Dual SIM and SD Card at the same time is not possible! - Sony Xperia XZ1 Questions & Answers

Just for the freaks among us: it is not possible to use Dual SIM and SD Card at the same time. Just tested it today. SIM Card worked and SD card worked but not at the same time. Had a good construction. Physically it fits really good into the slot. Put it in and out some times, got it every time without any potential danger of damaging something. Didn't have to use hard force to get it in.
Something is there in the ROM that Sony did. It is like on the XZ where some other guys tested it. Had the hope that in Oreo and the newest device something has changed but it isn't that case...
Now I have a new 69€ 128 GB Card with some glue leavings on it Someone is in need?

microSD card beware!

Had to return my 3125 because the microSD cards would become corrupt for no reason. This happened twice. Thank goodness I was able to return the microSD cards as defective. This is what happened: Folders/Files would disappear out of the blue. No programs running, no nothing. Listening to music thru my Motorola Bluetooth transceiver(A2DP is very cool). Shut everything down. A couple hours later, Music folder invisible. It's still there, you just can't see it or access it. Take the card to my PC and it does not recognize the microSD card anymore. Hangs everything up. So, from my phone I delete everything from the microSD card. Check the Properties and it shows there is still a gb of data on the card. Now I'm just pissed, so everything goes back to the store. I still had a few days on Cingular's 30 day return policy (Cingular is great). I read a few other threads where people were havng the same issue. Buyer beware. [Applied the A2DP hack to my 2125 (which is a better phone - better reception, easier to use with one hand, ect...) works great - see http://richtech.wordpress.com/2006/05/11/go-wireless-on-your-cingular-2125/
for instructions. I did NOT upgrade my ROM before performing the modification. I still have ROM version 1.0.9.0 and everything works fine.
could be a microsd card problem
would you please post you microsd make and model?
i am currently using a transcend 1gb (normal speed)
been using it everyday for music(yeah a2dp is great) photos documents .... etc
all is fine .. the normal speed doesn't lags so much like when it was on my ppc
I was using a Sandisk (normal speed) microSD purchased from a Verizon Wireless retail store.
I lost a folder (Application Data/Home) during the night without touching the phone. Had to send it in, and received a brand new one back. I do NOT have a memory card at all!
I too is using a microSD card of Sandisk but it dosnot has ne problem.
there is a similar post on howard forums. I had this same problem happen to me twice. Both times it was a sandisk 1gb card, but one of them was the ULTRA model. There is something frying SD cards...and it's not based on brand. I have the qtek 8500 and it happened

I have read somewhere on these forums that if u let ur device to charge for more than 3-4 hrs or leave it by accessing gprs for some time then the device gets hot and can fry ur sd cards or ne internal chip.
dude... i am having the same problem as you... the funniest part is that my Micro SD goes corrupt every 3rd after the reset of the phone or i uses the handfree kit.... but i am using a Dopod S300... is it really the card problem or the phone? i am still figuring out.. cause each time i take my phone to the shop the Micro SD will just be back to normal after 1 hour... but i am using only 512mb

fake or dodgy micro sd?

Hello,
I bought a 2GB Sandisk microSD today from a shop.
Upon inserting it into my hermes, it got stuck: the normal 'spring' action didn't work, and the more I pushed, the more the card slipped into the sd slot until it wouldn't go any further ...
I had to use a pin to slowly pry it out from the slot. Fortunately I got it out.
So did I get a dodgy / fake card?
I did notice that on the dummy microSD card that came with hermes, the front tip (the end that goes into the slot first) is narrower on both left and right side of the card than the back. While on the card I got today, only the left side is narrower; the right side is a straight flush line ... which smells fishy.
Should I return this? The shop keeper keeps saying it's the real thing ...
thanks
It'll loosen up. Mine did that too (on two different devices) for the first few times. BUT, SanDisk doesn't work in Hermes, so, take it back because of that. You need a JAPAN made MicroSD Card... There's a thread on this.

Same here, I have a 2GB SanDisk Micro for over 6mths now, fully utilised and works flawlessly. A lot of ppl bought same card from same place I did, and I haven't heard complaints.
And fits perfectly in my TyTN, from day one.
I'll be the third to say that I have never heard of nor have I ever had problems using my 2gb Sandisk in my Hermes.. Legolas, what are you smoking?
And if you could please provide a link to that thread, I would appreciate acquiring its knowledge.
I have 2 sandisk 2 gig both brought about 4 months apart from seperate suppliers both work fine.
SD Card problems: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294324
Odd that you aren't seeing it.. On my two 8525, I can get the cards to disappear almost on demand.
It looks like mostly a Cingular ROM issue in that thread. Maybe that's why I don't have same problem, I've had my original TyTN ROM until I flashed to WM6 XDA Live 1.0, with which works fine too (not in a hurry to change to xda live 2.0, 1.0 so far works good for me).
I haven't had a single disappearance of my card and/or loss of a file since I bought the phone in Sept last year.
Yes, sandisk cards work fine. The issue with cards disappearing is a rom issue which will eventually be resolved. If you are using a stable rom you won't have a problem.
I've never had to force a card in the slot though!
problem "fixed"
Hi everyone,
Thanks for the replies.
FYI, I've "fixed" the insertion problem now: it seems that I need to be a little careful when inserting the card into the slot, and keep it a little more to the left and down.
The first time I inserted it, I pushed it in a little higher into the slot, which caused it to get stuck. So the problem doesn't occur now, though it does make me wonder why the slot was made with such loose tolerances (I'd expected the card to either go in or not; and if it does go in, the slot should be such that the card goes in without any need for the user to be 'careful').
And the Sandisk 2GB card reads / writes fine in my hermes. I'm using the latest 3.5 ROM from HTC.
cheers.
Changed from SanDisk to Kingston 2GB card. And the device works without any freezes. I guess the Hermes DOES have issues with the SanDisk cards. Only my opinion..
had some corrupt files on my 2gb storage card so i copied off the good stuff then reformated as fat32 alloc unit 512. copied files back on but now TomTom runs like a dog.
have i used the right settings for reformatting?
any other suggestions?

What rom? BL? Radio? etc..? What do you have on the card? Do you experience any issues where the phone goes to sleep and never wakes up until you soft-reset? Do you *ever* need to remove and re-insert the card?
Please, when you're posting information that you want to share with others, be DESCRIPTIVE! We'll never figure stuff out if all you contribute is, "Mine works".

Will the 3125 read a 2gb Microsd card?

just want to be sure it supports 2gb cards before i buy one
yes it supports up to 2GB
In case you're wondering what brands are known to work good in 3125 - I have a SanDisk 2GB in mine that works fine...
Just bought a couple more the other day from a vendor on Amazon.com - 2GB seem to be pretty cheap now. I went for the SanDisk packages that include a SD and mini-SD adapter with each micro-SD card - hardly any more expensive than getting just the micro by itself (and keeps your options open in the future)...
(no, I don't work for SanDisk...

I recently started having problems with my 2g sandisk microSD. The phone sometimes can't see portions of the card. I have to reboot for the phone to correctly see 'all' the card. Anyone else experience this?

do u solve that ?
any ideas ?
i face that with 1 gb and 2 gb and 256 micro Sd cards . i donot know what is the problem ..
please help us guys ..
I had issues in the past where the contact between the phone and card seemed to be a bit flaky. I have since put a small folded piece of paper (just a couple of layers thick) between the SIM card and the SD card to push it down in order to get a better connection. I have not had any problems since.
Hi Mag ,
Thank you So much for your useful post ,
ur solution is the Best , and it is a successful way to resolve that issue ,
i had created a topic here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=420140

I have had that happen before, I think the SD card driver is crashing, once you reboot the phone it seems to work fine. This happened on an official cingular ROM. Never had a problem with Erofichs' ROMS

Just try adding a layer of tape (I used regular, transparent scotch tape) on top of the microSD card and trim it
Resolved the issue for me

Dragontrail phone killed my microSD

Twice!
My Xperia Active twice killed my micro SD card.
Is there any way to prevent that?
The card was inserted and my phone droped on the floor from about 1.5 m.
Memory card died, so I bought a new one.
No the same thing happend!
Not even a scratch on the phone but the card is dead!
Maybe a some shortciruit due to shock. Take it to shop
"Don't judge a book by it's cover" - Unknown
"A man who never did a mistake never tried anything new" - A.Einstein
Mem card had 36 month warranty, but I lost the bill.
Gonna ask the shop if i can get a new recepie, cuz I bought it over webshop.
How do you know, that it is dead?
Maybe just moved a bit, causing incorrect connection.
Or try formatting the card.
I know it's dead because card reader can't recognize it, like I didn't insert anything...
of course, now I lost all my app data and everything related to some apps!
kindda hate Xperia Active for this
I think it depends on the sd card (and what you do with it), some just perform badly in the phone. I had a new sammy sd class 10 card (which i payed a third of some class 6 cards) and the moment i started using link2sd partition, and especially swap partition bam! from one moment to another it was burned (btw i also have an active) after barely a month of life
maybe your device is faulty. dropped mine before as well on concrete flooring, just a dent on the metal rim
1. Not the phone killed your MicroSD.
2. You should definetely buy a water-dust-shock-etc. proof MicroSD, because these memory cards are quite sensitive.
I think the same way. Gotta get one of these cuz looks like that ordinary ones can't handle everything that Active can, specialy the shocks.

"SD Card Unexpectedly Removed" hardware issue solved

Hey all,
I thought I would share my findings to help others with the same issue.
Two days ago I kept catching glimpses of a card image in the notifications at the top of the screen, but it would only be for a second so I could not see what it was trying to tell me. But had a quick look and sd card seemed fine and all data was present on handset. A couple of hours later it popped up with "SD Card Unexpectedly Removed". I tried ejecting and reinserting, restarting device and turning off and removing battery all to no avail. So I did a quick search which showed this seemed to be quite a common issue, after reading many threads with people saying the sd card is corrupt or network providers saying it was software and to do a restore. I decided before all that hassle I would open the phone and check the circuitboard expecting it to be a dry solder joint. One thing I will point out that was different to some other users is the fact my sd card was not visible with the phone connected to the computer, so this may not solve all related issues.
THE FIX
Turn off phone, remove the battery, SIM card and sd card. Remove all screws except the one by the 3.5mm jack. Gently pull the white plastic trim that surrounds the card holders and battery but the top part with speaker and camera does not need removing. Once removed if you look to the left of the sd card holder you will see the ribbon that connects the sd card to the main circuit board and at the end of the ribbon is the connector. Mine was disconnected and was loose, even if yours is not loose it would be worth gently pulling it off and reconnecting it. Then reassemble in the reverse order.
This was a nice surprise in the sense it was a very simple fix. However when I mounted the sd card even directly in my pc it was not found, I assume that the loose connector floating about had probably shorted its connections and caused an issue with the sd card. After a handfuls of attempts at mounting it in my pc it was finally detected and I backed up all the data and reformatted the sd card, then copied the data back, mounted it in my phone and was happy to find it all working as expected.
I hope this information will help some of you out, as it was a simple fix to a simple issue and results from searching had no solutions, just lots of assumptions.
And what can I do
Hi
I read your articles and seem very good but u have a question.
I had the same issue and I saw that every time my phone said I hat message it creates in my sd card a folder named lost. I and then i saw that one part of my battery was going there, ti reconnect the phone with my sd card
I formatted my sd card and did all the things that I found in the Internetbut nnothing works and I just change my sd for another one I had and sincethere u ddon't have any other issue, but my computer detects very good my first sd card and I'm not sure how to fix it.
Any idea?
Regards
Recently ive just faced this issue, what I did is to insert my 32gb sd card in my PC and run CHKDISK, havent got any error while performing this, thereafter i inserted it in my phone & goodness till now this sd card error hasn't appear yet. (finger crossed).
Mine did something like this a few times and then the 32GB Sandisk class 10 card died. Couldn't get it to work in any device except Linux based Media player. Luckily managed to copy my nadroid backup and TB backup. Sent to Sandisk and they replaced it. There is already a thread about S3 damaging teh SD cards. May be the loose connection is what's causing the card to to end up dead.

Yeah,as mentioned I have seen a lot of issues about sd cards, this is the first issue I have had and thought it would be worth mentioning. There is little space when the case is together so it could easily still make contact and seem fine even if the connector has worked loose and cause all kinds of issues. As mentioned mine had the sd icon popping up every now and then before it actually failed. Some users seem to be going through a lot of sd cards with them failing on a regular bassis.
I've been using my 32gb card since my last phone which was the LG Optimus 3D it is a scandisk class 10 one. Anyway i took it out of the 3D and stuck it into my S3 i still have not had a problem. I did take it out a few times to put a rom in because i wiped my phone and didn't have a rom in the Sd card. Also i dropped my phone and replaced the whole front silver bumper bit the whole digitizer because i dropped my phone while playing basketball. It still works. It has been a year now it has been in two phones and still works great. I must be lucky..
I got mugged for the SD though i bought it last year for £60 from Argos a store in the UK. Now you can get them for half the price oh well.. I am waiting for the 128gb ones to come out so going to buy one lol..
today also my Sandisk Ultra HC I 32GB it's died, tomorrow I'll test with pc but no sign of life :crying: WTF samsung !!!
hey i have the same issue with an 32gb sd card, it was workking great and then i was getting the error about
"SD Card Unexpectedly Removed" and then i tried everything i could and my computer detect the sd card and it seems to be working normal but in my phone i have the error over and over again and it was draining my battery too, and the only thing i did was change to another 16gb sd card and this one is working.
maybe there is a problem with the 32gb sd cards
I have a 16GB Sandisk UHS-1 card and i have been getting this issue as well, and its becoming more and more frequent. Whenver it happens, the ringtones/notifications for certain apps like Gmail and Message get reset as the ringtones i set were stored in the sdcard. Also the photo frame app i have on my homescreen often resets to nothing as the pictures were also stored in the sdcard. Its really annoying because I can leave my phone sleeping, only to wake it up realizing my ringtones are all set to silent and my photo frame has been reset. At least i know its a common problem. damn you samsung!
Has anyone actually tried checking the connection on the ribbon as suggested? Mine has been fine since and works fine.

There is no way anyone would know you have opened it, the screws are all Philips instead of t6. As long as you use the correct screwdriver it won't damage the heads and will leave no sign of entery and it takes around 10 mins to complete. Or you could take it to Samsung to do but seems a lot of hassle for such a simple fix.
Also most people are rooted without concern of the warranty.
So there's no seals or stickers that are broken?

Nope, no sticker or seals and just so you know all screws to remove the back are identical, there are only two screws inside which are different but do not need removing for this. You only need a Philips screwdriver ( I used a ph00 x 40) as long as the screwdriver fits the screw well it will not damage the head. Once screws are out a flat head screwdriver or similar are helpfull to prise the back off.
Hi Guys,
A little feedback from my experience with this.
I too was experiencing the "Unexpectedly Removed" error on my 32GB Class10 Sandisk.
It was playing havok with my setup because I use a 8GB Ext4 Partition on the card, where I move 90% of my apps. (About 6GB of that is used by games + their "external" data), and it keeps my phone and FAT32 partition free for important stuff. (I use Link2SD and DirectoryBind)
The problem is, after the device wakes, Link2SD can't find any of the apps, so I can't start any of them, and I have to do a full reboot to get them back. :/
So, after searching and searching, I couldnt find a valid solution.
I tried with a 16GB class10 Samsung, and a 32GB Class10 Samsung card. Exact same setup. NO ISSUES.
Everything works perfectly.
Then I found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933743&page=2
Where most of them are experiencing this error with Sandisk cards.
Apparently, it's a known issue with Sandisk Cards (especially the 32GB models), and cards sold after December 2012 no longer experience this.
I have contacted Amazon.co.uk about replacing the card as it's only 2 months old, still waiting for their answer. Will update if anyones interested.
cheers

A curious question if I may.
Was this a SanDisk Ultra (UHS) card? Most (if not all) Android phones do not have a proper UHS-I driver today and, although the card is supposed to switch down automatically, that transition time can fool the OS sometimes.

I read something about UHS compatibility, so I got an SD-HC
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B007JTKLEK/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1357264092&sr=8-7&pi=SL75
Is it the same thing?
Hmmm. Ok, might be getting somewhere.
Any idea if these cards have an internal "power saving" system that maybe kicks in if voltage drops below a certain level?

Yes, the red and Grey SanDisk cards are UHS.
Yes, they definitely have controllers and the host device can command them (if it knows how). I know that they allow In System Programming (ISP) for updating firmware. They support auto-standby, power-off and sleep modes but am not certain if the card would switch without command. Check the SD link in my signature if you really need more info.

I tested my SanDisk 64GB Ultra card in a Note 2 and it had the same symptoms (Mine were worse, with the card locking up while playing music after a few minutes, causing mmc timeout errors in the kernel).
I switched to a Samsung 64GB Pro card and since then I haven't had any issue. It's also twice as fast.
The amount of headaches this SanDisk card gave me is insane, probably the last time I buy a card from them.
i have sandisk ultra class 10 32gb. try this setup. use minitool to reformat your card then set it the cluster size to 16kb.
for me so far so good. will test this in a couple of days.
