battery life terrible - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

my phone old 1week. terrible battery life. always on screen 1hour.. from 90% to 73% i used phone for messenger a little bit, facebook little bit and you can see status battery. tell me what to do... battery cant live for 10 SOT...... when i see in youtubes videos ,9 SOT... and the brigtness is always set from test you see and i dont pull lower or highter brightness on the test.... and i turn off 4g internet and i used 3g

hello , you need root or adb to enable extended battery stats for example from this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gsamlabs.bbm , and DELETE/DISABLE FACEBOOK it would kill any battery no matter what capacity

Look like a defective product to me. if you just unboxed it a week ago, you better off returning it and get a replacement.

oh by the way, you shouldn't root the phone just yet, it make it harder to return.

Battery Issue

My DX2 never charges to %100, I've tried the battery calibration app, no luck. I even tried to remove battery method, but it just boots into recovery, presumably because of bootstrap. I just flashed Eclipse 1.3, so I know I need to recalibrate the battery. Any suggestions?
For the remove battery method, you have to set it to charge mode in the bootstrap app. Then shut the phone down and give it a try.
That makes sense, thanks alot.
What % does it make it to before it stops rising?
Full is around 4200mv.

So, my phone showed me at 4200mv when I went into the battery calibration app.
I reset my bat stats because I hadn't since I flashed 2.0.3.
Do we recalibrate to make sure that 4200mv is truly charging up to 4200mv?

I'm running an edited build.prop-Mashup, Unthrottle mod, edited init.d for Speedy V7, V6super, and 3gTurbo.
I know, it's a bit much. The phone's fast, but somethings working too much. I will say I did run HBO GO for about an 1hr to 1.5hr to check the unthrottle for the guy in the other thread.
Anybody know what to get rid of?
Made it so only one instance of OOM Groupings and Minfree values are running.
I want to look over my settings with some of the universal tweaks this guy listed. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426443 I might try a few.
I also need to find an app that lists out every app and how long each runs and how long it uses data.
Is it kosher to have a thread where people list out what they are running with detailed results on performance - speed/battery? I'm a bit embarrassed to be the first guy and a Dev tears apart my post for running every tweak/script/edit in the boards.

streaming movies over 3g is what is sucking ur battery life like a hungry baby on a u.know what
that coupled with the display being on that long will chew up battery life. Id say.it could EASILY drain at least half your battery.
There is really nothing much that can be done to improve battery.life aside from managing diligently: screen on time , kill your 3g radio data when not using , leave off gps, etc...
Since we don't have ability to use custom kernels and.over/under clock and undervolt there is really very little u can do to improve battery apart from use management .
I realized after I posted that it probably wasn't best to post info on an abnormal day like today. I rarely stream movies on 3g because I know how much battery it eats. Was just checking to see if the unthrottle was true.
I was foolish to think there would be a quick answer that I hadn't seen yet. I'm going to start reading up on changes in settings.

Actually. I played games and whatsapp, also installed many apps. Watched music videos on YouTube.
Gives 4-6 hours only.
And yes, I installed juice defender. Nice app, does not show a marginal difference though.
Thanks.

My battery conditions is also very poor.It lasts for only 5 hours when I have turned off auto sync,internt,wifi,bluetooth,3g,lowest brightness.I played these fr 1 hour and 20 min phone call.Pathetic condition. Also the battery get heated up a lot..I am goin to try out the doubling the battery trick told ages ago in xda. if it fails,I am going to the service center,
Any one got better advices?
from Engadget
'As for the battery, with a 1,650mAh cell under the hood, and some potential savings to be made from the smaller screen, it managed a reasonable six hours and 33 minutes in our standard video rundown test (WiFi on, but not connected, and brightness fixed at 50 percent). In real-world use, we'd get well into the following day before we'd start getting nervous about finding a power point. If you're the sort that switches off overnight, then it might even last a full two days with moderate use.'
It's pretty strange. Without any WiFi or data activated, I get juice upto one and half a day max. With music gaming texting and taking few pictures.
I wonder how reviews stated the battery is good compared to other HTC devices.

Wow dude. How did your Des X screen usage only 19%????
Look at mine. Sometimes 59% and sometimes its 70+%!!! I'm confused. I'm using apex launcher pro with only only 3 homescreens and widgets. Frozen sense. I also set the brightness really low.
How did you do it?

I found the light sensor really useful - it's keeping the brightness low when the setting is on auto plus because of the proximity sensor while I'm talking the screen is off. I saw it just once spending 25% of energy after heavy gaming. I have setcpu installed which is helping the battery life while I'm not playing. See my current stats
btw I'm using this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35436322&postcount=17 if that matters.

Our screen is not that small - how many hours your screen was on during this 70% drain? Mine was around 3 hours within last discharge cycle. My point is that if you have your screen on 5-6+ hours/day 70% drain could be reasonable its 4" screen with 1,650 mAh battery anyway...

U know why his screen use is low? Its because he has many other apps running
No matter what you do just add up all the battery use and you'll get 100%
SO for him his battery is being used up by wifi, phone idle, stanby and other things so yours is better
Hit thanks if i helped you

Most of the time I have SetCPU configured with 245MHz min - 600MHz max - when I'm expecting more performance e.g. when I'll play a heavy game or something I'm changing the max frequency to 1008 MHz. The JuiceDefender is configured to enable the WiFi every 5 mins while the phone is locked, and to stop all connections (including the mobile network) at night. Also I found that NOT using an auto-task killer the phone is acting faster and consuming less juice.
BTW whats the difference between the stock auto brightness and this Velis application?

Post your battery life here and say witch L9 you have. And give the most details if you can
(I will get this phone next week want to see what you guys get out of this phone)
And i didnt see any thread like this. So i start one.
PEOPLE plz post also screen on time!!
edit have the phone. and it has good battery life will post mine soon also.
Battery life is very good, this includes mainly internet browsing with wi-fi and 1-1.5 hours of gaming, brightness always at 50%.
My cpu is undervolted a lot, for example I give only 860mv for 1000mhz, hotplug governor. I have 25% battery left so I could have about 4:30 hours of screen on time using the full battery charge.

your guys battery sounds great;
mine only lasts bit more than one day
For some reason, my battery life has gotten worse than when the image was taken. I am insane, mental, and deranged about battery life so I will have more specific percentages soon. I have tried ending anything I suspected was using the battery to save battery life. When the phone is charging, I even take the back cover off my phone to disperse the heat from the battery. Welcome to the most useless and pathetic obsession in existence.
As you can see, the screen takes up the vast majority of battery life, due to being at 50% brightness. Any lower, and I would have to bring my own flashlight. I turn off wireless unless I use the Internet. One charge ranges from 3 to 5 days, depending on how bored I am in school and how much Fruit Ninja/Temple Run I play.
Here I am again with more battery life measurements. Playing Fruit Ninja causes the battery to drain 1% every 3 minutes or so. On the other hand, leaving the phone on sleep mode causes 1% to drain in about 5 hours. Also attached are app percentage power usages to give a sense of what is using up all the battery.
Untitled by stojke21, on Flickr
Untitled by stojke21, on Flickr
These are my results with above average use(wifi or 3g always on,sync every hour,a little bit of subway surf...)
5h ?? what brightness u were using ?? 30% ? this is cool
How can your battery last so long?? Mine has never lasted more than one day, never!
The screen is always on 50% brightness, except when battery goes under 20 then i set it to 25 %... The screen on is never under 4 h... With heavy use, battery holds through the day easy... I'm very satisfied with the battery life of my L9..

4.1.1 Battery Life.

Can we get a consensus on whether battery life is better or worse, for those who have updated to Jelly Bean?
From my own experience, I'd say it's dramatically worse. After updating and using it for a week, I noticed the battery does drain a bit quicker than usual. And last night, i thought to myself, no big deal, I'll just factory reset, maybe that'd help.
Well, that was a bad move, strangely. After factory resetting and setting up my phone and apps, I noticed I had zapped 25% in just under 2 hours. No heavy WiFi usage either, just zipping around the phone setting preferences and just installing like 5 apps.
No such thing, battery performance depends on individual usage. I'd suggest using BetterBatteryStats to determine which apps may be causing wakelocks, and Greenify which hibernates apps of your choice to prevent them from running background services.
I'm not outright saying JB drains battery more than ICS, I'm saying it does for me, under the same usage. What I am wondering if others find JB has increased or decreased or not changed their battery life.
In my case, battery life has improved a lot. Using DX the same as before and now it lasts for 2 days where on ICS i was charging it every night.

i get atleast 12 hours of usage no.matter what on jb i got a max of 21 hrs usage for me battery life has improved but by a minor scale nothing too impressive actually
however what i really appreciate is when it comes to gaming i ran nfs most wanted for 2 hrs and some other games for another 2 hrs still got 4 hrs of on screen time

In my opinion the battery life is preatty much the same. I think this difference may appears due to the apps installed.
Longer battery life for usage mainly text and social, plus light browsing.
Build it power saving is good enough. Can stand for two days.
For me there is no change in battery life. However, I'm new with my HTC desire x(one month), my usage time last maximum 4.5hrs if I use continuously, browsing, play store, etc. but if I use my phone more less, like picking call, once a day checking play store, I get usage time around 2 hrs. But the battery life in total including idle time, it's 2day. Not sure if its normal. Can anyone give me some tips or help?
Btw, my wifi is always on, but not using continuously. Disabled all auto sync. I want to keep in wifi for viber and whatsapp and my favourite HTC clock and weather widget. Do u think this wil drain my battery in idle mode?
I tried to switch off wifi while going to sleep night. Approx 8hours when wifi off, idle mode, only 1% was discharged from battery. Not bad for idle mode. But usage consumption is horrible. Just going through some app menu and setting, not applying any changes, within 4 minutes it takes 1% of battery power. Is this normal for everyone? I think this is called as poor battery life for desire x. Now if I play a game or chat, message it might be worse. My brightness was set to auto and most of the time I prefer to keep it zero brightness. Because the auto brightness is not going to its minimum level of brightness even in dark night situations.

You mean you got 8 hours of usage time? Screen being on? That's something great battery then.. How is it possible? I get maximum 4.5 hours.

Yes I turned off the auto brightness and set the brightness level completely down to zero. I use the power widget to do this task with a click. Instead of going to setting>display etc..

I have disabled quite a lot of bloatware apps I don't use social networking apps sound hound and I don't remember rest so I pretty much have 175 mb + ram I want for smooth gaming I played nfs asphalt 7 subway surf a lot got about 8 hrs battery life but was gaming like an hour on each game with some breaks to check on email and browsing but my battery life has always been great
I think your mobile is better than desire x then. Because its not about apps for me. Whenever the screen is on battery drains faster. Sometimes I only attend some calls and SMS, then battery stays 2 days but the usage time is 2 hours. If I use continuously, then I get max 4.5 hours.

Battery estimation wrong...?

Hello guys,
When I first ought the phone (mate 20 pro), the battery would last 2 days with moderate to high usage( I believe the FW was .122), and the battery estimation were for ultra power saving : 150h at least with a full charge. Now it sits at about 69h and 26 h for power saving mode while normal mode (non performance mode would be estimated at around 23h).What happened with the .153 update that messed up the battery so badly? Any ideas ?
Model LYA-L29 with LG display
Could you guys please post pics with the battery estimations and FW number? I would greatly appreciate it

In my Mate 20 Pro, with .153 too (Spain), shows:
Time remain: 54 h (without battery sabe)
With Energy Save: 54h23min
With Ultra Energy Save: 129h 50min
all this with 80% battery now
Edit... Sorry, i go all time with Energy Save ON. But if turn off, i see +-4 h less in time remain: 50, 54 and 130 h. Remember i have now 80% battery currently, not full 100%
I think it learns off your usage, I hammer mine and I get different times every complete charge. But since I charge every night it only states about 20hrs usually, however if I don't use the phone except for calls, it will last longer than that. Very strange.

I suppose you've not charged it since the update, right? During the consequtive charging circles, the system learns how you use your phone and provides an estimate for the battery time left.
During the first charge circle the system has not yet gathered enough data and hence the estimate is not accurate. The more times the phone has been charged the better the estimation will be.

If you keep on not using your phone between the event and letting it drain in the standby mode, then after 2 or three charges, the system will adapt in this usage pattern and provide a battery time estimation closer to that usage pattern.
