Samsung Galaxy J1 2016 (SM-J120G) - ROOT - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
I have a Samsung Galaxy J1 2016 (SM-J120G) device. I tried to root it with KingoRoot, KingRoot and TowelRoot. It failed. Can you tell me how can I root it?
Thank you!

Wrong.
1. No need to install TWRP in order to root phone's Android. You'll just boot into TWRP and not install it.
2. Also because phone is based on Spreadtrum chipset, ODIN isn't applicable.

Do the steps for rooting any galaxy device remain the same?
Like installing cwm via Odin and flashing supersu?
Can I use the same versions of Odin and supersu which I used for rooting my galaxy grand?

As their are multiple galaxy devices the answer is no.
Check your device forum .
You are posting in the wrong forum this is not for questions .

Galaxy s3 no CWM, just stock.

I tried to root my galaxy s3(with CWM in odin) but ended up being in stock recovery after doing the things with ODIN. What to do now?
Thanks

Thanks, this method helped me. For anyone else that didn't understand what to do because of the a bit poor English (no offense spitya ;_; ):
1. Root your device normally like you would have on your previous 4.4.4 firmware
2. Power off your device and enter into download mode
3. flash the the following file from spitya's fourth step with Odin
Or I don't know, maybe people do understand what spitya said. Thought I could make things a bit clearer.
can you provide me
original-recovery-cache-sma300fu-lollipop.tar

hello Sir and thanks for sharing this first.
I have something unclear here,my A3 is on 5.0.2 rooted, but with the reboot issue.
If i apply your method,I have to downgrade first to 4.4.4 or i just have to do the steps you specify?
best regards,pierre
Worked!
Thank you so much
AOB3 root ?? can i use same cf for nl1 or doi downgrade
Just to be sure. This is also the way to update a rooted 4.4.4 to 5.0.2? But then I can start from step 3?
Root working with all firmwares?
Dear Community,
please could you kindly confirm, if the method above works on all Samsung A300FU phones running Android 5.0.2?
Here I have a A300FUXXU1BOEC, Build LRX22G.A300FUXXU1BOF3.
The device was bought in Germany without any branding.
I'm a bit concerned to try as the software packages clearly state a different firmware version.
Thanks a lot for your support,
CMF

Edit:
I do confirm, that in my phone rooting worked as described above.
My phone rebooted automatically and was stuck in a reboot cycle. I simply hold the "download mode" buttons while it rebooted once more, entered download mode and flashed the original recovery cache. Then, everything was fine.

I followed these steps after trying with KingBoot and Kingo Boot (I have the same build and model as you).
Ir worked fine at first, but after rebooting (Step 5) and opening SuperSU it prompted the message "The SU binary needs to be updated. Continue?". When I tried to install the SU binary by following the instructions it prompted "Installation failed ! Please reboote and try again."
No app or log appears on the SuperSU menu.
What should I do? This is my first root!
Just in case it's important: I never uninstalled the KingRoot and the Kingo Root apps
P.S.: I need root to use DrFone for recovering lost data after someone stole and wiped my cellphone.! ...so each time I mess around with my files I could be losing data.

The only reason to use Kingroot is if there are no other options for your phone. You can root via CF Auto Root or via instaling TWRP and using that to flash the SuperSU zip. Plenty of info about this in the S5 forums here.
CF AUTO ROOT is available for 5.0 ..and TWRP is not available for this model
Can anyone kindly guide how to root stock S5 G900h on 6.0.1. I have tried odin method to flash twrp. After showing 'pass' and reset phone still no twrp.

Get a copy of your boot img from your firmware use magisk manager patch the img you got with your firmware then use Odin and flash that modified boot img and you will have root the better option tho would go to the A10 xda thread and see which twrp is avaliable for your device... And after flashing twrrp then flash magisk threw twrp I haven't had a Samsung device in a while I'm officially a moto user prefer it over Samsung but I do miss odin tho
