Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this Android 7 (Nougat)?
A: Yes, this is Android 7.1.2
Q: What code is Oct-N based on?
A: This version of Oct-N is based on LineageOS 14.1
Q: Why isn't there XYZ feature?
A: Shoot us a Suggestion if you want to see something added. While we are not going to promise to implement, we will always look into it
Q: But all the others have..
A: ROM developers, build something they want to use. The ROM developer that includes something they won't run implies less than 100% effort to ensure it does work. As a team, we have similar goals and objectives. If XYZ ROM has a feature you want, and we don't include (or don't want to include), feel free to use XYZ ROM, or build your own custom version of Oct-N.
Q: What about root?
A: Root is removed by default (user will be able to flash which ever root zip they want)
Bugs:
Bugs happen. Our testers are very good at breaking things, but no where near as good as the rest of the Android public. In order to investigate and fix issues, we need the help of the users who are going to report them. The Android OS has many nifty features to help us in this, but only if we can engage the user to assist us.
Logs, Logcat, and the Android Debugging Bridge (ADB)
Like any other OS, Android has multiple log files that are generated and record the goings-on of the system. As a user, you have two basic ways to view and pull these to send to us. Without the information in the logfiles, there simply is not a whole lot of information to go on.
Log file APKs
Team OctOs recommends SysLog from the Android Market. This application will allow you to selectively pick any (or all) of the system logs, compress them into a .ZIP file, and allow you to save, email, move to your Copy/DropBox/Cloud Storage account, etc.
ADB Logcat
The Android Debugging Bridge (ADB) is a powerful tool available from Google as part of the Android Software Development Kit (SDK). Used for many things, being able to selectively see, in real-time, what your device is doing cannot be downplayed. While there is more setup involved, if you are doing consistent ROM flashing, you really should invest the time to get setup properly to do it.
ADB Logcat tutorial here: How to create a logcat log
Basic Instructions:
Download ROM .zip file and MD5 file, and grab your favorite Open Gapps package http://opengapps.org
Reboot to Recovery (Note: Use Reboot to Recovery from Power Menu, Hardware-based boot to recovery, or adb reboot recovery - ROM Manager or similar software is NOT supported)
--- TWRP is the ONLY recovery Team OctOs uses - We do not support flashing on CWM ---
The Oct-N ROM installation script will automatically wipe /system, /cache, and /dalvik-cache. There is no need to do these before or after flashing the ROM unless you are instructed to by your Gapps Provider. When dirty flashing weekly updates, you MUST reflash Gapps along with any other files, apps, custom mods or kernels etc.. (anything that resides in system partition)
Flash ROM, GApps and any additional .ZIP files
Reboot

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this Android 6 (Marshmallow)?
A: Yes, this is Android 6.0.1
Q: What code is Oct-M based on?
A: Starting with Oct-L, we've rebased OctOs on the CyanogenMod 12 code. Oct-M is based on CyanogenMod 13.
Q: What happened to AOSP?
A: All Android code is based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Under previous releases, we tried very hard to limit the number of "Not from Google directly" repositories that we used. Unfortunately, issues with devices, the need for Code Aurora Foundation (CAF) repositories for Qualcomm devices, and compatibility issues meant fighting code more often than not. We decided that since the code-base for many repositories were the same across most ROMs, picking a starting point to build the user experience on outweighed the desire to craft code from scratch, or fix broken code to make it work with other changes we already had.
Q: Why isn't there XYZ feature?
A: Shoot us a Suggestion if you want to see something added. While we are not going to promise to implement, we will always look into it
Q: But XYZ and all the others have..
A: ROM developers build something they want to use. The ROM developer that includes something they won't run implies less than 100% effort to ensure it does work. As a team, we have similar goals and objectives. If XYZ ROM has a feature you want, and we don't include (or don't want to include), feel free to use XYZ ROM, or build your own custom version of Oct-M.
Q: Superuser or SuperSU?
A: Team OctOs uses SuperSU and is installed automatically.

On Moto X xt1052 flashed via cm recovery 12.1 :
- Flashlight ok, works both from panel and gesture.
- Rotation ok, works well.
- On other 6.0.1 roms there was this battery charge bug: device off, charging, screen would stay always on and not show battery percent. Now on Oct-M this bug is solved: charges normally when device off and shows battery %.
- Doze. I guess i should calibrate the battery and leave the rom to settle on my terminal to work well, because overnight it burned like 20% of the battery in standby. No wakelocks detected. Gonna inspect this in these days.
Thanks again Team OctOS,
Great Rom
Great job!

Reboot

It all depends how you use your device and what you are using. Saying that, I find it to be very battery friendly.
Not sure about that. May battery is 5 years old and most of the time i'm connected to charger but besides that, it depends on your use.

I find it quite fast, but battery is probably not as good as Marshmallow roms.
I am using it since a couple of week. For my usage I found it a bit worse than MM. What I lack is theming, I'd like an all black interface.

Yes! its an issue from lineage os i am trying to find a workaround
I am on latest build, very smooth n stable ROM. Very strong signal strength. Thanks to the devs. Below are few minor issues.
1. Missing option to disable hardware keys.
2. Kcal capable kernel.
3. DT2W, as already pointed out.

Thanks Hardware keys disabler will be fully functional in upcoming weekly , DT2W i am working on it :good: (There is a Workaround)
Double tap to wake workaround :
1] You need root acess
2] open a root explorer grant it root permissions
3] Navigate to proc/touchpanel
4] Open double_tap (as a text)
5] Replace 0 with 1
And done! DT2W should work now
NOTE : Every reboot you need to enable dt2w manually as mentioned above (for now)
This weeks build has been uploaded on the website . Check the OP for the download link
Happy flashing!
Found one small bug, jump to camera option is not working (see image below). This ROM has the best signal and call quality of ALL the ROMs I have tried (omni, du, citrus, lineage, xos cosmic etc). Its my new daily driver, thumbs up to devs. Please keep the signal quality while adding new features .

same on official latest LOS build.
maybe bug has the same source.
On latest build, disable hw button option is now available. Daily driver material. Everything works!
Edited : D2TW still requires the workaround mentioned earlier. I am on franco kernel though. Not sure if this is a rom issue or kernel.

The ROM came with the phone is supporting volte and I am using the stock one only and u say not compatible
I installaed weekly version 20170610-0021 on my Moto G5 yesterday and so far it runs pretty smoothly.
The only issue I have encountered is that the backside (main) camera is not working properly outside of the standard camera app: In Instagram it straight up doesn't work at all, if I try switching from front to back (front camera works fine), it just shows a black screen and nothing else happens. If I switch back to the front camera everything still works, I didn't encounter any app crashes or anything like that. The problem is similar in Snapchat: front camera works fine, but if I use the backside camera, I can only shoot photos. If I try to record a video, the screen freezes (it shows how much longer I can record but the rest is frozen) and once I release the record button the app freezes again for a short time and I can then edit the photo (wich is probably just the first frame I tried to record)....
But as I said: No other problems so far, everything runs smoothly.
