Frequently Asked Questions
It won't boot OMFG!!!
Try this if you're having trouble booting.
I wanna use OpenGAPPS or some obscure Google Apps. How do i?
You don't. Oreo has more security in /system/priv-app and adding apks that don't come with the zip don't get installed. It may not always be like that, but for now, it is what it is y0
You have too many gapps in your crappy ROM!
I try to provide the least amount possible for the setup I like. If you want to know what comes with the ROM browse my repo and look in app and priv-app
I flashed the ROM, then Google Apps and then vendor. Why does it bootloop? Is that the right order?
Please read the flashing instructions. Benzo comes with everything you need including the vendor image.
I'll add more as time goes on and the same questions keep getting asked

Holy poop on a stick! Loved your stuff on the ole Shamu machine. Can't wait to give this a whirl. Thanks man!

Hey this is great! Thank you. Since this comes with a pre-built vendor image, does it have the December security update? And also what size gapps are included? And does root need to be flashed, and if so, does it need to be either magisk or [email protected] Sorry if I overlooked this in op...

any love for sailfish?:silly:

December security update? There's only one release of 8.1 and it's December. It has all the security updates as the official builds. There is no size of gapps included, it has the gapps from the stock ROM minus a few like Chrome. Here is my gapps repo so you can see what apps it has. As for root it doesn't need to be flashed unless you want it.

Reason I asked about security update is awhile back there was a hacked vendor that worked for flashing Oreo rom, but it was like a 7.1.2 modified vendor to get it to boot on the pixel. Was just curious since vendor is included. Thanks for your fast response.

Absolutely awesome man!! Been running your stuff for a while on angler. Really excited to see Benzo on marlin. Thanks for everything!

What a nice surprise. Will try out right now.

Benzo Rom 8.1.0 20171226-0625 - First Build
With this first build please don't report any problems unless they are big problems. This build also has rootless OMS working in it with font support. You will probably have to reboot once after the initial flashing before OMS will work right. No need to flash anything except the zip as it comes with Google Apps and a prebuilt vendor image.
Download: Benzo Rom 20171226-0625
Note: I had to be on TWRP 3.2.0 to be able to flash. I get an error on 3.2.1. So most likely you'll have to be on it too.

How u get it to boot properly

how are you guys going back to 3.2.0 TWRP? when i flash the zip i can't decrypt data anymore (only works on 3.2.1).
EDIT: nevermind, you can just remove the PIN and it won't auto decrypt

The extended power menu wont boot to Recovery or to Bootloader, FYI

TWRP 3.2.0 WONT decrypt, you gotta remove password everytime and you also have to fastboot boot 3.2.0 everytime it seems. Also tried rooting with Magisk 14.6, no luck, so i rooted with SuperSu without issue.
---------- Post added at 05:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:29 PM ----------
For those having problems getting it to boot, i did the following :
1)I started with a fresh flash of Official 8.1.0.
2)Fastboot flash boot --slot all boot.img (8.1.0 boot.img)
3)Fastboot boot twrp320.img
4)make sure your on slot A
5)flash twrp 3.2.0 via TWRP
6)Flash Benzo Rom
7)Flash twrp 3.2.0 again
8)Reboot System
I tried Magisk 14.6 to root and it through an error so i rooted with SuperSU.
Alos, i couldnt boot in recovery from Bootloader at all, whatsoever. Every time i wanna go into TWRP, i need to fastboot boot it, not sure why, i am reflashing after flashing Benzo ROM.
Good Luck!
And again, the only problem i found is the extended power menu wont boot into Recovery, which could have something to do with what i mentioned above, but that has nothing to do with NOT being able to boot into Bootloader...

If I power device off and boot into boot loader I can boot into recovery thru that but I can not get device to root yes I'm in slot a I flash SuperSU but it doesn't detect on reboot

Working fine now was able to gain root access with correct version of SuperSU but cannot update binaries for some reason keep getting google is stopping for some reason. For power menu turn phone off and boot into bootloader using hardware buttons then boot into twrp also u can use root essentials thanks dev ROM is awesome otherwise

Flashed and booted great for me. Are you able to include Google Backup? With Stock it even backs up sms

This is fantastic! Does Magisk work with this rom? Based on what im seeing 2 posts above me...its a maybe.

Moto X4 is getting some custom rom love, because @erfanoabdi worked in BEAST mode and created the trees for this device, even though he does not own the device.
A big thanks too @munchy_cool that organized and build the Lineage 15.1, CarbonROM 6.1 and Resurrection Remix v6.1.
I will help then to maintain the RR build and try to get nearly as possible from fixes in Lineage.
Obligatory Warning: This guide and ROM assumes you know the fundamentals of fastboot, flashing TWRP, and running a flash all. Your warranty is voided because of the unlocked bootloader. This is a Third Party ROM. Things may not work as expected compared to stock (for better or for worse).

Warning 2: If you can't do fastboot commands, do a flash all, root your device or flash TWRP/ROM, please do not ask for help here. If you cannot flash all back to stock, please stay stock for everyone's sake.
Warning 3: if you don't flash the firmware zip so both slots have the firmware, when you boot after flashing, you WILL have a bootloop or even a brick.
Warning 4 : This is an Engineering build, which means it's pre rooted and all apps have access to root. Only the SU binary is missing.
Warning 5 : Kernel is permissive.
This is an initial release and it WILL have bugs. If your phone is a daily, and you cannot afford downtime or random reboots then please do not flash.
I am new to this, DO NOT expect fixes on the fly. Post logcats and I will see what I can do.

How to Boot into fastboot/bootloader mode
1. Reboot phone, and keep volume down pressed while device is rebooting until you see bootloader mode screen.
2. While phone is off, press volume down and then press power button. Keep holding both until you see bootloader mode screen.
How to Install
Video is for LineageOS, but process is same for RR ROM as well.
Video
Moto X4 A/B Slots Explained
Steps
1. Download the ROM, TWRP (zip and Image), Gapps (optional) from Downloads section. Place TWRP image zip in same folder as where you have fastboot.
2. Prepare your phone for AOSP style ROMs. (download one of the firmwares depending on your model). Boot into bootloader mode.
Flash the firmware with the flash_all.bat (Windows) file or the flash_all.sh (Linux & Mac) (See links on Post #2).
Windows
Code:
flash_all.bat
Mac/Linux
Code:
./flash_all.sh
Tested only on XT1900-1 on Android 8.0 model for now. Feel free to try on other models. Check for any errors in the process, DO NOT proceed if you have any errors. Once flashed successfully, reboot into Android to make sure all is well.
Windows
Code:
fastboot reboot
Mac/Linux
Code:
./fastboot reboot
3. Wipe internal data. Reboot back into bootloader mode and run the command "fastboot -w" (this will erase EVERYTHING from your phone, even internal SD, but is needed to have these ROMs work). Make sure to remove your external sdcard before doing this. Once done, REBOOT into Android to make sure all is well. Skip all the setups.
Windows
Code:
fastboot -w
Mac/Linux
Code:
./fastboot -w
4. Transfer ROM zip and TWRP zip to internal memory of device. Reboot device into bootloader mode.
5. Boot to TWRP using fastboot. Using command prompt/terminal navigate to folder where fastboot is.
Windows
Code:
fastboot boot twrp-3.2.1-1-payton.img
Mac/Linux
Code:
./fastboot boot twrp-3.2.1-1-payton.img
5. Once booted into TWRP, click on Install - and select TWRP zip transferred in Step 1. Once done, Reboot back into system to check all is well.
6. Boot into TWRP again (reboot device, keep volume down pressed while device is rebooting. When you see bootloader mode, let go of volume down. Press volume up until you see recovery mode, press power button to select. Now you will boot into TWRP recovery).
8. Once in TWRP. Go to Wipe and swipe to factory reset. Go back, select Install and select Linage OS Rom zip, also add the TWRP zip file and click on install. Once done, wipe cache/dalvik.
Do note, recovery is built into kernel with our device so flashing any rom or kernel will result in TWRP being overwritten. DO NOT flash Magisk (any root package) or Gapps. Once ROM (and optional TWRP) have flash successfully, go to main menu :-
Now you have two options. If you WANT gapps do step 9. else go to 10. If you install gapps after booting into rom, gapps will crash. So, make your choice now.
9. Go back to TWRP main menu. Click on reboot, note down the slot you are on and select recovery.
You will now boot back into TWRP recovery. Click on reboot, and you should be on the other slot. Go back to main menu, transfer the gapps package to internal memory and install gapps.
10. Go back to TWRP main menu. click on reboot and select bootloader.
11. Once in bootloader mode. issue below command.
Windows
Code:
fastboot -w
Mac/Linux
Code:
./fastboot -w
Once done, reboot.
Windows
Code:
fastboot reboot
Mac/Linux
Code:
./fastboot reboot
11. To ROOT, booting into Android once is necessary whether you want gapps or not. After booting into Android once reboot back into TWRP, and then flash your root package zip, reboot and enjoy.
How to Update
Transfer rom, gapps and twrp zip to internal storage.
Boot to TWRP.
flash Rom + TWRP zip
Boot back to TWRP recovery
Flash GApps
Wipe Cache + Dalvik
Reboot to System
Coming from Another custom ROM, have already flashed firmware zip
Transfer rom, gapps and twrp zip to internal storage.
Boot to TWRP.
Wipe -> Swipe to factory reset
flash Rom + TWRP zip
Boot back to TWRP recovery
Flash GApps
Wipe Cache + Dalvik
Reboot to System

While we have no issues with people using supersu/magisk/xposed/custom kernels/etc, we can't provide support for users who have them installed.
This thread is not the right place to discuss about mods/addons.
Reporting Bugs :
DO NOT Report bugs if you installed Xposed.
DO NOT Report bugs about Magisk Modules.
Grab a logcat right after the problem has occurred. (Please include at least a few pages of the log, not just the last few lines, unless you know what you're doing.)
If it is a random reboot, grab /sys/fs/pstore/console-ramoops and /sys/fs/pstore/dmesg-ramoops-0. (Do not bother getting a logcat unless you can get it just before the reboot. A logcat after a reboot is useless)

The Rom is awesome. After I also deleted the internal memory, it runs perfectly. Unfortunately, you can not move the brightness slider in the status bar up. I've really searched everything and unfortunately it does not work. Otherwise this rome is almost perfect now add the second camera lens and I'm happy.

not sure if 3.5mm to type c adapters are supported.
Just got this installed and set up. Running well, no little issues like I had with Lineage. Everything seems to work out of the box. I also like the extra customizations available in setting. Will update as I use it today as I've spent most of my time getting all my apps and settings set up again.

any issues with Lineage could be bugs in Lineage OS. make sure to report them with logcat in the lineage thread.
all moto x4 roms released so far same trees, except for the base rom.

Some of the issues were due to a wonky first flash that resolved after a full run through of the set up again. The other ones seems to be inherent to Lineage, like notification issues, google dialer not showing call screen, etc. but I was able to solve those from other threads when I searched. Other than those, it was good as a daily driver.

Listed in the OP as not working. I think it is only available in the retail version.
There's only one little issue that is bugging me.. And that is low in call volume! Is anyone else facing this issue on this rom? Or is it device based?
work in x1900-4? Has anyone tried it?
I'm on the fence looking at these new custom ROMs available for our X4, so please help me clarify a few points:
1) does Lineage have the option to set navigation bar height? If I'll take the plunge I'm interested in having a navigation bar narrower than Android' standard;
2) is it possible to tweak the kernel with Kernel Adiutor or something similar?
3) is it possible to install and use Moto Display in some way?
Thanks!
P.S. Plese bear with me as I'm asking the same questions all over the three custom ROMs threads.
please welcome your new RR (unofficial builds) maintainer - @filipepferraz

Does the rom come updated with dual camera support??
Or after flashing rom we need to update it

Some of the issues were due to a wonky first flash that resolved after a full run through of the set up again. The other ones seems to be inherent to Lineage, like notification issues, google dialer not showing call screen, etc. but I was able to solve those from other threads when I searched. Other than those, it was good as a daily driver.

I don't have volte in my country, so don't know if it's working. But cellular service and wifi call is working. I'm using as primary phone.

The latest version already includes the dual camera support for Moto Camera or Lineage Snap (included in ROM).

FAQ:
Before using the ROM:
Q. Can I have an ETA for the next build?
A. Yes, just look in the OP to see if your device is built on a nightly or weekly schedule.
Q. Does this ROM support custom kernels?
A. No. You can still use them, but discussion should go in the thread of the respective kernel. We don't offer support for bugs you might encounter while using them!
Q. Why doesn't this ROM support Xposed?
A. Xposed is a hack that is geared towards AOSP, custom ROM's modify the framework a lot, so Xposed can cause a ton of issues on custom ROM's. Now it might work for you, however it is not to be discussed in this thread, and you should refrain from posting bug reports.
Q. Alright, but I still want to flash Xposed, so which version do I need to install?
A. You will need to use the version arm64/arm/whatever for SDK 27.
Flashing the ROM:
Q. What do I need to know before flashing?
A. Check the install instructions in the first post...
Q. Can the builds be dirty flashed over each other?
A. Yes, however make a nandroid backup first as there is a chance of getting a bootloop or encountering bugs. Also bugs may only be reported on a clean flash.
Q. How do I dirty flash builds?
A. Wipe the System, Cache and ART/Dalvik cache. Flash the ROM, GApps (only needed if you wipe the system), your preferred root solution and reboot. Or just use the OTA app to preform that task for you.
Q. How do I flash kernel builds?
A1. If it's a .img file, boot into TWRP and go to the install page in TWRP, in the bottom right corner select "install image", select the desired kernel, then select "boot", then swipe to flash, then go back to the install screen and install your root method again, if you don't want to loose root and reboot.
A2. If it's a flashable ZIP, you can flash it together with a ROM update or separately. Go to the install page in TWRP, choose the kernel zip (or add it to the flash queue right after the ROM zip). Then add your root method to the queue if you don't want to loose root. Now swipe to flash, and then reboot.
Using the ROM:
Q. I installed a bad theme and now I'm getting a bootloop, how do I fix it?
A. In TWRP, flash the substratum rescue zip that's in the substratum folder on the internal storage.
Q. Do I need to provide a logcat if I'm reporting a bug?
A. If you want it to be fixed faster (or at all) then yes, you should definitely provide a logcat. (Note: Please just link the logcat from your GDrive, Dropbox, etc. and do not post the content here. Thanks.
Q. How do I get a logcat, what type should I get and more questions that can conveniently be answered by my pre-determined answer?
A1. Read this thoroughly. Also, here's a good app for getting logs: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tortel.syslog (Root needed).
The ROM should contain everything you need to enjoy Android. You don't need to install any Add-on's, simply download the latest ROM, GApps, flash it and go!
If you want the device to run the ROM "rooted", you can flash a root solution of your choice after the ROM Zipfile.
It is STRONGLY recommended to fully wipe your device before flashing and please avoid restoring system apps and system data with Titanium Backup as this can cause stability issues that are very hard to debug.
If you believe you know what you're doing - then fine, go ahead, but please don't complain if you experience any strange behavior.
- Backup your personal data (Important)
- Download the ROM and GApps and transfer them to your device.
- Boot to recovery (TWRP recommended).
- Wipe the System, Cache, Data and ART/Dalvik cache.
- Flash the ROM + Gapps Zipfile.
- Flash the root solution of your choice (optional).
- Reboot your device.
The ROM has GApps persistence in between dirty flashes, so you only have to flash them once!
The root solution should be flashed together with every update (= ROM Update)
Currently Supported Root Solutions:
Magisk stable
Magisk versions higher than 14.0 doesn't require flash on every dirty flash depending on the device, some devices need you to flash it every time, unless your maintainer says otherwise it should be fine

Hi.
Stock or gcam?
In any case try this.
https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/gcamera/MGC_6.1.021_BSG_Arnova-based_v.1.4a_TlnNeun.apk
If you have pink tint?
More > Settings > "advanced" under Quick Settings section > Fix > Fix old WB gains
If you have green selfie camera?
Set front camera model to Nexus 6P
If that doesn't work?
More > Settings > "advanced" under Quick Settings section > Fix > Fix front camera
Here's also a good gcam_config that also helps remove the tint issues if the above fixes don't work
https://t.me/x2_devel/269360
Here's how to load configs
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/settings09/
Above nothing works?Your autofocus is broken.
Try toggling autofocus fix in Setting>About phone>Leeco
Otherwise replace camera module.
I don't have lte, trying to fix that, but otherwise... Very good rom! Good job!
EDIT:everything seems to be good.

Some bugs I've found.
Hands free doesn't work. Even with eui audio flashed, random reboots, sometimes when I'm in call the speaker goes crazy and then the phone reboots. Call sound quality close to average for some reason... And I have flashed firmware 30s

If your Device rebooted to recovery/fast-boot mod or getting bootloop,
You need Format userdata first (Mandatory) Here is How ? Backup all your internal data first, (Don't blame me you'll lost everything), Go to recovery, Select wipe,Select format data,Type "yes" ( Without quotes),Swipe. You're decrpted now, Now Flash ROM.
Encryption:: Not tested.
After Flashing ROM if getting app/settings FCs:: First Describe your procedure of flashing,Please Provide logs if you're getting issue.
Don't report any issue without logs:: How to take logs ? Ask to you're friend................GOOGLE
Feature request:: It's beta build so We'll add features step by step
Kernel:: You can flash any custom kernel what you want, but I'm not going to add, also don't report any issue if you have flashed any custom kernel.
Better battery life:: It's depend on user pattern, Either you can get better battery cost of performance or better performance cost of battery.
Firmware:: Always flash firmware that has been recommended

I have no issue to apply any custom style. can't say anything about that, You can see video HERE
The rom is looking good. So far the let down is the camera. Is there any alternatives for the camera... Not to be rude but the camera quality is bad.

Weird. Did you flash the latest firmware. What happened to me was, i was on a OOS beta build and nothing was helping. So i flashed the lastest stable OOS build and then flashed a custom ROM with proper data formatting, and it worked.

You need to be on OOS Stable, not BETA. Took forever for me to understand this. I followed these steps:
1. Flashed OOS STABLE after a clean format (Not just advanced Wipe).
2. Made sure it was up to date before flashing TWRP again.
3. Did the Advanced Wipe and then the other one where you have to type YES.
4. Flashed a custom ROM which worked then, no more bootloops.

Guys, in the future just use the 60mb firmware zips to update. There's no need to flash the entire stock OOS to update firmware. They can be found in the link below.

Instructions :
SECURITY ADVICE
Don't flash ROMs or Magisk modules which set SELinux to permissive or you welcome malware on your device!
Install Latest Firmware
Grab the Sony Stock firmware using e.g. XPeriFrim. You should always flash the firmware matching the LOS build.
Grab newflasher and put it in the same folder as the firmware files.
Read the newflasher original post on XDA for general instructions!
Remove the following from the folder so they won't get flashed:
all *.ta files (keep the one in the boot/ directory)
Turn off your phone
Hold the volume down button and attach it via USB to your system till you see LED turning green
Run newflasher from within this directory to flash the remaining files
Skip the second optional step (dumping of trim area), it's useless if your bootloader is unlocked already and takes a long time.
Hit Yes for all the next questions asked in Newflasher(Only dumpin of trim area should be selected no and rest all questions should be selected as yes.
Once Newflasher flashes the Stock rom, boot into it and make sure volte is available.(VOLTE WILL NOT WORK ON BLISS IF YOU DO NOT HAVE IT IN STOCK ROM.
Incase you are not able to see volte icon in stock either your carrier does not support it or there is an issue with the stock rom(Try flashing it again).
Once you confirm Volte is available in stock, Flash the TWRP recovery and follow below instructions carefully.
Boot into recovery >> Format Data >> Power off the Phone.
Again boot into recovery >> Format Data >> Power off the Phone.
This time boot into recovery >> Wipe Internal Storage.
Flash ROM, Gapps, Magisk.
In the setup wizard select SIM 1 as the default sim for calls data and message.
Once Boot is complete, wait patiently for few mins.
Voilllaa you should have volte and dual sim both enabled.
Google Apps
You can download and install the Google Apps from opengapps.org. You need ARM64 and 10.x. I suggest to *always* use the pico or nano package. If you need additional apps you find them in the Play Store.
MicroG
This ROM does support Signature Spoofing. However we are watching MicroG and check if they provide newer builds e.g. for Android Pie.

Apologies for this dumb question, I'm very new to this and I really want to try this Rom. How can I tell if my downloaded firmware is matched with the LOS build?

If don't know what it's it, then please inform yourself, you will may loose guarantee if you unlock bootloader.
Please take into account that I am far from being a professional adviser.
Unlocking the bootloader means loosing the TA partition which contains some keys from the producer, every device has it's own dev keys.
Without them, the camera, for example, won't have the same performance with stock firmware. Or you won't be able to turn on advanced features for video playing.
They can be restored if you've backed them up.
I didn't backed them up but I don't miss stock that much.

Oh I see. Thank you very much for your patience. I'll ask google how to. One more thing, are you using this ROM for your daily driver? If so, what is the model of your phone? Mine is G8342. I'm sorry for asking too much.
Update: working, my download was corrupted

Is my second phone but I use it daily.
This Rom is stable, very stable, it seems that everything works, at least everything important. On the other hand you can find minor bugs on stock firmwares. Device G8341
To install in short
Unlock bootloader, see Sony site
Install the stock firmware with new flasher, using computer, see YouTube
Install twrp for poplar by computer, see xda posts, twrp helps you install custom ROMs and other programs for root, 3.3.0 and 3.4.0 (or something like that) are the latest versions, any of them is good.
Install Rom by entering twrp, see first post.
DO NOT SKIP ANY STEP from these guides above.
Once you will install a few custom ROMs you will know when you can do that
