I use Blokada as well on my V30 and V30+. It is a must when you don't have root.
Using Blokada, totally works! Thanks for the tips.
Have good results using uBlock Origin, primarily do not use Chrome and even when I do, never as a logged in user. Most browsing or reading is performed on Firefox or Opera ... no ads whatsoever...

It shows you're connected you a VPN. It's important to know, in case you do not want to be connected to a VPN. So you don't mix your personal stuff with your corporate stuff.
In this case is just being used for ad blocking, but a lot of people use VPN for work.

To the OP,
Have you taken a look at your gmail account settings on a desktop or laptop (not on the phone) ? Reason is that it is easy to see just how much "you allow" Google to either preserve, store, analyze of the data you create and transmit.
I always turn off everything with a new gmail account (have many), attach it to a new phone (new gmail account), access account settings and turn off everything, including history and then later on, may slowly enable some parts.

Odd, I have never seen a single ad. Perhaps you are infected with a bad application or your carrier is crap.

100% agree on what you said.
I was able to suggest to Blokada that they allow "black listing" by APP and they agreed to insert this feature in a future update.
Cant wait for that to roll out!

After it uninstalled itself this morning, I am still left with a Vutalk uninstall app AND when in a call, I STILL SEE VUTALK on the call screen! What kind of half baked nonsense is this?
They should stop making junk like this, along with the rest of their bloat...

It did, but that button in a call still remains as does the non functional Vutalk Uninstall app. Very odd...
Hey, sorry for hijacking- but have any of you been able to get a Vibrate On Call Connection (as opposed to an outgoing call dialed) feature to work? I've tried everything outside of flashing a new ROM & basically the consensus is that it's an issue with LG itself.
I only tried to use Vutalk once as I only my mother had it. The app just uninstalled itself a few minutes ago so I searched and found this thread.
If you're rooted you can get rid of the remnants with Xposed (not sure which module it is, though)

I'm actually really upset that Lg took away VUTALK.. it really ruined my day when I found out perhaps it was one of reasons I decided to go with Lg in the first place.. is there anyone that can tell me if there's anyway around this.. I really want to make this feature work again and cannot understand Why everyone felt it was so unbeneficial.. it was very useful to me.. please give me any advice I'm not exactly tech savvy when it comes to this stuff.. but I was thinking if servers down then there's no way for me to go around it?

My favorite is blackmart. Tons of paid apps for free. Just google it and you can find their homepage to download it from. Other than that I usually only root to get free tethering but I found a way to get that without rooting this time so looks like I'll be holding off until we have some stable ROM's.

Yup. Not sure about YouTube (I think you need Xposed for that) but definitely Ads that appear all around some apps. In certain apps, the Ads totally disappear cleanly but in others they leave a black bar behind. That's depending on how the apps are designed.

Last time I checked out Cydia, it was for downloading paid apps for free. Correct me if I'm wrong.
However, Xposed is not for that. It's for making specific customizations to your ROM, as if it were cooked right into it. You need Xposed framework and specific modules for it to work.
Also, you're right about Samsung devices not being supported yet (work in progress).

i was searching around xda and found this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-sprint/general/lollipop-hotspot-root-flashing-t3048163 ... follow the steps and you can unlock the native tethering app that comes in the settings of android. i have the unlimited everything plan with sprint so i have unlimited, never metered data. and with this workaround, i dont even have to root my phone to get free tethering, which i sorely need. i use on average 75gb of data a month so there is no way im ever leaving this plan lol

Aw man that sucks. I had to leave ATT because even though i was grandfathered into the unlimited data plan, they would start metering me after 3gbs and i just couldnt stand it.
Ya they are being sued by FCC, lets see what happens, they start throttling at 5gig these days, but would surprise me if they did it at 3gig, they are not transparent at all

How did you get adaway installed? I've tried with no success. F-droid packages specifically state x86 compatibility only.

Just got it, any battery drain?
The free version is only an ad blocker for the "Samsung Internet Browser" only. The Pro version blocks ads system wide. No issues with battery here.

I had the pro version for free as a special offer on galacy apps for my s7 edge but when I moved to the note 8 it didnt work and i uninstalled the app. I wanted to install agaim bit haf to pay the 22 eur to have it back. As i restored the note to factory settings and restired all my apps from samsung cloud, i managed to restore disconnect pro as well and just updated from Galaxy apps. No charge!
Hope this helps some of you.
I do have PIA vpn and someone mentioned Disconnect Pro is based on Knox. Is it ok to run both? Or Disconnect suffice? Reason I asked after I head over to their website and it says VPN so yeah I am confused here lol.

It's not like adaway. It would be better if you get info from there website.It blocks ad trackers. In my opinion it does a great job of stopping ads coming through and no permanent notification showing all the time. Also disconnect pro uses Knox not vpn
I wanted to wait before responding to make sure there weren't any issues that popped up later. I'm happy to say that Disconnect Pro is working well. No battery drain (Knox based), you should be able to use a VPN with it.
If you bought it or got it for free with the S7Edge, just make sure you're signed into the Galaxy Apps Store with the same account and you won't have to pay. The button will have a price, but it won't ask for any verification and will skip directly to installing.

I tried side loading it on my N950F which has Knox tripped and is running the Renovate ROM. It installed. There was a three step process to initialize it. On the second step, it hung. I'm going to contact the developer and see what they recommend.

I use Chrome mainly, but any browser I think will have ads with no root yet on the V30 on U.S. carriers. What app is there that will prevent ads flooding the browser page ?
Ghostery browser incidentally prevents most ads, as a side effect of blocking trackers.
It is pretty basic, but runs fast. My only gripe is that it does not provide any way to sort bookmarks. It also breaks some images and other things that are entwined with trackers, but I accept that as a cost of blocking the trackers.
And the number of trackers blocked is astounding. A real eye opener. The Borg tentacles are many. Cutting them off is a visceral pleasure.

Most browser will have a ad blocker or extensions to add adblocker. I personally use samsung interney beta and use a adblocker extensjon. No ads,. The only browser i have seen which doesnt block ads is chrome. If u MUST use chrome then i recommend to search one of those chrome base browser like chromio or one i just downloaded BROMITE. Is a hack version of chrome which disable all ads withing browser.

There are many adblockers that work pretty well with Chrome (and other apps) without rooting the phone. To my knowledge: DNS66, Blokada, Block This, Seven, Adguard. Of course you won't find any of them on Google Play...
The all filter traffic through a local VPN on your phone. I use Adguard, because I paid long ago for a lifetime license, but if you just want to filter ads in Chrome, it's free.

I've been using Adclear for a few weeks now, and I've noticed a very minimal battery impact. Mostly about 1-2% at the end of the day. More so, I got frustrated with the very slow speeds. It worked, but sometimes web pages would take on the order of 30 seconds to load....

I've been using Adblock Fast with Samsung Internet for several years. I have yet to notice any negative affect on battery or browsing.
Blockada and DNS666 can't work for me. I tried them both, installed them, but they both won't activate.
- Blockada = Says no internet connection, and wouldn't actually turn on. I am on WiFi mode only, I did not put my SIM in this new phone yet. I uninstalled it, rebooted, and installed a different version. Same thing.
- DNS666 = I install it, and refresh the hosts right away, then press start., and it would force close. I deleted it, and tried again, same thing, when I press Start it would force close.
- So I went to the AdGuard route, I downloaded the latest 7.0 Samsung Internet Browser .apk, and there's ZERO ads now, and I have to say WOW the Samsung browser is super nice, really good stuff. ( I have been hearing from other people it's the #1 best Android browser this year, and I LOL'd at that, but man they're actually telling the truth ) it rocks.

Blockada was experiencing issues earlier. Mine turned off and wouldn't turn on while on data.

Don't know about blocking specifically for YouTube, but Disconnect Pro ($25 paid app on Galaxy Apps Store), is a rootless ad-blocker. Don't think it blocked ads in YouTube, but it does everywhere else.

I am quite surprised that no one has mentioned adguard. It is a VPN based ad blocking app that works extremely well. Yes, root is not required but to get the best features you need to subscribe to their premium service.

You can use Blokada to block ads without rooting.
Adclear and block-this are decent alternatives; please read about them before trying; both using local VPN.

I dunno about the basic version of Adguard, but I always found the premium version to be a large battery drain.
I'm going to try Blokada or SABS for the S9+, SABS sounds like the preferred solution except you have to renew the Samsung key every 90 days.
Is there a trick to getting disconnect pro to work with the s9+? I just upgraded from the s7edge. DP worked amazingly well on that device and I'd like to get it setup on my new phone.
I was able to download it but am not sure 9 of howto setup knox..
DNS66 is pretty good, and open source. It uses a loopback VPN and the usual filter lists.

It's bascially fire-and-forget, which is nice.
Complete it with the CLoudFlare DNS (1.1.1.1) and you're set.
I'm using sabs to block general ads, whereas for YouTube, I'd recommend that you use YouTube Vanced, it's basically a modified YouTube app without any ads on it and provides some customizations for your YouTube app. The good thing is it's usable for non rooted devices
