0xffffffff error when I'm trying to flash my mido with Snap - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

Hello.
I've got a new phone in my hands, which is named Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X (Snapdragon one).
As always I've tried to unlock it because stock roms just sucks.
I wasn't able to unlock my phone with Mi Unlock after getting a positive answer to verification via request (stuck on 99%). I've later found here, that this could be caused by trying to unlock my phone on stock rom, updated to MIUI 9.1.2.5 (9. something, not sure about last digits). So I've learned few things, mostly on xda-dev, as well as my homegrown page about xiaomi phones (mostly from this link -> https://miuipolska.pl/forum/topic/9218-odblokowywanie-bootloadera-w-urządzeniach-xiaomi-poradnik/).
Since I cannot put phone in adb fastboot edl mode (it's being seen by pc and adb, after the command it just reset itself, instead of staying in edl mode), Mi Flash does not work in 2018 (not sure why they drop it), I've decided to use fastboot mode and miflash.
Problem is when I enter the program, plug in my phone in default fastboot mode and start the work, after 3-5 sec I get error 0xffffffff with an option "flash all".
My rom (newest version of rom, taken from this link -> http://en.miui.com/a-234.html) is unpacked twice (to version with "images" folder), I've set it on my C:/ drive in catalogs without any blank spaces between the letters (these things made by clicking space button).
My phone is successfully connected with my mi account (I'm using it since I've got Mi Band2, so it is not so fresh).
My MiCloud synchro is online and up to date. I cannot make verification of that account, however (I'm not a bloody Chinese and I just do not understand their letters and language), but when I checked my account on PC, I've got 100 points (max) for security.
My phone, mail address and phone number are all known to our Chinese friends.
Debugging USB is also not a problem since I've double checked all of that.
I also tick the option for changing bootloader or OEM (somewhere over there in dev options). I even get extra permissions for debugging, that requires triple clicking "ok", due to the danger of being tricked by some skilled hax0rz.
I even deleted my extra security unlocking (both fingerprint and X letter made from dots) to make sure fastboot unlocking will work (this could have been the case in some...cases, as mentioned here -> https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-4/help/bootloader-unlocked-99-stuck-progress-t3651303).
What else could I do to make sure my phone will be finally unlocked and rooted? I cannot do it with a locked phone, I cannot install TWRP on a locked phone (which prevents from getting root access). To get an unlocked phone, I need to install custom rom. To get a custom rom I need to install it via fastboot. Since I cannot do so, I'm stuck (if I understand it correctly).
I've checked *.txt file in a main rom folder, it's said "mido", and given version is 8.1.2.5 from 25th of January 2018.
Thank You for any kind of help, I've tried to download it for the second time (somehow, the names of the archives are different, but I'm not sure if that could be the case).
Also, this information might be needed – my phone is Redmi Note 4X 4/64, so I cannot use rom for 3+32GB, which is listed there also.

How long has it been since you applied for permissions? I've had the same problem (stuck at 99%) but i casually waited. If it has been more than 3 weeks then try applying again. There isn't any workaround other than using mi unlock.
What do you mean that xiaomi dropped mi unlock?

I've been waiting for...24 hours? Maybe some more. At first, I even gave them a wrong model of my phone (lol), then I've tried for the second and third. For some reason, when I changed my Xiaomi account name to my full name and surname with "_" sign, they refuse to request to go through. But with only my name (I've assumed that there are so f...ing many Rafals on the entire world, they wouldn't know which one is it) it went well and I get the code really quick (less than 24h).
I've read somewhere yesterday (don't remember now) that Mi Suite (which could be used for older phones) is no longer supported. It failed to seen my phone with stock rom, updated via OTA to MIUI 9.2.1.0 NCFMIEK, says that I need to upgrade my phone (lol x2). But mi unlock works fine, apart from that 0xffffffff error. If I've typed about Mi Unlock that it sucks, it was my mistake.
Also, I've noticed, that pack changed since yesterday and devs added new pack from 1st of Feb. It also came with a different name, so maybe that was the reason why I was confused.
OR, now that I'm thinking – I'm not able to properly use MiFlash, since less than 48 hours passed by since my last 99% try on Mi Unlock? Could it be the case, when I do not need to log in in first application?

Hi, first i feel your pain and can associate with you, had similar problem with unlocking bootloader. I had stuck 99% issue.
Try few things, wait at least 5 - 7 days to try again(i know, waiting is pain in a** but you need to do that). When you get approved for unlocking its unfortunately doesn't mean you can immediately unlock you need to wait few more days to be "recorded" on xiaomi severs.
Meantime, have logged mi account, feel up all details in miui account info section in your phone. Enable micloud, make sync atleast once sms/calendar/ call history etc. Make atleast one complete system backups into micloud.
Also crucial part is to have mi "find device" features enabled on your phone, you can freely disable after when you succeed with unlocking.
Log into your micloud on pc(not on phone browser), be careful where you log in, you need to login into English micloud site if you made miui English account.
When you are logged in go to find device feature on site, check if you can see own phone on theirs micloud map.
Check on micloud if you have maybe more devices linked, if you wish you can remove other phones and live only your redmi note 4.
After atleast 5 days, try again but this time, do crucial steps: find device enabled, go to miui English site, log into account, on main page near "unlock" section is "download" section, click and download mi unlock tool.
Stay loged into miui site on pc, run unlock tool and try again.
I had issue with unlocking, after doing all of this managed to finally unlock bootloader.
In short:
You need to wait few more days(5 atleast). Fill all details in miui account on phone and do also on miui site/forum account.
Sync your phone, make backups on micloud.
Enable mi cloud find my device service on phone.
Check if debugging mode is enabled and oem unlock turned on.
Remove pin/pattern lock and fingerprints unlocking feature.
Be logged in on mi account on phone, also on pc browser.
Try to unlock it.

Ok, so after this cool reply I've got two more things to consider:
1. Checking that locate my device feature – done. I've got this option enabled on my RN4X, but I've not checked it on my pc. Now it's done, and I'm remembered (I hope so) on the page with localization feature.
2. Being logged on pc page when unlocking using Mi Unlock. Isn't the logging in this app enough?
Also, one more thing – how do I check, how much time I need to wait before next unlocking try? Mi Unlock does not show that (amount of hours, that can be seen on unsuccessful attempt). And I do not want to screw something up. Quick checking my account for permissions to unlock has been done successfully since no errors were shown.
E: I've already added my account (with mobile transfer and wi-fi at the same time, so it has to be sent!) on programming options, under the "Mi lock status" or something like that. I don't think that spamming this option will change anything.

1. Have it enabled till you successfully unlock bootloader. Please, check if you can see your device on micloud map. Also check how many devices are linked to that micloud account.
2. Not 100% sure do you need to be online in both, but it helped me.
No need to spam that "mi lock status" button.
Don't forget to make some system backup on micloud and aditional sms/call history etc.
Also fill up account details on your phone under "mi account" section.
About time to pass, so you can try mi unlock tool, isn't define... Unfortunately there you can't be sure when you will be in chance to successfully unlock bootloader... That's xiaomi philosophy, they don't want procedure to be easy and smooth ride.
Some rule of thumbs is to wait atleast 7 to 10 days... I tried after 5 days again.
I hope this info's helped a little.

Yes it is. I've seen myself on map in pinpoint location, so they got it right. There's only one device (RN4X), so no need to be bothered.
I've already made a backup and trying to have everything as much up to date as possible. Most likely I'll end up with few hours of configuration anyway (due to highly custom apps of mine, I just dislike things like default gallery, default music player, default homescreen etc).
On my phone everything is fulfilled (apart from verification, but I'm not a Chinese and I will not be able 2D so. I'm not gonna give them my ID scan (they didn't recognise it anyway, so xD) or my account (they say that it's not supported anyway)).
Now I just need to wait 2 more days, since there might be 72 hours delay (according to this site -> https://miuipolska.pl/forum/topic/9218-odblokowywanie-bootloadera-w-urządzeniach-xiaomi-poradnik/, point 6.5. and "quote" box) between getting permissions and actually being able to do anything.
Not sure, why Chinese are doing such weird things with their stuff. Even UMI C Note (which has next to nothing support on internet) or QCONG C1391 (I'm gonna root it soon) are much easier to bypass. Even with Mediatek. I don't get it, but if I bought it, I'll have to live with it, right?
I'll most likely come back on Monday to try it harder again. I also knew now, that MiFlash is backup option, in case of my phone being dead. Knowing my skill and troubles with android phones since old LG GT540 I might need that knowledge later (hope not, but still). I actually never made a proper flash from the begging until the end in first try with guides. RN4X is just another example of that xD.
I'll post my next results there soon.

Agree, xiaomi complicating things to the maximum and they aren't alone. Most popular excuse is that locked bootloader = secure device, but i like to have choice to have less secure but complete control on product which i payed.
Forgot to say, someone also mentioned that you leave phone on and connected to Internet when you run mi unlock tool and signing into account on mi tool and then you connect phone into pc usb port when tool ask you.
Whish you luck with it and you're welcome to post how it went after.

Ohh man, yes mi suite is really like (un)useful, i mean it never detected my device. Well it's been only 48 hours? Wait man, just wait. Xiaomi sent me a Chinese email with the dl link of mi unlock in 3 days, but the actual server sided permission, (without which you get stuck at 99%) came to me after a week. And I just noticed it when i like casually thought that, let's see if it works. Andds BAMMM it did. When the permission is granted it is 35-50-75-90-99-100% with no pause at all. So the thing is wait. Check out some guides till then, so you can prepare yourself to make mido the ultimate device lol

Do You mean chinese language mail to your mail connected with mi account? I didn't get that one yet, I didn't even get any permission other than sms.
It starts to look like one of these memes in web, which said "OP will surely delivered, I'll just wait", together with skeleton in front of the PC.

Once again, my mistake – got it two days back, before I even started "fun". I'll try to unlock using MiUnlock again on Monday.

I've tried again quickly this time, just to see if any of that "wait a bit longer" is true.
It is done. My phone is unlocked. I can also still unlock my phone with my finger (not always works as I desire, but it's a big step forward compared to UMI C Note), also "find my device" doesn't seem to bother me with texts such as "oh no, you have unlocked the phone, we cannot help you anymore, blahblahblah". Not sure why Chinese typed warning about it, when it still seems to be working just fine.
This topic is as good as closed then.
Thank You kindly for help, not for the first time my lack of patience gave me (not so hard, but still) hard time.
Now it's time to get some fun with TWRP, root and might as well new rom (because now I can).

you can't unlock on Global ROM although the official guide says yes.
I tried it hundreds of times, changing this, changing that, and all failed
Just flash to China Dev ROM to unlock
I just tried 1 times and instant success

Did you tried to wipe cache from device before procceding to unlock?Did you used multiple accounts on this device?Be sure that you use the same account both device and on browser
I reset the mobile and tried only one account i have..
Have you logged in your miui account in the phone? Because the same thing happened to me, the phone needs to be logged in to your miui account, not only the computer program, but the phone also.
S i logged in and even downloaded one theme..
some people say it got solved by using the Redmi usb cable you got in your box. or using an england VPN.
This is a frustrating issue, I guess lot of people are facing this. I have got the permission few days back but am facing the same issue as OP. I have tried everything mentioned on this forum, MIUI forum and what not. I am currently on China Dev ROM, unfortunately it still does not work. One last thing which might be the actual issue is that even after getting permission from Xiaomi, it takes a few more days to sync this to their servers. I have read many people saying they gave up but when they tried after 5-6 days, it worked. So I am hoping it will work for me too in the next 5-6 days
I am too fed up of unlocking bootloader, i got the permision on starting of april still i cant unlock,.. now i am back global stable rom will try in few days.
On PC try this steps:
1.disable driver signature enforcement permanently
2.disable user account control
3.disable smart screen protection
4.disable any security solution like AV Suite,Firewall, even WIndows inbuilt firewall
5.check if your Windows Management Instrumentation service running
6.right click on MiUNLOCK exe and run as administrator
This is perhaps the most disturbing and irritating thing to have happened to me in my experience of rooting and owing Android smartphones. The process which seems simple is perhaps the most complicated and uncalled for. I have used phones form "Novice manufactures" to Super manufactures like Karbonn, Micromax, Samsung, HTC, Sony, LG, OnePlus. They all have been tricky but yet did the job as promised. Easiest was unlocking my Oneplus2, did it the very day i got my phone. HTC and Sony were tricky and a little complicated but once the process started, they were executed to perfection. I do not understand why Xioami had to screw up this big time. I got the permission but have tried everything possible; however, just not successful. Will wait for a while and get back to unlocking in a weeks time
i did got the permission yesterday tried on global stable rom its not happening will be flashing china stable rom and then moving to developer version via updater app, just wanted to confirm should i follow this guide http://en.miui.com/thread-235865-1-1.html
or is there any other way to go
i have 2 freakin accounts with unlock permissions tried each and every damn step out there on xda and miui forums tried 2 different computers still it says info on the device is different than the current account. god knows what on earth will unlock the bootloader
sorry to revive this old thread, but did you try after 5-6 days and did it actually work to unlock the bootloader with the official way?
This is the most irritating thing with Xiaomi. I've tried every guide and thread on MIUI forums but to no avail. Those idiots at MIUI forums are worthless. They only know to spam forums with "thank you" and "nice" instead of making productive discussion. Many people are facing the same problem with BL unlock and the administrators must be probably aware of the issue. What are they doing for so long? They should have released a new version of mi unlock tool already with the fix or whatever is the issue with their servers, I don't know. I just need to unlock my bootloader officially.
Have you guys checked if "fastboot" command works while in the fastbood mode? Try "fastbood devices" first, does it display the attached device successfully?

Always 99% / 86012 error while unlcoking bootloader - [ UPDATE - UNLOCKED! ]

UPDATE : Okay so i finally unlocked the bootloader finally. before the last try, i turned off the password/fingerprint lock and then it unlocked. everyone should try the same thing
I done every possible steps but nothing is happening! the bootloader unlock process always getting stuck at 99% and Account Bound error is coming on the PC and on the phone, "86012:*****" error showing on 'settings-additional settings-dev option-Mi Unlock status'.
I tried with 2 different Mi phone/account.
done with i.mi.com stuffs and find device, tried FlyVPN but there is no server of 'Shanghai"... etc!
Nothing is happeneing! I am a beta tester of MIUI 9 China, and see, i couldn't even unlock the bootloader yet! Wow! What a thing! Its been a week and so, still my bootloader is locked.
No help from Xiaomi.
I need a promising way to unlock. so help me.
See, I have unlocked three RN4 devices, none without the wait.
Had to wait 6-7 days for each one of them. There has been no luck for me in doing anything other than wait for 6-7 days after getting the permission.
But then, maybe something might work out for you.
The steps I tried or know of:
1. Being on the developer ROM is a must. Chances of unlocking bootloader from global stable MIUI are very slim.
2. Use old Mi Unlock tool. A quick google will land you there.
3. Don't change the accounts in the phone. You should be logged in with the account you got permission in.
4. Go to developer options and check "USB Debugging", "OEM Unlock" and one more option something sort of "USB Debugging Security".
5. Try to bind the account. It will yield a response with some code and Chinese text. Ignore it.
6. Use the original cable and use the ports on the back of the CPU.
7. Keep "Find my device" turned on. And log in to your account in your desktop and try locating your phone.
8. Now try unlocking.
I followed all the above steps I could find out from anywhere and I was able to do it.
In your case I do think you are either not in the developer build or you need to use the old Mi tool.

In your case I do think you are either not in the developer build or you need to use the old Mi tool.

Okay so i finally unlocked the bootloader finally. before the last try, i turned off the password/fingerprint lock and then it unlocked. everyone should try the same thing thanks.
{ PLEAS MARK THIS THREAD AS SOLVED }

I need a promising way to unlock. so help me.

After removing fingerprints and password also - nothing doing. I had applied/received unlock permission from MI on Monday, and today is Wednesday, but it keeps showing "Could not unlock after 31 hours of attempt".. Dont know what that means since from my count, it is more than 42 hours

FRP locked Note 5

A friend of mine (not very technical) asked me for help - he has a FRP locked Note 5 (M1803e7sg) - 'this device is locked' 'This device is associated with existing xiaomi account' message constantly is on screen, so we cannot do much more than emergency call or connect with Wi-Fi.
Apparently, his son, who used the phone do not remember the email he registered an account (or do not want to remember it), so we assume there is no way to get it back, nor unlock miui.
This phone is legit, this friend of my has proof of purchase. He even send the phone to official Xiaomi warranty service prior to giving me, but they told him they cannot do anything. Like at all.
I tried multiple ways from youtube manuals, including wiping data or the one with Talkback. But none works in my case and a phone is still locked.
I'm aware that neither Miui soft won't work on this device. But could you guys advise if there is a way to get twrp in this state, erase, put new software (cyanogen mod or what not) and guide me the easiest way to do that?
Twrp is not possible without unlocking bootloader.
CyanogenMod no longer exist.
If you can provide the version of miui then maybe we can help.
Can you go to setting enabled dev mode and on oem unlocking? If yes, maybe you can watch youtube.
Of course it is MIUI 10.

Yes it can. Try search youtube. "Frp miui 10 fix" something like that.
Hey, so I was contacting xiaomi support. They failed to help me because I dont have Mi account ID nor email address bound to this phone?
Are they not able to say which ID I was using on this particular phone? Cause I am not - I erased it. I also lost emial bound to this account.
I have my phone case with all the numbers, original proof of purchase from local retailer. The phone is 100% legit.
I just lost mi account ID, why is it so much of a problem right now? It's only an aco**** that I was not using to anything.
This is only hardware, right? Why software limits how the hardware is running? You can always erase all the software that is there, including bootloader and load other, unlocked software. Am I wrong?
EDIT: no, I'm not wrong. I haven't found a solution so far, but fortunately my social engineering helped and I managed to restore mi account and pass.
It's a shame that Xiaomi do not have a better way to go in such cases.

Xiaomi Mi Play -bricked by official update

Hello All,
Hope you and yours are doing fine in these worldwide complicated days.
Regarding the subject, I have a Xiaomi Mi Play mobile that was working fine, with official MIUI, never rooted, never done something else than usual "office" daily usage.
One day, came the famous Security Update notification and as usual, I've confirmed.
Since then big headaches...
Next morning I found the phone in the loop reboot, Fastboot being the only available feature, no more recovery, no more OS, no more personal stuff... Everything has been deleted by the update.
When trying to go to recovery only the magnificent message with the red triangle, saying "The system has been destroyed. Press the power button to shutdown" stays for 10-15 secs and then the whole crap reboots again and again.
No, Developer Settings haven't been enabled, OEM Unlock has not been enabled, USB Debugger neither, bootloader has not been unlocked, MIUI account has not been added in Developer Settings or elsewhere... and no I haven't wrote to Xiaomi support yet.
I've tried around 60-80 different methods to unlock whatever could be unlocked on Xiaomi phone, EDL, bootloader, with dozens and dozens of methods proposed, so far nothing worked. Impossible to install anything, impossible to unlock anything, impossible to do anything.
I've applied for the phone unlock, but since 2 months, impossible to finish the process, it says "Couldn't Unlock - Please add your account in MIUI's Settings > Developer options > Mi Unlock Status"
But I CANNOT access the system anymore at all....
This is it...
Thank you for reading and if you have any other ideas out of everything I've tried, feel free to let me know about.
Take care of you and yours
Kind Regards,
SK
ooophhh no. did you ever get a solution? i had my mi play brick just oputta the blue.. its on communist lockdown fighting the war on capitalism ..... well the hardware wasnt bad for the price and it ran well.,but im not buying a phone from them ever again.
It's very sad. Did you get any update?
Hello All,
No update since March, still looking and trying to unbrick the device....
I'll keep you posted if I find anything that could be called a solution.
Thanks for your support.
Be safe all, you and yours.
Kind Regards,
SK
Same here, bricked device since March by the same update, "The System has been destroyed", fastboot doesn't load.
I guess i've lost 150$.

There are many thread for issues like this, for example:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-9-se/help/lock-bootloader-destroyed-help-t3965825
It seems that in some way, same issue was fixed on a different model, but most likely it will work also with Mi Play.
Af far as I have understood, basically the solution is to download the official firmware and flash it back. The main issue is that by default the bootloader is locked so nothing can be written. The point here is how to unlock the phone, and there is an official procedure from Xiaomi:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-9t/how-to/guide-unlock-bootloader-flash-xiaomi-eu-t3952443
I have the same issue for a couple of hours and I am struggling now, so as first step I am trying to unlock the bootloader, but the problem is that per Xiaomi instructions it may take up to 7 days.
So, I will apply for that, while in the meantime I will look for any alternative solutions (if any).
Regards,
Thanks a lot!
But, the're now way to get my phone into fastboot mode.
I've tried all button combinations and there's no response, just the same loop "your system has been destroyed"

After some tests on my device, I have found out that it's not easy as I have believed, but if you don't get even in Fastboot mode it's more complicated.
However, can you please clarify what's your cellphone model?
Regards,
I have exactly the same problem since early May, if I just unlock the boot loader before they fall down :c

[Guide] Redmi 8a unlocking the Mi bootloader with no waiting (not 100% method, may brick your phone!)

Hello everyone!
I have been struggling with this bootloader unlocking thing for quite a while. Fortunately, I was able to find the solution by mere chance and would like to share it with you!
Now the solution may seem unreal (and requires a brain-dead approach), but it is real!
I have unlocked my Redmi 8a (not Dual, not sure it works with other phones, you try it!) using this method, though I am not sure how many factors should come together in order to achieve this.
So, what you should do:
1. Do all the regular stuff, register Mi account with your phone number, enable developer options, connect the account to your phone, and check USB-debugging + OEM-Unlock etc.
2. Download the regular Mi Unlock (I am not sure which version I have used so you may experiment with it, be sure to use the version where there is no batch_unlocker as it will not work).
3. Load into fastboot, connect the phone via USB (don't forget to install the required drivers so your PC is able to see the device).
4. Log in into the Mi Unlock with the same account you have attached to your device (with a phone number, of course).
5. Now comes the tricky part! Click on the "Unlock" button. It will start "processing" everything (3%, 7%, 11% etc.). Now around 10% (this is what I did) quickly unplug the cable from your phone, and when it reaches 99% wait for approximately 1-1.5 seconds and quickly connect it without clicking anything or rebooting your device and wait. It may freeze for a couple of seconds, but then...it works! The phone should be unlocked and reboot by itself afterwards (you can confirm it by seeing a small lock unlocked lock sign on the Redmi screen).
Again, I am not a pro when it comes to this matter, nor am I into unlocking phones (I have started messing with it and found out there are custom android roms just a week ago). I have created this account just to post this and help those who are stuck in the same situation. Also, I have got 168 hours of waiting time initially, and made that trick 2 days later (prematurely unattaching and attaching the Mi account 'cause my nerves said goodbye at some point and the waiting time became 168 hours again =P). Of course, you should do this at your own risk so please, think twice before trying to do such a thing, it may not work for you or even brick your device.
Peace!
Not work for me
