FunkyHuawei firmwares are kinda strange !!! - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

you see when i updates my phones firmware via OTA method after i turned on the phone 1st time the update included full change log and fixes
then i see FH got a newer FW ( B126 for mate10pro) so i installed that then i look into the system update and there's no change log at all , going back to mate 9 pro which i was updating using FH i remember looking at new FWs in FH reddit page but i couldn't get those updates OTA even a month after he put them up
can he disable OTA updates so people are forced to use his method again and again ?? it costs money to use those FWs

OTA updates are not disabled -- they couldn't be. As long as you change your DNS back to something other than our server, the request will go to Huawei's server for an OTA. Huawei can be very slow rolling out OTAs or not roll them out to your phone. It's Huawei's fault, nothing to do with FH.

Yes. If you keep FunkyHuawei DNS settings, the update requests will be routed to FunkyHuawei's servers, so that you can install updates selected on FunkyHuawei. Consequently, of course your update requests won't go to Huawei's server.
When you are not using the service, you should restore your original DNS settings.

FH gets new firmwares before Huawei rolls them out. Until Huawei rolls them out by OTA, they don't release a changelog -- instead they come with a dummy changelog. Old firmwares which are already rolling out will include changelogs in most cases.

It's your choice whether you wait to install something or not -- Even the changelogs released by Huawei are never very specific about what bugs they fix, what security update is included, etc. It is one of many of the problems with Huawei's rollout procedures.
Waiting until there is a change log to release a firmware would make no sense -- one of the advantages FunkyHuawei offers its customers is earliest access to new firmware versions, before they roll out to the public. If you prefer to have a changelog before you install something, just wait until there is a changelog, or until Huawei rolls it out to your phone.

I think you're missing the point of FH. If you buy a Chinese mate for example and rebrand to UK firmware the only way to get updates is by forcing it via FH or similar due to authorised IMEI issues.
Using FH you get the firmwares alot earlier (sometimes months) before Huawei roll them out officially, it's your choice if you use them or not.

Very strange, the Company "Huawei" is slow and FH is fast, from where FH is getting firmwares before than Huawei?

1. Huawei builds a firmware.
2. Huawei rolls it out.
The is a lot of time between 1 and 2. Does this make sense?
Huawei makes the firmware, but before they roll it out, FH is able to offer infrastructure to install it.

Thats logical, but who provide you these firmwares? Is it huawei? Do you pay them for these builds? Or they pay you for providing infrastructure? Btw what kind of infrastructure you are providing to huawei? Are they immature to test their builds before releasing to public and availing your services???

...You're misunderstanding. FH provides services to the public, not to Huawei.
Huawei is very slow about rolling out updates, especially when people use phones in regions they're not sold in, or when updates are new.
FH gives its customers the ability to install the updates.
How it works internally is something that can't be made public.

Not entirely true! You pay FH for their rebranding services, but nobody force you to pay them for a new firmware, you can either wait for Huawei to push the OTA to your device or use Firmware Finder (free) when the firmware is available for your brand.

OTAs are free of charge, nobody ask money from you, so what we are talking about here!?No third party development is another matter, but Huawei never advertised that, as Oneplus, so before buying just have a look on XDA it's easy to understand that Huawei devices are not Nexus/Pixel.

Oh geez,
Just by reading few comments in this thread already make me sad about what happen in xda nowaday,
People simply assume, without even search for more information or try to learn about devices/brand they are using first.

Unfortunately people get used to updates with other manufacturers, but then you read on XDA that if you want the latest update with Huawei , you probably need to pay a third party to get that update. I have a C782, and have been watching as other models have received multiple updates, while my model hasn't had one.
To get round this I would have to pay Funky Huawei to rebrand so I can stay upto date. I may do this at some point, especially if someone brings out a free method.
Its not bothering me yet, as I only appear to have a few bugs with 115, but it would be nice to receive updates. My first Huawei, and I love the phone.

Hello there, I'm wondering why wouldn't you consider downloading the latest firmware for C782 using Firmware Finder app (using the in-app proxy) method so that you can force an OTA update for your phone? This way there's no need to re-brand or wait for OTA. I'm on BLA-L29 .119 (C636) and there's .126 available (listed on Firmware Finder) so i'm considering this option. However, I am holding out to see when the OTA comes to my phone (I have the Asia version and using it in Asia). You thoughts? Glad you like the phone - I do too, coming from an S7 Edge.

Unfortunately there is no update for C782 on Firmware Finder, so I would need to rebrand first. There is a way of doing it for free but you need to unlock the bootloader first. I've tried downloading a full C432 update, as someone said it changed their device, but no such luck I'm afraid.

protect yourself from Stagefright attacks?

Hi guys,
It is well known that us LG g2 users on stock and stock based rom have vulnerabilities in the Stagefright framework. It won't be long before someone designs an attack which can be spread very easily, think of the sms bug on iPhones which caused them to shut down.
Luckily Apple's ecosystem is not fragmented like the android ecosystem. Apple delivered a patch very fast. Now of course Google patched things up in the newest android versions but what about the rest of us running kitkat or lower?
I am opening this thread to let us discuss the possible workarounds/solutions/prevention methods to keep us safe from Stagefright exploits.
Cheers,
An LG g2 user (stock)

Ill be honest. This is not really a big deal. Well that is unless you make your phone number public (not sure why someone would do that) by posting it on social networks or open forums.
Other then that you really have less then .01% of a chance of being targeted. Mainly as MMS really is really not used much outside the states.

With the G2 that might not mean much as it will have to go through the carriers. Keep in mind that these companies are Europe based and in europe carriers dont control updates so the OEM can push it right to the device. Not the case here in the states.
What about the new Certifi-gate hack???

I know tmobile does in the states didn't know they did in Europe as well. Sucks because as long as the carrier controls it then most will not get an update.
latest Cyanogenmod ROMs incorporate these changes already
This has been patched in AOSP.
So far i have tested CM12.1 Nighly and the latest SlimLP and i can confirm this has been patched. The people running stock ROM might have to disable MMS 'Auto retrieve' function in their messaging app temporarily until an update arrives from their Carrier.

Until one of your contacts is compromised, then the attacker has the entire address book including your number. No public posting needed. Do you trust everyone who has your number will not open a malicious MMS? I know I don't

The dilemma G2 users face is whether to stick with the excellent KK 4.4.2 20H, (which isn't patched.) or upgrade to the L 5.0.2. As the 5.0.X version of L have a memory leak, I'd rather stay on KK.
What we really need LG to do is just release 5.1 as a minimum but I don't see it happening. 5.1 would take care of the Stagefright bug and the memory leak.

Benefits of B322 over B309

Dear HAM2 users, I am currently on b309 and would like to update to b322 but hate re-installing all apps again. Hence I am reluctant so far for that reason.
Is there big difference in performance between b309 and B322?
Will there be another update to b322 or this is it?
The fact that everyone hasn't received ota update gives me impression that this is not final yet.
Is it worth the effort to update now or should I wait a few more weeks.
Thanks.

Does that mean this is the final release and Huawei has completed the Lollypop official release?

Not sure why people continue to rag on Huawei. They released LP on the HAM. They did a bunch of updates and then released B322. It seems to be working pretty damn good. They may release updates as they see fit. Think we should be happy we got LP quite frankly on this device. Then again, some people are never happy.

Not releasing KK and then being late releasing LP was very likely not making people happy from what I gathered reading the HAM2 forum here.
I just my mega HAM2 a few days ago . Waiting for Huawei to sent me my bootloader unlock code ( I was not one of the people who received a response withing hours ) so I can root my LP upgraded phone and hopefully Xposed framework will be working on the HAM2 in the not too distant future.

Doubtful. The only reason they released L to start with was because SOOO many people raised hell about it. Basically killing any hope of selling a lot of people devices in the future. And anyone researching huawei would see that failure. Again this isn't a successful business practice. I highly doubt any more updates... Unless its a major security flaw. Having CM support boosted the chance people may buy huawei stuff again. But only slightly. There is obviously fanboys of huawei.. Just like Apple has its lemmings. For huawei though that isn't a significant number of users. One can only hope they Learnd a lesson this time. As Scoots said. IF... Time will tell.

LOL @Moody66...and there are the people who try their best to try and create as much fud and rhetoric as possible. We'll just see how popular Huawei is when they release the new Nexus and people who claimed they would never, ever use their products again and continue to post things like this, trip over themselves to buy one.

Disgusting treatment of EU Axon 7 users

Hi,
Some really bad news for anyone that's been unfortunate enough to purchase an A7 EU version.
I have contacted ZTEUK on FB messenger directly to ask about the Nougat update and this is their exact response.
"Hi Mike, Please keep an eye out on our social channels for any information regarding updates. We do not currently have plans to update to Nougat though this may change. Thanks, the ZTE UK team."
Taking into account the amount of EU phones out there this is beyond dreadful in terms of treatment, the question is, where do we go from here? I didn't want to bother rooting the phone, but is there any option left now it's possibly not getting the update at all?
No daydream, no patch fixes, no volume fix, the list goes on!!
How do we pressure ZTE into dealing with this, failing that what other options do we have?
Mike
Haha I doubt it, these customer reps have no idea.
There has been an extensive Nougat test going on as well as confirmations on twitter etc.
G Version will get Nougat.

I hope so, that brings some comfort, really the reps should not give throw away replies like that.
Thanks :good:
Don't worry, it just furthers the idea that global organization of ZTE is totally lacking, especially for their EU customers (far behind their american ones). Nougat was announced first by ZTE Germany back in November (originally planned for end of january) and is currently undergoing beta testing as far as I know. The thing is, ZTE Germany is apparently taking care of the dev for the G version but they officially supports only german customers, even if they kinda tried to create an "european" community. Other european branches (it's the case for ZTE france at least) of ZTE seem to be only PR posting advertisement on facebook/twitter. IMO, your rep just copy pasted the basic stonewalling response to this question and has either no information whatsoever or wanted to answer politely without getting carried away.
(If anyone has more info, feel free to correct me)
G Variant will sure get the Nougat Update soon, ZTE UK should know this too dont know why you got this answer from them. But if you G Variant user, follow ZTE Mobile Deutschland on Facebook
Coming from US nougat. There's still bugs, battery drain, etc. Issues that are in the release. I'd rather be back in MM honestly. A stable and complete release would've been better instead of releasing early due to demand. Just look up the issue with whatsapp. Millions of users and they didn't notice such a glaring bug.
I can say without a doubt in my mind that the Axon 2017G will also get Nougat. They are usually a little behind the US team with releases so I imagine it will probably be sometime in March
I wouldn't be surprised if you could just flash the bootstack and modem from LineageOS thread and flash A2017U system on top. I'm totally satisfied with LineageOS, so I'm not even thinking on doing that now or in the future.
The G Variant needs more time than us because they want to fix all founded bugs and increase the quality. like musicdjm said, it will release end feb. or beginning of march. zte could Release it in the end of January but there were too many bug, because of that they started a beta test phase and postponed the Release date

I have the US ZTE Axon 7 (A2017U) and updated to Nougat. What is the WhatsApp bug again? I haven't noticed anything but you can tell me and I will cry in a corner once I know. :crying:
@op When everything else fails, go to change.org and create a petition. The ASUS Zenfone 2 users did that and they are apparently getting the Nougat update in July.

The Axon7 G Variant will directly get 7.1.1

How long does it take for firmware to be "approved"

For about a fortnight Firmware Finder has said that there's a new firmware (.132) for my phone, which is a BLA-L09C34 (Optus Australia).
I am keen to see if the new version fixes a few little annoyances for me.
However, FF is still saying "the firmware is not approved for installation." How long does this usually take once it's up on FF?
In my experience about 1 month
Yep, it's BS having monthly updates when they are a month behind.
Ff is approved same time Ota is available...
So no use to risk bricking... ?

Hi , got a quick noob question.
I updated my ALP-L29 from .131 to .132 when I got a notification, but now noticed that the step-counter is no longer available among other things. Is it possible to downgrade to .131 by just installing it from FF.
Can't seem to find an answer to this anywhere....don't want to brick a second Huawei/Honor phone.

Excuse my ignorance but is being behind 1 month really that important to you? Whats so special about the device being updated consistently?
Never in the 10+ years I've tweaked with Android/Windows Mobile that I have seen so many people complaining and whining about companies not updating their devices in a timely manner, all I remember is anticipating the next custom ROM to be cooked and ready for flashing, not some silly patch(IMO)
I've had my Mate 9 on Nougat and NEVER had an issue with anything security or performance, same deal with my M10 Pro

As far as basic phone operation goes it's not much. As far as feature updates go it's annoying that some will get them up to 3 months later than others.
If you're into tweaking and custom ROMs why weren't you building them yourself?

I previously did some old private ones for Windows Mobile(HTC Diamond/TP2), and some Android(N6, S2, Note 2 etc.), however I have a busy life so I dont see it as a priority at this moment. :good:

Agreed. But the lack of Android updates is more upsetting the promises they failed to keep.
Im glad that other companies other than Google are committed to quick updates.
Nokia and Essential being the 2 standouts.

EMUI 10

It has swipe up finally
Here is XDA video with some of the visual changes.
Swipe up app draw, I always forget that name. Anyway I take it this will be out with Q rather than standalone, obviously so I expect it next year or something
Mate 20 along with all the 20 series barring lite could get EMUI 10 by the end of next month if this is anything to go by:

Yeah it is what they says but the fact it is that probably you will need to be a developer to get the beta and to have a Chinese phone so don't assume we will get it straight away like that...
As long as they don't implement swype down to expand notification bar, I'll never use their stock launcher.
Microsoft launcher does it for me lol ?
Most of the launchers do this, I don't understand why they don't implement this.
Looks like possible EMUI 10 is out in the wild ... This link on the firmware finder site..
And looking at the Ver info inside the zip file refers to LYA-L29

Not as yet.. Will perhaps try the unlocked bootloader HOTA push method first and see how it turns out.

Android 10 came out september 3. on google pixel first. Waiting 2 months for major update is nothing. Basically Huawei is doing best job with updates. Much better than most of competition.

Like all tech companies Huawei want to sell new phones so they will wait with updating their older phones in order to "motivate" their existing customers to upgrade to the latest and greatest.
