How to customize vibration by notification type? (e.g. short for email, long for SMS) - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Hi folks, just got a G5 H830 (coming from an HTC 10 due to battery problems). I'm rooted but still running most recent stock LG/T-Mo software (20N).
The problem: I can't find a way to change the vibration notification pattern per app / per notification type. I assumed this was a standard thing across the Android world, but I'm only seeing the option to choose ONE vibration pattern, and customize intensity. The Gmail app vibrates the same way as my SMS app does, which drives me nuts!
How can I fix this? Do I need to install a custom kernel, and/or custom ROM?

No search the play store, there's probably an app for that

Cool, when I searched on mobile all I found was "vibrator" apps and stuff for wearables, but searched on desktop and found: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wbouvy.vibrationcontrol Seems like it'll do the job, it needs pretty questionable permissions to work though. Can't believe this is necessary, apparently even the Galaxy S8 omits this feature (?!)
If anyone running a custom ROM on their G5 sees this thread, I'd love to hear if the ROM you are using has this as a standard feature.

[Q] wake display on notification possible on HTC One?

2 weeks in with the HTC One and love it still... I have always rooted and gone with custom rom (thanks to XDA-Dev!) within hours of getting a new device from AT&T (sticking with them cause I have an old grandfathered-in unlimited data plan) but didnt with the HTC One because I just seemed perfect for how I use my phone.
Now that I'm back in the saddle at work and deep in writing some heavy code I notice one thing that may be the single reason I need to root / mod (unless Im missing something): When I get an SMS I get the audible notification sound I have selected and the small LED light indicator, but unlike my last android device, the screen doesnt wake and show me the lock screen where I have it setup to show the first few lines of new emails and SMS messages... so I have to stop typing each time and manually press the power button each time...
is there a way to enable this or is LED / sound notification basically all the stock AT&T HTC One is capable of?
Anyone else dealt with the same issue and found a workaround?
Don't quote me but I used handcent to get around this same issue. Handcent works really well but I wish they would have allowed this on the original messaging app. There are quite a few dumb decisions that were made on the One

You can do it, but you're gonna have to decompile and edit some things.

Yes there are many options for screen-on SMS notification. ROMs such as Viper One (via the built in Venom Tweaks) and TrickDroid (via an Aroma option during installation) support screen-on SMS notification with the default messaging app. Several 3rd party SMS apps have this feature as mentioned previously.
Also look into Glowfly in the Play Store. Nice mms wake solution.
metro notifications........is the best!!!!!
Activenotifications is also a great option. Mimics the moto x wake display feature

I use Notifier Pro. It gives me a banner across the top of my screen like the iPhone does and it gives you the option to wake up the device

Skipping the Notification Bell (without root)

I posted this on the ZTE Community forums, and thought I'd add it here as well.
The notification bell on the lockscreen is a major annoyance for many of us. I was looking for some other way to manage this, but lockscreen widget apps don't work, and most lockscreen apps don't support the fingerprint reader, Smart Lock, or double tap to wake. After reading a lot of reviews, I'm cautiously optimistic about Next Lock Screen, an Android app by Microsoft, of all things! This app sort of runs "on top" of/with your built in lockscreen. It shows the notifications, right there, no bell, and it still works with the fingerprint reader and the double tap to wake feature on my ZTE Axon 7. It claims to still work with Smart Lock, but I haven't been able to try that yet.
Google Play Store Link: Next Lock Screen - Android Apps on Google Play
In the Next Lock Screen settings, set the "Screen Lock" option to "System" to keep your double tap to wake, fingerprint, PIN, etc. just as you already have them. If you do this, you will still get a glimpse of your old ZTE lockscreen now and then, when you try to go into the Next Lock Screen settings, and it shows you the ZTE screen and makes you fingerprint scan before changing settings.
The Next Lock Screen is not quite as fast as the ZTE Lockscreen, so you glimpse it briefly before your homescreen, when the device unlocks.
I like the app that you suggest, but is there a way to keep showing ZTE wallpapers? ZTEs setup keeps changing wallpapers everytime the screen wakes up. I kinda like the feature. I know the Next Lock Screen app has a similar feature with Bing wallpapers, but that is only once per day.
I've been using Next for the past week to get around the bell and it works quite well - especially with the fingerprint sensor. Very surprised that it took MS to make a very useful and intuitive lockscreen for Android. Of course, I'd rather have pure Android instead of an app work around.
That bell is truly a feature that i dont understand. So, si annoying and stupid.
Thanks for this but I'm gonna try the root way first
There's a way to remove it with root?

Basically any 3rd party lockscreen, like Next, AcDisplay, Ambient display, etc, will disable the stock lockscreen when the 3rd party app takes control. It's a work-around. People probably want some kind of interaction from the lockscreen anyway, and this is a way to get rid of the stupid bell and get that interactive display at the same time.
Edit: I missed the post before yours. I do hope that someone creates an option in settings on a future ROM to disable it directly though. After root and bootloader unlock of course.

or just shout about it loud enough at ZTEs, so that they will make it an optional feature in coming updates... there is a bunch of optimal features they should integrate:
- optional bell on lockscreen
- optional on-screen buttons (as chinese 6gb versions have already)
- optional black/dark theme (specially with that amoled display)
... will tell more when I got the phone :silly:
I kind of defeated the bell using Tasker to simulate a touch right where the bell is. Unfortunately it simulates a touch even when I use the finger print. Not really sure which is more annoying, the bell or having a touch in the upper left every time the screen comes on. That's how ****ing annoying this bell is.

How's that a root workaround? The method you described can be used without root as well and the problem with it is that it doesn't support the fingerprint scanner.
Does anyone have a stock android lockscreen app so I can install is as a system app and delete ZTE one? Thanks

Are you able to use fingerprint with NEXT and the stock lockscreen disabled? For some reason the only way I can use fingerprint is if I have both lockscreens enabled at the same time.

No, only with both on. It's slightly annoying, but less annoying than the bell.

Yes I agree!:good:
Can someone please make an xposed mode or something similar for those who have root and would like to keep the stock lock screen? I imagine it's not that difficult of a task, but I have little to no skills when it comes to coding so can't make anything like that ? Thank you

Sadly, I think you're limited to setting one wallpaper or using the Bing wallpapers.

Still, that was rather clever of you. :good:
I figured out how to have the bell auto open with Tasker. I uploaded the two profiles that are needed to do this. Probably not the most elegant Tasker work but meh it works. This works by simulating a touch where the bell is when you are on the lock screen but not when you use finger print unlock.
Looks like you need root for this.
To import: Save xmls to /sdcard/tasker/profiles
Load up tasker and long press profiles and hit "import".

I can confirm that this works for me as well. Thank You.
This profile works without root to auto hit the bell and is much faster than my other one. You need tasker and autoinput.

How does one set this up?

General questions

Hello fellow Xiaomi users,
I got my Redmi 5 Plus a few days ago, updated it only via the system update (no custom twerks yet).
Currently I have the stock Android 7.1.2 N2G47H and the stock MIUI 9.6.2.0 NEGMIFD.
I have a couple of questions about the phone and I would really appreciate your help:
1) Will this phone get an official Oreo update? I've read that there should be one, but couldn't find any official date mentioned.
2) Stock launcher - I noticed that I couldn't remove app icons from the stock launcher. Is there a way to do that, and customize it all together?
3) Nova launcher - Since I couldn't remove unneeded app icons from the stock launcher, I installed Nova. An issue I find with it though, is that I no longer get skype notification sound - only vibration. Also sometimes messenger fails to make a sound as well, but that happens fairly rare. Any idea on a fix for this? Or maybe recommend a better launcher, that works with the phone?
4)Viber - I am using dual SIMs. One personal, and one for work. I activated only my work viber, but as soon as I started using it, it transferred all my contacts in it. So now my personal and work contacts got mixed. Wouldn't be an issue, If I didn't use viber on my work PC, and I would rather my personal chats to not be there. Any suggestion on how to separate my contacts? Anyone else had this issue?
5) Alarm sound - I am not sure if this happened after I switched to Nova, but my alarm sound is really low. The phones speakers are quite good, but when it comes to the alarm its quite low. I can barely hear it and wake up
6) Freezing - Sometimes when I type in let's say messenger, the phone freezes for some reason, until I type the next letter. For example if I try to type the word "submarine", I can type "subma" but it will freeze on "subm", and when I type the next letter (r) it will spit out both of the last written letters "submar" and then continue to work normally. What can cause those freezes?
I would really love to hear your opinion on these points.
Thanks in advance guys
1) For sure, in the main miui site is indicated and if is there is a closed beta available then we can expect an official version.
2) Remove the icons from stock launcher will mean uninstall them, you can only move them to the next display and maybe group them.
3) Check if all permissions are granted for this launcher including device control and accesibility, also enable in Nova persistent notifications. I use stock launcher, I put my preferred apps in main desktop, the others just moved them to the right and using the app "My Drawer" from developer Ofir Miron, it´s the only that I found that keeps the same icon from any theme that I pick, the others look very ugly.
I´m rarely use the other points so I don´t know

Thank you for the reply, I guess I will wait for the update for now, and experiment some more with Nova.
One more thing that came to mind - any way to use the proximity sensor to stop the phone for ringing or to answer calls? I had this options on other android phones - when the phone rings, and you bring your phone close to something (like your year) it picks up. Or when you flip it face down it stops the ringing. Any of these options available?? Can't find them so far.

Android 9 Pie - Touch & Hold is apparently disabled (?) [Lenovo Z6 Lite]

I have a Lenovo Z6 Lite. I was ready to change to another ROM, but I gave ZUI a try because it does look like vanilla Android. Now the problem is, press and hold suddenly does not work for the home screen and the app drawer and such, although it still does work on most applications. However, I do remember that this worked perfectly fine when it was new. It's a bummer having to deal with the stock icons and widgets on the home screen, not to mention not having the app shortcuts in the drawer.
I did the following:
1.) Uninstall and/or disabled on-screen overlay enabled apps
2.) Disabled notifs on apps, if it helps
3.) Left all sensitivity settings on stock
Is this problem specific to this Android skin, or does this problem also occur on other brands and skins? If it is, does anyone have fix for it? I really want to solve this without having to change ROMs because it's damn hard finding a decent, stable ROM for a not-famous phone.
Thank you very much.

HONOR Pad 8 - brightness bar - volume lock etc

Hi there, I hope this is the right place where to post this.
I'm not an expert at coding and I am struggling a lot with this issue I have.
I have an autistic child and since they have sensory issues he likes to set the brightness to its maximum level on his tablet,
he does the same with the sound but let's face the brightness issue now.
I'd like to have the chance to remove the brightness slider from the notification shade so that he cannot change it too easily.
On his previous tablet, unfortunately it has died, I managed to install a CyanogenMod Rom which had this option,
his new tablet is a HONOR Pad 8, I couldn't find any CyanogenMod Rom and since it's new I'd really like not to mess around with it for now.
I cannot really undestand how it is possible that such a useful and easy option is missing on stock roms,
the number of disabled people and children that could benefit from this kind of settings option is huge and they are completely neglected.
Is there any way to hide the brightness slider from the notification shade or lock its value?
Thank you in advance.

Your options may be grim.
First off - you cannot remove the brightness slider without using a custom rom.
However there might be a fix for the volume controls - which will disable the volume controls, using Button Mapper. It's on the Google Play Store, however not sure if it'll work though.

Thank you for your reply.
I have found out how to change volume or brightness levels via ADB commands but I couldn't find a command to lock those values, maybe it's not possible I don't know.
I can assure you that there are lot of people who need to lock volume and brightness, disable the uninstall shortcut by long pressing apps icons, lock phone's settings via the app lock option...
All of this is missing on the stock ROMs and it's really unbelievable.
I think every parent would be willing to pay to benefit of such features.
There are many useless accessibility options available but these obvious ones are missing, I would like to know how to raise awareness about this issues with the official Android developers.
In the meanwhile I hope someone else could suggest me a workaround.
Thank you again
Alex
