not a manufacturing or quality fault.
I am trying to decide between OP5 and G6 (will be buying in India)
I am holding back on picking up a G6 because of these following reasons, so please through some light on the same
1) Software - I am worried that the software (not being stock or OP5 smooth) may become clumsy and slow the phone one I use it for 5-6 months (similar to samsung ones)
2) Battery life - OP5 has better battery than G6 (?). Also as OP5 keeps the battery cool while charging, it may have better long term battery life. My Nexus 4, Nexus 5 and note 4 battery lives reduced drastically to 1.5 hours SOT after a year, year and a half of use. So this has become a major issue for me.
3) Heat on SD821 - I have to rely on 3G almost all the time and I read in a couple of reviews that the SD821 heats up while constant 3G browsing or CPU intensive tasks rather quickly while no such problems with SD835 (OP5)

Yes, yes and yes.
I bought LG G6 in India a week back and Im not completely sold. Having used OPO and OPT, LG software in something else, you either hate it or you don't.
Except Display and Camera, 1+5 offers much more when compered to LG.

how good is the display difference? and camera (apart from video, I mean still photography) of OP5 is at least on par with G6 right? (at least thats what I understood from the pocketnow's in-depth camera reviews of both devices)
and how is the battery life of G6 compared to your 3T?

Display differences depends on your preferences. I prefer LCD over AMOLED. You may not. But that jello affect gets my OCD going.
Camera difference comes down to processing algorithm done by OEMs. For comparison head over to GSMarena photo compare tool and don't let DXOmark scores fool you.
On the side note, If you have budget of G6, I would advise you to wait for Nokia 8 or buy HTC U11 now.

Well let me tell you my thoughts so far ( Just so that you know where my thoughts are coming from, I am a professional fashion photographer)
1) The design is pretty neat. In the sense, feels great in the hand, the screen to body ratio is good, no buttons on the front which make it look seamless.
2) The display itself is not great. Compared to the other LCD's like iPhone 7, Mi5, Mi6 and few other phones, G6 has the least impressive display. The colors look pale, text is not sharp enough, brightness should have been much much better and the viewing angles are poor, blacks are really poor again and you can see the light leak during the night when the always display is on. ( All this compared to the other standard LCD display phones and not compared to an AMOLED). I will never compare AMOLED displays to LCDs, as they both have their own advantages and disadvantages.
2) The camera is a little tricky here, The wide angle is really fun to use and the photos look like none other. But otherwise, its an okay camera, and definitely not good when it comes to the front camera.
3) Battery is fine, gets you through a day with moderate use.
4) Doesn't heat at least for me, i use it on 4G most of the times.
What i would suggest is, see the phone in person, compare it to other similar price range phones and then take a decision. I also have an S7 edge and i am definitely not as happy as i was with S7E. Thats a better phone IMO. I am not at all a fan of OPO, so cant comment on it. You can even consider the Honor 8 pro, which i saw in person and i think its a pretty solid phone too.
I bought the G6 as i felt there were no other options ( I hadn't see the Honor 8 Pro when i bought the G6 and my S7E was a literal pain in the a** to maintain as it did not have a proper tempered glass and that was the main reason why i decided to move away from samsung)
Edit : One more important reason i bought it was, i found an LG employee who bought the phone on 50% discount and sold it to me for 28K ( He had bought it for 23K). If you can catch hold of some LG employee, then it will be a great deal.

Is the G6 still it's money worth? Especially for the camera?

Hello,
i have the oppertunity to buy an LG G6 for 360€ and i want a phone with a good camera. Is the G6 still its money worth? Or should i buy another phone, like a S7 or something?
G6 is still the best choice. I also just got it 3 weeks ago for 380€.
The cameras on the G6 are average, at best. I wouldn't recommend the S7 instead though, overall the G6 would be better.
Average? lol
my new g6 will arrive monday, if all goes well. i narrowed my choices to the g6, the s8, the mi mix 2 and the oneplus 5t. i chose the g6 because it's the cheapest, the smallest (i don't care for the curved display of the s8 a bit). for me the only thing against it is that it has the 2016 snapdragon, but i figured it will still be ok with my usage. otherwise the g6 seems on par (and in some respects better) than the other choices.

Yeah, that's right, G6 uses a IMX258 sensor which is REALLY awful for a flagship device.
If you're good and you plan using the Manual mode then go for G6, with Manual (thanks to the good lg software for camera) it takes beautiful photos, but if you plan to use the Auto Mode more go for something else.
Camera is trash.
Other features is decent.
Design is good (optional).
Software is stabile.
And why is it in your opinion trash?
Camera is decent with very natural colors. If you want more eye catchy processed pictures, then you have Google HDR+ camera port.
the camera is average. i would give it a 6. maybe 7 if you play with with manual mode. but front facing camera is totally horrible. a 3 at best.
The camera is excellent. Though that's only if you're using the GCam port. The LG app photo quality is just....bad.
My gf have s7 and she love my g6 camera so idk what you all talkb about s7 camera sucks
My thoughts are that most people can not handle a camera correctly lol
Cant take photos lul

G6 has a sensor of low budget phone, here is the list with other phones that use it: https://www.kimovil.com/en/list-smartphones-by-lens-model/sony-imx258
I'll repeat myself, if you're able to use manual mode at it's best then G6 can take beautiful photos if compared to any other flagship (beside in low light conditions and for the Front Camera), but in auto it sucks, and when i say "sucks" i compare it to other flagship devices, it does not take horrible photos like a 100 euros phone, but they're not as good as the photos taken with other flagship or in manual.
Don't believe it? I don't care, i just wanted to give you an answer based on my experience on almost 12 months with the G6, and after 10 months with G5, which, in Auto Mode, is still better.
And have you tried the Google Camera HDR+ port to take photos? The LG App isnt really good. And im not that guy who uses the automatic mode on a camera, the Auto Mode is always a compromise.

Yes, and G5 is still better imho, obviously i'm always talking about auto mode, in manual it's a completely different story since the camera app on G6 is better than the one found on G5.
Take in count that the other flagships has also modded version of stock camera/porting, or other camera apps that improve considerably the performance of it.
As i said before the problem of G6 is that you start from a way worse sensor than competitors, that's it, you can do a lot trough software, but the hardware is still limited.
Then can you tell me, why the HTC U Ultra has a better chip than the G6 but takes worse photos?
Many cameras are looking supersaturated and thats not a sign for a good camera. Bud sadly many people like this unrealistic look.

Probably because HTC's software is worse than the one found on LGs, better hardware doesn't necessary means better performance, power is nothing without control.
The most debatable thing is the Camera on G6. Just get the Gcam port and you'll never regret purchasing this device (Except the slow updates ). Its cheaper than Op5t and offers amazing screen and build quality over it. The Hi-Fi dac is fun to. And it's Ip68 water and dust resistant so it will handle Water dip easily . But if you prefer Latest hardware and high specs Op5t is the option. Although Lg G6 can handle all task easily too.
