Fit and Finish - LG V30 Questions & Answers

Anyone noticed any fit and finish 'issues'?
I've noticed that the primary camera is not centered relative to the bezel. Doesn't impact capability/performance, but is unexpected for a phone at this price point.
I can also call out the glass to metal frame interface is not "seamless". There's a growing accumulation of dust that is not easy to remove.
Any others noting these sort of things?

I own three of these phones and don't notice such things, no. Two V30 and V30+.
The two cameras are proportionally centered over the back fingerprint sensor, as they should be. So, I don't see what you are talking about.

The dust/water resistance on this phone is IP68 (higher than Apple's iPhones, higher than Google's Pixel XL) -- so your dust is not getting into the phone. The 6 is for dust, the 8 is for water.
Devices backed by an international standard rating of IP68 are deemed fit enough to withstand dust, dirt and sand, and are resistant to submersion up to a maximum depth of 1.5m underwater for up to thirty minutes.

If you have any accumulated dust, you can always wash it off under the faucet.

No need for the product sales pitch - this is not my first premium phone and I've done my share of studying over my decade + on these forums. This was meant as a harmless question. Sorry to kick everyone's dog on this. Very glad to hear I'm the only one with these QC items.
Back to your caves.
Cheers

Echo Mirrored Screen Protector

Clove sells a universal cut-to-fit mirrored screen protector from Echo, for £6 gbp. As if our HD's weren't sexy enough already. I'm going to try one of these. I think I'll just stick the full sheet on, then trim it with an exacto knife. But I'm worried about trimming the small receiver speaker hole. Any suggestions?
with a scalpel?a pointed one...
why not use the original screen protector as a template?
although i would imagine you will need a sharp blade, a good eye and a steady hand to not make it look like a pile of poop
i would think these protectors are meant for those screens that are recessed rather than full frontal (oo eerrr) like the HD is

I bought one of these on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Mirror-Screen-P...h=item220335185106&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262
Fit is perfect (no camera hole), but the colours on screen are a bit weird and screen seems darker. Took it off after a week or so.

whats the screen like when backlit? is it clear? what about texture when scrolling and using stylus?
I had this installed on my HD 2 weeks back. looks nice and shiny, but thats all to it. (bought from ebay)
Drawbacks:
1. The mirror coating is not smooth all over, if u see the above pics, u will see distortion in image on the upper right corner.
2. Very Very bad under the SUN! i really have to cover it totally with my hand, or take it in under a shade to see the screen. (u win some, u lose some!) Good for a few days as a fancy, but then now i am going to remove it off and put a normal clear one again. Had it running all the time on Full brightness - load on battery too! Its good enough indoors with full brightness only, cant use the Auto Brightness control.
I have this on my wife's iphone too, which i got from Javoedge - very good quality that is, and no distortions, but it is a bit thick!

Stick on with Matching wallpaper Cover

Has anyone treid any of these. Want to know if it covers all of the phone and how about a screen protector then and what the quality is like?

That's very nice. I was searching for such a site. Maybe I will buy one for my Touch Pro2 and PlayStation3. I like the design of the covers.
When I buy some, I'll let you know!

P.S. Sorry for my bad English. I'm Dutch, you know.
There was a thread on here about 6 months ago with a similar thing and one guy had pics where moisture had got underneath the the protector he had on and it made a right mess don't know if these will do the same tho
interesting that they give you a matching background... well thought out product for sure!
I just ordered the carbon-fiber setup. Will post my experience when it comes in.
thats pretty cool, gotta look into this lol
Got mine in today. About all these are good for is personalization and minor scratch protection of unimportant areas. The battery cover half only covers part way and will only protect from scratches when laying the phone down flat. The cutouts are perfectly positioned and lining the skin up is easy, but be careful not to stretch the thin material.
The front skin is less impressive. Unlike in the photos, it does not cover the chrome trim at all. It is exactly the same shape and size as a die-cut screen protector, but the screen area is open. If you use one of those types of screen protectors then this skin is little more than adornment. If you use the square-cut type then it has to be larger than the skin's opening, which is exact to the Tilt's viewable screen area. This means there will be some degree of overlap. You could cut a screen protector to fit the skin's opening, but the likelihood of getting it perfect and without gaps is not high. Again, be careful not to stretch it when applying, especially the very thin sides.
To get the included wallpaper you have to go to a website and enter a key that comes with the skin and verify your e-mail address used to order. It will then be sent in an e-mail. I tried to use it with SPB Mobile Shell and it was magnified and all pixelated for some strang reason. Didn't try it with Manila since I'm no longer using that UI.
I guess if you want a custom look to the outside of your phone, it's worth the $12 (with shipping), but don't expect a lot of protection from it. Also, when you pass a finger over the edge where it meets the device you can feel it. Probably won't be long before it starts lifting and getting all unglued or ragged.
hey Miami.... post some photos of the finished application if you can.

Here's a fuzzy closeup of the edge. You can feel it when you pass a finger over it and it will probably be no time before it starts to lift. I've already got a ragged edge right where the stylus goes in from nicking it with my fingernails. I'll leave it be as long as I can, but I don't expect it to stay on too long.

Problem: Keeping a grip on the phone. Solution: Paint the case.

I wasn't sure where to put this, but since it involves a case, I figured the Accessories forum was a safe bet. Like most folks who pre-ordered from Sprint, I received a free case as a little thank you for being patient....even though I wasn't. After a few weeks, my only complaint is that the case is very slick and I've had a couple of close calls when trying to get it out of my pocket and answer a call while in a hurry. I remember seeing someone mention a product called PlastiDip, which is a spray-on coating designed to add texture and some degree of weather protection. I found a can at the local hardware store, slapped some masking tape on the edges of the free case and this is the result.
Here it is with just the tape.

This is after 4 medium coats of PlastiDip with 30 minutes between coats.
And here it is after scoring along the tape with a razor blade and then removing the tape.
I'm not sure how long it will hold up, but it really added a nice grippable feel to the case. Don't look too close or you'll see that I didn't apply the tape parallel to the edge of the case. I also didn't do a really good job of scoring along the edge of the tape. However, the case was free and the spray was only around $6 so I don't have a whole lot invested. If anyone else has similar problems holding on to their phone, this might be an option to consider.
For reference, this is the stuff.
Nice work, thanks for sharing it!
Just a fyi the oils from fingers will start to peal the edges off. Good idea though
Dude plasti dip is the ****! I've done various car trim items in that stuff, it's incredible. Excellent idea, I'll try this if I get a case.
wow great idea, i got a few cans sitting at home
How about using grip tape? I always have leftovers from my skateboard decks.
About Plasti-Dip, spray from a further distance for more "grit". The closer you spray the smoother it'll look.
What about maybe painting with RTV? It seems like that might be cheaper as well as more durable.
My issue would be peeling over time, though it's so simple you might as well just keep reapplying it, nothing will beat it in terms of grip.
Pine tar....

Out of curiosity... How long did this hold up? I sprayed my nexus s 4g awhile back and it lasted a little more than a month. I am wondering if others had better success. I probably didn't do the best job.

Tempered Glass covers everything but earpiece..?

I'm looking for a Tempered Glass that covers the whole screen except earpiece, like the Spigen GLAS.tR
(Or generally with precise cut-outs only on earpiece and the sensors).
The Spigen is too expensive... Any suggestions for alternatives?

never seen one that's like the spigen and I've been buying a lot of these for this phone
There are ones that look like the one on the left but even those are quite rare
Looking through Amazon there's only one I could find with just the earpiece cutout. If I didn't already have Zagg glass on I'd order this one.

I'd be weary of those since they're just stock computer generated pics. The actual protector probably has a different cut out.

Yes there are lots of reviews for lots of different phones with that product auction. I read through many reviews and picked out the reviews that regarded the G3 before making my posts. Maybe you should stop attempting to discredit a product and a fellow XDAer when you don't know what you're talking about.

I swear by my PThink. Had it on since day the phone was released and it still looks perfect.
Yes Spigen is quite expensive but it's worth the money IMHO.

I can confirm http://www.ebay.ca/itm/380946516556 has the cutout precisely around the speaker. Bepak used to have a precise speaker cutout with another cutout right beside for the proximity sensor. Now they do not make cutouts like this and make the rather large rectangular cutout, however some eBay sellers still have some of the old version in stock.

HTC U Ultra aluminium frame / bumper - Devilcase

Hey guys,
Got this from Devilcase - a taiwanese case manufacturer.
Just fitted it, seems nice and high quality. Aluminium, with rubber pads in strategic places where it makes contact with phone itself

8bit, apologies for the late response.
I got it directly from devilcase at their website. http://www.twdevilcase.com/en/
Yes, I also got their full coverage screen protector (its in the photo if you look closely).
Overall, the alum frame is really nice, top quality, and perfect fit, but it does make the already large phone a little larger. Small hands need not apply at all.

You sold me on it :victory:
I'd like to ask if the bumper affected your reception? And does the tempered glass have some halo effect around the boarders? Got my Nillkin tempered glass and was so disappointed. After installing it, I just removed it. So much halo effect haha
