which honor 9 model? - Honor 9 Questions & Answers

Hi. I have a galaxy s8+ which I am thinking of selling to get this phone - mainly because of treble support and the s8+ is too big! I was going to get the 6gb/128gb version which is great value on ali express. I know the Chinese version doesn't have band 20 but that doesn't matter on EE in the UK.
However I wanted to check whether there are other issues with not getting the European version of the honor 9? Does the Chinese version support the new aosp treble based Rom the devs have built? The thread seems vague on this issue. Other there any other issues with the Chinese version?

As far as i'm aware, you can actually re brand the Chinese variant to EU.
Not sure if the version of android on it has Google Play services, or an English language selection, but language packs can be downloaded.
BUT! you will get the OS updates before us lot with EU versions.... who are still stuck on B182, China have got B360 which is oreo.
Either way, its a good buy, destroys the s8 in benchmarks, and just the right size to not be too small or too big in the hand.

AL00
AL10
TL10
I've got an AL00 rebranded to L09 and it's working great, like an European model but without LTE BANDS 7(2600) & 20(800).

Thanks for the responses. I thought the Chinese variants of the honor 9 were the same as Xiaomi - only missing band 20? I'm on EE which doesn't need band 20 but I believe does need 2600mhz (band 7). Any ideas? Thanks

You could change phone version on this link, I think LTE BANDS are corrects but there is errors on size and colors.

I wouldn't expect huawei to use a different LTE chip in each phone, that would require 2 different versions of the kirin 960, which wouldn't be in the interests of the development cost of the phone.

I'd like it to be true.
Do baseband is inside Kirin 960 cpu chip or in another chip?
The way I see it they ship differents variations with differents nand & ram sizes, so maybe they could switch others things without adding tremendous producing cost.
Or they are the same but phoned still keep their original LTE bands over the publicly available rebranding guides.

Confused about China vs Global

Hi all,
I'm considering getting a Redmi Note 3 (Snapdragon version/Pro). I'm a little confused about the bands that it supports. When I check wellmyphonework.net it says that the Global model will work on LTE Band 4, but the China/Unicom one will not. Looking in the forums I see Global and China Roms, but nothing definitive about separate physical models.
Is the hardware all the same(ignoring RAM/Storage variations)? Do the supported bands depend solely on which ROM is installed? If there are distinct hardware versions is there any way to tell which one I would get from ebay or AliExpress?

The lte band support is hardware dependant, software doesn't matter.
I've bought mine with China global and lte is working fine in Europe.

That's simply not true. The SD650 supports Band 4 which is what he's asking about. Europe doesn't use Band 4 and all the versions support European lte bands. On another thread here a user with AT&T was getting lte on the vendor rom and changed to the Global rom and now only gets H+. I too would like to know which version of the phone I have.

Possible to enable additional LTE bands on KIW-L24?

I was wondering if the Honor 5X was capable of having additional LTE bands enabled, specifically bands 3 and 8? According to GSM Arena, the non-US versions of this phone support that band. I've seen that some other phones, such as the old Nexus could have additional bands added.
I'm a newbie to phone hardware, so apologies if this is a dumb question.
I'd like to know the answer to this question too. I found this thread on the very same topic, but for the Nexus 5. It serves as a good place to gather relevant info, and learn about the problem.
What I've gathered so far is that a phone needs a couple pieces of hardware (Radio Frequency Front End components Filters and Power Amplifier Module) to enable a particular LTE band. We can find this information if we have a service manual. Do you know if we have one available for KIW-L24?
If the hardware is available, we may be able to enable it by editing an Android OS system file (not exactly sure yet).
If that doesn't work, we'll have to edit the qualcomm radio firmware, enable the bands, and flash it back to the device. I think we'll need to find some leaked software from qualcomm to do this (QRCT-TOOLS-NV Manager or something)
I have this same problem. but Flashing it with another region firmware say Indian version of honor 5x that has band 3 and 8 will it work? I learnt the American version has it but locked.
I support this question too. I would be very grateful with the one capable of answering it. If the hardware in different versions of the phone is exactly the same, then one should be able to, at least, enable all the bands supported by those different versions.
Did any of you have a solution for this?
I am also looking for having/unlocking additonal bands on the device.

As of my knowledge, Honor 5x doesn't have capability to support additional bands from the hardware perspective. Thats why each region has each build with different model number supporting their respective region bands.

Non sense , when you said that it's like saying huawei built each honor 5x with different hardware which is not true only the Kiw-AL10 is different, the LTE bands are just locked on each device.
I think you will need some huawei honor support to know at least which hardware antenna is present in your kiw_l24.
I guess with google you can not find the hardware layout of honor 5x or which component is installed.
There are two cases:
1/ hardware antenna for a specific band is present but not used (usecase: for certain country, Constructor is validating only the corresponding bands)
--> you can here flash a firmware from another country to be able to use these bands
2/hardware antenna for a specific band is not present
--> you can do nothing
You can try to flash firmware from other country (l22 formware which support band 3 and 8) but i guess it might brick your phone.

I personally don't experience hissing on this phone. As far as issues, it involves the OTA from Vendor Roms which bricked some devices. You can check your ROM version and cross reference it with the ones on the Mi website to make sure. Aside from that, I don't see anything wrong with the phone.
Hi, I'm also considering to buy Note 5 and I just wanted to say that I don't have that problem with Note 4, it doesn't mean much since I don't use N5 but I think there is very very little chance for hissing issue in any device produced in 2017.

Hi, when I purchased seller offer also a global variant for 40 usd more.
Many people confuse about global device version and global firmware that it´s not the same.
You just have to pay special attention to the bands that is enabled, the global version has more bands enabled, by i.e my version that is a non global doesn´t have LTE bands 2 (1900) nor 4 (1700/2100) it mean that in my country it can´t work on 4G (of course I bought it so it is cause I didn´t need). This is the main difference.

I really don't understand because my device is working with the B4 (1700) band but it is not a real Global version. :silly:

Why do you say that has B4? Where you saw it?
Look at this info, just 4G apparted, this is a non-global version from a chinese seller you can find these specs;
4G FDD LTE B5:850 /B8:900 /B3:1800 /B1:2100 /B7:2600
TD LTE B38:2600 /B39:1900/ B40:2300 /B41:2500 MHz
TD or TDD is the LTE FOR China, look up FDD LTE bands.
And this is a Global version, seller usually put in a red highlighted the bands added

TD LTE B38:2600 / B40:2300

No, if your device hasn´t these two added bands definitely it´s not a global version (global rom concept mean nothing for this) is a hardware limitation although can work within 4G depending on your company carrier in some of the 5 frequencies enabled.
I have a Chinese RN5, it has loads of bands dudes. The chance of it not working on your network are slim.
As for the headphones dilemma, they do not hiss or produce low volume. Altho if you pair them with Xiaomi Pro HD which have a high impedance then you will notice a lack in volume. That can be easily fixed with Dolby Atmos the Magisk Module.

Purchased Honor 10 COL-L29 8.1.0.130(C636) No LTE on ATT

Hey guys any help with this would be amazing. I grabbed this for really cheap the other day and thought it would be able to use ATT LTE since others have had success but no matter what it will only connect to H+ even when LTE finder finds the band I wanted. Really frusted as I thought I got the right model. There is only ONE international one right? Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks you guys. Hopefully I didn't mess up and get a wrong version or something though I can return it if I did.

What I can't understand or just not knowing is the amazon version I have does 1,3,5,8 and up but the listings on Ebay have them 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,12 etc...basically all bands which I can't seem to figure out. Is there a difference? I have the UK model which is the Worldwide model not the chinese one but are there OTHER regional differences that unlock more bands? Is there a way to manually force this if so? I figured return to amazon and then get the ebay version but that is stupid if they are incorrect and they really dont' cover 2,4,5,12 for ATT that is needed.

I searched around today and found this. Scroll down to the connectivity part and you see that the phone supports 1 of 5 ATT LTE bands, and 0 of 5 T-Mobile LTE bands. However, I'm not sure if this information is accurate since my phone detects a neighboring band 4 LTE cell tower (which my old phone instantly connected to), but does not connect to it. Also, why is the rest of the forum quiet about this issue? Is it really just me and you that are experiencing it (or that live in the US)? I also am very confused why Huawei removed the USSD code menu option wherein you could force it to LTE. I've heard that changing something in the build.prop can force it, but you need to be rooted for that, and I've gotten bored of rooting phones lol (and the risks involved).
Luckily, for me, this isn't that big of a problem as data still works (albeit slowly), and in the beginning of September I'll be in France for at least a year. So, I made sure that this phone's bands matched up with what the carriers are on in France, so hopefully I should be fine. Otherwise, it's a sleek, awesome phone.
Honor 10 isnt made for US and US bands, even if its the global version. The bands in US are different from those in EU or Asia.
As the guy above confirmed this, the it has just one LTE compatbile band at ATT.

Yeap its a bit dead end without unlocking the bootloader. I dont know if by building and compiling original firmware from released sources and make the changes there, if it would allow you to install it.
Yes I too can pick up band 4 on LTE finder on my phone but I cannot use it, if I could then I would have fine coverage. If I go 5 miles away the other half of the city has full ATT LTE 5 coverage so I was bummed LOL when I went up there and saw full bars LTE+ LOL. Yeah the ebay guys are just putting false info then. I have my bootloader code to unlock as I have done to my V10 but not sure how that would enable the other band 4 I need. I don't have quite that much experience.
I don't know if there is something comparable to this available to be done (since Honor 10 has a Kirin and not a qualcomm), but I'm just going to leave this here for now.

I don't know if Honor went the route of having a few more lte bands and just disabling them in software since my phone does detect band 4 lte, but can't connect to it, but what do I know.
I have the same issue on t-mobile network.
From all the research i did it looks like the US bands are software locked. P20 supports all LTE bands (including US) and it runs on the same chipset, Kirin 970. Also as few people said, they are able to see band 4 in LTE discovery (and other apps), I can see it as well, but can't connect.
As for the software to unlock lte bands, there is nothing like that for Kirin right now.
The only option for now is to find the right modem files, edit them and flash to the device. At least that's the only thing that comes to my mind.
I'm digging through source files, which were released by Huawei, whenever i have a chance, but i'm not even sure what I'm looking for.
really sucks because of all the phones I have (a lot LOL) this is by far my favorite one to use, the way the backing was slightly curved and everyting is just perfect except for that pesky LTE issue. I know they are software locked like you said but have no way of getting it unlocked. I hve picked up LTE 4 here as well but cannot use it at all. I can get full 4g LTE when I drive 5 five miles up the road LOL but only 3g+ here at my home which is the issue. Argggg.....i have about a week left before i have to return it or keep it so I'm on the fence. My honor v10 with 970 has all bands, and my P20 lite has all LTE bands too I just don't get it.

This is my favorite too. I guess Huawei really just wants to push the more pricier p20's in the U.S, even though they aren't really in the U.S. market to begin with anymore. With very similar specs to the P20 pro, the honor 10 would easily take away sales from the P20. Can't stop gearbest though, lol. Anyways, the extent of my modification to an android device was decompiling a rom (I think?), editing in specific MCC/MNC values for an AT&T MVNO in a certain file, recompiling it and flashing it to get 4gLTE back, since my phone thought it was roaming. I'm assuming the software-locked band information is a lot harder to find (or fix). I'm keeping my fingers crossed that HajmeR or others manage to find what we're looking for-maybe I'll even give it a go.

I have a Chinese Honor 10 (COL-AL10) which I rebranded to COL-L29 C432 by adjusting (not completely replacing) oeminfo, more precisely by carefully editing model number etc. Everything works well, but I noticed that the device does not connect to LTE band 20 towers that are in my neighborhood - even though I can connect to them when I put my sim card into a different phone. The Chinese COL-AL10 does not have band 20, so this lock or unavailability of band 20 seems to have survived the rebranding. A real COL-L29 C432 would be able to connect to band 20.
So, to investigate this further, one would have to study the oeminfo partition of a real COL-L29 C432 and investigate where information on the available LTE bands is stored - if this piece of information is hidden in the oeminfo partition. I can share the oeminfo of the COL-AL10 but have to make sure that my IMEI number cannot be extracted from it.
yeah i got my refund already from amazon and looking for a replacement, I don't like phones that are 72 mm or wider they are hard to hold, so my view 10 is tough at 75 mm..........the lg g7 is only 71 mm wide and 6.1 screen which is incredible but VERY pricey and it's LG, we know how they are on updates of ANY kind. I have the P20 lite too, which get's every single band in the USA on GSM, I don't get why the honor 10 was hampered so much because I'm not gonna buy the more expensive P20 i've used one and they are not nearly as nice feeling as the honor 10, the body is totally different not curved at all on back and feels like crap.
So the search is on, lenovo has an 845 with samsung super AMOLED on amazon for 450 with 6 gig RAM and 64 ROM and all the other bells and whistles edcept it's not glass on back which is actually like. I really really wanted the nokia 6.1 plus which is perfect in every way except once again 1,3,5, bands only LOL. So not go again. The Xiaomi A2 lite is interesting, metal back, 4000 ma battery which is insanely big, but then only 2.4 wifi and microusb LOL? 625 processor but only 200 bucks so really a good value and get's every band like the p20 lite.

with respect to the Honor 6X, it seems that altering the oeminfo partition (https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x/help/debrand-to-enable-lte-bands-indian-t3663359) can make a difference with respect to allowed LTE bands.
I have a Chinese Honor 10 (COL-AL10) which I rebranded to COL-L29 C432 by adjusting (not completely replacing) oeminfo, more precisely by carefully editing model number etc. Everything works well, but I noticed that the device does not connect to LTE band 20 towers that are in my neighborhood - even though I can connect to them when I put my sim card into a different phone. The Chinese COL-AL10 does not have band 20, so this lock or unavailability of band 20 seems to have survived the rebranding. A real COL-L29 C432 would be able to connect to band 20.
So, to investigate this further, one would have to study the oeminfo partition of a real COL-L29 C432 and investigate where information on the available LTE bands is stored - if this piece of information is hidden in the oeminfo partition. I can share the oeminfo of the COL-AL10 but have to make sure that my IMEI number cannot be extracted from it.

Hope this camera beats Galaxy S7 as thats the only reason to change phone at the first place.

Do you have an unlocked bootloader? Otherwise, you cannot read out the oeminfo partition.
I'm sorry I don't have it right now. Maybe I'll root this later on then or can I lock the bootloader again?

Wouldn't you need to pay a third party to unlock it at this point? Or do you keep an unlock code obtained earlier from the days when huawei handled bootloader unlocking? Just wondering. I've kind of learned to suck it up at this point since I'm no longer in the US, so the band issues only affect me when traveling back. However, if there is anyone out there with an unlocked bootloader that can share the oeminfo/know how to understand it, it would be nice to finally figure out if this really is a hardware issue or a software lock.

Question Regional Model variants and their respective frequencies?

Does anyone have an authoritative link or source for the different S23 ultra regional model variants and their respective bandwidth frequencies such as for 4g and 5g?
Can't find this information for any including the USA variant eg which specific frequencies of 4g and 5g does the USA model support?
The chipset and x70 modem makes it possible for this phone to truly be a global phone but.....
asking the same as well, cant find these details.
Here's hoping that the band unlock methods for the s22's and s21's also work on the s23's.

I'm sure it will be the same to unlock the bands, no one will really know until they have one in hand.
Can you elaborate on these band unlock methods?
And could they unlock mmwave for example on the international variants so that 5g could work in US? And unlock international bands on US version so it could work everywhere else?

So basically you could enter the service menu and turn on all the extra bands?
In that case wouldn't the US version be the best one to have since it would have mmwave hardware baked in too? It should then work everywhere.
Though it sounds like you'll lose the function on os updates and resets?

OS updates from Samsung are never fast. Doing so once every 2 to 3 months isn't so bad for the extra band support.
Samsung's modem software works well for the US and Canada because the hardware is the same and only the modem software separates the bands based on carrier/region. Due to the wide spread of mess across North America, US and Canadian models are always a good choice for potential band support. In some cases though, mixed ROM's can also bridge the support. In the S9 days, you could.jeep.the base.for.your region but flash the carrier side of the firmware to unlock band 71 on some overseas models. I don't know if this is still possible today but with all devices being very similar. I am hoping the hardware, including dual-SIM pins on the main board, will be there to enable through a firmware change or mod.
Do we know if the international dual sim variant has the same USA hardware based on s22/21/20?
Does it have mmwave baked in but just disabled by software?
I am still not clear what 5G bands are supported on the SM-S918BZKPEUB, nor if unlocking the bands through the service menu works. @UK S23, your deliveries are in place already, has anyone tried?
It seems as though the bands might only be disabled in software? If so, then it should be possible to enable whatever band you need. The only exception would be if a hardware component is needed or missing then it wouldn't be possible which likely wouldn't be the case for your 3g, 4g and 5g standard range. Maybe only 5g mmwave which is essentially only in US anyway.
If that's the case it sounds like US variant might be the best to get for global coverage barring lack of dual sim (though it does have physical+esim).

Samsung's band support is mostly software, at least when it comes to 4G and 5G. I have never bothered to change 2G and 3G bands because there is no use for them unless you are in a very rural area or roaming. This is why it is so easy to convert the North American models and why in the days of the S9+, you could get band 71 on international models with dual-SIM.

I'm not sure when it comes to mmWave. You can enable it on the W for Canada even though the cell coverage and technologies used up there are probably never going to deploy it. Overseas, I have no idea.

I've read that the US and CA models are basically identical so that might explain it. It's also possible I suppose that in s23 since it uses x70 modem, which has native support built in, that all model variants might be able to do it but for software. Though we won't know for sure till someone from different region goes into their service menu and checks.
mmWave requires a specific antenna to function. This antenna used to cost like $50 but I'd be surprised if it's gone down much beyond $30 so manufacturers will still leave it out if it's not necessary.

Thanks and that probably means it likely won't be in other region variants.
Personally, I'd just make a single phone that is globally universal and can be used everywhere. The massive scale should drop the component pricing considerably. Carrier exclusives and market restrictions if any needed in software only. But that's just me lol.

Yes, you would think they would do this, but Samsung has always customized difference models for different regions so it must not be that straightforward. I believe that regulatory bodies would require them to test and submit all the documentation for that extra antenna, for example. It also wouldn't surprise me if the mmWave equipment is outright banned in some regions either for whatever reason.

No. There are 5 different models of iPhone 14 Pro Max, for example, and each will have different band configurations.
That said, the NA models have the most complete bands of any device released so far this year and it was released last year with an older modem. They even have support for Dish Network's n70, a band exclusive to them worldwide, something Samsung didn't even choose to support on their NA variant this year despite having a contract with Dish for radio equipment supporting that band.
I actually think the NA iPhone 14 Pro models support every commercially available band worldwide but I don't really keep up on bands not used in the US.
