Can't sign in Google account due to missing webview apks - Kindle Fire HDX 7" & 8.9" Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hi,
I had the HDX 8.9 Saturn running with the older rooted firmware (4.x). Then I updated to Android 5.1.1 with the help of the other thread here and everything was working immediately after that.
However, I noticed that there were some residues of the old Android 4 installation. Especially a very outdated Android Webview (v.41) was causing issues with some apps I wanted to use. (updating the webview from play store did not work as the old one was a system app and was not "overridden" by the play store app).
So after the upgrade the old webview was still there and the behavior of the 3rd party apps still like before. So I opened up Titanium Backup and removed the old webview as well as an app from Amazon (someting like amazon.webviewkkhelper or similar) with the same version as the outdated Android webview (the "kk" in the name made me think it was a Android 4.4 Kitkat residue).
Now, after a factory reset, however, I cannot sign in my Google account. After entering user/password the screen jumps back to the first screen (choose between login with existing account or new account).
In logcat I can see that apparently the webview is called and not found:
Code:
W/PackageManager( 997): com.amazon.webview.chromium is not installed for user 0
W/PackageManager( 997): com.android.webview is not installed for user 0
I'm not 100% sure that these messages are actually describing whats causing the issue, but they are a strong indicator that the google login wants to access a webview component.
Now, I have sideloaded the most recent webview from APKmirror, but it is called
Code:
com.google.android.webview
and is threfore probably not found / used.
Can anyone help me restore the system webviews that came with the Android 5.1.1 update?
Which versions of it do you guys see in the stock image?
Thank you in advance
Jochen

Assuming you rerooted install the Play Version of webview and then migrate it to the system partition using TB or another tool like Apps2SD. I have seen this both work and fail on Lollipop bases ROMs. Good luck.
Edit: Understand the naming issue; recent Google Play Services builds should look for both.

Thanks @Davey126, that helped. I installed the older webview v60 which was still called com.android.webview and made it a system app.
Then it worked again!
Login failed still but that was a different issue. Had my system further borked by trying to install Google stuff via flashfire... who knows what that did, but it did not work either. However, it prevented the old play store stuff to fail. I manually cleaned it up (hopefully) but at least now I can install the old playstore + gms again again .
Login worked afterwards. Lets see how it goes
Kindle Fire tablet are always a handfull... :silly:

[Q] x10 mini (not rooted) with Android 2.1 will not update market or any apps

I'm using a Sony Ericsson X10 mini (not rooted) that still suffices quite ok. However, after a while it tends to become slow. What I periodically do to make the device again a bit faster is reinstall the original firmware using Sony PC Companion. This re-installs the latest available firmware for the X10 mini, being 2.1-update1 (kernel version 2.1.1.A.0.6).
The last time I reinstalled the firmware I ran into an issue. After the installation I got to work installing a few apps. I noticed that all the apps that I install keep showing up in the market as "Installing", even though they are already installed and working properly. Switching the device off and on doesn't help. Also clearing the cache of Android Market did not resolve this. All these apps remain showing as "installing" in the market app.
I also noticed that the version of Android Market that I currently have is not the version of Android Market that I had before reinstalling the firmware. As far as I know, Google Play is not available on Android 2.1, but I definitely remember that I had a newer version of Android Market installed on Android 2.1 than the one that is installed now. From previous re-installations I remember that the device at some point would mention that Android Market needs to be updated. The same goes for some of the pre-installed apps such as Facebook and Google Maps. However, this time it does not give such a message at all. Opening Android Market also does not trigger any update at all. Also going into the settings and looking for updates does not trigger any update. Is there any way to force android to update the market and the pre-installed apps?
When I open Android Market and look in the "Downloads" section, it shows a list of all the apps that I had installed on the device previously. When I check play.google.com on my PC, it lists the same apps, but they show as "installed" on my phone. Even though I have not installed them yet. And I cannot find any way to remove these apps from the "My Apps" section on play.google.com. Could this be interfering with the android market app on my phone?
Is there any way to trigger Android to update the Android market and the other pre-installed apps? I'm very hesitant to go and root the device, that still appears to me as a lot of work. Especially since I know that it used to work correctly previously.
A small update in case somebody in the future encounters the same problem:
To find out whether it really is my Google account that interferes, I have opened a completely new Gmail account, and used that when setting up the phone after the firmware re-installation. And lo and behold: within a few minutes after the initial setup of the phone, the market application was suddenly replaced with version 2.3.6. No notification whatsoever, it was just suddenly there. I don't know the version number of the old Market app that I had. Somehow, the version numbering that is used in the application manager is different than the "2.3.6" formatting. The version number that is shown in settings>application manager went from 2002009. to 2002306.
Having the updated Market app, I wanted to relink the phone with my normal Gmail account. However, I found that apparently, you can only sync with a different Gmail account by resetting the entire phone, so that I have the original problem again. But at least the fact that the Market app updated itself allowed me to copy the updated market .apk file so that I could manually update the market after reinstalling the firmware. And having installed the new Market app, it also recognized the pre-installed aps such as Google Maps.
It should have been possible to delete your new gmail account in th settings app and add your old one. Failing that, doing a factory reset would have deleted all the user-data but still have kept the updated market-app.

[ROOT][Fix GMS] How to fix Google Play Services 7.0.97 as stopped

- You have problems with the application Google Play Services 7.0.97?...
Google with the latest updates of play services has caused many problems, continuous blocks and excessive consumption of the battery...
I have not found a definitive solution to use version 7.0.97, but I can explain an alternative and provisional...
- What you need?
1. Root
2. Google Play Services .apk version 6.6.03 universal armeabi CPU (I preferred version and stable)
3. File manager with permission root
How to?
1. uninstall the previous version of the Google Play Services
2. install version 6.6.03 (...)
3. create a folder in /Data/app with name com.google.android.gms-2 , permits changes in RW-R-R (this folder blocks the automatic update)
Note:
- Updated from sdcard worked

Great ... until it gets auto-"upgraded" by Google. Since this is not listed as an app in Play, how would one mark to not auto-upgrade. Maybe if it shows on recent upgrades in "my-apps," auto-upgrade can be unchecked from there.
Tasker scripts and/or the "Amplfiy" Xposed module can be used to tame the battery drain, or use an app-permissions that might come with your ROM to take away keep-awake. Will do nothing for the instability, however.
Maybe post a link to the old version.

This looks like for lollipop.
In previous Android, using Link2sd, this would BE the link to the apk.
So what I did try was side-loading 6.6.03. The downgrade installed without a hitch thanks to the xinstall module, link2sd symlinked it, fine.
Then rebooted. Hoped to intercept the expected update and uncheck the Play Services auto-upgrade at that point. Unfortunately, most recent Google App (Search/Now) will not eat 6.6.03 so got com.google.process.gapps stop messages. The Google Now pane offered a click to install Play Services but this did not work.
Attempt to side-load 7.0.86 simply hung so trying to restore 7.0.97 from Titanium which also takes quite a bit of time but should eventually work (hope). So far, not successful, but will get it. Had side-loaded it originally.
is it causing problems on every version of android or only on kitkat ??

Well im on cm9 and i havent got any error so far

Force closing of Google Play Services and connected apps

Hi,
I'm on XtreStoLite 2.4 5.1.1 on my S6 edge for months now. All was working perfectly. Recently, GPS started crashing randomly, but except for the error, services and sync seemed to be working fine. Now ytdy armageddon started and now Google apps connected to GPS (search, keep, music, but not play store for example) will not run and get killed instantly.
What I did based on what ive found:
- deactivated play services, uninstalled updates and restored the account, GPS 9.0.83 (240-121911109)
- wiped cache/dalvik which helped for couple of minutes
appreciate any help!
I've had problems too with the latest play services on LG G4 H815 6.0 v20d. Google Play Services crashes non boot and Google Chrome crash after a few seconds of opening.
Uninstalling updates fixed it but I'm told by many apps that I need the latest version. I didn't wipe cache though.

True, stopped the apps from crashing, but made them unusable, even Inbox which worked just fined on the corrupted (?) version.

Got a fix. Google apps working. No force closes/errors. Root needed to prevent auto-update to latest version.
i) Get to the May 7th (or earlier) Play Services from here: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-services/
Look at the notes at the top to see which version you need arm or 64 ect.
In you're case, it's '240' so arm64 + arm android 5.0+ version. Direct download for you link: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...s-9-0-81-240-121617224-android-apk-download//ii) Enable airplane mode to prevent updates
iii) Then just install the apk on top of your rolled back version. Apks only install if version is newer.
iv) Using a root-enabled file manager like ES File Explorer, open \data\app and create two new, empty folders titled com.google.android.gms-1.apk and com.google.android.gms-2.apk. This tricks Google into causing auto updating of your GPS to fail.
v) Reboot (important)
Optional) Set Google Play Services as a device administrator again under security settings for Device Manager features.
If you get an error during install, then follow this guide to install: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/delete-disable-downgrade-prevent-update-t3091832

Edit: yep. Same here. When I turn internet back on, it updates to latest version. Try installing an older version.
I'll try and find another way to stop auto updates.
Same problem here, uninstalled services by titanium then installed back by apk and flashed open gapps, worked for me
None of those worked for me. Well, I used the opportunity to update XtreStoLite to MM, and problem disappeared, obviously
However, come to think of it, it could have sth to do with Amplify killing processes. Thing is, I didn't manipulate with anything there recently, but after activating xposed module on updated ROM i saw some crashes again. Anyway, I disabled it in any case now, want to see how the battery will last on the updated ROM, but it could be connected

Were you by any chance changing your phones emojis? I was and rebooted and noticed the GPS crash. Undoing emoji changes didn't fit it.

X96 chinese rom and the GAPPS problem, is it possible to make it work?

I am still a green beginner when it comes to making a custom firmware but I basically only do it for my personal needs and offer the result for everyone.
However, there is one thing really nagging me ith the X96 and that is to get updated GAPPS to work properly and with all Google apps.
The basics like Playstore, Framework and Play Services and managed to get going but only by disabling some "features" in the firmware and with the box showing up as uncertified.
Real problem is to get the TV GAPPS working at all.
No matter how I spoof the build.prop, disable services and manully add permissions, the TV Gapps claim be on an unsupported device and demand dowgrade / removal of updates.
For a chinese phone I would simply flash an internation rom and be done with it but not so much on a chinese TV box
What I tried so far for the TV GAPPS:
Using custom roms claiming to work for several boxes including the X96.
Here the rom either fails to boot unless I modify it or if it boots then nothing, and I mean nothing all works.
Funny enough that some user of a X96 say they have no problem with the same rom...
Next was to clean the original firmware from all Google related apps, services, scripts and libraries, then manually installing the TV GAPPS.
For this I always get the error that the device is not compatible.
Even if in the build.prop a Mibox or Nvidia Shield is spoofed together with ro.build.characteristics=tv.
Last but not least the Open GAPPS TV version.
Flashing works just fine and with no errors, on a cleaned and on a standard rom.
After that it is all over.
Setup Wizard crashes, if disabled or removed the other Google apps and services crash, usually starting with the TV Wizard and TV Customisation.
TV Playstore again claims the device is not compatible in the rare case it does start otherwise I get an error that the Play services are missing on the device.
But of course all is installed completely....
What I would love to know is how and where these chinese roms disable the Google compatibility.
Here is what I think I found so far that does not make much sense to me:
The supplied Playstore is signed with different key than anything else on the system partition.
The same version number from APKMIRROR fails to install or work if replaced in the rom.
I tried signing with the Amlogic platform, test and release keys to no avail.
Both by zip aligning before or after the signing.
Other apps I sign with these keys perform just fine.
Just to be able to use the Open GAPPS through TWRP I had to disable a PPoE apk that runs presistent - with that active no open Gapps pack works (claiming device is incompatible or simply crashing).
There are a bunch of additional certificates installed in the ETC folder than when removed or renamed cause the system to fail - I had no time so far to do a one on one check to figure out for what each cert might be used.
When comparing fstabs with other roms it seems the X96 has lot more than what would be required but my understanding of all that is still too limited.
I guess the big question is:
Does anyone know what is causing all these problems in chinese roms and how to fix it without flashing a firmware for different TV box?
Update:
On my X96 I am slowly making progress with the GAPPS.
Found a PPPoE app and service that are set to run persistent.
According to some funny Google translations from chinese websites using persistent services to block genuine Google stuff is one available option.
By disabling the PPPoE persistent stuff and only leaving the normal PPPoE stuff active Ethernet and WiFi still work fine but now the Open Gapps installation actually works.
Well, not fully but at least the Nano package works flawless.
With that it is not problem to install the missing Google apps through the Playstore, including Google TV and Music.
Sync and backup works fine too.
Only downside is that without spoofing the device will be listed as uncertified - but all updates and installs so far went with no problems.
But even the Google NOW and Pixel launchers can be installed and used if someone likes them.
Different story though for the TV Gapps, wether modified or not.
Build.prop mods and fakes, using the latest and older versions of the playservices and framework - they all fail.
I managed a few times to find combinations that at least booted into the leanback launcher and that were usable except for the Google stuff but it was no fun.
No matter how I try to spoof or change the installation the setup wizard never works, which indicates the services fail to work.
In the rare case where I get somewhere I am told that I should unistall all updates as this version of Plastore or services is not compatible.
Will do some more digging on services and apps that should not be there but the chinese really like to disguise things they don't want anyone to see LOL
Hi. I have the same box and installed latest official firmware android 9.
My problem is that is not possible to update the Google play store, stuck on version 13. All other apps are updated by the stor with no problems.
But i cant find a way to updaye the play store.
When i try to update it, always give package error, simple instalation fail.
I have not found a working twrp for it, so no gapps for now.
Do you know of a solution ?
Many boxes from China do not have certification from Google, that's why you cannot run native TV apps on them. If you want these TV apps, buy those boxes labelled with "Google certified", which are of couse more expensive and with inferior hardware--certification needs extra cost, man.
You can try install magisk, whill will tell u Safenet test failed and some CTS failure, that's what I said above.

T95 H616 fixing Google Play. How do I do this?

THIS IS A T95 H616 DUAL BAND MODEL.
As is obvious by now, this box is known for Google Play issues. My box did come with regular Google Play Store as opposed to the TV version but it down right refuses to update to the latest version and if I try to install via APK I always get 'App not installed'. Since the device does have ROOT out of the box I took the opportunity to make things a bit more useable in that department by installing Magisk, and I have been able to manually update the Play Store to the latest version and it works just fine but I don't want to have to do it this way every time. The box can live with the Play Store being completely uninstalled using this method and I thought I'd try installing from scratch. Nope. It still gives me 'App not installed'. I've even tried manually creating the folders and moving the APK to /data/app/, setting the relevant permissions and ownership but still this was a no-go as when I restarted the device every change I'd made in there had been cleared. What else can I try?
android 10 doesn't let you modify the system partition period. the only ways to modify it are via magisk modules, flashing the whole rom with your mods included or maybe via TWRP (which we don't have).
I've noticed on this box that it doesn't like having it's system apps removed either, others have said the changes won't stick or you'll get a bootloop. freezing system apps does work however, I was able to freeze the ATV YouTube and install Vanced.
on the play store front I've not had too many problems other than paid apps not showing as paid for about 24 hours after a factory reset. I haven't checked what version it was on or whether it was latest, I'll go and look now.

It has actually been pretty bulletproof for me with regards to that. I am able to mount the system partition as R/W and swap out the Play Store APK with the latest version and set all the permissions and everything and it works just fine. It's just not an ideal way of doing things. What would cause this? All other APKs install and update just fine. The paid app thing happens only because the Play Store is out of date. Every BETA I am subscribed to is also stuck on 'Removing you from the beta'.
from the little I've read the makers of these boxes don't intend to do any maintenance or updates on their boxes, next year they'll bring out android 11 boxes that'll stay as they are more or less.
I haven't messed around with the two update apps don't want to start again from scratch. I'm thinking maybe one of them covers the play store.

Update apps? Play Store is supposed to update its self but it can't. Can't update via APK, can't install from scratch via APK, 'App not installed', 'Update failed' etc. There is a serious issue with the FW here and it doesn't affect a single other of my Android 10 devices. If you mean Aptoide and APKPure, they just download and execute APK files. Same results.
was thinking about the Local Update and Wireless update apps in the app draw, they can't both for firmware.
I think this is safe to call a forked version of Android, it's pretty much locked down to the way the want it, maybe they never intended the store to be updated independently of the whole rom.

Oh I see. Wireless update is essentially System Update. I'm not sure about the other. Perhaps it's like the old Backup & Restore thing the old boxes had that you needed to boot in to TWRP. I've only ever re-flashed it via PhoenixSuit and PhoenixCard.
I recently purchased the Pendoo T95 all winner box. I can download Pluto Tv via play store but it will not open.

try looking on APK mirror if it's a free app. maybe an older version will get you started. always compare file sizes with files from playstore just to be safe.
