Always in bed with me

well, the first day of Redmi 5 Plus is gone and it looks decent... lovely phone!
after a while messing with Apple's iPhone 7 Plus, decided to sell it and buy a low-budget one.
The screen looks great, I loved the screen protector, that comes with the phone.
My Only wish is a pedometer, it would be useful to track my tracks.

I got one today. My old one is a oneplus3. Note 5 has not impressed me.
WTF is all this MI account rubbish? Never knew it has it's own eco system like google etc.
Wish I never ordered it. Screen is poor and sound is awful.

are you just a hater or you bought the phone and got a bad experience ?
so like he have is own eco system is bad ? the sound is awful ...? dude go buy your onePlus and stay quit

Had mine a few days now. Overall very satisfied. The thing that impresses me most is the value. I've had some phones both cheap and expensive but never a cheap phone that feels premium. This one does I think. Incredible value for money.

the purpose of this thread is to share our feedback, your invitation to buy another phone because you don't like the feedback is pointless and ridiculous
the hardware of this phone is fantastic, great screen, neverending battery, good shape
the MIUI rom is an absolut shame. Everything is locked, you can't remove the useless xiaomi apps, you can't access full developer mod, for instance no root option or no detailed menu for reboot options, this is an absolute nightmare to create a MIUI account, and obviously, the bootloader is locked
In order to unlock the bootloader, you have to create an account on a chinese website, not translated in english. Xiaomi sells phones all over the world, and the account can't be in any other language than chinese. So i'm copy/pasting chinese in google translate to understand. Fantastic feeling as a consumer
update: while unlocking the bootloader is a total struggle, i ended up with Mi Unlock tool saying "couldn't unlock, you have to wait for 360hrs". I have to wait for 14 days for no particular reason. Obviously the reason is that Xiaomi doesn't want you to erase their interface and all the Xiaomi apps that are showing up ads everytime you open them.
Conclusion: you like iOs? Buy this phone. You like Android ? don't buy it. If you're navigating on XDA, then you should like customization, then you will hate this phone. Buy it for your grandma, she'll love it

Census - got one, had one, want one?

There don't appear to be many of these devices around, and I am curious to try and find out how many.
I love the hardware. If it was just about the specs, I'd have bought one already!
But I'm undecided.
If the bootloader was unlockable, with custom recoveries and custom ROMs, I'd have bought one. However, with Asus not cooperating, and I think too few devices around, I am not sure this will achieve the critical mass to get the attention it deserves.
Sadly, the lack of international availability, and, well, Asus being Asus, means that if this was an experiment to judge the demand for super-sized phablets, then I think it failed. I don't think we'll see another from Asus.
I have one, and will be keeping it for now. However it is not my daily driver, and until AT&T fixes their HSPA+ network in my area, or root becomes available so I can unlock bands, this device will stay just a play around device.
Hi,
I have one since about 2 months and I love its big screen, reviews said that there was no lag, no freezes etc... False, the proc is not that good and I'm really desapointed but that's not why I will change.
I'll change because I cannot accept that an android phone cannot have root or unlockable bootloader, for me it's not an android...
If I wanted an extremly locked phone, I'd choose an iPhone... lol
Oh and... still no Nougat update for other versions than ZF3 5.2 and 5.5 (Stopped because euh... well, because what in fact?)
So, for a 750€ smartphone...
Asus? Never again.
wow, only six people bought one? and one of those is going to sell it. doesn't look too good.
edit: updated the count
Yea I have it and im using it on T-Mobile which is OK with hspa+ but the bootloader unlock not coming out is killing my joy with the phone. Awesome device but I find myself using my OnePlus 3t more because of Asus stupid choices with the bootloader.
Have one & will keep it. The only really irritating thing so far is having both speakers on one side, when you keep the phone in landscape mode; but I'm getting used to tolerate it and can use the headphones anyway.

the iphone7 has a dummy speaker, one set of grilles are just blind holes!
so I guess even having genuine dual speakers is a win, but yes, would have been better to have them top and bottom, or even on the long edge.
the availability of an official boot loader unlock tool has swung me back to considering this phone again.
I have had my Z3Ultra for a number of months now after I purchased it to replace my nice but also annoying Huawei P8 Max. I totally love this phone. Can't complain with the exception of the lack of Root, which as I write this message, the developer community is working on bringing it to our device. Apart from this, I am looking to keep it until a new device is released with much better spec but at least the same size possibly even a 7.9" (YES it can be as like the Huawei P8 Max, this phone has a lot of wasted space and overall size can still be kept to current size- check Xiaomi Mi Mix) with ultra thin bezels and curved display, stylus pen, keyboard attachment, better cpu, 128GB or 256GB ROM, 6GB+ RAM, dual sim + independent sd slot and finally quad speakers (top, bottom, left, right side with similar quality to the ones already on it (they are awesome, I mean it). Anyway, enough dreaming from me, lets hope someone from Asus is reading my expectations of the next version.
I have one and will keep it, i am coming from a sony z ultra that I've been using for almost 2 years and sony z3 tablet compact 4g 3 months before that and a sony z1 before that, i have only had the asus zenfone 3 ultra for 1 week but have wanted this device since may last year, i bought this for £420 from eglobal and only bought this because my cousin wanted a better device than the Samsung s4 but he wanted to buy the sony z5 because he knew i enjoyed my sony devices but never asked why i didn't have a updated version like the z2 or z3, i sent him the information about the zenfone 3 series and the asus launch videos, he finally bought the deluxe 820 version after 3 months from the same seller but wanted this as soon as i showed these devices to him, i also bought my dad a sony z2 for work and recently upgraded his device to the asus zenfone 3 5.2 inch version. My cousin now wants the ultra version and im going to also buy his deluxe version to use for work. This is the best decision ive made but would buy a xiaomi mi max for less than 200 if i don't get the deluxe from him and stay with my ultra device too. I drive for work and have always had large screen devices for 3-4 years. Lets see what asus has to offer other than the AR version as this is only a small version or normal size lol. I've been recently looking around for root and unlocking bootloader and will wait for asus to release this to all.
Xiaomi Mi Mix? specs? quat speakers?

It is nice to dream and imagine good things in life and the spec posted (as stated in my original post) is what I want to see in an ideal device of this size. Oh No. I am definitely not smoking anything. Just dreaming the possibility of a perfect phablet (A mix between ZF3U, Samsung Galaxy S7/S8 type edge display and mi mix type bezelless front with the extras as cherry on top).
BTW. As I discovered very recently ASUS Customer Service for the ZenFone series is rubbish to say the least but more like non-existent. God help us when we need care for our precious ZF3U.

You are wright buddy, this is what I want too but no body makes it.:laugh:
My wife had 1. She dropped it face first on a concrete with flip cover that came with the phone. The screen still shattered. The flip cover is coming covering the screen but still didn't protect it from the impact. I guess that's the gamble when you have a very large screen.

I have one and love it, despite the stuff that is installed there out of the box. Its fast, bright and really useful. One thing that slightly upsets me - need to reboot it every second day to keep at the top of its abilities.
Overall - I'd never hesitate to recommend it.:good:
I had one, then gave it to my daughter while i used other smaller screen phone... Then i realize i got hooked on big screen, so i bought another one for me

Mainly, you CAN'T assume that just because folks don't report stuff here on XDA, that no one has it. Next, many users are Chinese, or from Taiwan. They won't necessarily speak English. Third, since the LTE bands are NOT available in the U.S.A., that kills more of the market. Lastly, the going rate is around $500 USD, if someone here DID want to buy one. Ours is black screen bricked right now, so we're trying to get help with the (WW) international version unbricking.
I should have been more clear, what I was interested in was how many XDA forum members have bought this, so as to gauge the level of interest and likelihood of hackers and developers doing interesting things with it. I don't know enough about custom Asus ROMS in this respect to actually do the work, but would have been willing to help test rooting and custom recoveries, only I ended up buying an LG V20 because it had all the features I wanted and the AZf3U didn't, and also my concerns about Asus's upgrade longevity set in.

I was planning to get zf3 ultra but with almost no rom support, I might get the mi max 2 instead.
I don't think the mi mix is a good idea since it has a fragile ceramic body. I prefer metal body...
*Edit: I gave away my mi max (helium ver) and back to using my 5 years old coolpad 9976a

According to me, it is one of the best phones in this price range. Overall performance is very much satisfactory
My Mi Max 2 arrived two days ago, i'm really really happy, battery lasts two days with strong use, and everything is smooth. It was not so easy to go through the unlock procedure but now i'm done.
Me to, very happy so far. Coming from Samsung Note4, and that seems to be the end of Samsung phones for me!

I've a Note 3 running Resurrection rom. Just got this last Friday and love the bigger screen, I remember getting the note 1 and nobody could believe the size, and now the note 3 is just about average, lol. Anyways I'll be missing the stylus and removable battery, but other than that it seems good. Just waiting for the 72 hrs to pass so that I can root and unlock the thing. For less than half the price of a Note 8 and the same price here as a second-hand several year old note 4 I don't think you can do wrong.

Buddy, How is the screen quality conpared to the note 3?
It's amoled vs lcd / 380dpi vs 344dpi. Im really considering this one or the LG V20?
Is it too big for pockets?
Screen seems ok to me, it's not as vivid but wil do the job browsing and reading pdfs which is my main use. I've thousands of photos too and they seem ok. Sizewise it's longer and sticks out a little bit from my pockets but not enough to bother me.
I am in love with this device, But bit disappointing with MIUI which uses more ram. Waiting for stable custom rom.:fingers-crossed:
I have a Redmi Note 3. I'm looking for a larger phone. My mom wants to take my Redmi once I get a new phone.
My only concern with this phone is custom ROM support as I don't like using MIUI. Are the chances this will be supported by LineageOS officialy sometime soon? (Mi Max 1 seems to have great custom ROM support). If yes, I'll be buying this phone right away.
Also, I'm confused. Some pages mention this phone has NFC and some don't. Does it have NFC. Doesn't affect my descision to buy this phone but still.

Yes, only thing I'm missing is the picture quality from Samsung, even though it was very much slower to focus, noticed specially when scanning bar codes. In very dark envioment it can be seen that it has ips screen and not amoled. But it cost 1/5 of a new Samsung Note, so i don't care. Specially since my Note4 failed with the "mmc_failed" error after 2 years, and Samsung wont emit it's a production failure.
Camera Quality

now the quality of mi max 2 is better than mi max 1
i have both Mi Max 1 and 2
Decent but the lack of multi color LED notification is a big downer.
Battery was awesome
but a little unconformtable when heat
10 -- except for the battery ...
I got the phone cheap $229 4/64 (it was 199 yesterday at Gearbest). TOTAL LOVE. Perfect build quality. Fast. Gets a great signal on AT&T (the only signal in my neighborhood). Better than my Samsung despite AT&T's claims it would barely work at all. Yes, it says H+ on the display instead of 4g, but I suspect I was getting H+ already, marketed as 4g, which is what they do in the states.
What's more, I'm getting Volte now with AT&T prepaid -- prepaid customers don't get Volte! (Not that it's much use with this carrier).
In call volume is fine and the speaker quality is great. It wasn't loaded with crapware and unrooted, I was able to disable some system apps (some apps, like the calculator, are terrific).
Regarding the battery: I got a lemon. It's lasting a full day, maybe a day and a half -- but I'm a light user! No gaming, not even online much. I don't run anything except for downloaded audiobooks. But it goes to show you how much I love the phone that I wouldn't even consider sending it back for warranty service. All the way to China? I'd be without it for days, maybe weeks!
It's not perfect. I can't believe TV out is missing -- no way to connect to a monitor with OTG, no matter how many adaptors you use, I'm told. And Xiaomi's firmware prevents you from doing full backups or downloading nonessential updates unless you're on wifi. They claim you can toggle this, but they're sneaky buggers ... you toggle, it says downloading, but when you look for the completed file it says 'scheduled'. I *****ed and moaned in the forum, but hundreds have cried before me, to no avail.
There are a few odd little paternalistic issues with the OS -- not that ATT and Samsung don't dictate what I can do with my device and service -- they're a thousand times worse -- but their preferred forms of control are motivated by profit, not concern for what's 'good' for me. What do they care if I guzzle data?
On the other hand, Xiaomi employees actually monitor the forums. After the major software update, they solicited bug reports and issued fixes for them in a couple of days -- even for the minor bugs.
On a 1 to 10 scale, the phone is a 20, and I'm thrilled to learn they have a wide range of electronics to check out because -- so long Samsung, you suckered this consumer for the last time.
I do love Xiaomi Mi Max 2 except one thing. I can't unlock bootloader on MIUI 9 Global Stable, I get the error 86006 (with some Chinese letters). I know that it can be fixed by flashing on developper rom but I would like to get it fixed without flashing the device.

Yep, I had the same problem. I don't understand why Xiaomi does this.
I ended up giving in and installed a fresh dev ROM and then it worked perfectly.
Loving mine in Canada. I am a heavy user minus gaming(unless you count Scrabble) and I get 2 full days on a charge consistently. I stream sports and movies onto it, lots of music and other normal surfing/social media stuff and it doesn't get hot and the battery just keeps on going. It's early but so far I would definitely recommend the phone and the company. Excellent build quality and attention to detail. This phone was made with me in mind

Read this before You buy POCO !!!

Hi XDA Friends
Below is an eye opener that I think got me convinced not to buy POCO- check out why:
I keep on hearing bad thing in my area about POCO from advanced users who judged the phone only by it's specification.
They told me that indeed the CPU/SoC (Snapdragon 845) is a great stuff but the phone as a whole makes no sense cause:
1. No NFC and no OIS (optical image stabilization)
2. Not so good cameras (Xiaomi used to delived better camers to other devices)
3. Every other part of the phone except the Snapdragon 845 which is currently the best Snapdragon on the market is making huge distance to that quiality of the CPU. Basicly they told me that Xiaomi put a super CPU/SoC and a good battery into a budget phone so it is not worth buying.
4. They said that it's way better to buy Huawei Mate 10 Lite or Honor 10 cause these phones as a whole are well balanced.
5. NO Amoled display screen, just IPS.
6. Xiaomi lured users to buy a phone with that Snapdragon 845 but as a whole it isnt a photo phone, a storage phone, a gaming phone. It's just and overpriced Redmi Note 4/5.
What do You think dear Friends?
People will find faults in everything. What were you expecting for $300? were you expecting Note 9 for $300?
you get what you pay for. for the price, this phone has good enough cameras, top of the line processor.
People will always b*tch about something. The phone is not overpriced at all.

tell them , this is the reason why this phone is worth buying. Those Huawei phones dont allow bootloader unlock, so f*ck Huawei. Huawei came to xda, and when the became popular they just locked them bootloaders and left.
also, change the title on your thread. stop with the click bait, drama creating titles.

I'm just saying that my these advanced users do make valid points.
Why do You think I ordered this phone in the fist place? Casue of Snapdragon 845 and I am not campaning against POCO. I;m just leaving this message for pleeople that have a big imagination.
Personaly, I'd like to have it but I care about XDA users and I respect others opinion. So chill dude, please.
I don't have the phone but will be ordering it as soon as possible.
The lack of NFC doesn't bother me since I have never used it in my entire life. Not having OIS is a bit disappointing but whatever, I never take pictures in low light so that doesn't matter too much.
AFAIK the cameras are still pretty decent, or at least that's what the reviews seem to suggest. I watched some camera comparisons with the OnePlus 6 and they both seemed equally matched, more or less.
I would never buy a Huawei phone for the same reason someone mentioned above, betraying the entire dev community like a bunch of assholes. No bootloader unlock means no sale!
I am glad there are still high-specced phones out there with IPS panels. My eyes are extremely sensitive to the Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) used in OLED panels to regulate brightness. My Axon 7 caused me months of headaches and eyestrain until I realised that's what was causing the problem. Never again will I buy another AMOLED phone unless they figure out how to get rid of PWM.

so POCO is geat for You, Im happy to hear that. BTW You're the first person saying that dosnt like amoled
I kind of disagree with the post, several reviewers have rated the phone well on most counts, I am not a tech reviwer but an enthusiast who spends money to experience the new and the nice in tech.
Any phone has shortcomings, and so has this but imagine what you are paying for those, the curved screens on galaxy devices is effectively one of the things what one pays the premium for yet the real world functionality remains arguable. Having said that let me state whats amazing about this phone in my hands on experience so far.
1. Photo quality and Camera speed, the camera launches quick, snaps quick, the ai detection is fast and accurate and pictures are good with or without ai and hdr
2. Phone handling, single handed use, comfort, the phone gets this right. Face unlock, finger prints unlock are both very fast, the raise to wake feature is super useful. It does not feel a cheap phone by any means.
3. Battery life is too early to judge but my first charge has gone 30 hours with 3 hours screen time in a very bad reception area. (still at 50%)
4. The screen quality, contrast and outdoor usage all are at par with the good screens around. No complaints there yet.
5. The software on board is fast and functional, gestures work well plenty of settings to customize, the stock poco launcher is certainly better than what you see on Redmi phones
The minor annoyances come from the following
1. The curve at the bottom of the bottom could have been smaller, its not stopping anything functionally but just feels a bit more than needed.
2. Notification icons don't show up on the notification bar
3. Icons don't seem to have an option to resize. Nothing that another launcher won't solve.
Some may think its not a gaming phone, or a camera phone, why don't we think its a functional phone which ticks all the boxes without trying to be the master of one, the phone does everything well. If you must compare the phone, do so against the flagships and see how many contests it fights well, don't compare it to the midrange phones because it just bests them in all areas.
In an analogy form this phone is a new heavyweight boxer that can stand its ground well in the ring.
If someone has only 300$ to spend, they must buy this, if one has 250$ to spend, this is worth the 50$ extra if one can manage, if someone has 400$ or more they would not regret spending 300 here, though they are free to spend the extra bit on whatever feature specific phone they would like.

Man, people say some funny stuffs that we can't know if it's serious or not. NFC isn't a deal breaker for many many people. The camera uses the same sensor as Mi 8, Mi Mix 2S, Vivo NEX S, Asus Zenfone 5z that are so much expensive. The lack of OIS is not the end of the world and if a person want it so just spend more money for that.
A lot of flagships has 3000, 3000, 3400mAh and Pocophone has 4000mAh and it's not good enough.
AMOLED? Really? Even Mi Mix 2S don't have it, LG G7 doesn't have it, Xperia XZ2 don't have it and some others. They are all much more expensive and don't have it. The important thing is that Pocophone has a good quality IPS display.
The phone has good screen, good battery life, good camera, it's well made, stellar UFS storage, stellar memory speed and stellar SoC and people complain. If someone wants stellar everything, so go buy a phone that is double or triple the price. The phone gives us more than we pay for sure. There are a lot of phones in the market that is medium to good in everything and costs around $300.
As person who have poco phone and Note 8 , i have to humbly disagree OP's points
1. NFC is good to have but not a necessity but personally i have far better option (Called note 8) and also we so called advances users would have over specs 1000 times before buying any device be it poco f1
2. It has good camera(s) with 1.9 and 2.0 aperture lenses with sony IMX sensors and for price point they do great in good lighting conditions and OIS is again good option to have but not a must.
3. Not sure how to answer that question as you have done it yourself as XIaomi has put SD 845 SOC in a budget phone
4. DOn't have those phone to comment on them
5. Amoled is awesome as i have one of the best amoled screen on phone but this IPS LCD panel is no slouch adequate brightness and color accuracy
just my .02 cents
NFC - you will not find NFC in any device in the same price range, not even Honor Play and what you will do with NFC? I have had atleast 3 phones with NFC but they were useless because except samsung pay my country has no support for NFC payment.
2. AMOLED? Are you serious?? Does honor 10 has amoled? I have used LCD all my life and had no problem, only viewing angles are bad, why would anyone see their phone from sides btw? I have 2 ways of getting an AMOLED:
i. If I buy a mid range phone that has AMOLED and useless processors like SD450 or SD430 Cost - 300USD-400USD
ii. If I buy a high end phone that has both AMOLED and great processor - Cost - More than 700USD
Xiaomi's LCD screen is on par with even expensive phone's display.
3. Honor and Huawei are worst companies in terms of open source and custom ROM development. I had an honor 8 pro, these idiots said they will support development but after few months they flew away, now there is no method to even root the phone and last I had heard, Huawei/Honor will not allow bootloader unlocking.
4. Everyone knows that the camera is not good, it is called cost cutting, everyone here is buying Poco just for the SoC. I was going to buy Honor Play, but however bad poco's camera is, it is still better than honor play's camera and android Pie is certain but Honor nowadays is not even providing patches on time and with each new update a new bug arises.
5. And you are right, Poco F1 is nothing but Redmi Note 5 with a better SoC. And don't even mention Widevine here, I have Moto Z play, Honor 8 Pro, Mi A1, Samsung J7 Max and none of them support Widevine L1 and most of them cost more than Poco.
Your power users are noobs and not experienced people and you sir, either are a very rich guy, else you are extremely stupid.
your points are all invalid because the phone costs 300 bucks lol
Dude, you high or something? Change the damn title to "is Poco F1 worth the price?". You are not giving some top secret news about POCO. You are just sharing your stupid opinion which anyone can. "Read before you buy?". I have it and it's awesome. You just don't understand tech stuff a lot. 100000 people already has it. 5000 has posted 5* review on flipkart.
Just takes a few minutes to read the customer review before buying anything. Do that.
Is US$300 reasonable to buy a Xiaomi Poco F1????
@everyone
Good Day!
I come across all earlier contributions with good and bad comments on this particular Poco F1 ...... .! Bear in mind from the business point of view ask ourselves why US$300 on a snap dragon 845 ... surely might be wrong on this huh! Well, Xiaomi is adopting very aggressive marketing penetration to wipe all the heavy weights like Apple, Samsung, Huawei and smaller ones as well on this! Poco F1 hits them well just like that.
Everyone is entitled to his/her own experiences based on what one believing in the pros and con ..... bearing in mind how long will this lasts! Is just another phone US $300 justify your meets/want for 1-2 years before the next wave going to hit in the market maybe the Oppo or Vivo phones are getting ready to hit back at Xiaomi with more prudent and well built features in probably less than US $250 for soc 855 or 865! Not forgetting that idiot Huawei good for nothing "No bootloader unlock" phrase and many still reluctant players NOT willing to open up bootloader unlock ..... . will count them out.
Conclusion is based on every individual who thinks value for money, ease of operation, good OS (nothing is perfect at least 90% satisfied), NFC not necessary ... many others can do away with it, and end up simply with a price of US $ 300 is certainly the justification that I want with following rationales:
1. Can you still find another alternative or replacement unit with US $300 for a soc 845 ;
2. I can still do my bootloader unlocking but with minimum frustration (1440 hours or 61 days to unlock >> latest new!!!) with Xiaomi;
3. I still can have my custom roms later part ([RECOVERY] TWRP-3.2.3-x [beryllium], Tool/Utility for the Xiaomi Poco F1) or maybe OrangeFox .... . more custom roms will be available by then;
4. If I don't like custom rom I still can revert back to stock roms which is another alternative! Bearing in mind Xiaomi is making a great impact now and maybe the next 10-20 years future to stay more competitive; and
5. Target on this model may last me for a year or 2 ..... by then a much better model with higher specs would surface to take over Poco F1.
Till then Good Luck guys! - -

Picking up a P30 Pro in todays circumstances

With all this upheaval, what do you think about grabbing one while they're going cheap, used and good condition?
Im aware of the circumstances and that Huawei banning bootloader unlocking makes the situation even worse. If we could find a way to unlock the bootloader by unofficial means, I'd be happy to pick one up if there's decent 3rd party developer support
Could this be an opportunity or just a waste of time and money for us?
I've just bought one for £520 and it's only a month old. I'm prepared to take the risk for such a good phone and hopefully this Trump crap will come to an end soon
I have one sealed here myself but debating if I should have opted for Mate 20 Pro instead for worthwhile savings
Things could possibly reverse back to normal, if the ban goes full on, it could come to a total of $11m lost of business for the states with the companies combine, plus other possible complications, even regardless of that, and full ban on huawei, existing devices are not effected going by what Google have said
I got one before the 'news'. No regrets, it's a great phone.
Yeah i'd say buy it or get the mate 20 pro it's a better deal.
It has a better screen also
Although i don't care for that myself
i have a p30 pro love the phone but i am thinking about getting rid of it becaues of the hole ban thing i buy my phone off line every year and just tread my old one in so just looking at it from a money aspect
It's still worth every cent of the original retail price, let alone the massive discounts you can find. Its the best phone of 2019, and I've tried them all...
I agree. I'm watching a few variants on ebay, mainly the VOG-L04 model. If prices continue to fall, I might end up with more than one.

Ditto.
I just picked mine up about to days ago. And I paid premium price for it. I was looking for the best battery life, performance and camera. I'm not really a fan of Samsung. I have no complaints with this phone. Other then I have a defective figure print sensor.
Bought a new one about a week ago. Could not be much happier overall. I don't necessarily need Android Q. The phone is working fine as it is. However this might be the last Huawei I'll buy depending on what happens in the future. It's very unclear future for Huawei now. For current phones I don't care though. This phone has the hardware I need that no one else has.
No regrets for me too. I bought it after the news came out. P30 pro is already a futuristic device. Huawei can always use AOSP and we can use alternative for Google services

I picked one up over the weekend, new. I'm not too bothered about the crap - it's a great phone, will get Q, will probably get security updates, and will definitely get Play store updates - that's good enough for me.
And it's a matter of time before either of the countries blink and things go back to normal
Well, I just picked one up brand new here in Canada. Coming from a Pixel 3xl. Don't regret it one bit. Nothing wrong with the pixel at all, but it fell short in a couple areas within the camera that the p30 pro delivers on. I don't really care about the situation happening, I believe it will get resolved.
I bought my P30 Pro before the ban for full price.
I love the fact that it has a best in class camera that's the most versatile in the industry, 2 day battery life, the fastest charging speeds and just its overall gorgeous design.
I have no regrets. I don't take politics seriously and think the news and media puts this in a scaremongering light as Google and various US-based companies wouldn't want to lose out on potential revenue and business.
Can you guys imagine If Huawei and Honor, Xiaomi, OPPO etc. Get an agreement to make one OS to all chinese Smartphones, this way the devs will forget about Play Store, cause only Pixel Will left ... Since even Motorola and Nokia are from China now! Is pretty much the end of Android!

On the sidelines of the G20 summit in Osaka, Trump said “U.S. companies can sell their equipment to Huawei,” without going into detail. “We’re talking about equipment where there’s no great national security problem with it,” Trump continued. It’s not clear what this means for now, but it’s likely Huawei will be able to acquire basic components like Qualcomm processors and Google’s Android OS.

Life after Mate 10, which device?

I've been pretty happy with my Mate 10 but feel it's time for a change. Almost got the Mi 9T Pro but then specs for the Oneplus 7T emerged and that is now the favourite. Tried the Oneplus 7 Pro earlier but hated the curved screen. Mate 30 probably out due to the google apps nonsense.
Just wondered what fellow Mate 10 users have moved to and how it worked out. Or which device(s) you have your eye on?
Personally if it's confirmed that Mate 10 will be getting Android Q then it's a must keep for another year and maybe 1 more after that. Even without that It does all I need and more. Never been happier with a phone.
I'm a bit picky about the design of my phone, I hate curved screens, notch, teardrop, cut out designs. And Mate 10 doesn't fall into any of that. I don't like the current trends I just want compromise. But that's only personal preference.
Currently I'm holding off until the Mate 40 comes out next year, and when that time comes I'll start weighting things.
Good thing U have many brands to choose from but no need to rush unless u are having serious problems with your device, where I live the only choices are huawei and Samsung so I only upgrade when it's really crucial to do so, and that's not even close right now.
I hope this helped u. Peace.
My mate 10 pro will have an afterlife in the hands of my wife. :fingers-crossed:
But it won't be a Huawei anymore. Just because there is no development around these brand and that sucks.
For now I would prefer Oneplus devices. Also Xioami isn't too bad either.
Will see what the market has to offer next year.
I am fascinated by all the new devices that come out. But also I always come to the conclusion. that the Mate 10 (Pro) is still a very good smartphone that is very capable of keeping up with the new ones. Sure the wide angle and zoom lenses are great and also the SoC are better in Benchmarks, but at the end of the day my Mate 10 Pro can do all I need.
One reason why I decided to buy a flagship smartphone in 2017 was "I want a phone that can keep up for a while". I knew I didnt need the flagship SoC performance but I bought it so it would still be fast 2 years later. Now the time begins where I think I profit of paying extra in 2017. Thatswhy I'll keep it till it breaks, hopefully many years from now. I will soon order a new battery and replace it myself (while also changing my shattered back panel). Very happy with the device and Huaweis promise "wont slow down within at least 2 years" proved to be right.
I change device because i would reduce form factor, but with best camera

+1
Personally, I love mine and I have no reason to upgrade. If I could pick any, I would still be pretty open minded as I don't do roms so bootloader locked isn't an issue for me. As long as it is pretty equal in features to price ratio and it has all the ones I need, gladly it can be my next.
It's amazing I've had my M10P for almost two years cos it's as new and fast as the day I bought it!
I gave my Mate9 to my wife then and she stopped using her Sammy for the M9. I wanted to get her a Y9prime but she wants the M10P so I guess it's the M30P for me.
I used to have LGs (G2, G3, V10 & G5) - the last two got affected by bootloop and being out of US, I wasn't entitled to a replacement. Those days, I flashed custom ROMs bi-weekly my favourite was Cloudy.
I didn't think I could survive with a locked bootloader but here I am 3 & 1/2 years after switching to Mate 9.
I will still stick to Mate series but I wish Huawei will create their own OS probably off Sailfish which means we can still install Google services.
If Huawei want to retain market share, they should unlock bootloader in devices as it'll not only keep us but also entice new users of their devices.
Talking about changing devices, I may go for the new P30 Pro.
But if I had to move away from Huawei all together, I'll consider the K20 Pro as an alternative - for me, it's better than OP7 Pro
Edit:
I think I may go for Asus ROG phone II or Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Pro
I'm going through the same dilemma. I usually change phones very fast. But its been 1.5 yrs with the Mate 10 Pro and there's nothing in the market that comes close to being a great replacement for this. My only problem now is that the updates haven't come in for 2 months now (US Version) and I don't think it'll get any more. I love the camera, speaker, bluetooth strength, Wifi speeds and just how smooth and fast it is even after 1.5 yrs.
But, if there has to be a replacement, then I might go for the Pixel 4 or jump over to the iPhone 11. Waiting for their announcements to see how good they are.

Still waiting to see what the Pixel brings to the table.
The iPhone 11 Pro has a wide angle camera which is the only thing missing in the Mate 10 Pro. Pics will be good for a flagship, and videos are the best as usual. iOS is not to my taste and the max I've held an iPhone is for 4-5 months (8 plus). Since nothing major has changed in iOS 13, I'm in a dilemma.
No more Huawei's for me, because just like any other manufacturer, updates stop coming after a point or are really slow. My Mate10 Pro hasn't received an update for 2 months now. Yeah, they've been much better than Samsung or LG, but that's nothing to boast about.

I haven't been getting updates but I have 2 possible reasons,
A- not in the region I bought my phone.
B- been in repair for the past month.
Same for me I love the M10P but as my contract is renewing next month I thought about buying the M30P and just install the g services myself but I am not so sure about it. What would you all do buy the M30P or something else?

I'd buy the M30P. If you were happy with Huawei than it's the best choice imo. I'd just wait for some real reviews to see if you really can get all Google services to work properly.
I won't buy mate 30 PRO, reason - notch. My next phone will have about 7 inches screen. I'm waiting for HONOR NOTE 20 but nobody can say something about release date. I wanted to buy HONOR NOTE 10, but there's a problem with B20 range and Jack 3,5mm.

Why do U need a 7 inch screen?
If I was upgrading and sticking to huawei I'd rather get the Mate 30 (non pro). The only things I don't like are that it doesn't have QHD display and no support for standard SD card. And also I think it doesn't have dual speakers but I'm not sure. I'm holding off until the Mate 40 unless my Mate 10 become unusable.
The lack of Google apps doesn't bother me at all but for the average consumer it could be an issue.
I like to watch a films at my car during my journeys Larger screens are better for this.
I'm leaning towards the Oneplus 7T. It looks like the uk will only get 128gb but Wonda Mobile think they might have the 256gb version in November.
