Who the hell are you to tell someone to take some time to do anything for you? Did your mother teach you ANY manners? These people do these things without any guarantee of payment, so unless your gonna put some cash up, I suggest you learn some of said manners.

Amen to that. This is the kind of bullsh** that makes devs run away from our community, not towards it. If you want to ***** at somebody, call up HTC and tell them you can't root your phone. I'm sure they will be VERY sympathetic and offer to send you an Incredible instead.

I can pretty much guarantee you the SECOND you get root, you won't give a **** about any non-rooted people and only focus on ROMs.
Do you also expect verizon to erect a cell tower near your house and a mini AP in your car so you have perfect service wherever you go?

As a non-dev, I am disheartened to see this type of post in the Development thread. Have you seen the number of posts in the 1.49 leak-root threads? There are currently folks working on two distinct methods of rooting - isn't that proof enough for you? Also, was anyone here responsible for "making" you go to the leaked version? No? Well then why are the dev's responsible for giving you a cookie for the decision you made?
Also, to all of the people that say, "I can't be bothered to read all 100+ pages" or similar - please do. 99.9% of the time you will find the answer to your question within those posts - or hey, try the magical search box.
I personally want to thank the dev's that have been helping us with finding just the right exploit. As you can see, there has been a lot of work looking at the leak, RUU, hboot, and various methods to finally achieve [an easy way to] root the Eris. This community has been extremely helpful, innovative, and downright awesome in helping folks like me learn the ins and outs of the Android System and the Eris. Don't screw it up for the rest of us.

In all seriousness, the points made in the responses are valid.. Father_Vic chose poor wording to express frustration, and some of his frustrations are borne out of simply being unaware of some things..
Root for 2.1 in general is being sought actively by all sorts of devs and would-be devs. I'm pretty sure there are fewer and fewer devs working directly on Eris, other than to try to make holes found elsewhere a little bit more open to the masses, a la the efforts by Tereg and company.
Are they working on it night and day? Hellz no. After you've tried the same stuff over and over a few times, you move on to either new angles on old stuff, or new stuff, altogether. Otherwise, people call you crazy or naive.
This poll seems like it'd be helpful on the surface, if just to provide reassurance for us poor 1.49ers without root, but the ones that respond affirmatively may or may not be totally clueless when it comes to anything other that running downloaded scripts, and as for the devs that really do understand, well..
Don't worry about this stuff running devs off.. The real devs LOVE to solve problems, because it's like crack cocaine to figure stuff out, and what they really don't give 2 $hitz about is polls..
Can we get this thread moved to General? Not sure that just deleting it would help anybody..

We are all trying different things, we are all trying different methods and we are all devoting hours a day to try to bust this thing open. The eris is one of the only phones not rooted by means other than a rooted link. Some of us feel we are going at this alone without any real help from the devs. Plus anytime we have asked if any of the silent devs are working on it or have any suggestions; "flame on" from the rooted majority.
Not entitlement - just wondering if those of us fending for ourselves are getting any help from those who can.
BTW - to assert that we just go ahead and learn what the devs know really is insulting to the devs. All the time, effort, education, and knowledge that they have is not something that we can all just learn to do in a couple of days.
I knew the flame was coming....

I have a rooted phone, replacement on the way, I'm not getting my hopes up for a 1.47 hboot im sure 1.49 will come unfortunately, and seeing the low success rate with the current root methods I'm afraid im gunna hate my Eris again, and now any devs who were putting their FREE time in to help with something that doesn't even benefit them as they are already rooted. Thanks for pushing people away from helping us, and it's just great that it is all fun and games to u. I understand were u are coming from, but this is just bull crap. thanks for nothin.

Up to this point you seem to almost have found some humility. Keep the attitude portrayed here and maybe send out a few PMs asking for help, politely, you may get somewhere, you may not... I GUARANTEE you get farther than your first post.
And as for some of the rest of your comments, MANY a "dev" has started not with college, but in the exact same place you are.

If it is a referb phone, you have some hope. I just got my Eris replacement (after rooting 2.1), and it was 1.5 with a 1.47 bootloader, so there is some hope.
i was working on root until i saw this post. its idiots like you that piss off the devs and make us go elsewhere.
if you are posting this just for fun, to get the laughs and eat your popcorn, then f&%# off. we dont want you here, demand things from the devs, demanding we speak up so you know who we are. if you really want to know who the devs are, that will most likely be anyone on there with more than 200+ posts. the ones that you know there nicks to because they spend most of their time on here posting to help n00bs like you out getting root, or answering the question of which rom is the best or how to install your bootanimation file.
you really want to know who the devs are? they are the ones that sit in the irc channel all day (chat.andirc.net) and are any of the ops on there, or have a uptime of 72hours straight.

I was recently nominated and accepted as a Recognized Contributor here on xda, so I just wanted to kinda give you guys a formal and friendly introduction.

I've been an Android geek for nearly two years now, and have absorbed a lot of information in that time. While I may not be able to build my own rom or submit fixes on github, I do retain information very well and try to help out everywhere I can. I just want everyone to know that if you guys ever need help with something or just need a little guidance, feel free to ask me and I'll do the best I can to respond in a timely manner. I know the big world of root and custom roms can be a bit daunting at first, but that's why we help our newer members learn rather than gripe at them.
You guys can either post questions here or PM me, but I do ask that you try and figure it out on your own first. You'll learn a lot more that way. I promise, that's how I learned everything I know.
Devs, this goes for you too. If you need a last minute tester for something, I'm almost always available to help. I'm willing to switch roms on a dime and flash/push files to the phone. I'll be putting my GTalk ID on my profile soon, so you guys can reach me if need be.

same here...good to see some more help for sure. But anyways ive just got one question here for ya and you may or may not be able to help me. ive tried to ask this in the forums and haven't got an answer so here it goes.
My phone gets warm up around the camera area almost immediately it seams like. it starts when i start using data such as scrolling around Facebook or downloading an app, etc...and was just wondering if that's normal or should i get a replacement? $590 bucks is a lot for a phone and i just want it right ya know.
Now the only reason i ask this is cuz my gnex does the same thing but it gets really hot after about 15 to 20 mins of using data.

Ok I am having difficulty finding information about this on the forums and on the freenode #cyanogenmod chat, nobody seems to know. I have an SGH-i547 Rugby Pro that I succesffully rooted, installed twrp, made the backups and installed Cyanogenmod following the steps in the Rugby Pro super thread by kenomine96. Since then a few circumstances have changed. After modding I had the phone unlocked and switched from ATT to Tmobile. What I want to do now is revert the phone to stock, but my concern is that my TWRP backups were created while I was using ATT. If I used these backups to restore the original operating system would this potentially brick my phone or otherwise render me unable to connect to the Tmobile network? Any tips and advice would be really appreciated guys I do not want to jump into this blind and end up with a screwed up phone.
OK so after a terrible experience in #cyanogenmod (I had like 5 people trolling me when I was sincerely asking for advice) I finally figured it out on my own. but has left me with a very poor impression of this community. Probably not everyone in the community is bad, but there is a good portion of what seem to be l33t geek permavirgin trolls on #cyanogenmod. And to those people on #cyanogenmod that trolled me like that for absolutely no reason at all, you are total FAILURES and have made your community look utterly shameful and unapproachable with your geeky "i have the knowledge I'm-so-better-than-you" attitude. I'm so glad to have this finally removed from my phone and reverted to stock.
Sad... just sad.. :facepalm:

I have posted a few threads with no response and I really can't figure it out. So I am asking the CM community please help with the Kyocera Hydro Life. It is a great entry level smartphone and due to its low cost could be an effective emergency, back up phone or if you have little money to replace a nicer phone you had then these phones really make sense. The problem of course is NO DEV SUPPORT!! There is no recovery or even computer aided recovery and the bootloader is locked. That means the best we can do is have root. Root is great but it does not really unlock the potential of this device. A nice CM custom rom would really help a lot and kernel development would also be great. If anyone can help point me in the right direction or Ican continue endless ignored posts until I get something?

You are wrong. In the right area devs help alot.
As for the question. Developers only work on phones they own. Most only get flagship devices so budget phones are normally left to people that buy them to dig in and develope for them

I am very grateful for all of the dev support I have enjoyed over the years!! I agree they help a lot!!
OK we all know that the devs will work phones they own that happen to be flagship devices I get that. I would even donate toward purchasing a phone for a dev. So how do I stimulate interest in the dev community for a budget phone? Guess it is just not going to happen. Really sucks because I think there is a lot of potential in this inexpensive device. It would be nice for people to have options other than stock! If there is any chance of any dev support it would be highly appreciated but I understand in any case. Can't blame me for trying:silly:

Hey guys, this past is a plea for help with development on the XZ1. Specifically this is aimed at @aledoom @modpunk and @sToRm// because I don't know if any other legit devs that work on this device.
Guys, there has been a lot of BS going on regarding the legitimacy of the DRM fix and it's caused a lot of friction in this community. The unfortunate part of all this is that when the devs get pissed off then the community suffers because nobody else knows how to do the work. I am formally asking all devs to please give this device and the community one more chance. I know there's some sour feelings there but the community is flat lined and there's nothing happening. @aledoom created a fantastic kernel for the XZ1 on the 5.51 firmware that enabled is to use Magisk. Then another "dev" came out with a useable DRM fix but there's a lot of debate over the legitimacy of his work, some saying that he ripped off @sToRm// and his hard work. Personally I don't really know what exactly happened but I [email protected]// was upset and rightly so.
Guys, please, if there's any way you could come back to helping us, even if just for this one time, and help by developing a useable kernel/fix/whatever that can enable us to use the latest firmware, or even the previous firmware since I can't see and real difference in the two, and have the DRM fix running alongside our beloved Magisk for root then I know the community would be ever grateful. I'm sure many of the members on the bounty thread would be happy to donate their money from that bounty to this solution, I know I'd be happy to throw in a pizza or two.
Please guys, we hate SuperSU, we need Magisk, and we DEFINITELY need the DRM fix for the camera because don't are a pain in the you know what with their stupid damn policies. Please guys, can you help the community out one last time??

We already got the 47.1.A.12.34 out and I reckon we all want to be able to install updates also in the future, so a oneoff does not help us very much.
To me it seems the community for the XZ1 is dead and even if it's, according to my opinoin, is the best phone on the market, the era of community support for this phone seems to has come to an end.
(Very good hw and nice sw....if we had a working coomunity. It got just the formfactor I want and I like the "Sony" feeling and design....And I think the pricing is acceptable)
Actually, the community support for the XZ1 never really ever got up to the critical mass, and I choose just to accept the fact.

I didn't know there was a new firmware update. What's new in it? I never noticed any difference between 5.51 and 8.49.
