New rom for land! - Xiaomi Redmi 3s Guides, News, & Discussion

Hey guys, who can port a rom from Asus Zenfone 4 max to the Xiaomi Redmi 3S?? I think it would be great!
Big thanks who can do it for our device

Ported ROMs have critical issues, also the port source should have somehow same SOC to have a booting port...

I see the asus zenfone 4 max have a same SOC with redmi 3S. And i think it wouldn't be a problem

The SoC is only one of the factors that determines the stability of the ported ROM. Sensors also needs to be similar. Zenui has been ported to redmi 3s but lacks some features and stability.

Redmi 3 vs Honor 5x I hesitate??

Hi there,
Can you help me choosing between these 2?
Will the Redmi 3 get Marshmallow update?
Thanks in advance
Wrong forum, you should compare Honor5x to Redmi Note 2/3 - but anyway ... Redmi 3 wins with battery, performance, OS (because MIUI > EMUI), and price. Honor 5x have better camera and fingerprint reader.

Huawei doesn't have any real support. That is why I have putted aside almost new P7 and bought Redmi3

Huawei and honor are different.
Honor is run separate from its parent company. Honor 7 is getting marshmallow shortly, as is the 6. I've no concern on software updates for the 5x.
Miui compared to emui will be a personal choice.
Tbh stick a launcher like nova etc on the honor and it'll be close to stock android which Miui never will be.

The snapdragon 616 is great? What is the avg Antutu Score?

I will not try to convince you into buying anything. I'm satisfied with Redmi 3 and it suits my needs, only camera could be better for night photos. As for Snapdragon 616, it is octa core processor and it does what it should do. In single core operations it is not very fast, but in multi core task it is good. Antutu is 35K, but who cares? Battery is strongest side of this phone, for my habits of use it lasts 3 days and 10 hours of SOT (screen on time) with data and wifi always on.

A Redmi note 4 HelioX20 MIUI 8 Andriod 6 or a Redmi Note 3 Pro 3GB RAM W/ Snapdragon?

Should I purchase a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 with Helio X20 MIUI 8 with Android 6 or a Redmi Note 3 pro with Snapdragon? Even if Xiaomi releases a Note 4 with Snapdragon is there much of a difference in the 4 to wait, by chance? Seeking opinions, if I am in the wrong forum please guide me, thanks.
Always choose for Snapdragon. By my own experience.
Only take a look to the Snapdragon v/s Mediatek version dev sub-forum....
the x20 is faster, but not by much. the sd650 is proven very battery efficient
i would go for the sd too
Redmi Note 3 Pro by a long way. Unless you are happy using MIUI then RN4 may be ok. I cannot stand MIUI. Personally if you could wait then wait for the Redmi 4. Its supposed to be 5" 1080p Snapdragon 625. I am waiting for it as the RN3 Pro is too big for my hands.

The Note 4 is said to be SD 652, though I heard people still prefer the 625 for the battery.
snapdragon. period.

Yup looks like it. Time to play the waiting game for hopefully an early Christmas present :good:
Xiaomi should compete against the Samsung A9 Pro for the next Redmi Note. That has a 6" screen, dual SIM and separate MicroSD slots (no hybrid slot nonsense), 4 GB RAM and 32 GB storage.
A larger Redmi Note would be welcome, for me anyway, because a Mi Max is simply too big. I wouldn't get a Mediatek-based phone ever again after being stuck with KitKat on a Note 3G. Qualcomm are a lot more respectful of GPL issues. Anyway, I think the Helio X20 has too many small cores - these work well in benchmarks but they do nothing for real world usage.

If only Mediatek went open-source, there's a guide for the Interactive governor that will fully utilise all those cores. It'll be interesting to see how they can be tweaked to increase an already large battery life.

then u should go for Redmi series, Redmi Note series must be 5.5" screen or above...every "Note" phone shouldn't have smaller screen than 5.5"
Base on my experience in the past, I recommend you choose Qualcomm snapdragon.

This is a developer forum, not a marketplace. You can poach customers somewhere else.
Helio X20 have a little better performance in CPU and Adreno 510 burns Mali-T880 MP4 in Helio X20 and even X25.
Helio X20 CPU is 4+4+2. More like Snapdragon 615 with 2 high performance core from 650. But since XDA having far better support for Snapdragon.
If you want a better performance, go for Note 3 Snapdragon.
I'm predicting Note 4 Snapdragon will use Snapdragon 652/653 with 2/3GB Variant and a special edition with 4GB RAM will wreck any mid-range smartphone.

phone model incorrect or have I been tricked?

hi all,

Re
As long as you got the Snapdragon (Which is the Octa-core) you own what we would call the 4X, but better the MIDO.
Xiaomi is inconsistent in its naming scheme.

MIDO is the code name/production name of the Xiaomi Note 4 with snapdragon, NICKEL is the codename of the Xiaomi Note 4 with Mediatek Chip
Xiaomi released Redmi Note 4 in china with MTK. Then, because of legal problems they released Redmi Note 4 in India with SD. Since the global Redmi Note 4 was already MTK, they named the global SD variant Redmi Note 4X.
My model number is also written as Redmi Note 4. I bought it from Flipkart. I am not aware what is 4X! I just knew that Note 4 has two variants Mediatek and Snapdragon.

Difference between models?

So my girlfriend's Redmi Note 4X just broke the screen and she needs a new phone. She was so pleased with it so we wants to try Xiaomi again. However, Xiaomi's model names are so amazingly stupid so I am having trouble choosing.
The first, cheaper, option seem to be the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus.
https://www.honorbuy.com/215-xiaomi-redmi-5-plus-global-version
It is pretty cheap and seems most like the old 4X except the 18:9 screen.
The other option is the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5
https://www.honorbuy.com/218-xiaomi-redmi-note-5
This looks like a newer phone with a new camera and a new(better?) processor but still with the same screen as the Plus model.
It is also a bit more expensive and only the chinese version seem to be available.
I have seen people here talking about the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro but I can't find this model anywhere? Is it the same as Plus?
I was wondering what is the best choice? I will flash LOS on the phone, not sure if that will work on the chinese version or if that version even has support in my country?(Sweden). Which device has the most support here in the forums? Should I buy a "Global" version?
redmi 5 plus = redmi note 5 , and REDMI NOTE 5 PRO is another device
redmi 5 plus and redmi note 5 is same device, but region wise the name is different.
another model is REDMI NOTE 5 PRO with upgraded processor and dual camera, and a front camera of 20MP. I hope the confusion is clear now.

Ok, so just to confirm:
Redmi Note 5 and the Redmi Note 5 Plus is the same device, the name difference is because of regions. However these models exists in various configurations such as different amounts of RAM, storage and colors.
Redmi Note 5 PRO is a newer model with dual cameras, and new CPU.
Is the pro version even out? Because I can't find it. Then I got examples such as this: https://www.honorbuy.com/218-xiaomi-redmi-note-5
Which do have dual cameras and new cpu but no 20MP front camera.

Absolutely correct.
Pro version is availabe here in India.
One easy way to distinguish is PRO version has dual rear camera and 20MP front camera, where redmi 5 plus / redmi note 5 has single camera .

Alright! I just looked at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5px3gLUZgY and he said that the chinese version does not support Band 20, so I will probably wait until the PRO version comes out in a global version.

Redmi Note 5 (India) - vince - Redmi 5 Plus (China/Global)

It's the same phone. It simply has different names in different countries. Just make sure it's the Snapdragon version.
Depending on where you live, you may want to buy the Global version of the phone which supports more LTE bands (like band 20 in Europe).
But to be honest with you, I wouldn't buy the Note 4X anymore.
The Note 5/Note 5 Pro is already out.
The MI A1 ist basically a Note 4X with pure Android instead of MIUI and dual camera.
The Redmi 5/Redmi 5 Plus is basically a Note 4X with a 18:9 display instead of 16:9.
The new Mi 6X came out recently with a better CPU, dual cameras and MIUI.
The MI A2 (the same phone as Mi 6X but with pure Android instead of MIUI) will be announced soon.
So all roms and kernels of snapdragon will be compatible to both 4 and 4x as long its snapdragon? Thank you for the suggestions. I'll look for redmi note 5 pro

You need to buy the phone with Snapdragon 625. Depending where you life, it's called either Redmi Note 4X or Redmi Note 4 Global Edition.
Just make sure that you buy the phone with Snapdragon and not MTK (MediaTek) processor

That is good to know, However there is one thing I would like too add:
Xiaomi is very bad in the development scene, they do not provide kernel source and devices trees for developers to build custom roms or kernels, and currently the Redmi Note 4 has both, while new devices probably don't.
If you care about custom roms/kernels ( and everyone here at XDA probably do) check the device respective development threads before purchasing the device to see if there is any activity.
Since basically in my opinion MIUI is a version mess.
Check for the processor. Don't buy the Note with mediatek chipset.
