Which sms app to use on watch? - LG Watch Style

I would like to know what everyone else is using for sms on watch. I've tried Wear Messenger. ...not sure I like it. I would like to have "canned quick replies" and also be able to write using my finger. ...of course with voice response too. I'm using S6 for phone.

I know that I'm late to the party, but I use Android Messages. I also use that as the default messenger on my phone (HTC U11). Not sure if you can use two different messages apps, but you might.

[Q] texting app crapware

Hi,
Please tell me how to get rid of the god-awful slow texting app that comes with this phone, and replace it with the stock android texting app.
Thanks!
Are you referring to the AT&T messages app? 'Cause the SMS app that comes stock works fine for me :/
Stock messages app works fine for me. If you have root you may be able to find differnt message apps, but my first suggestion is to give handcent a try as it is my go to sms app for when I'm having issues with cusom ROMs being buggy with mms. Its got a threaded look to it, much like iphone.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...GwsMSwxLDIxMiwiY29tLmhhbmRjZW50Lm5leHRzbXMiXQ..
It also has font packs and other stuff on the app store.

I far prefer GO SMS Pro, love the interface and features, but with all the third-party SMS apps I have an issue of double and triple texts being sent to people. I agree the Samsung SMS app is painfully slow. I hate using it, but it's my only choice because it doesn't send out duplicate texts. :/

Thats very odd, I've never got complaint of this. Have you googled the issue to see if there is a known solution or work around? As common as these apps are you can't possibly be the only one misfortunate enough to experience this. I have had issues in the past getting numerous notifications despite turning native notifications off for SMS, but thats an entirely different issue.
How do i replace the Samsung message app with the vanilla android one? The Samsung one is slow and is a failed attempt at copying iphone. The keyboard even blocks the send button!

Mostly I see people on ICS complaining about this issue, but there are several people on GB complaining about it as well, for both GO SMS and Handcent and a few others on Google Play.
I had the duplicate notification issue with Handcent - even though I had disabled notifications for the stock app AND frozen it. Didn't have that problem with GO SMS. Had an odd problem when I tried Chomp SMS, where all incoming messages were anonymous and upon trying to view them, the message couldn't be found. That even happened in the stock app, so long as I had Chomp installed. Uninstalling fixed that issue immediately.
But so far as I can tell, some people just have the problem, and most don't. I have yet to see a reply from any of the devs about the issue. I've tried completely resetting the phone to factory spec but I still got the duplicate message issue.
I really, REALLY want to use GO SMS. Although something else I noticed is that some people's messages were being sent to the wrong contacts... Perhaps I'll try the vanilla Android apk...
How do you try the vanilla android apk?

This is the ics messenger app, you can try it without needing root.

Thanks but I don't really want a third party version with ads. I don't get it...isn't there a plain messaging app that comes with android (like what was on the nexus one), or is it proprietary to every device? It seems like this shouldn't be such a difficult thing to install instead of the crappy samsung one. Am I missing something?
i'm surprised. the sms app is not bad i'm the note. I've seen worse. (though i am using the rogers version)
I'm coming from a rooted Inspire 4G (cyanogen) and I've noticed that the texting on the Samsung Messaging app is a bit sluggish. And some keys don't respond to my fast fingers.. Yet the app itself runs very fast (ie open app, open threads, go back, etc).
One thing I did was uninstall Swype through Titanium and I think I've noticed a difference in the keyboard speed. It may just be my imagination though

I'm using go SMS, no issues..as long as I leave stock installed and not frozen..if I do..no mms messages

Use Whatsapp and Kakaotalk on both phone and Prime?

I use these two chat apps on my phone. They are linked to your phone number. I tried installing them on my Prime but can't get past the registration parts about the phone number.
Is it possible to use these apps on the Prime using the same account you use with your phone? I would like to receive and send messages using both my phone and Prime. It is much faster typing with the Prime keyboard dock.
Thanks
Use titanium backup to make a backup of whatsapp on you phone, then restore it on the prime with data. You should be all set.. when there is a new version out, just do a restore on the prime of the app only..
I used a new number on my prime since the messages doesn't always gets delivered to the right device
Thanks for the response. Sounds impractical if Whatsapp confuses over which device to send incoming messages to though.
I also considered having two separate Whatsapp/Kakao accounts (one for phone and one for tablet), but it is a logistically poor idea for when one of my friends wants to start a conversation with me. They may accidentally choose to message my tablet when I only have my phone with me.
I really do not understand why Whatsapp hasn't released a non-phone based app. If someone could explain this to me, it would be appreciated. Because all I see right now is a company not developing for a booming market (think iPad and other Wifi only devices too).

If you're just going to use your phone's SMS for that, you might as well just use MightyText. It's more widely used, it hooks in using a Gmail account, doesnt require Bluetooth to be up, and has a very very bright future...

I suggest everyone who wants this feature to email Whatsapp and Kakao about this Tablet Talk app. I know I am.

Your Preferred SMS App?

i'm not a fan of handcent and looking to move on from GO. The stock HTC just doesn't do it for me either. Any others I should be checking out?
thanks!
Other than the ones you've mentioned, Chomp is decent. It's not the prettiest, but it's pretty quick and functional.

I've only ever used the stock app and had a dumbphone before the Rezzy. What are you getting out of other sms apps that you don't get from the stock one? What am I missing out on?
I used to love chomp until the changed the quick reply popup from black to white background. Im currently using handcent and havent found a replacement yet. I didn't like go sms.

Better handling of large message counts, pop-up reply/compose windows, more customization features, etc. The pop-up windows are the biggest things for me...you can send, receive, and reply to messages without leaving the app you're in.

Oh, I like that... which one do you use?
I use gosms. I absolutely love it. It's way better than handcent. It has everything handcent does (emoji, pop ups, customization) and more like:
A very clean ui
Option for different running modes(i use lite mode. It has no addons and runs fast)
Emoji. I can't stress it enough. It has better encoding. On handcent my iphone friends had problems viewing it but on gosms it works great.
Private box. A locked in box where you can receive messages without people seeing them. I have all the conversations I have with girls in there.
Group chat. No need to download 15 addons or pay like handcent. All you have to do is go to send settings and turn on "mms group chat". Works flawlessly.
All around gosms is so much better. Don't bother with handcent or chomp.
Used to use Handcent then switched to GoSMS. Been using GoSMS for quite a while now.
seems like i might be sticking with GO. I don't dis-like it, but it seems even the "lite" mode is becoming bloated. I like the stock htc app except when downloading group messages or attachments it takes forever, unlike GO which would show up immediately.
Be weary of GO products. I noticed a while ago (when I stopped using them) that they seem to use a lot of data ... I wonder what they could be doing... And what data they gather... Anyway just sayin
I stick with stock aosp on cm9. I'm normally a go sms fan for all it's features but I hate how it's always running while aosp isn't. I personally think go devs implemented unnecessary services into it.

Well I would use AOSP but it lacks emoji. All my friends have iphones and holy s*** do they love their emojis
The stock version from the Ville C Sense 4.0 base.
Specifically, Nils' Business ICS 4.0...
Yea, I just use the stock messaging app. I also use SMS Popup to get the popup window with the quick reply, delete, etc. And if you really want emoji there are ways to get emoji in android with special font files. I dont care about them so its no big deal.
I'd rather have an SMS app that's not running nonstop since SMS apps with emojis have excessive services and such running. waste of battery when you aren't using it. even if go SMS is configured to not run persistently there's still unwanted crap running

You must not text much because everyone uses them and those font files are for them to show up in black and white.

Well you obvious don't know what your talking about because the reason why mine runs nonstop is to receive messages. If you uninstall stock message(which btw runs all the time ) you need to make sure gosms is the one receiving messages. Also it doesn't waste battery its like a 5mb process that runs in the background. There's no unwanted crap...

You can't really say that. I average around 1000 texts a month and I have never once received a single message with emoji. People I communicate with don't use them.

[Q] Reply to Texts from my laptop? Does Samsung make one?

I can't download anything to my work computer but can get chrome extensions. Aside from Mighty Text, is there a Samsung app which I can reply to texts to from my laptop? I used Moto Connect in the past which was meh but better than nothing
Thanks!
Use pushbullet. It works on any android device and has a chrome extension.

Thanks guys! Giving it a go now!

Thank :good: this is a great App
will we get notification of WhatsApp or other chat app
if we watching Movie on full screen or if i am not on Firefox & working on Excel
any other or better App than this
I gotta suggest MightyText over PushBullet.
PB is nice, but if you don't get the notification immediately, or if you don't want to reply to it right then, you can't go back and see old messages. MightyText stores your SMS conversations like IM chats so you can take care of them at your own pace. Plus it still does notifications and pushing of images/files/etc.

Changing the "recent contacts" messaging app when sharing. (cross post)

There is a REALLY cool feature I'd like to be able to utilize where the G4 pulls up your most recent contacts when you start to share something.
*see attached image* (names and numbers have been edited out for privacy reasons)
Only problem is, that even though my default messaging app is Next SMS if I select one of these recent contacts at the top. It still opens up "messaging" to send the message. Which actually is very limiting because it doesn't like not being default with MMS's.
Is there an easy way to change that behavior?
Thanks,
Gilligan
The app has to be made To use that function. It is part of stock Android. All my messaging apps use it. I can't say about handcent as I stopped using them a few years ago when the company when down hill and the app went to garbage.

Handcent is known for not delivering messages. Along with other huge issues. I use YAATA myself or textra. Both work wonderfully. I choice YAATA over textra so I can hide that God awful material design. Just avoid Go sms at all costs.

Yeah unless you ran a logcat or people contacted you every time you didn't reply then you really wouldn't know. I used to use handcent until people started getting mad I wasn't replying. Then I looked into it and saw it was failing. It was a great app until it was sold to a China based company.
So, how do you turn off the row for messaging if you have a different app (YAATA) doing the messaging for you now?

It should auto replace the normal messaging.
As you can see from my SS
Hmmm.. mine is acting differently. I has two rows. One replaced, one didn't.
As you can see here, top row is YAATA, bottom is still "Messaging".
The more you use it the less they will be there. If you have root you could always freeze it or disable it. It could also be the device. I know some apps are making it annoying to replace the stock apps. Like Samsung devices.
