Replacement M9 Phone should I try and update or root first - AT&T HTC One (M9)

My original M9 battery is not holding a charge after about 3 years of faithful service. I was able to pickup a new M9 and would like to root it. It is a AT&T phone and my current provider is AT&T.
How should I go about rooting this phone should I put it on my AT&T account and then root after it gets an update or should I try and root it first ?
I am happy with stock but I do like Viper Rom (but worried that there might not be much more development in terms of custom roms for the M9)
Thanks for any help or guides you can point me to

Unlocked bootloader and have been doing OTA updates but cant see to update past Android 6.0 3.38.502.12
just tried to do a RUU_HIMA_UL_N70_SENSE80_ATT_MR_Cingular_US_4.27.502.7 update but it did not work, OTA updates keeps saying nothing to update please try again later (tried trick to set date forward but still nothing is found)
Any help would be great

Found that I might have to run RUU_HIMA_UL_M60_SENSE70_ATT_MR_Cingular_US_3.38.502.17.exe
But as the bootloader is unlocked it wont allow me to run it as it fails with a 155 error.
Trying

At this time there is no way to root an Aria with the 1.0.2 hboot with software. There is a hardware method but it is expensive. The other option is to send your phone to someone and have them use the hardware method on your phone for you.
If you are interested in getting your phone "fixed" go here and ask for attn1:
http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=#liberatedAria
Total cost was around $35 USD with shipping both ways. He got my phone back to me super fast and now I am no longer stuck on the official rom. Well worth it.
What the hardware does is turns off the security flag on the device. This is what they call s-off. Once your phone is s-off you are able to load custom recoveries to your phone like clockworkmod and then flash custom roms.

"Error: UEGetPhoneInfoFailure UE_2003" when trying to update to 6.0.1

Hi,
I just bought a sony xperia Z5compact from another guy that barely used it. He gave it to me with apparently, a stock ROM. But I dont know if the other guy did anything on the phone like rooting, unlocking, whatever.
But now I want to update from 6.0 to 6.0.1 and I cant do it. Neither in the phone, nor with the computer coz I get this error:
error: UEGetPhoneInfoFailure
UE_2003".
I checked more, and the phone has TWRP recovery and an Androdplus kernel. So it has been modified, but I dont know how to check the status of the bootloader or if it rooted.
I want to update the phone to 6.0.1. and I would like to have a stock rom and a locked bootloader. (because I read that custom rom and unlocking bootloader affect to the function of the camera).
How can I do it?
I am getting different information over the forum and the internet, and I am getting a bit lost...
the security thing from service info, stays like this

htc one m9+ supreme camera

hi guys.
firstly its my very first thread so please ignore the poor posting.
i have a htc one m9+ supreme camera (m9px) hong-kong version.
after flashing a faulty SU the official/stock firmware went faulty and didn't boot back on.
i had to wipe the whole device to be able to try new rom or even firmwares. here is the problem i cant find anything for this phone!
sure i did manage to find a Taiwan version which i flashed but Baseband, radio and ota is not working.
i found a HK version on "easy-firmware.com" and "ir-file.com" but i think it was a fake one (check out the pic).

}
thus no chance found there. interesting thing is i didnt find the m9px recovery i managed to find a m9pw (htc m9+) and flashed it surprisingly its working , yet it seems because of the difference in models (hiau_ml_tuhl for m9+) and (hiaur_ml_tuhl for m9+ sc) every time that i want to install ota it goes to recovery and recovery cant flash the ota.
so if someone could help me out in any ways i would really appreciate it. or would you send a back up your phone (same model) to me to flash would be awesome too.
thanks again

ATT unlocked and its current state of SW

Hello. I have an unlocked ATT version of S9 plus.
I flashed unlocked firmware to it but after reading so many pie thread, I'm beginning to question if I flashed the phone correctly.
Its been receiving OTA update regularly and its on ARL1.
I THINK I read somewhere in XDA that if you are on truly unlocked firmware, phone must read xaa/xaa/xaa. However, mine shows xaa/xaa/att? (currently on mintsim service which uses tmobile network I believe)
Can someone tell me if I did anything wrong as I have limited knowledge of android phones and I would like to correct it before pie update.
Thanks in advance.
You should be all good. The last one is showing the original software provider version that never changes from flashing carrier firmwares or unlocked firmwares. Basically it shows what the phone was born as I guess is a way you could look at it.
Bought mine directly from Samsung and mine also says that.

How do I deroot my v30 and upgrade to official Pie firmware?

I rooted my V30 awhile back on Nougat, and now I want to restore to official firmware and relock the bootloader using these instructions:
Guide: How to upgrade/downgrade/restore official firmware on your V30.Is it possible? I found the new patched version of LGUP for Pie from another thread, but when I try to flash an official Pie kdz using "upgrade" it is giving me an error something along the lines of "0x4 cannot cross flash model h932 to h932" for some reason. I will pull up a picture in a little. Any idea why I can't do it this way, do I have to use partition-DL and overwrite? Is there any way I can do this without losing my user data?
I originally rooted my phone using the instructions here:
[ROOT] H932 - lafploit 1.5 up to v20a
WARNING DO NOT LET YOUR PHONE REBOOT, OR POWER OFF UNTIL I TELL YOU THAT IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DO. If you do, I am not sure what shape your phone will be in. This should go without saying, but you MUST have your bootloader unlocked...
