Magisk on mate 10 ? - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

Does someone successed to install magisk on his mate 10 ?
(Magisk is a systemless root. Magisk root is not visible by safetynet. So you can install netflix, use google pay, etc. with a rooted phone)
I have tried with the magisk manager on rooted rom => failed
I have tried with the zip file (we can do that with a modified recovery but it's annoying) => failed
I have tried with adb and fastboot to generate a flashable boot.img => bootloop
Someone have an idea for Magisk ?

I'm guessing Huawei disabled Loop device support for all Oreo firmware (doesn't work on Mate 9 Oreo either), regardless of device. You could build your own kernel using mate 10 kernel source and enable loop devices.
Magisk need loop support to install. SuperSU can do system-install as well so it will install even if loop devices are disabled (need to edit so it finds RAMDISK instead of BOOT).

I sucessfully installed magisk on mine using this method:

I had, the problem is that when googling it, this post comes first with a bunch of other non-relevant results (Magisk for mate 10 pro).
I wasted a lot of time trying to adapt the mate 10 pro method to the mate 10 (but couldn't find a stock ramdisk image for my mate 10).
So to save time for people coming after me, I thought it would be good to point them directly to the right thread.

Get TWRP and flash latest magisk beta
For many people hwota method or so didn't work, don't ask me why. But flashing TWRP, even though hwota should work then too and then flashing magisk beta zip works fine.
But if someone wants to flash an OTA, be sure to flash back ramdisk_recovery

You can't flash Xposed in EMUI. Well there is a modified stock ROM for our phone that you can flash Xposed with, I recommend that you flash a custom ROM first. Go try CM first for size.

I've installed Xposed on my L22 B360, there seems to be no problem. Go here and download xposed zip file for sdk23/arm64 version and flash it in TWRP. Then install the xposed installer apk to activate the modules. The first boot may take some time.

that you both of you for your prompt reply. i tried xposed-v86-sdk23-arm64 but it still stuck at boot logo while xposed-v85-sdk23-arm64 finally worked like a charm its may be because I'm at stock rom only.
also please enlighten me using about using CM a bit more. I'm pretty comfortable using custom roms but havn't tried CM yet. Which CM version should I try if this is my first hand on CM. Also would you please tell me about what benefits I can expect against my stock b360 ? and basically what are the pros and cons? . I'm sorry if its a very noob question.

CM is closer to stock android than EMUI with little customizations, so if u want stock android experience go for it.
There are CM12.1 and 13 for us. CM13 is official with nightlies and it has Fingerprint support too. Go for it.
I would say that CM13 is much smoother than EMUI B360. While battery backup may vary, the trend I found was B130>CM13>B360. All 3 of them had xposed+amplify+greenify installed. B360 has VoLTE support, so if u are using Jio then u get True Voice calls(tho there's not much difference). IMO there is little reason to stay on B360 other than VoLTE.

If you are in B360 right now, you can't flash custom ROMs. You need to downgrade to B350 or lower because it will bootloop.
You should try the latest nightly of CM.
The pros and cons will depend on your personal preferences.
CM is vanilla Android with some modifications for performance, while stock ROM is EMUI which has the looks of iOS.

well what I basically need is smoothest experience without lags and everything working and that includes VoLTE and .

All ROMs that we have are for all variants of this phone. Yes you'll lose VoLTE with B350 downgrade. Performance of custom ROMs vary from user to user because we have different app setup choices so it's important to try most of them. No problem buddy we are always here to help.

Now that the xposed framework has been released (beta) for oreo, is there anyone thats managed to get it working on a mate 10 pro?
Ive tried from within the xposed app to install it (sdk26) and bootloops, tried to flash the zip within flashfire pro (rooted) and bootloops again
Same problem....after installation of xposed framework always bootloops.....

Don't worry mate !
It's true, we still don't have xposed working however you can root with Magisk and you won't loose any feature. You'll need to factory reset to unlock the bootloader tho.

Thank you! that makes me feel a bit better about the mate 10 if I can at least get root without sacrificing anything. thank you for the information and the link. I'm having a hard time understanding the instructions in that thread however, and just posted a question there about it. Would appreciate any help in figuring it out!
recently, we have many news for mate 10 (pro). magisk/TWRP, is there any update related to xposed for mate 10(pro)? expecting for this framework to have my device modified further.
Does anybody have news about Mate 10 (Pro) compatible Xposed? Since we got data decrypting twrp now the lack of Xposed is teh last thing holding me from unlocking / rooting my phone. Thanks!

The bootloop as been fixed with the Beta 4 avalable here

No need to factory reset, just flash over the Beta 4 with TRWP and wait 3 minutes after the reboot. VOILA !
Enjoy

I have been using Xposed for a few days but there aren't many modules that work with it in our os.

Xposed runs atm only at phh treble ROM.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8-pro/development/rom-t3758564 or use original phh treble feed with v18 system.img for A-only devices (both works fine on my Mate 10 Pro C432)
Flash the system.img via fastboot, clear userdata (factory reset) in stock recovery. (it will delete all user data!)
Flash TWRP recovery via fastboot. Go to adb sideload mode.
Root with magisk zip through adb sideload. Reboot into system. Alternatively you can flash the pre rooted phh image
Then download the latest xposed installer apk and install xposed through recovery mode.
Reboot.
P. S. aosp didn't have a private space feature...
P. P. S. You can install p20 cam via magisk later - works fine for me
I use GravityBox, Lucky Patcher, BubbleUPnP
Xposed successfully installed! I have realised however that the stock sound recorder app stops working after I flash Xposed - the stock sound recorder app force closes as soon as you touch the icon.
Also any applications installed/updated receive an incompatible with system error notification message although they are compatible.
It wouldn't be great if anyone has a fix to the above two problems.
Just reporting bugs ?
Someone should also start an actual official Xposed thread.

Is the magisk zip only for mido? Or is it generic as well?
I only have mido for testing , but it should be universal. I should build an image with su for treble devices without twrp, I guess.
An alpha build of twrp is available for the Honor 9 lite. I'll test in the next 24 hrs and report here.
Working on any Treble supported device right?
It should work on any device phh-treble works.
Would you be interested in adding fixes for the Huawei mate 10 pro ?
I could try to play the guinea pig.
Maybe a secondary flashable zip / kernel would do the job as not much has to be fixed...

If you're using the Treble LOS right now, you will not find anything in this Rom that will not work for you, I think.
Been using it for a few hours and no Problems popped up!
Set up with
opengapps (Mini), Magisk from OP and Pixel2 Experience Module.
Battery seems to be good for now, all Basics like WhatsApp, GMail, Messenger, Maps (GPS), Spotify with Bluetooth Car Audio (excellent sound), Mi Band 1s do work. And it has March Security Patch.
Of course it's just a few hours but till now, it's just awesome!

[FIX][SafetyNet] Passing SafetyNet in Treble ROMs

I've finally figured this out!
This is a scientific breakthrough! Not really... lol
So, I've managed to make SafetyNet pass using a "custom" Magisk build.
I grabbed it from here and so far I've flashed this build and it coaxed SafetyNet into passing. On one treble ROM, ToxycOS, it completely made SafetyNet pass, both ctsProfile and basicIntegrity. On RR official though, it only made basicIntegrity pass. However, that's completely better than nothing at all!
This is how I got SafetyNet to pass completely, it only works if basicIntegrity is passing while ctsProfile if failing.
•Magisk builds: https://github.com/ianmacd/MagiskBuilds
•Magisk I flashed that got SafetyNet to pass: https://github.com/ianmacd/MagiskBuilds/blob/master/Magisk-v16.5-20180621-ianmacd.zip
•Guide to get SafetyNet to pass: https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/issues/116
Thanks to @topjohnwu for making Magisk possible
Big thanks to @ianmacd for making these Magisk builds
Why did I post this?
I posted this because Magisk 16.6 kept on bootlooping for me, no matter what I did. I'm pretty sure it patches the kernel instead of the ramdisk so it causes a bootloop, again, not 100% sure what it's doing, but either way, it's bootlooping for me. These builds *hopefully* don't bootloop. I flashed 16.5 and it's working great.

yo you can always change the device's fingerprint in order to make safetynet pass using a magisk module

It works on BDN-L34
I passed the test successfully following this guide.
I used a Huawei Mate SE (BND-L34) running phusson's [AOSP 8.1 - Phh-Treble] v22. Then downloaded iammacd'smagisk build that the op provided and zip flashed it through TWRP. Then logged on android and uninstalled the magisk manager app (which was an older version) and then downloaded the newest one available and installed it as an apk. After that I opened the app and went to "downloads" and looked for MagiskHide Props, installed the module and rebooted phone. Then as the op did, I followed cawilliamson's instructions on how to set up MagiskHide Props the only difference being that I set up the fingerprint using Huawei mate 9 since Honor 7x were not listed.
I was running and failing at different points the SafetyNet test until I completed the process. Thats it, thanks to crayonicle for research and compiling such great information and to the other people that made it possible. :good:

It seems to be. You can always try and test it yourself.

BTW ive just updated to the "MagiskManager-v16.8-2018071902" which is ianmacd's lastest build posted and (first of all isnt bootlooping) and is also passing all of the SafetyNet tests. Also installed the lastest version of the Magisk Manager app 5.8.3 (129) successfully. Not sure if is helpful to report that but since it boot-looped me when I tried to update it last time, so now I consider it an achievement lol. I first uninstalled magisk manager through android uninstall (not the magisk uninstall, which unroots you and delete modules) then installed the new version manually.

I am no expert but what ROM are you running? I used to have RRO v6 and the boot loping happened to me when I updated magisk to lastest version through the app. Try flashing the older magisk you had before?
If not I think you will have to go back to stock which is what I had to do when that happened to me. I used a stock oreo zip rom for my device (BND-L34) and this guide now since you have the MATE 9 I dont know what the procedures and files needed for that one.
Using a BDN-L34 (Mate SE)
Back to report that I successfully flashed [8.1.0][TREBLE] Pixel Experience [AOSP][r36][2018/07/14] by jhenrique09 (8.1.0-20180714-0200-OFFICIAL) and sucessfully installed the last Magisk version (and app) and passed all the tests (even better it help me bypass the "google uncertified device" messages i was getting). To pass the SafetyNet I downloaded the MagiskHide on the Magisk app "Downloads" then ran a terminal emulator with the following commands.
Code:
su
props
Then only needed to set the fingerprint by doing:
1 > F > * > ** > Y > Y (This last option will make the device reboot, needed to pass SafetyNet, but you can reboot later by writing N)
*Note that you need to select your phones brand in the options given there.
**Select your phone model (or any other model with the same fingerprint reader or compatibility, guess you can try out different models and check if any works, at your own risk though, I dont know if there could be grave repercussions.)

You dont exactly need to select your device model. I followed this guide using an Honor 7x. Worked well.

Yeah I selected honor 9 for my Mate SE, I just mentioned that since I dont know how serious would it be the implications of selecting a totally different model for another phone but yeah just didn't wanted to tell people to select whatever and then suddenly their fingerprint isn't working or something like that haha. Btw i used the same guide you provided the first time i did everything he pointed but then realized that only the first step was enough so only did that.

I'm afraid that this fix might be for Huawei only (no proof yet), maybe perhaps you can try with a similar moto phone?

Viper4Android working on 7T Pro?

As the title says, has anyone managed to get it to work?
I've tried various methods suggested elsewhere and on the Pixel 4XL forum which involved using the Audio Compatibility and Audio Modification Libs, but none of them has worked. Always ends up booting to the Fastboot screen and that is it.
Have to use ADB to remove the modules to get the phone to boot again.
People seem to have managed to get it to work on the Pixel 4 which also comes with android 10 out of the box, so I would have though it should work on the 7T and 7T Pro.
Has anyone got a method to make it work?
If not, has anyone managed to get JamesDSP to work?
Thanks
I'm in the same boat. Phone stuck at bootloader unlocked warning when I install the driver. I've tried the normal, legacy, xhifi and rootless and nothing works.
Starting to think something it's something with oxygenOS...

Thanks for your reply.
I thought the same, but there are people on the OP7 Pro on OOS 10 that have got it to work.
So i thought maybe its just devices that ship with Android 10 out of the box with the new partitioning etc, but Pixel 4 XL users seem to have to got it to work (using some workarounds).
So to me it looks like it is only Oneplus devices that ship with OOS 10 out of the box. OP7T seems to be in the same boat.
If I'd known this was going to be a problem I would have ordered the OP7 Pro instead. Too late now though.
Hopefully someone will figure this out. Viper is the only reason I root.
Thanks
I've replied to main Viper thread to see if anyone has any ideas

I think we have to wait until developers to properly update the app. Until then, not much to do until then.

By following the below advice on the main Viper thread:-
============================
Remove service.sh (v4a 2.3.x) or post-fs-data.sh (newer ver.) from /data/adb/modules/(v4a folder) if it's stuck at Bootlogo
============================
I have now got past the stuck at fastboot screen after installing the driver. The driver says it is installed but will not process.
Perhaps I need to make it a system app, or maybe install the rootless version of the driver.

Yep, I followed to this.
My viper says abnormal status and is not processing, installing the rootless version did nothing for me unfortunately.

Got it working
After days of trying numerous different ways I've finally managed to get Viper to work my Oneplus 7T Pro
First I removed the any previous Viper module in Magisk and rebooted.
I then uninstalled the Viper App and rebooted again.
So I then had a clean starting point.
I installed The SELinux Switch app from XDA to set SELinux mode to Permissive:-
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-selinux-switch-t3656502
I turned off Google Play Protect.
I then installed the version 2.7.1.0 module in Magisk.
Installed driver and it rebooted.
Stuck at Fastboot screen.
Reboot to Recovery
I then did the following in adb to delete the post-fs-data.sh file which is the file that stops the phone booting.
1) adb shell
2)cd to /data/adb/modules/ViPER4AndroidFX
3)rm post-fs-data.sh
4)exit
reboot to Fastboot and then Start
Then it just worked.
After a subsequent reboot I has to try a few things to get it to work again. e.g. close Viper and music app and then open SELinux Switch and then start Viper again.
After a 2nd reboot it just seemed to work.
I think it might be a timing thing where you have to wait for SELinux Switch to get granted Root before trying Viper.
Anyway I'm a very happy chappy.
Hopefully this will help others get it working.
Finally, got it working with your method!
Will be listening to lots of music tonight, thanks!

Thanks, now you confirmed that it works as well, then I will create a Guide post and link it in the 7T forum and the main Viper thread.

I don't think this works for the 7T because you need a modded stock recovery with adb in order to remove post-fs-data file. Which I think you should also mention in the guide,
