OREO 8.0 scheduled for February - LG G6 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello,
I contacted LG Customer Service. I had a few questions about my G6 model and the question was about the security patch. They told me that the next update would be realeased by February. I think it's easy to conclude that this will be the Android 8.0 Oreo update.
https://imgur.com/a/kUL5q

You know that Customer Service has no way to know that, right? They're just a bunch of people payed to listen and answer, they have no say or even contact (mostly) with the development team, if not for some important news. Since Oreo is still in beta, they really can't know it for sure (in fact, they weren't sure).
My advice is to let it go and wait for some ufficial statement or, well, for the update.

Will Sprint overlook G3 for OTA Marshmellow update?

With other carriers already prepping/pushing out Android 6.0 to the G3, I still have seen nothing from Sprint on Android 6.0 for the G3. I did hear the G4 will get 6.0 soon, however.... will Sprint be ignoring the G3 for the Android 6.0 updated ROM in favor of selling more G5 units on launch?
Not really a Q&A thread, I just wanted everyone's insight and opinions on the matter. I run into this issue with Sprint specifically when it comes to OTA updates....
Not really interested in custom ROMs at this point, FYI, so a heads up before you think about posting links for me here
G4 already has 6.0. I'm fairly sure we will get it but who knows when. For whatever it's worth here's an email response I received when I asked about Marshmallow.

Only Verizon has released 6.0 on the G3 so far. Give it more time. Sprint is probably having issues with the wifi calling or something.
My gf has the g4 on T-Mobile & just got the marshmallow update. I've read various places that the g3 for all the major carriers will get it eventually. Sprint is generally the slowest out of them all to roll out updates. So to answer your question, yes we'll get it but who knows when.

It is usually AT&T who is the last. I got lollipop on my work AT&T G3 6 months after the other 3 carriers had it. T-Mobile is not listing Marshmallow on their site yet. This is last week's article showing updates: https://www.androidpit.com/lg-g3-android-update
The Sprint G4 was updated to Marshmellow back just before Christmas. And has got another update the start of this month. They seem to have not updated their RDF to reflect that. On the G3 front there has also been no action of the RDF :/ I'm hoping they just stopped using that and are doing internal testing we just don't know about but I'm not really hopeful. I'm pretty disappointed in LG and Sprint, I can live without OS goodies but for the love of all give us the monthly security patches.
the LG G Stylo received the OTA around last month on Sprint/Boost then T-Mobile/Metro right after soo.....us on the G3 might get it before T-Mobile again
I think it's safe to say none of the carriers release them fast enough for any of us. T-Mobile might not list it on their site but her phone definitely got the marshmallow update. I can provide a screenshot later when she gets home. Not that any of that matters, as it's not our network or phone.

I would think if T-Mobile got an OTA it would be posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-g3/general by some excited member. T-Mobile community forum is still stating any day and that the update is ready. Maybe your friend's is the first. But until now only Verizon members have posted about receiving MM on the G3. Even international members are asking where is there update. So it seems the hold up was LG.

Talked to Sprint customer service about a week ago. According to them Sprint LG G3 should receive Marshmallow on March 23rd.
Right as N is coming about, the last official update will be M. Hey I still have mine and love it.
Why does everyone loose their minds on updates being pushed OTA !?!?!
If you're rooted 99% of the time you skip the OTA to keep from breaking root AND being rooted you can upgrade at your leisure because there is always a port and CM.
There is already and official CM13 and other 6.0 ROMS so who cares what Sprint does unless you like the bloatware.

Some people want Stock and not an AOSP rom. It has less to deal with OTA, and more to deal with an actual release.

Can confirm, I talked to a rep as well a few days ago and they said that they wouldn't give me an exact date but its due before April 1st.
In my opinion the main reason some users focus on official firmware releases is because cm and aosp camera apps suck. And not in a good way.

Also stock is usually more stable. BareCee has been awesome for me. I've tried other roms but always go back. Would love him to release something based on stock marshmallow when it comes out.
so no one got the OTA? yet

Android n has begun to roll out for everyone

Some Canadian users are really getting it, it's just fact of time that we recive our update, this is the news. http://www.gamenguide.com/articles/...y-experia-x-performance-gets-update-7-1-1.htm
Has anyone gotten ahold of the OTA file yet? I;d love to flash it on my Moto G...
Nothing on T-mobile USA for my XT1625
I read that as the moto in India and the xperia in Canada
Exactly, which isn't new news at all.
Nothing for XT1622 in Finland so far (Telefinland/Sonera).
Seems to be rolling out in India.

I think they got it all wrong. The guy asking the question tweeted with the hashtag AndroidO. So supposedly he meant the next version of Android, the one after Nougat?
And then the Moto-team didn't get it at all either and replied if he meant Android 7 (Nougat)...
And gsmarena happily reports this news and doesn't even mention that. Oh well.
Another G4 waiting. I've bought it recently just because it's one of the cheapest good smartphone with N coming.
it popped up on my phone on the first startup, and i canceled it about 5 hours ago. I was rooting it. it doesn't pop up anymore. I just got my phone this morning from ebay.

If it rolls out in february, it must be 7.1.1. If it's not, it will be a disappointment, seriously, this is a joke.

Android security update?

Is there any word on when the LG G5 will get the monthly android security updates from Google?
I'm on Rogers in Canada, and I haven't seen one since last September.
I'm Latest on November Nougat
Try to update it via lg bridge. I got a security patch from february few days ago. My last one was from september lol

Nope. Nothing newer than November. Google has put out some massive updates lately that are critical security fixes and I'd like them installed. Guess I have to wait for a provider update.
I got an update just this week, it was a security patch and it delivered nothing else.
My battery is still has an incredible drain.
Its an update from February 1th, i recieved it on my H860, SEA version, aka the Singapore version

Lg H850 Uk updates?

I just been given a new Lg G5 H850 Uk sim free from work.
When I first ran the phone I had to do about 4 updates, which is now at Nov 16 and no more updates available?
I have tried over the air and Lg bridge, surely there must be a newer update than this with all the security updates Google has sent out?
My Moto Z was up to March 17 with updates.
Is this what to expect of LG?

Yeah, I had a 1 chat with their web chat support who escalated and had a supervisor call me to say the same thing. I asked if he can assure me that my phone was safe from exploits since Nov2016 till now. He obviously couldn't so he took my IMEI to work out my model (god knows why) and then took my details to find out when the update is coming.
Suffice to say I don't expect any answers this side of the century.

Hi ******,
Thank you for your query regarding your LG G5,
I have spoken with the tech team in the office and they have informed me that since November 2016 there have been no security risks that have required an update so one has not been performed. If the need for an update arises then your phone will be automatically prompted to perform this update.
We tend to release these updates either when neccessary or when a large update has been created.
At this moment in time there is no reason for an update for so one has not been created, if you have questions regarding this please get back in touch.
I hope my email has answered your query and assisted you today; I would really appreciate your feedback! Please help us to improve our customer service by completing the short survey after this email.
after this answer and my experiences with LG phones, i will try an other manufacturer next time!

I think it is quite dishonest of LG to state they are committed to monthly security updates but be almost 6 months behind... for a flagship that was released last year that's out of order.

Canadian LG G6 (H873) to receive the Oreo Update in Early March

Afaik two carrier websites (Fido and Rogers) are mentioning that the Oreo update is coming soon.
I reached out to LG Canada on Twitter and they said that the update is scheduled for March 2 - 9.
UPDATE: Fido now shows "coming in march" for the Oreo update for both our devices and the LG V30.
UPDATE 3/12/18: Fido now shows "coming in April" for the Oreo update for the LG G6 and "coming in March" for the LG V30.
While I'd love to believe so (the sooner the better IMHO), these accounts are usually run by people with no access to such information (i.e the support personnel); time ranges have been wildly inconsistent between groups (some going as far as July or later!) and no one seems to give a solid answer (apart from this tweet). My best hopes are for a release in late Feb-early March. Thanks for the heads-up though-- I'll keep an eye out for those dates!
Has the update happened in Canada yet? Nothing for the European H870 yet...

No. Unfortunately, we're still waiting for the update. Oreo has been released for the V30 in Canada, which is keeping my hopes up.
I think the update will not happen until June, considering the launch of G7 on May.
Until recently, only Fido had the update to 8.0 on their upcoming OS releases page.
Now, Rogers just added it. No specific date, only "coming soon!".

8.1 has a multitouch bug that effects all devices so if anything you should be happy. I'm running it now on my essential phone and it requires a magisk fix to even be useable for games and such.
So it's definitely not march anymore. Fido's update schedule has gone from "Coming in April" to "Coming Soon". Even though it's still wishful thinking, I hope the update does come out this month. It's only a matter of time.
http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/lg-g6-android-oreo-update-3450889
I don't think we'll have to wait too long for the update. It's been two months since March at this point, but better late than never.
Both Rogers and Fido's update schedules still say "Coming Soon."
At least LG Canada confirmed that it's coming soon. "Soon" can mean a plethora of things, but hopefully that means we'll get the update before the end of May.
EDIT: It's been released for the Canadian market, I assume the US market will receive the update very soon!
