SIM unlock question (someone else has surly had a similar situation but I can't find) - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

I failed to check the imei of the s8+ I bought on let go before purchase, so I got home and realized how dumb I felt and went ahead and checked, it says it's locked to Sprint and still under financial obligation. I. Guessing he got it for cheap as a deal and decided to sell it a few days before its imei becomes no good. But still not yet fraudulent. I know if was already reported fraudulent a SIM unlock wouldn't matter because the imei would be blacklisted but being as that was/is not the case I decided I would go ahead and do an unlock (worst case scenario I'm out $13) and see what happens. Well all went well, It got unlocked and then 8 flashed the unlocked firmware onto it and have been enjoying ever since. My question is this, when the day comes that this phone is deemed fraudulent or whatever, what will this mean for me? All of a sudden it will just stop work I g because of it being blacklisted or is there a chance that with the unlock predating the fraud report it just keeps working?

[Q] Phone saying "Not registered to network". Its brand new?

Did a ton of searching and nothing seems to pertain to my situation.
I bought a brand new samsung vibrant. It was sealed in the plastic, and was not refurbished. I deal phones, and the person I got it from clearly got it on an upgraded line and sold it to me.
I know for a fact after getting to know the person and dealing with her more that what she was doing is scamming T-Mobile by going there, opening a new account, and not ever paying for it again and running away with the phone. I discovered this when she left an active sim card in a box that had a months worth of service on it.
I sold the phone, and the guy said it says "Not registered to network"
I go to search for the network and says SIM will not let me connect. Like i said the phones brand new, never used, never unlocked, never tampered with. The other 4 phones she gave me were all fine, except this one. Clearly not dealing with the lady anymore, but wanna atleast be able to cut my losses to break even.
Thanks!
Have you tried use other sim card or try factory reset?
yes i tried both

[Q] Simunlocking Atrix (with subsidy code), non stock ROMs

Hi there! I know I'm about to ask something stupid.
I've owned and modded a Defy for almost 2 years, and today I got a second hand MB860 (I found that you call it Atrix 4G; here we've got no 4G for the time being, so it is just an "Atrix"). The fact is that it's still simlocked, and in a few months I might need to ask the guy who buyed it a the phone company to ask there for the subsidy code, or pay someone to give it to me.
One of the guys who unlocks cell phones over here, in a forum, has said that it is necessary for the phone to have the Stock ROM at the moment of entering the subsidy code. Honestly I didn't believe him, I've always been convinced that there is no way for the ROM to interfere at the moment of simunlocking a cell phone. Am I wrong? At the moment of introducing the subsidy code, does it need something special? I've been searching here, but found nothing yet.
The problem about this is that that guy says "Ok, if you don't want to believe me, don't do it. Try it on another ROM, but I won't give your money back if my subsidy code just doesn't work". I wouldn't like to lose 25 USD without the possibility of complaining to the guy, and I'm a bit curious about what he says.
Thanks in advance!
Hey i recently unlocked my atrix on a rom that isnt stock. It shouldn't matter which rom you use. What i did was call AT&Ts wireless department. I didnt know which specific department i needed so i waited until i was transferred to a real person and told them I needed to unlock my phone which had been under contract with them a long time ago. I was actually never in a contract with them as the phone was a gift but they didnt ask any firther questions. So they transferred me. Told me to give them the IMEI number and told me to wait while they look it up. They then instructed me to put a sim card from another company to get the sim unlock prompt to popup. I put in the code they gave me and i succesfully unlocked my atrix. I did this on monday and used a tmobile sim i had lying around. I was given the code within 10 mins. Best of luck

Thanks! I think I will keep reading a little so as to mod it (I found the Atrix a little bit riskier than the Defy) and then unlock it.
There is always the option of flashing stock again, but I'd like to avoid it .

Is my LG V10 unlocked?

About 2 months ago I cancelled my T-Mobile account after some bad experiences with them. I had my LG V10 on lease with them, not yet fully paid. At the same time I convinced the representative to unlock my phone so I could switch to another carrier. I asked her if I needed to do anything and she said no, she can do it remotely, then told me it was all done. My phone was under some old guarantee that I could continue paying off the phone monthly instead of all at once (apparently that's since vanished, and they have no record of that guarantee ever existing. Figures.)
Anyway, I was happy to have an unlocked phone. But a few weeks ago I got a letter asking me to pay up the remaining balance or be sent to a collection agency. I couldn't, so they did. Yesterday I called T-Mobile to find out if my phone was unlocked and they said that since my account was closed and in collection, they couldn't check or tell me, and to call the agency. I did, and the collection rep didn't seem to want to give me a straight answer. His answers were (paraphrasing): "There's some things T-Mobile doesn't want us telling you (the consumer); "I'm going to choose my words carefully"; and, If you pay off your balance T-Mobile may unlock your phone." He repeated the last one whenever I asked additional questions. I figure he could've just said no, your phone is not unlocked.
So I'm thinking that since my phone was remotely unlocked by T-Mobile just before closing my account, that it's still unlocked and they just don't want to confirm it to me for fear that I may not pay them back as fast. My question is, if T-Mobile unlocked my phone before closing my account, could they re-lock it, wven without an active account? Also, could the rep have lied to me about having unlocked my phone?
By the way, I can't do the SIM swap trick because everyone I know uses micro sim and my phone uses a nano sim. Also there isn't a cell store anywhere near me.
Oh, I did an IMEI check online on Swappa and it said Activation Status: Clear, not blacklisted, and identified my phone as either LG V10 (T-Mobile) or LG V10 (Unlocked). Not sure what that means. Did a check on another site and under carrier code it said T-Mobile, and carrier code TMO.
Did you get your phone from tmobile? Aka model h901? It should have the tmobile unlock app already installed which will tell you if it's unlocked or eligible to be unlocked. They would have told you to use it to unlock it in the first place.
Also, a collection agency isn't going to know anything about tmobile services, they'll say anything to get your money. It's a completely separate company.
I'd be more worried that tmobile blacklisted your imei rather than having it locked since you didn't pay off your lease.

LG V30 H932 Won't Permanently Unlock

Hello my LG V30 H932 will not Permanently Unlock. The phone was paid off in full and I waited 40days like Tmobile requirements want. The phone which was brand new was replaced due to a malfunction with the display. So they gave me a warranty exchanged phone. And i have had trouble unlocking the phone ever since. Tmobile ended up giving me 2 more warranty exchanged phones thinking that this would finally solve the problem with the unlock. And after trying and trying the phone will not unlock despite being on the phone with Tmobile tech support for weeks (they tried everything from Manager Overrides, whitelisting the IMEI, putting the phone through escalation, etc) and they still were not able to unlock my phone. The Device Unlock App keeps saying "unlock failed". Finally Tmobile suggested using a third party online unlocking service which they even paid for and still this unlocking service wasn't able to unlock my phone.
Has anyone else ever had a problem with Tmobile not being able to permanently unlock their phone via Device Unlock App? I keep telling Tmobile i think it's because the phone is a warranty exchanged phone and this is why it's not working. But they said no that shouldn't cause any issues. Anyone else know what I could do to get the phone unlocked? Highly appreciate any advice and help and thank you for your time.
No issues with mine. T-Mobile sent me the unlock the day I bought my device (paid in full) and no issues usings other carrier SIM's in it.
Had two v30 with the same issue. For me allowing the unlock app to access all the permissions fixed it for me.

Yes I have all permissions allowed and still not working.
Before i got my LG V30 replaced with the warranty exchanged one (bc of the display malfunction that i had) the phone did permanently unlock for me. On the Brand New Lg V30 it unlocked just fine. Then when they sent the warranty exchanged v30 it would not unlock anymore. I think the problem is with the warranty exchanged phones. Just my thought.

You are probably correct, but that's an internal T-mobile issue. They have it so locked down even that 3rd party unlocking service can't touch it. I find it amusing they actually paid for a 3rd party unlocking service for you. That was them admitting they really screwed it up.
Okay today i called Tmobile one more time to ask about my IMEI. I wanted to make sure that the IMEI was in good standing. And that it was not on anyone else's account by mistake. Everything looked good. After explaining my situation again for the 100th time, the account specialist said she can transfer me to their Advanced Technical Support Team which Tmobile has never tried before. She also was perplexed bc on their end my phone says it is eligible to be unlocked. Anyway After speaking with the representative she said she would submit my case for escalation with their Technical Engineers. This we have never done. So in afew days i should hear back from them and i hope and pray that finally the phone will be able to Unlock Permanently! If not then there is nothing else i can do. I have tried what seems like everything. Unless anyone from XDA has the solution! Updates coming soon.
Also i want to add that at one point a technical support representative said that they will request that they replace my phone with a new one and not warranty exchanged one. He said he can't guarantee that tmobile will approve of this but he would try anyway. But of course i did not receive a new phone but the warranty exchanged phone instead. I just think tmobile could have tried harder to compensate me some how, but no nothing. But i think if after the technical engineers get back to me and still the phone won't unlock i am going to tell tmobile that i will file a complaint about this. And even share on social media how they have failed me. I will also tell them that I'm really disappointed that they didn't offer me any compensation for this situation. Tmobile has failed big time and what are they going to do about it??? Most likely nothing..
@michy21: This is troubling for sure. I gather you must still be with T-Mobile (or you wouldn't be able to use your SIM locked H932).
I too unlocked my TMO V30+ after 2 months using the Device Unlock app, and switched to an AT&T MVNO. T-Mobile reception is terrible inside our apartment, so I had no choice. But I worry what will happen if I need warranty repair (my screen just got a dead pixel today) or even after OS updates. T-Mobile probably won't grant unlock again without me being a subscriber.
They treated me horrible when I ported out, and I swore I'll never go back to them -- too bad because I really liked T-Mobile up till then, and would've come back when they roll out Band 71 in our area. So yes, this worries me.
I'll be quite interested to hear the outcome of your story.
You know I feel your pain. I bought a V10 off swappa a couple years ago and the same thing happened to me. There's a thread in the tmo V10 section where I listed the direct contact info of a lady named Jennifer I believe. She was the one to finally help me and make it happen and is quite high up with tmo. I went through all the same crap as you for months. She's the one to help you. Everyone else is useless no matter how much they will tell you otherwise. Give me a few minutes to find the thread.
Oh and I actually filed a complaint with the FCC . You need to do that ASAP too.

Good luck. FCC should be your priority. I highly advise you to word in such a way that portrays them as "unwilling or refusing to unlock a device that meets the criteria". That will get a better response and they will want to fix that to be able to close the ticket. You gotta play dirty a bit. That's what I did and it worked quite well.

I just finished filing the complaint and emailed jennifer. Hope to hear from someone soon!
I just got done talking to Nicole from the executive office at Tmobile. She called me regarding my complaint I filed to the FCC. And she couldn't get my phone to unlock, but she said she is going to send me an Unlocked phone instead. It's not brand new but a warranty exchanged one that is in excellent condition. So finally I'm happy with the outcome.

well... i think i got burned*

starting to think i got burned but not going to bother going any further if thats the case but i recently was traded a sprint variant for some work i had done(taking too long to get payment) so i settled for the phone as compensation, i was there when he reset the device so i have complete access however when i put in my att sim i get a sim unreadable/not recognized msg and in settings i find out that its sprint, i checked the imei on swappa and it said good but i am unsure as to weather i can have it unlocked as i dont really want to pay more(than my time) to get this working. any advice?? much appreciated
You might try calling Sprint about the unlock status of the phone, or better yet, have the person that gave you the phone call Sprint and request an unlock. I actually don't know how unlocking works with Sprint. Otherwise I think you might be looking at paying for an unlock service to get it done.
Sorry to bother you all I got thru to a tech who unlocked it withing fifteen minutes, thanks Spr*nt
