[Q] Rikomagic MK802II, portrait mode

Hello all,
this is my first post here so be gentle :cyclops:
I've bought Rikomagic MK802II with Android 4.0.4. with HDMI.
I want to rotate screen to portrait mode. I spent days trying to make it work but without success.
Device came without "Auto-rotation" option in settings. It is somehow locked to landscape rotation.
I tried to do:
1) Unpacked original IMG file, then unpacked system and changed build.prop.
- I've added "ro.sf.hwrotation=90" to build.prop file and flashed the device.
- after rebooting system stuck at loading screen
2) Again fresh start from original IMG file.
- changed "config_AllowAllRotation" from "false" to "true" in framework-res.apk
- packed all and flashed the device
- after reboot system running OK but still in landscape
3) Made file local.prop in /data/.
- In it I've added:
launcher.force_enable_rotation=true
qemu.sf.lcd_density=160
- nothing helped...
4) Changed settings.db.
- changed user_rotation from 3 to 0 (to 1 also)
- after rebooting screen is still in landscape but settings.db doesn't have anymore this row: user_rotation and 20 next rows too.
I also spot some AutoRotationController.smali file but I don't know is everything about it or?
How I testing portrait mode:
- Tried with Rotation locker application
- made my app which have orientation to portrait (tested it on my tablet and on my smartphone and in emulator and in all cases app is in portrait except on MK802II).
Does anyone know what is needed to be changed to get portrait rotation? No matter locked portrait rotation or Auto rotation enable. Just possibility to rotate screen to portrait.
Are there some parameters needed to be changed or some features to be added or something else?
Are there some group of parameters considering to screen rotate?
Any luck with the rotation? Same story on the mk802 fw.
Cheers,
Martijn
Still no luck. I didn't gave up but I need to learn more about android to better understand the problem about rotation and to to prevent/allow screen rotation. That is hard way for me but only because I didn't get any help on the forums and cannot find any blog on the net who have this there written down.
I'm guessing all your previous attempts to configure or manipulate the devices screen orientation are unsuccessful probably because all these system settings, configurations and used apps rely on a hardware feedback of sum sort.
Which probably is absent on these devices.
I don't believe an android stick as this comes with a gyroscopic sensor (hardware). Thus not able to supply or react to the correct information.
I don't think its impossible though, it just needs a more low-level programatically approach.
Good luck :good:
And please share your solution if you get it solved. I can imagine more people are facing this problem.
Semi - Solution
Hello,
I have been working with one of these devices recently and also needed to display something in Portrait mode.. Alas it's locked in to landscape.
Instead, I figured out a work around. I built an application that is landscape, but the internal objects are rotated 90 degrees. The app I am working on (and hope to have in the app store soon) is a web browser kiosk style app. This application design would allow you to display something in portrait mode even if the devices is locked to landscape. Added bonus, with the way I have it set up I am able to also set it to 180 degrees or 270 degrees (this is useful if the picture needs to be flipped on a projector lets say)
Just thought I'd share what I figured out so far. I'll post the link once I have the app ready for prime time.

Mini Pro rotation problem

Hello guys, I have mini pro. Unfortunately sensor that located on the front is not working anymore. so my phone alwyas stayin as the ''rotate screen automatically'' enabled. İs there any solution to get home screen in portrait mode not landscape. thanks
Any help friends. Can I delete any file from system connected with rotation and end the problem!!!
hey there, do you happen to know exactly what sensor controls this? i'm still trying to figure this out. I'm sorry but I can't help you on this one
On mini pro there is no sensor control. Mybe I am wrong it not about sensor. Home screen and all apps are always shown in landscape mode , even screen rotation disabled in settings.
I have tried nearly all ics kernels, all the same. When installed kitkat rom 4.4.2 all is well screen rotation is backed to normal. I dont know whats wrong with ics!!

Auto rotate not working

On my mate 10 Pro, the auto rotate setting is enabled but apps don't auto rotate to landscape.
I've turned it off and on, tried different apps to control it but no joy.
I should add the screen does rotate from landscape to portrait mode.
Not sure if it's a sensor or setting issue.
Any assistance is appreciated, thanks.
I am having same problem too any solution?
Restart the phone
I was having the same problem on my Honor 8, but a simple phone restart did the trick.
Just restart you phone It happens after it being up for a long time a simple restart fixes it I hope they fixed that bug in Android 9.

Problem brightness mate 20 pro

Hi guys, a question: setting the brightness manual, you noticed by chance if entering some Apps like Facebook, Gmail, Chrome etc the same is lowered and then return to the set value when you leave? Thanks to those who will answer.
That is even with the auto brightness ticked-off and smart screen feature also off, the screen will automatically lowered after few seconds I opened the Facebook app, Chrome app for example.
same problem..
This is a serious problem with the software, but a intented one. Really makes me think about whether I keep this phone or not.
This video adresses the problem at minute 3:20.
Also the flickering of the display is a issue for sensitive users. This is the most flickering oled display I've seen so far. Adressed at minute 2:55
I really hope Huawei adresses and fixes this strange programmed behaviour. But I'm afraid they won't, because the Mate 10 Pro and P20 Pro also have this automatic brightness limiting.

Check whether the light sensor is working. The screen brightness may not adjust properly if the light sensor is covered by other objects.
Please adjust the screen brightness if you think the screen is too bright or too dark. Go to Settings and select Display > Brightness.
Please check whether the AUTO switch in the Brightness level menu is enabled. If the AUTO switch is not enabled, the screen brightness may fail to adjust automatically. You can go to Settings > Display > Brightness level to enable the AUTO switch
Dude, this is so off topic. Has nothing to do with the sensor. It is software.
Check the internet for Huawei brightness dimming, screen dimming and power genius. You will find many topics which adress this problem. It is a problem in many Huawei phones. Mate 9, Mate 10 Pro, P10, P20 pro, they all suffer from this same problem which the Mate 20 Pro also happens to have unfortunately...
Is there a solution for this problem, I also have the same issue on my Mate 20 PRO. Is any chance to EMUI 9.1 solve this problem ?
Removing powergenie through adb solves this problem
What is the adb?
