So my friend is making a custom rom. Every time I have to install a new version of the rom I have to go into the recovery. Download the files etc.
Is there a way to deliver OTA updates to a custom rom.

Now I know with titanium back up you can save apps its been a while since I have got into the whole rooting deal and I am thinking about doing it for the TFP. Now my question is with Titanium backup can I save stock apps i.e: App locker/Backup , Asus splash, and others also stock widgets? if there is another way to do so please inform me I just want to make sure I can keep all the stock goodness that you cant get back if you wipe and root.

it wouldn't be a good idea because those apps are in /system.
not saying its not possible, but OTA will require you to manually update your current firmware to stock before you can receive the OTA firmware update.
Well I just want the apps really they all work fine for me so I wouldnt need any ota updates as for firmware I would run a mod rom if I do go this route. I understand the whole no ota's etc due to rooting/flashing custom boot image

I want to go buy the S4 and I will definitely root it (following the posted instructions on here) but before i do, will i be able to instal OTA updates after and if not, is there another way id be able to install updates? I used Voodoo rootkeeper on my tablet after rooting and the 1st ota went fine and kept root, the 2nd ota killed the root even while using Voodoo...
Please, any any all responses asap appreciated. I want to get the phone asap as i am tired of my rooted Bionic.

Just wait for a rooted stock ROM based on the OTA to be made by a dev. You never NEED to take an OTA.
Thanks but im not sure what you mean. I have no interest in loading custom roms nor over-screwing around with the phone. Do you mean wait for another root process or wait for a download for an ota update?

Im guessing you mean a rom will be released again after the ota is out with the ota integrated in it... That process makes me kind of nervous as i need my phone for work as well as personal and cant risk screwing up the phone or erasing data eta...
There is pretty much always someone that releases the stock ROM flashable in a custom recovery so you can have a rooted stock ROM. Look at the dev beanstownm106 ROM in the development section. It is basically the stock ROM rooted with some very minor tweaks, but flashable with a custom recovery like TWRP.
BUT...there is almost never anything you can't do with basically any ROM that you can do with the stock ROM. So you really don't need the stock ROM...some people just prefer it. For my old Thunderbolt, it was pretty well known that for a long time there was a custom ROM, very similar to the stock ROM, that was more stable than stock (SkyRaider Zeus).
Another BUT: if you need Good for work, prepare for a constant fight with root detection. And you will want to back up your data often. I have a BB for work that I leave untouched (its not mine).
One more thing...the Loki workaround has its advantages...the bootloader is still locked and untouched, so it would be pretty hard to brick the device because you can get back into download mode and use odin to flash back to factory.
Whats the loki workaround? Also, im dont want to be doing any kind of flashing... I just simply want to root the s4 (which i now have) and be able to run ota updates or if not, download the ota and install the update manually. And if i get an ota, if it will kill root, even if i run voodoo.
Please, if someone could, let us all know if ota wont run or will kill root on say the s3 or s4 and if downloadable updates are another option... without flashing anything or going to crazy.

I have an Incredible 4g on Verizon that I acquired during the first week of release. I was fortunate enough to get it unlocked during the time when HTC allowed it from their site. I unlocked the phone, installed TWRP, and rooted my device (I'm not entirely sure how I did this).
It's been over a year now, and my phone is kind of sluggish. How can I go about updating this phone to the latest software? I'd settle for the latest OTA from Verizon, as long as I can keep it rooted.
I'm also willing to flash one of the other kernels, but I dont really have any experience flashing CM or Viper.
So what's the best way to go about doing this? How do you update an already rooted phone? Ideally I'd like to keep all apps/data during the update. Any information or links for how to update appreciated!

HTC Sense 4.0
Software: 1.43.605.3.710RD
HTC SDK API: 4.11

imo - the update is not worth it anyway. they other thread lists the changes... nothing significant.
if your phone is sluggish either find out what is causing it (app, etc), tweak performance using your root, or wipe it and start clean. i would not give up an unlocked, rooted device for this update.

Is this just for stock updates, or for Viper/VM mods as well? I'm willing to step up to 4.3 or 4.4 with one of these custom ROMs, assuming I can keep root.
Is this a complicated process to install one of these custom ROMs (anything special since my phone is so "old")?
Will I have to wipe and install from scratch as well?
You can always clear your cache and davek cache to help improve speeds.

Installing a fresh/new ROM is very easy, and it will indeed require reinstalling apps. However, Look at getting Titanium Backup Root - I highly recommend the Pro version - you can back up all of your apps and data. Once performing a full TiB backup to your external SD card, you can wipe and install a fresh ROM, then restore any/all apps and data backed up with TiB. The app will pick up right where you backed it up, settings and all. You may need to re-set up a few apps (such as email settings).
If you like sense, I recommend ViperLTE. It's very close to stock Sense, but offers several great tweaks you can choose to use (or not). Installing it is easy if you have TWRP recovery installed. If you don't have TRWP installed, look at mdmower's thread for that recovery. I also highly recommend performing a full Nandroid backup to your external SD card before doing anything.

Very true... I, too, lost root after OTA update. I've tried every method I could find to attempt to unlock bootloader now with update... even tried wipe and flash of stock RUU 2.17.605.2: unable to go back to older version due to updated bootloader (wouldn't let me load it).
It'd be nice if HTCdev simply updated for a .bin that'll work... I tried flashing unlock_code.bin from previous experiences... but wouldn't work either. Any rumors of a new method to unlock the new bootloader?

So.. The Android 5.1.1 version is here and I've unrooted my phone for the update, but it still shows "Could not verify." Are there any files that cause the verifying process to know that I had rooted my device? If yes, can I delete it or what? Or are there any other ways to update without flashing a ftf file? (1. Because that ftf file is very big and my Internet speed couldn't afford it. 2. Because I don't want to wipe my apps and data) Any help would be appreciated!

Step 1: reroot your phone while you still can.
Step 2: download any of a number of flashable, pre-rooted 5.1.1 ROMs with recovery (*.zip) floating around now and flash it with your current recovery, wiping only cache and Dalvik upon exit. This is what I've done to keep all my date and settings and still be rooted and have recovery on 5.1.1.

After I flash this, can my phone update OTA or the same problem will happen?
As far as we know, custom recoveries will always prevent OTA updates to our Xperia devices. Why are OTA updates seemingly so important to you? With your custom recovery installed, you can always simply flash the new update when it becomes available; often before the OTA update is released.

Can I use the AOSPA ROM? Does it need to unlock my bootloader to flash it?
Some consideration about this thread.
1) Not never the OTA updade overwrite the ROOT, example I passed from .627 to .28 through OTA update without lose the root and recovery. This depend of kind of update.
2) I think that to install a pre-rooted rom is not a good thing, because the baseband is almost always different an this can create issue related the WI-fi and carrier signal (3G, 4G).
3) I always installed the root, recovery and mod as well. But now I have understand that is not really necessary to install this. At least the stock Z2 have a good/beautiful OS and good hardware and there is no need to change some colors or icons to improve it.
I'm boring to flash and restore my data every new firmware or new mod. (now a new firmware is already certified and will be ready soon).
Maybe I will think to change the room when my phone will be obsolete

If you do not have an unlocked bootloader, you cannot flash anything but a pre-rooted stock 5.1.1 ROM with recovery. There are several types available in the General Z2 column.

Why would you do that? You wouldn't have root and you wouldn't have a recovery; you'd be stuck, unable to root and install a recovery. Do what I said and you'll be fine.

How can I get the new Updates for my Tablet with ROOT/TWRP?I know OTA can't be updated due to TWRP, but is there any way to flash updates dirty?! (like with LineageOS, OxygenOS, ... )
At the moment, if I try to search for new updates, I get following message:
The operating system on your device hase been modified in an unauthorised way. Try downloading softwar updates using Smart Switch on PC or visit a customer service centre.
Maybe someone got an early version of the Tab S3 with early factory Android and can give some enlightenment.

First, this should be posted in the q&a section. You're going to have to flash the upgrade firmware tar in odin. Then re-set up your device and re-root. It's a pita. Google has gotten better at saving your apps and data, which helps, or use something like titanium backup
isn't it enough flashing stock recovery and uninstall supersu via app?
I've been away from Samsung devices for awhile, I've been using Nexus but just got a tab3. I haven't tried this but it's possible that you could flash the update.zip that would be pushed to your device using flashfire. You would probably also be able to retain root and TWRP. Maybe someone with more recent samsung use could confirm that. However, based on the message you're getting the update looks like it won't be pushed to your device. And afik samsung doesn't publish the ota, only the full firmware so someone here would have to capture the ota and post it. Whenever samsung gets around to providing an update we can play around with it and see.
PS, do you have a flashable copy of the stock recovery?
