Does Mate 10 support FULL HD, (Netflix, Youtube, etc) ? - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

Before I pull the pin on this one, I need to know if the Mate 10 has all the "certifications" required to be able to display FULL HD content from Youtube and Netflix.
I know that some manufacturers (like OnePlus) do NOT have the required certifications, and thus can only play content at SD / low-resolution quality.
Let me know - thanks !

Ermmm, even oneplus can show Full HD content,
Even an other cheap low budget brand phone like umidigi or doogee can show Full HD content if the screen spec supporting it.
Did you by any chance mean HDR instead ??

Does anyone tested if the Mate 10 Pro has HD Support on Netflix? (Amazon HD came as update)
Does this phone have "Widevine L1 "? (App for testing: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androidfung.drminfo&hl=en)
Thanks in advance!
(Also @otonieru does not get the point. It's about the DRM of streaming hosts like Netflix etc.)

Oneplus 5T can't play HD(1080p) videos on Netflix. it can play on youtube but not on Netflix. I sold my Oneplus 5T only cuz of netflix quality issues. and I waited for Oreo update to fix it but on first beta issue was there.
I would like to know about Mate 10 pro though if that supports Netflix HD(1080p) video.

I have the Mate 10 Pro now and I think it does. I think Netflix looks sharp after some buffering. But it is only an assumption on the basis of the seen. Is it possible to see exactly the resolution as on Youtube?

...so mate 10 pro supports netflix hd or not?

@denzel09 Thanks for this very useful question.
I tested again. The Mate 10 Pro can't play HD content on Netflix.

what a disappointment ?

Hope there will be a solution.. or maybe we need to talk with netflix support

Any news about this?

The mate 10 pro can stream HD from Netflix, since it's certified L1 at the Google Widevine Modular DRM.

As per Netflix website :
Netflix Dolby Vision:
LG G6
Netflix HDR:
LG V30
Razer Phone
Samsung Galaxy Note 8
Sony Xperia XZ Premium
Sony Xperia XZ1

I wonder if there can be a modded Netflix app where we can spoof the device in settings to enable HDR. Exactly like with the modded YouTube app iYTBP which can spoof another phone to enable HDR video playback.

I had a look rapidly, but didn't find anything interesting.
So let's just download illegally HDR movies if these ****ers do not want to give it to us

Strange problem...
If MX works with MicroSD unmounted, can you tell us MicroSD works with other apps such as album?
If saved pics in MicroSD can be accessed by albums and other apps, then it might be a good idea to uninstall the MX app, reboot and then try re-install.
Hard reset might be necessary if the above does not work.

i have had Reboot and reinstall MX player for several times already

I can understand your frustration.
I have long used MX as well, and value it very much.
I suggest you do a repair or complete dalvik wipe and reinstall your firmware.
I will do it without doubt, even though hassle if I were to have problems with MX... worth a shot.
BTW, you havn't fiddled with the build prop or changed anything with Xposed framework, have u?
Mx player doesn't work for me either. Not sure if linked to xposed framework.
BSplayer is very similar but works a treat
No problems at all.

Youtube performance woes

Hey guys, picked up the V10 from T-Mobile a few days ago. Today I noticed that 1080p videos on YouTube constantly buffer, making them unwatchable. I ran a few speed tests, and am getting 80+mbps, so it shouldn't be bandwidth.
Edit: was trying to look through suggested threads and accidentally hit enter, which posted thread. Please close.
So, this isn't an issue?

It is absolutely an issue, but there we're other threads that might relate. It seems I'm the only one reporting an issue plaing 1080p Youtube videos however. Everyone else is reporting problems with 1440p, which I am also having trouble with.
So far I'm thinking it could be the youtube app, as the buffering issues don't persist if I load the videos through Youtube website via chrome.

I've had similar issues. Nothing plays at 60fps , the option was never available with youtube on this particular phone. If i try in desktop mode on Chrome it'll completely crash Chrome every time. Also 1440p continues to freeze the video on about 85%-90% of videos with the 1440p option. Overall lackluster video playback performance with many full hd videos online in comparison to several other similar phones. Not sure if a software fix will be sent any time soon to fix the problem. Disappointing glitch to have on such a neat phone.
I had the same problem until I uninstalled youtube updates, then it played fine. I was going to leave the older version un updated due to the smooth playback. But I realized my phone updated the youtube app on its own. Now it plays fine.

I saw this earlier and hadn't tried yet. If it worked for another it might just work and imply that youtube is at fault. Good find, trying now!
I thought it worked on one video I tried. It was smoother and played all the way through after I uninstalled updates from youtube app info.
But this vid still locks up on me at around 1:00min
https://youtu.be/AI1N7oelEW0
---------- Post added at 09:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:01 PM ----------
I also downloaded and installed OGyoutube (which is an older modded youtube with option to download and convert to mp3, search Google for official downloads) which has an option to download in 2k. After downloading the 240mb file, I played it in the LG default video player and it was so smooth and even smoother than streaming 1080p video from youtube, so it has to be the app because the phone can handle the file no problem. Kinda blows but it is what it is..
Ya i tried uninstalling the update. Even wiped app data and rebooted. Still locks up same spot
Man am I glad I found this tread! I was having the same issue with You Tube buffering and it has been driving me insane!!! I was excited that I got gigabit internet so I wouldn't have any buffering, but I was wrong. I can't get any video to play without constant buffering (I was getting 200+mb down on wifi at the time). Uninstalling the updates fixed the issues I was having. I am still having issues with 1440 playback however, which is disappointing.
hey i'm having similar issues, tried to uninstall update, tried ogyoutube, still buffers anything 1080p and above. This only happens when im on my data, (t-mo 90+mb down) However, when im at home connected to my 50mb comcast wifi, no buffering even on 1440p. Any ideas?

Actually im not ...my girl has this same phone and has the same issue.....granted she could care less about watching it in hd streaming period...but with speeds like this....there should be no such thing as buffering here unless the Site or the app has problems and we know that isn't true if I can do it from a PC or from a PlayStation 4 console or tablet or Xbox one console

Nope. You're definitely not the only one having issues with youtube on this phone. The highest resolution settings on youtube seem to give this phone problems. 1080p has hiccups as though it's battling to play the video smooth. 1440p works maybe 10% to 15% of the time without freezing the vid ,while audio continues?? Weird. It just does not stream video as well as other smartphones with similar specs. It's very strange. Hopefully this future "software update" fixes this video stream issue. Id love my silky smooth video playback like I had on my G2

Mxplayer hw+ on padfone s

Dear All,
I am padfone s ww user with latest lollipop. When i use mxplayer to play video, most of the time it will use software decode. If hw is availabe, the beginning of the video will have a broken image for few seconds. In addition, when i use ds file to access my nas and ply video on the harddisc, it won't allow me to fast forward. Does anyone know how to enable hw+ on padfone s? It always said hw+ is not support. Anyway to get it works? Thx
Your Lollipop is the unmodified ROM from ASUS? Did you do SKU conversion (i.e. switch between TW and WW)? Your app is MX Player or MX Player Pro? The description in the Play store says that the Pro version is ad-free so I am guessing the functionality otherwise is the same. Mine also has ASUS' latest LP ROM loaded and I use MX Player Pro and this allows me to select HW+ decoder:

To get it to work I just install the app and launch and then open decoder settings and select HW+.
I used to own a New Padfone Infinity (A86) and with that phone neither HW nor HW+ decoders would work. It allowed me to select these but the playback was very choppy.

Thank you. I am on 12.2.2.43 official rom and hard reset has been made after rom upgrade. The phone is come with ww version and i never change it. Just using the free MXplayer. I selected the option as in your screen cap. I can play the movie as normal. Just when i see a moive, I see that it is using software decoding. In that case, movie play fine. Just wonder it will consume more battery. In some case, it allow me to use hw, as I mention, it has 2 second broken screen at the beginning and don't allow me to do fast forward even I move the time bar to the middle of the moive. It never allow me to choose hw+. I am on 1.8.4 beta. But tried 1.7.x and 1.8.6 beta but result is the same.
By the way, i am using the app ds file to access the file in my synology NAS. Don't know if it is a cause this problem.
When I'm watching a movie it shows HW+ switched on. I also have a DiskStation but I use DS Video for watching movies off it. In the screenshots attached here I am playing a movie directly from a microSD card inside the phone and another movie via DS Video.

I have MX Player Pro version 1.7.40 installed and the phone is running KK from ASUS ROM version 11.10.7.11.
This is the version that the phone came preloaded with and also the version I've found to be most stable with least bugs. I have tried LP and MM and haven't found them to be giving good enough new features to balance up for the greater number of problems that comes along.

I think my problem is caused by LP then . I did not aware that whether this issue exist before i upgrade. Thank you for your help these days.
Your problem may be something else. Today I played around with LP and MM, just to try these out for a few hours. HW+ decoder works in both in MX Player Pro.
But these ROMs are so bad - bitter and angry tears - a sigh of relief when I'm back on KK again.
I wish JB was available for the PFS. This was the best ROM on my previous Padfone, the NPFI.

Disabled 4K Cine Video after update to 9.0

I called to LG support in Poland and they said that this is true - with Android 7 and 8 they can record 4K on Cine Video but after update to 9 it is impossible (but only in Cine Video - in auto or manual mode you can still record 4K). Moreover they said that downgrade to 8.0 can cause that my warranty will not be accepted if something will be wrong in the future.
So is it possible to somehow extract camera app from Adroid 7 or 8 and install it on Android 9 (without root permission), or maybe there is another way to solve this? I will be very grateful for your help.

Mine can record on 4K on Pie (H933 convert to H93030b), so I don't understand why your V30 can't.. ?
EDIT: My camera app is the native one who come with the H93030b update!
You probably have some mode on that is disabling 4K and 60 fps. Try turning off Bright Mode or AI mode.
Even in my case (V30, with OPEN_EU pie) 4k (UHD) is disabled when I choose MANUAL, CINEVIDEO and other...4K is available only with AUTO mode.

In Cine Video mode I am not allowed to change bright mode (it is set to turn off) nor HDR (it is set to turn on).
Moreover I just realised that when I turn on AI CAM in Auto Mode then I am not allowed to record 4k or 60fps fhd as in Cine Video.

Download and Install updated LG Camera 7.2 app version (lg-camera-7-20-69, not 8 which is not compatible) from apkmirror website and UHD Cine Video will be available again.
You can also download and install LG Cine Shot 2.0 app from same website which works on V30 Android 9 and is a nice additional feature of newer LG phones.

Thank you.

I have the same problem in my LG V40
FIX:
In the resolution selection window, tap frantically (with your both thumbs), very fast, the UHD 16:9 option until be set, and voilà! Now you will shoot a real UHD resolution Cine Video. (do not choose 60fps, there's no way to get a HDR/Cine video in that framerate).
Cheers
Confirm - it works. Also recorded video has a UHD resolution in details. But after re-lanuch Camera app the resolution change to standard FHD.

Mine can record on 4K on Pie (H933 convert to H93030b), so I don't understand why your V30 can't.. ?
EDIT: My camera app is the native one who come with the H93030b update!

He did something strongly not recommended as it can seriously mess up your phone. Every day I tell people NOT to flash any North American variant to stock H930 firmware. But many people are confused because AOSP LOS ROMs are (mistakenly) called "H930" ROMs. They aren't. They are "V30" ROMs, "Joan" ROMs, whatever you want to call them, but they are not (only) "H930" ROMs. So, against all advice many people think they need to flash stock H930 firmware to run AOSP ROMs. Which then screws up their phone if they have North American variant.
You should NOT cross flash North American variant with any V30 firmware outside of North America. You should NOT cross flash any H930 variant to North America.
I have instructions everywhere warning people NOT to do that. All AOSP/LOS ROMs are already compatible with EVERY variant EXCEPT for T-mobile H932.
For people who insist on doing it anyway (for almost no legitimate reason), you have to omit certain partitions and there's no advantage for regular people to flashing H930 firmware over North American variants. Your bands do NOT change, but you risk severely messing up your phone.
For people who claim it's the only way they can update to Pie, they are liars. OK, too strong a word. They are just too lazy to follow the workarounds in Post #6 of the US998 Pie KDZ or they don't want to read the instructions. Almost every day I have to rescue people who try this.

Yes, the app insists to disable UHD Cine Video, but al least is an option.
Hey, I had the same issue and just fixed it by updating the camera app to version 7.20.69 (from APK mirror). Now the option is available, so it must have been a bug and they only rolled it out to some phone versions.

Camera App with 4k 60 fps video recording

Hi
Someone knows a camera app which can record videos in 4k with 60 fps? I tried the Gcam mod. But when i choose 60 fps and ultra HD the app get a "force close"... I tried so many camera apps from the googel play store... but i did not find any app which can record 60 fps and 4k...
And it is very important because i want test if my phone is broken, or it's a software bug.
Edit: My phone is the G8s.
What 'bout the stock camera? It's working perfectly in 4k/60fps for me on my Sprint G8 20e

I like the stock app. But the 4k 60fps recording is laggy. I opened another Thread on xda some weeks ago. And someone wrote that is a bug on the v50 and it seems the g8s have this bug, too. It is a little laggy in the recording. When i watch the Video in Vlc player on PC or on the phone.
And i want to test if it is really a software bug from the stock app or if my phone is broken. I am not the only one with a laggy cam app on G8s.
But no chance... I did not find an app which can record 4k 60fps on G8s
The only app i know of that can do that is filmic pro, its the only 3rd party tool i know of that can do 60-240fps, but its shareware, only if your willing to pay. Free there are none i know of. Hope this helps, find it on play store. Works on my G8s

Ok... I tried now the evaluation App from this. And no 4k 60fps with my device. I think there is no app than the stock app which can record this... It's so strange...

Yes your right, i just checked and only 1080p can go 60 120 and 240fps. Maybe android 10 will fix this when we eventually get it. Sorry for that
