Hi all,
some of you know me from the other OnePlus or Samsung devices areas, where I provide my kernels already for more than five years to OnePlus 5, 3T, 3, 2, one and X, Galaxy S5, S3 and Note 10.1 users for all sort of platforms (Samsung, Cyanogenmod, Omnirom etc.)
Now I own a OnePlus 5T device and decided to port my kernels also to this device.
Please note:
I am not heading to have as many features as possible implemented, this is not my design goal. If you are more into that, move on to other, good existing kernels. If you are searching for a good mix of improvements and new functions while not sacrificing stability, you are welcome here (see below the history section for more info).
Compatibility
Important: This kernel is only meant to be compatible with official OnePlus OOS and nothing else.
So when the kernel does not run on custom rom XYZ, do not even bother me with it or ask hundred times in the thread for compatibility.
I could not care less about it !!
To add: A community build is NOT an official build supported here. If you use a community build and have issues, don't complain or even report.

Boeffla-Kernel uses the anykernel concept = Flash stock kernel of rom first !
This kernel is ONLY compatible to OxygenOs stock, nothing else !!!
If you are using a custom rom that bases on OxygenOs, it might work. However, if it does not work, do not expect me to do tweak to make the kernel running with your favorite rom. I would not do it - my one and only reference is OxygenOs stock.
It is not supposed to be compatible to CM, HydrogenOS etc.
Also note: You have to use Boeffla-Config app which I provide on my homepage to tweak the kernel. 3rd party apps will not be able to unleash the full power of the kernel.
Important: Manually disable battery optimisation for Boeffla-Config app in the rom settings (battery -> battery-optimisation)

I will refuse to give support if you do any undervolting/overclocking and experience freezes or hot reboots.

I will refuse to give support if you have xposed framework installed and reporting any kind of weird issues. My opinion to xposed it quite clear: too powerful for >90% of the users that just mess up their system with it.

History and design targets
Basically I created my first Boeffla-Kernel in 2012 as there was no kernel for the Samsung Galaxy S3 around that had exactly the mix of functionalities that I wanted. I wanted to have full flexibility in undervolting and charge rates for instance, but did not like the sharpness and/or brightness tweaks many kernels have implemented as per default.
Hence, I began to create my own kernel after a while, adding all the features I like. This is the result of my work, which in the end I decided to share with you. I hope you like it as much as I do.
The objective of this kernel is to have a kernel for daily use. It does not aim for best battery life, or best smoothness or best benchmark scores. Also it does not aim to have the broadest feature set available everywhere.
It aims more for a good mix of all, not sacrificing stability and functionality in the end.
And - most important: It aims to stay quite close to stock !!!
These design targets are also valid for the OnePlus kernel here!!!
This said, I will definitely NEVER implement:
things I do personally not need
things I do not like
things that are in any way dangerous
anything which is highly experimental
a CAF based kernel
anything that requires upstreaming of kernel parts to a higher kernel major version
So do not even ask for it if it falls into the listed categories. Everything else I am happy to check and decide.
And: I do not really care about benchmark numbers, they say almost nothing as long as something is not completely wrong. Important for me is the feel-good factor.
I am also not interested in gaming at all, so never expect a gamer kernel. It will just not happen...
Compatibility
To reiterate it again: Flash the kernel only if you are running a compatible rom !!!
Configuration of the kernel
To tweak and configure the kernel, manually load and install the app Boeffla-Config V2 from the downloads section on www.boeffla.de.
You need at least version 2.5.10 or higher for the OnePlus 5T Boeffla Kernels.

Just flashed, seems that the max brightness is lower, with the display backlight settings unchanged. Apart from that all seems to be good.

This is not changed by me. As long as you do not play in the app with the settings, this is 1:1 as in stock kernel.
Anyone else? I mean, nothing is impossible of course.

Not sure if it is the same problem but in the first release of elementalX kernal, whether the brightness dimmer was enabled or not the brightness at maximum was half of what it should have been.

Ok, issue analyzed, confirmed to be a bug.
Bug is fixed and beta2 already compiling. Stay tuned. And thanks for the report.
(BTW it was not the brightness dimmer but a changed brightness range sent by the rom to the kernel, so the min/max limiter was cutting too early)

So from observations by @rkoby13 and myself, there seems to be a demand for regular builds of DorimanX's kernel!
This thread will serve as a place for logs, reports, and discussion relating to these unofficial builds by me.
Currently the plan is to compile v9 builds, whenever @dorimanx adds major updates or significant modifications to his source, however this may, and probably will, result in UNSTABLE AND EXPERIMENTAL RELEASES
Disclaimer:
Dori tests highly experimental commits prerelease, and if your device is damaged, wiped, or in any way negatively affected by these releases it's not the fault of Dorimanx, or me. In flashing these releases you accept full responsibility for any consequences of its use.
In this op, I'll have a log of which builds are most stable and which ones have bugs reported or major issues in code, and builds with extreme issues will be removed.
As x.39 was just released, the first build will be uploaded after the next major addition to the kernel sources, and every major change after that.
If there is a commit that I have not considered major but is important to you, either reply to the thread or pm me with a link to the commit, and I'll probably update the build to include it. In future, I may also build v8 kernels until their end of life, if many people show a desire for this

Eskriminal's New and Improved DorimanX Stweaks Guide!
Starting off, I will not be covering stock standard info such as cpu clock, voltage, or the most basic governor variables. @droidphile has a brilliant comprehensive guide to these things and more, search!
Now let's get started! This guide will be in the same order as stweaks itself, and if i miss anything that you wanted, pm me
Topic 1. Advanced/Custom Cpu Governor variables
Here will be discussed governors such as nightmare, darkness, and perhaps zzmoove (if i have time), and their variables.
Freq_step
this controls how large the step up should be when the cpu load hits either the up_threshold, or the inc_cpu_load, depending on your governor.
It is a percentage, where the percentage involved is that of the cpu clock prior to the switch.
Down_threshold/dec_cpu_load
same as up_threshold or inc_cpu_load, but in the reverse, these dictate at what load to decrease frequency
Cpu_up_rate/cpu_down_rate
these values determine how many readings of cpu load will be collected (i.e. 60% or 80%) before being compared to the inc_cpu_load or dec_cpu_load respectively
Freq_step_dec
the same as freq_step, but for decreasing frequency
Freq_step_dec_at_max_freq
identical to freq_step_dec, but while cpu is at values above freq_for_responsiveness_max
Up_sf_step/Down_sf_step
both have detailed descriptions in app from alucard

Topic 2. Memory Management
This tab in stweaks dictates whether Dorimanx kernel should control the Android memory management system (Auto Oom Control switch)
The settings here control how it should control it, with the more aggressive the setting, the quicker apps will be killed at low memory.

Topic 3. GPU Tab
The GPU settings are all identical in function to the way CPU control works, with the frequency steps available and voltage/threshold changes.
The GPU utilisation timeout controls how fast the gpu should respond to a heavy load.
With the thresholds, as with cpu the higher they are the slower it will scale frequencies up, and the faster it'll scale down.

Topic 4. Screen Tab
Here all screen settings and brightness controls are changeable.
min_bl controls how fast auto-brightness should increase screen brightness level, when this value is higher the screen will stay on minimum brightness for longer.
min_gamma and max_gamma control the minimum and maximum brightness available to auto-brightness
LCD Power Reduce lowers screen brightness to save battery
Screen colour modes control colour levels
Gamma Shift changes all brightness system-wide up or down based on the value put in
FB early suspend delay controls delay after sleep should activate before running the screen off animation
Vibration force controls the power of vibrations system-wide
Slide2Wake toggles waking the device by swiping across the screen from left to right
mDNIe Negative Toggle enables or disables inverting colours by pressing the home button the number of times set below
Touch screen tweaks control sensitivity options - They're advanced, and usually don't need to be touched
Topic 5. Sound Tab
Most settings are self-explanatory, if anyone wants this actually explained, shoot me a pm.
Topic 6. Big Collection, all Misc. Kernel settings! (BLN, CRON, Logger, Auto wifi etc.)
BLN controls whether to switch on backlights when notifications are received during phone sleep.
The bln effect controls the light mode of these keys (doesn't work with BLN without wakelock)
Notification timeout controls the maximum length of time the keys should be on before turning off (doesn't work with BLN without wakelock)
LED timeout controls the timeout on backlight keys during phone use
BLNWW sets BLN to run without forcing the cpu to stay out of deep sleep, saving battery
LED fadeout controls the effect when the keys switch off
LED on touch determines whether the keys will turn on when pressed during use
LED voltage level controls the key brightness
CRON is a timed automatic service which can be used to run various optimisations and updates as detailed in the 'Other' tab in Stweaks
Fix Permissions may solve fcs in apps
Zipaligning apps may optimise them to run faster
Database optimising will clear and compact the system data, potentially increasing system performance
GPS zone changes to your local ntp server may decrease gps lock times and increase accuracy
USB settings control the device storage mount mode.
Charge current levels control speed of charging from various sources, with the higher the current, the faster the flow and therefore charge
Resetting the fuel guage chip may solve issues when battery appears to drop after reboots, as the chip will recalibrate
The Ad-blocker will block advertisements by ip in most apps
Filesystem tools attempt to recover corrupt partitions on the disk
Root settings control device root security
Cortexbrain controls the switching between various things based on screen state including cpu governor and clock, io scheduler, auto wifi, auto data, and logger control
The android logger writes logs of system errors, disable unless you plan on using this
auto data disables mobile data when the screen is off, with the delay before doing so below it (auto wifi is the same for wireless internet)
Various tweaks change system values relevant to each one
Eco tweaks modifies hotplugging logic when battery drops below the eco-level threshold to save battery by preferring use of only a single cpu core

I bought an optimus g for wife, but started to play with it, lock bootloader, hard to root, no custom kernel for oc. It's nice to see that s2 community it's still active.

I have a question. What is a "V8" kernel and if its good stuff, why isn't included in Dorimanx official build? I'm assuming because of possible bugs?

maybe you lost track....but dorimanx kernel has 2 branches....8.xx & 9.xx....
8.xx has support for Samsung stock JB roms...aswel as aosp/aokp/cm....<---4.2.2 and bellow...to 4.1.2...
9.xx branch supports 4.2.2 and 4.3 only...aokp/cm/aosp roms and dualboot between them....and with 9.xx you have more ram avaliable ....other things you can find in original dorimanx kernel thread....
v8, for official roms. v9, custom roms.
Dorimanx put sources in git daily and build his kernel. Anyone who could and want, take his sources and make an kernel, based on his sources. So, that's what we are here on this thread, we wait to grab and test an custom kernel

dude! I totally lost my mind. Lol. I totally got confused, I know there is a version 8 of the kernel. I was thinking that this was like the "V6 Supercharger" mod that some people use. I thought there was a new version or something that was kernel based. Hahaha. Thanks for clearing that up for me bud.

Finally I got a Samsung Galaxy S5 afew weeks ago and decided to port my kernel also to this device. This is a sponsored device, so I want to say a big thank you to the people that made it possible, namely the ones in the German Smartphone Forum www.hubo.in !!!

I am not heading to have as many features as possible implemented, this is not my design goal. If you are more into that, move on to other, good existing kernels. If you are searching for a good mix of improvements and new functions while not sacrificing stability, you are welcome here (see below the history section for more info).

Important notes
When using new anykernel concept Boeffla-Kernel: Flash stock kernel of rom first !
Compatibility
Important: This kernel is only meant to be compatible with official Samsung stock firmware and nothing else.
So when the kernel does not run on custom rom XYZ, do not even bother me with it or ask hundred times in the thread for compatibility.
I could not care less about it !!

I will refuse to give support if you do any undervolting and experience freezes or hot reboots.

I will refuse to give support if you have xposed framework installed and reporting any kind of weird issues. My opinion to xposed it quite clear: too powerful for >90% of the users that just mess up their system with it.

History and design targets
Basically I created my first Boeffla-Kernel in 2012 as there was no kernel for the Samsung Galaxy S3 around that had exactly the mix of functionalities that I wanted. I wanted to have full flexibility in undervolting and charge rates for instance, but did not like the sharpness and/or brightness tweaks many kernels have implemented as per default.
Hence, I began to create my own kernel after a while, adding all the features I like. This is the result of my work, which in the end I decided to share with you. I hope you like it as much as I do.
The objective of this kernel is to have a kernel for daily use. It does not aim for best battery life, or best smoothness or best benchmark scores. Also it does not aim to have the broadest feature set available everywhere.
It aims more for a good mix of all, not sacrificing stability and functionality in the end.
And - most important: It aims to stay quite close to stock !!!
These design targets are also valid for the Galaxy S5 kernel here!!!
This said, I will definitely NEVER implement:
things I do personally not need
things I do not like
things that are in any way dangerous
anything which is highly experimental
f2fs - it is known to cause various issues and compatibility problems
a CAF based kernel
anykernel method to use the ramdisk of the installed rom
anything that requires upstreaming of kernel parts to a higher kernel major version
So do not even ask for it if it falls into the listed categories. Everything else I am happy to check and decide.
And: I do not really care about benchmark numbers, they say almost nothing as long as something is not completely wrong. Important for me is the feel-good factor.
I am also not interested in gaming at all, so never expect a gamer kernel. It will just not happen...
Compatibility
To reiterate it again: Flash the correct kernel depending on whether you are on Samsung Stock, CM12 or CM11 !!!
Configuration of the kernel
To tweak and configure the kernel, manually load and install the app "Boeffla-Config V2" from the downloads section on www.boeffla.de.
You need at least version 2.1.72 or higher for the Galaxy S5 Boeffla Kernels.

Would love to. But it is a completely different sound chip used in the S5, compared to the S3.
And it seems there is no way to get hold of any documentation for it (wdc9230), which would allow us dev to explore more of the chips capabilities.
If you saw a kernel providing more sound options, I am happy to get the information about it and checking if it can be ported. Then we would even know what the audio hub can do and what not...
Or someone can get Qualcomm to hand me over the documentation of their audio hub, then also more is possible. But many devs for sure have tried that in the past years already, so I am not very optimistic.

Battery friendly seems so good for daily usage at the moment, but Battery Saving with zzmoove / battery yank seems pretty lags. Hope it be implemented some next versions.

Yes, it lags. And it is a hardly battery focussed preset, so it must lag.
That is why you have the choice.

I'm just glad im getting some feedback, weird auto rotation works fine for me and was not experienced by 2 other people who tested the kernel, whats your model? rev-2 is up btw,

Tested rev 2 for 2 days and the phone is a bit warm, drains battery faster and not as responsive as rev 1 so I switch back to it waiting for rev 3. Anyway rev 1 works better for me than original Dots

its still the same as kernel adiutor app plus an interface to control boeffla wakelock blocker and a different name and icon
Started using rev3 since you posted it, coming form DOTS 1.4 on H990DS. Seems to be behaving a little better, running cool and having a bit better battery life (though some of this might be due to the post_boot.sh mod that's posted on this forum that I installed alongside your kernel). 0 issues encountered, auto rotation works fine.

Hi guys, im getting a hard time trying to make sixaxis app work, since the kernel loads bluetooth modules separatelly Im wondering if anyone can try sixaxis compatibility checker with this kernel.
Tried with dots and mk2000 with no luck. Weird sixaxis app works fine with other v20 like h910, h918 but on h990ds is a no go.

Is this kernel compatible with Android Pie (9.0)? It should work out of the box, however several users have reported boot freezes / loops on Pie. I haven't had a chance to test it fully in Pie and am still on Oreo myself. If you run into issues, try running with SELinux as permissive or reach out on Telegram.

I would like to suggest the "Hima Hotplug" for your kernel, it is so fluid and great on battery life (experience from sphinx kernel for bullhead)

though is it just me or does the Settings app display "Unavailable" under Kernel version? EX Kernel Manager displays the kernel version just fine.
Maybe it has something to do with the presence of spaces in the kernel version name?

Yeah I agree, it is, by no means, a deal-breaker. I just wanted to point it out for newcomers because I sure had a grand time panicking over whether or not the installation went through.
Currently using this kernel with ABC rom, so far the best kernel ever, very smooth and good heat output

This does work on AOSiP. Stock ROM (and maybe others) it does not appear after tapping on "Kernel Version" in settings. As noted, third party apps like EX Kernel Manager and Kernel Auditor seem to display the kernel version correctly.
There are, in fact, spaces in LOCALVERSION in the config file. I'll add this under bugs in the second post and update when it's fixed.
PS: Glad you guys are enjoying it and to hear it runs smooth and cool! Usage stats for the 'battery' spectrum profile are in the updated OP. Testing the 'balance' profile now.
UPDATE 8/1: The 'kernel version' issues has been fixed. Notation is in second post and download link has been updated in OP.
This kernel kicks ass! Seriously, great work. One of my major complaints with the 6P was its over heating and then thermal throttling. I just didn't play certain games because of it. Now, after flashing this kernel it runs smooth and cool and games work again. Unreal. Truly love the way the phone works now. Not bad for battery life either but it's not my primary any more.

Good to hear! Did you use the Gaming spectrum profile? I'm don't use my phone for games so I didn't test that outside of synthetic benchmarks. Also, the Battery spectrum profile should give pretty good battery life as it's very conservative.
Spoiler: I'm working on maybe adding the chill or relaxed governors to test as well.
No profiles, just default settings. I usually run a week or two on default before I mess around just so I can tell the difference in the tweaks.
I might play around but this phone is just for messing about now, picked up the Essential on the Prime deal and quite like it so the 6P is not a daily driver.
Gotcha. FYI the balanced profile is enabled by default.

All the profiles are in my AnyKernel repo on GitHub. There are a total of 30 profiles from around the web even though the Spectrum App only uses those numbered 0, 1, 2, and 3. I include my built kernel zImage-dtb in the AnyKernel repo so that you can clone it yourself and apply a different profile "manually" if you like. Just change the number in ramdisk/init.spectrum.sh, zip it up, and flash it.

Note, if you use this method, and later select a profile from the Spectrum App, the Spectrum App choice will override the initial one, including after reboot -- because it applies the settings once the user space is reached.

The kernel is based on tw90-android branch of ELS, which is currently at stable state from my experience

I have totally ditched Samsung's HMP implementation by myself, and adapted aosp-common kernel's EAS commits with the brand new kernel scheduler (called Exynos Mobile Scheduler (EMS)) from Exynos 9820 kernel source, which seemed doing nice on our Exynos 8895. Because HMP isn't doing really well on our 8895, and to take advantage of 64bit kernel, I've done EAS by myself
The kernel's EAS figures were self-made using specific CPU capacity benchmarks and energy usage measurements, along with performance benchmarks for better balance and improved as possible
Questions and Answers (Q&A)
Q: My phone gets hot while using this kernel?
A: Short answer: It's your own issue, fix it yourself. Nobody makes a kernel just to burn your hands
Long answer:
Install Termux app from Play Store
Enable screen rotation, open Termux in landspace mode
Type this command: su -c top -d 2
A list of processes will appear and refresh with 2s interval. Find which process consumes the most CPU usage with [%CPU] column and the package name in ARGS column. You should see the culprit of your issue
Reminder: There is no such thing as "I have nothing in background but the phone still heats up". There definitely something happen and 99% of the time it's some of the rogue apps running in background
Q: Can you add X Y Z feature to this kernel?
A: I want to keep the kernel clean and simple. However, if the feature is really useful, I'll consider adapting it with proper performance check before releasing
Q: I can't connect to any access point after installing this kernel?
A: If you can't connect to an access point on stock/stock-based ROM, simply forget its password and connect again
Q: This kernel is unbootable on my One UI ROM?
A: If you came from previous builds, it's because of Secure Folder. You can either continue using previous build (which I would not recommend) or uninstall Secure Folder, install the latest build and reinstall it again. It's all because I have removed Samsung's FIPS cryptographic API which breaks device encryption
Q: My touchscreen/XYZ hardware stuff doesn't work after flashing kernel
A: Make sure your flashing procedure is right. I'd recommend flashing the kernel with a clean stock boot.img (Magisk or SuperSU-patched one is also okay)
Also, check your device name first before downloading (S8/S8+ and it has to be EXYNOS)
Installation instructions
Select proper kernel variant to download (Stock SE/One UI, LineageOS, Treble)
Put the downloaded kernel flashable zip in the internal storage or SD card
Flash the zip with ease (no root re-installation needed, because the kernel isn't shipped with prebuilt stock boot.img)
Selecting kernel variant:
Non-treble ROMs: RZ-LineageOS-* (might not compatible with all non-treble ROMs as each might use its own kernel and stuffs)
Treble ROMs: RZ-treble (note that it is meant to be used with hadesTreble). If you didn't install hadesTreble, use non-treble build for non-treble AOSP ROMs

My device stays on the highest freq on the BIG cores all the time. With the same setup and other kernels, CPUs tend to power down after a while but with RZ it seems that all cores are on and running at or close to max speed. Is that supposed to be the way with EAS and/or schedutil?

That was the behaviour of EAS on my old LG G6, and that's why i still prefer stock interactive, which I think is very efficient on my exynos note 8
The screenshots were taken after some hours of medium - heavy tasks, including ~40min of RR3 playing.
I will try this kernel anyway when I have some time.

If you use apps like Kernel Adiutor, they aren't showing correct frequencies, as with EAS, freqs are decided as per workload
From my experience, CPUfloat is my best choice. If you wanna see correct frequencies that you're currently in, use CPUfloat with 100-200ms refresh interval

I had the same problem and fixed it by clearing the data of any kernel controlling app and rebooting the phone
Thanks very much for this! Please does this add support for DriveDroid? There's a whole lot of uses to gain with DriveDroid support, including using our Note 8s as recovery tools for other computers. No more keeping track of different USB drives for different OSs. Just an example.
Also, does this break DeX or any other Samsung features? I personally make a lot of use of DeX, heck, even more than my Surface Pro 2 nowadays, so, personally wouldn't want anything breaking it up.

About DeX, since I don't have any stations to try so I don't know if it works, but DeX for unofficial stations has been adapted to the kernel. I assume DeX should work
