Troubleshooting Google apps not able to listen/hear - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

LG G5, rooted
My phone, dialer, and mic work well with non-Google apps. However, my Google apps don't seem to recognize any spoken input:
"Ok Google" just sits at the dots, not registering any input
I can't train Google Assistant
Hangouts doesn't register any spoken input nor has the speakers output any sound
What's odd is that when I hang up on a Hangouts Dial call, I briefly hear sound. So, from what I can gather, the phone is generally working but somehow there's something specific to how Google wants to do its job that's not working.
Uninstalling data/updates to Google/Google Now didn't do anything. Permissions seem to be fine.
Any ideas?

Android Voice Actions not hearing voice

I seem to be having a problem with voice actions.
When I use an app, let's say Google Voice Search, the mic comes up to accept speech but almost immediately it says "no speech heard".
I have to start it again and start speaking quickly so it won't time out.
Vlingo works fine and gives me plenty of time.
What could be affecting this?
Thanks
Jeff

Voice recognition not working

I'm not sure what's causing this. It seems to have started when I first rooted the phone. Voice recognition isn't working. When I try to use google search the circle around the microphone icon will move, but the icon doesn't turn red as it does when it recognizes voice. If I cup my hands around the microphone on the phone and pretty much yell, sometimes I can get it to work. Other times I can't. Tried another test, downloaded a voice recording app and when I recorded, I could hear my voice but it was INCREDIBLY quiet. I couldn't make out what I was saying at full volume. I have had no complaints about my voice when on phone calls. Does anyone have any idea what this is, or what a fix would be? I'm rooted currently, have tried multiple different roms with the same outcome. Am I just missing a setting somewhere?

[MIC] google now and s voice not working properly

hi so this problem has been persist for a while so basically google now and s-voice is not listening properly
my mic is fine during calls so it's probably a setting i cannot find
in google now the mic doesn't listen at all in app or outside the app (with "ok google" enabled outside the app)
while s-voice works when i open the app and i turned on voice on wake up and was able to set up the command but when i'm outside the app my phone still won't listen
so is there something i missed?
thanks for your time
I'm having the same issue. Phone calls work fine but skype and hangouts or Google now don't work. Neither does the keyboards voice recognition. I can't even setup s voice

Google Voice Input Not Working

I am running a non-rooted Moto Z Force. I have installed GBoard and would like to be able to use the voice to text option. However, when I click on the microphone the text to speech keyboard comes up but stops listening. Even if I hit the button in the middle of the keyboard I just get a quick beep and it never attempts to listen. I am however able to use the voice to text from my watch. Could there be some sort of conflict between my watch and phone? I have tried several different apps and get the same result. I have uninstalled and reinstalled GBoard multiple times.
Hello,
Is you media volume on? Because some time a go my google voice also didn't work.
I didn't have a clue why it didn't worked till I discovered that I put my media volume to zero.....

Bizarre sound/mic issue on RS988

My stock camera doesn't record sound, and when making Hangouts Dialer calls I don't hear anything nor does any mic work (plugged-in headset or chin mic). Google Now doesn't hear me, and I can't train the Google Assistant (it never hears "okay Google").
Meanwhile, regular calls (and Google Voice) work fine. I'm now using Open Camera to shoot video, and that app has full functionality. I have a 3rd party voice recorder app that works fine as well.
I did come up with a workaround, in that when I hooked up a USB OTG hub to the phone then plugged in a USB headset through the hub, Hangouts Dialer had full sound/mic capability; I didn't test anything else yet.
So I'm thinking this is some kind of oddball firmware issue. I saw that there was some tinkering that could be done with /system/etc/mixer_paths_tasha.xml (per thread at https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/how-to/fix-mic-speaker-mode-call-t3565646 ), but I don't really know what I'm looking at in there and so while I'm willing to tinker I don't know what to do.
Any ideas?
