Do I have to do testpoint to unlock bootloader on global stable? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 / 5 Plus Questions & Answers

I dont have it very clear, do I have to do testpoint in order to unlock my bootloader in 9.2.6.0 Global Stable?

Now, you don't need testing point method to unlock bootloader.
You will need to unlock here:
http://en.miui.com/unlock/
It might be needed an Chinese VPN to do it
It takes 360 hours.
And then you can flash global rom. Be sure to keep bootloader unlocked or else the phone will need the testpoint method to work again.
I advise you to read a little bit on MIUI foruns before advancing.
I'm waiting to unlock my own phone, but so far I've managed to work with Chinese Rom in English, after gaps installation.

Is it possible to replace the recovery.img file in the ROM ZIP with TWRP? ie. rename TWRP to recovery.img, so that when it's flashed, you get TWRP with a locked bootloader?
I know this approach was used on older Xiaomi phones, but I'm not sure if it can be used with any model.

i'm kinda guessing, but if you push 'tempered' img in locked bootloader most likely it will bootloop.
anyway, how you get twrp without unlocking bootloader?

same situation for mine, come with 9.2.6.0 Global Stable. What I had done so far:
1. already received SMS for unlock permission
2. proceed to bind device & account, but stuck here, I got 86006 error.
Few methods tried but still failed:
1. tried many VPN for China, failed.
2. tried xiamitool to flash development or China ROM, failed because older version not allow, & bootloader unlocked are required.
I try to avoid test point, please help me. anyone know when MIUI 10 development will available to download?

There are only a few VPN apps that work with binding the account to the phone. Xiaomi makes it harder than it should be. I tried many apps on my new Mi Note 3 last night and finally found one that worked. It was Solo VPN.
You can also use PlexVPN or Turbo VPN up to v1.3 (can be downloaded from this thread. https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-4/how-to/solution-error-10008-unlocking-t3584341)

thanks for sharing. Solo tested, still 86006 error. Plex also failed, Turbo don't have China server, FlyVPN don't have free trial for China. Other VPN tried like Nord, VPN unlimited, Proton, also no luck. Why Xiaomi makes it harder?

Did you use the VPN Turbo APK from the thread I linked to? I've used Plex and Solo successfully this week. Choose the Shanghai server in Plex if it's available. Otherwise, try China and Hong Kong in those apps.
Edit: Note that you'll need to log out of your Mi account before connecting to the VPN and then try adding it from the developer options menu again.
Does the error message mention "API"? If not, the VPN might not be your only problem.

thanks for the tips. I just redo as you said. sign out then connect VPN Shanghai, still failed. if you read Chinese, this is the exact message: "86006 : 参数组合非法"
Do I really need to wait 360hours after SMS approval?

You need to wait 360 hours after you've bound the account to the phone, yes. It's 72 hours for older models and 360 for new models. There's no way around it. However, if you're receiving that message when you run the unlocking program, it sounds like your phone is already linked to your Mi account.

woow, 360hours! no choice then if this is their policy, have to wait. that's message is display when I click "add account & device" from mi unlock status. I will not get success unlock bootloader if run the unlocking program. will prompt you to bind your phone first. will share again once 360 hours wait is over......

dear tried your method but still not able to unlock boot-loader of redmi5 Plus, i have an old MI account which was used before Redmi pro and i have get permission to unlock boot-loader about 6 months ago, i am on latest official global Rom 9.2.6.0 (NEGMIEK) and i didn't find any way to unlock boot-loader and flash TWRP to install Gcam on my redmi 5 Plus.
tried almost every VPN and every method available on XDA but it seems if i am on developer rom than my MI account could be bind to device, also it shows that MI disable the feature in global rom for unlocking boot-loader.
Note: please correct me if i am wrong regarding disabling the feather of unlocking bootloader in global rom

if only development rom are allow to bind the device, then we gonna wait until MIUI 10 release

I faced problem 10008 in attempt of an unblocking of the uploader in redmi 5 plus.
If you have the Chinese firmware, then download the DNS Changer program https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.burakgon.dnschanger&hl=en)
You launch it and you select custom DNS. As the first dns you register 61.155.18.36, and the second 123.131.131.182 and you click start.

Unlocking Global Stable Rom 8.1.1.0 MHOMIDI

Hello I am from india and using redmi note 3 snapdragon with Miui global stable 8.1.1.0 [MHOMIDI] .
I got messege from mi that my account is verified now.
Overall...I did all things...to unlock my device officially.
But stuck on 50% ...could not verify device.
I did all things mentioned on each place of internet.
But failed .
1. Now I want to know clearly ...is it possible to unlock my device with global stable rom or not?
Because I do not want to loss my data again...
2. if its not possible to unlock global stable rom...then pls provide me compatible link for developer rom for my device in india ?
3. is it possible to switch from global stable to developer stable without losing any of my data and installed app?
Pls give me clear answers.
You can unlock on global stable rom. But you need to wait for few days (usually 4-5 days) before trying to unlock (applicable for developer rom as well). I was also in a similar situation. I flashed global developer rom, waited for 4 days and then it unlocked successfully.
And regarding flashing developer rom, you can flash the developer rom recovery zip from the updater app. Your internal storage will not be erased, but your apps and their data will be deleted. You can easily restore them if you create a backup from the MIUI backup app.

It doesn't matter whether you are on stable or beta rom. You get that "couldn't verify device" error because your mi account details have not been refreshed in xiaomi's servers.
Well, regarding wait time, it may vary. Once you give an unsuccessful unlock attempt, wait for 3-4 days before giving another try.
Unlocked today.
Now I can confirm....that bootloader unlock is possible on Global Stable Rom.
We don't need to go through developer beta Rom.
I had unlocked bootloader today on My Global Stable Rom indian variant.
Now What is the main key point to avoid stuck at 50%(could not verify device)...Read this.
1. Apply for bootloader unlock permission....with the same number which you are using in your phone Miui account.
2. Wait some days until you don't receive sms....after receiving confirmation sms...you again need to wait for 11 days.
3. After 11 days ...download unlock tool from Miui and adb driver.
4. Install adb driver....and check your device is showing in device manager on PC.
5. Now in your phone you must log into same account which you verified.
Also one more very important thing is that You must inserted that same sim card in slot 1 ...for which you verified.
if you used another sim card ...while log into same account...but still you will never able to unlock.
So must use same sim card.
6. Also must check mi cloud and log into there and verify your account there.
7. Now run mi unlock tool in pc as admin and log into same account.
8. Enable usb debugging and unlock options in your phone. And shut down.
9. Boot into fastboot mode and connect...unlock...will work successfully.
10. You don't need to remove your fingerprint or patterns before unlock...as I read on various place...it's not required.
Also no any data loss...after unlock it will auto boot...and your all data and will intact...
I was also getting couldn't verify device error. But after few days I was able to unlock it officially via mi unlock tool on 8.1.1.0 MM Stable rom. I am using ZCX TWRP Recovery and inbuilt root.

What do you mean by "global beta"? Global DEV ROM?
Can you please share what version did you use when successfully unlocked?
Unlocking working on Global Stable Rom too....
As I unlocked....
So it's not necessary to flash developer(beta) Rom.

please help phone bricked

I bought the rn3 couple of days ago and I was trying to unlock it with the unofficial method and I used the files included in this page
http://xiaomitips.com/guide/unlock-redmi-note-3-bootloader-without-official-permission/
After phone got unlocked I installed twrp and tried to flash 2 Roms but they both bootlooped so I tried to flash the stock firmware I got from the same page the phone booted but I noticed that WiFi and phone signal both don't work
Please point me to the right stock firmware that I can flash with edl mode because I'm not sure which version I got
I attached a picture of the box
I would really really really appreciate the help
First off all, going by your picture, you have a Special Edition "Kate" model and not a "Kenzo".
You probably need to flash an official rom again by EDL mode.
Recommend that you unlock the bootloader officially after doing the above. See the linked wiki for instructions.
Then read custom rom threads on the steps required to flash them on the "Kate" model.

Should I download the stable or developer version or is it not important?
It is easier to unlock the device on developer version, but both should work.
If you intend flashing a custom rom later, it doesn't really matter.

After a failed unlock attempt, wait for atleast 3-4 days before giving another try. I also had the same issue and eventually figured this out. Do not attempt to unlock in between those 3-4 days.

P Smart 2019 POT-LX1 EMUI 9.0.1.152

Hello,
I have unlocked bootloader for my P Smart 2019 POT-LX1 EMUI 9.0.1.152 (C432E8R1P12) using paid service.
I thought the life would become easier to root this phone now, unfortunately no..
With the help of XDA member KevMetal I have tried so many things to root this phone or even flash a custom rom. Something is preventing to let my phone boot up with new system.img, also no magisk build is working if I put anything other than original img files phone is bootlooping and going to eRecovery. The only custom thing that was almost working was TWRP for Honor device without touchscreen working (borrowed from forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8x/how-to/guide-how-to-unlock-root-honor-8x-t3864348).
Can anyone help to make Magisk work for this device? Or how to install custom rom? I am stuck now with unlocked bootloader and no root access :S
May I know where did you unlock the bootloader from? Did you tried openkirin?

Hello guys,
I registrated here in xda, to make ppl know that there is a possibility to bypass payment service for unlocking bootloader for free. It's silly to pay'em for administrate my phone, that I already paid for the device.
I think I got a solution that permits to obtain unlock code. The simple thing to do is download the app called 'Device Connect' from f-droid
Once opened, just tap settings on the slide menu, and there is Device UIN number and Device Password. I think one of those is that damn code.I didn't tried this yet and don't have 100% sure is correct code, but I think it worth a try. Only huawei make pay for unlock bootloader? Its first and last time I have bought an Huawei Device, not because politics, but because of their choice to close bootloader, so their bloatware can collect data, but even without root there is a possibility to clean the mess. First of all, Huawei isn't charging you for bootloader codes, the 3rd party programs that can unlock Huawei's bootloaders are.
Second, other manufacturers prevent bootloader unlocking on some of their phones.
Thirdly, bootloader codes aren't that short. UIN numbers from that app have nothing to do with bootloaders, try reinstalling the app and the code will change.
Example code: 9784200582026427 (P Smart 2018)
Only way that this phone can be unlocked is with PotatoNV and HCU ($19) as far as I know, but in the future there might be cheaper alternatives like DCUnlocker ($4).
And finally, Huawei has probably removed the command for unlocking the bootloader (fastboot flashing unlock) on EMUI 10+ so stay on EMUI 9.1 if you wish to unlock in the future.
Don't get me wrong I don't support Huawei for not allowing us to unlock the bootloader its extremely scummy on their side.
Just chill out and wait for people to find out a method for unlocking, or buy a Xiaomi phone and unlock it the next day.
Can someone give me a download link the 9.0 android rom for this device ? I want root it and i have to downgrade from android 10 .

[GUIDE] All in one beginner's guide to the K20 Pro

Considering this guide was written before the Mi 9T Pro was released, it's time to rewrite it and make it more relevant.
THE BASICS
GETTING PREPARED
-----------------------------------
If you want to tinker with your phone then you'll need some ground work.
If you don't yet have a Mi account, go to https://account.xiaomi.com/pass/register and create a new account. It is important, when unlocking the bootloader, to have your correct phone number registered on your account, so either choose to create the account using a phone number or add the phone number in the security settings of your Mi account afterwards. Make sure the number is verified by the OTP that will be sent.
Make sure you have adb and fastboot tools installed on your PC. These are part of the Android development tools. You can either install the official Android SDK Platform Tools which can be found here https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools
Or you can install only adb and fastboot from this xda members project, called minimal adb and fastboot. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790&p=42407269
If you want to know more about these tools then read the minimal adb and fastboot post, you'll find a couple of links that explain both tools in detail.
Install the Mi Unlock Tool. You can find this in the guide I've linked to in the bootloader unlock section below.
Install the Mi Flash Tool. This can be found in the guide I've linked to in the MIUI fastboot flashing section.
Install the drivers for the phone. This is done automatically the first time you connect the phone to PC, so go ahead and connect your phone to your PC and wait until it says the phone is ready for use. At this point the computer should identify the phone correctly as a Redmi K20 Pro.
UNLOCKING THE BOOTLOADER
-------------------------------------------------------
I'll point to 2 guides, both on the new, official Mi Community Forums.
https://c.mi.com/thread-2262302-1-0.html
This first guide is somewhat incomplete, but it does give some good extra information about the bootloader unlocking and has direct links for the Unlock Tool and previous versions. Sometimes using an older version of the tool will resolve unlocking issues.
https://c.mi.com/thread-1857937-1-0.html
This second guide is more complete, but not so well written. Again there is some useful extra info included.
CUSTOM RECOVERIES
---------------------------------------
If you want to flash a custom ROM or root the phone, then you'll need to install a custom recovery. Your only realistic option here is TWRP, however TWRP comes in many flavours. (Before anyone corrects me and says what about Orange Fox? This is, underneath it all, still a heavily modified version of TWRP) For a brief overview of what TWRP is, I'll point you to the official TWRP page which answers that very question https://twrp.me/faq/whatistwrp.html
I should point out that MIUI will check on every boot whether the recovery partition has been modified. If it thinks it has, then the boot process will automatically restore the system recovery. In order to keep TWRP you will need to either flash a custom ROM, or make MIUI stop restoring system recovery on boot up. The most common way to keep TWRP with MIUI is to install Magisk.
If you are planning on using custom ROMs, then I would recommend the official TWRP, or the current 'dev' version from the official maintainer both are found here.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/k2...icial-twrp-xiaomi-redmi-t3944363/post79823568
If you plan on sticking with MIUI, then there are a number of TWRP options that have additional functionality specific to Xiaomi devices - e.g. MIUI debloat scripts.
Many of these tend to be from Chinese, Russian and Indian developers, where Xiaomi phones are most popular. A selection of them can be found here.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/k2...irmware-10-3-8-0-9-6-13-t3939647/post79726515
Personally I don't use MIUI so haven't used these much, however OrangeFox seems to have some unique extra functions, like being able to survive OTA updates. So I would guess OrangeFox should be the one to recommend for those that choose to stick with MIUI.

Magisk has become the main choice for rooting, so use it. If you have problems with root and you're using something other than Magisk, you're going to struggle to get any help.
Magisk also does so much more than root. Check out the very good official documentation here for all you need to know.
It includes flashing instructions, which is the same whether you stick with MIUI or have a custom ROM. https://forum.xda-developers.com/ap...v7-universal-systemless-t3473445/post68966662
INSTALLING THINGS
From here I will assume you have some basic knowledge. I will not list every single step/command. The instructions won't be high level but at mid level giving enough details for those with basic knowledge. Many links in the previous post should give most of the knowledge needed, so there's no need for me to repeat things too much.
Where fastboot commands are given, I will assume you know how to use them i.e. you will open a terminal/command prompt/power shell window and also navigate to the appropriate directory if required.
I will assume you have checked the phone is connected with the
Code:
fastboot devices
command
INSTALLING TWRP
------------------------------
- Put the phone into fastboot mode (power and vol-) and connect to a PC
- On the PC
Code:
fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img
here you will need to replace TWRP.img with the actual file name of the TWRP image file, including the full path details if necessary.
At this point you have successfully installed TWRP, but if you boot into MIUI it will be lost. From here you need to boot immediately into TWRP in order to perform further steps to persist the TWRP installation.
- Whilst still connected to the PC
Code:
fastboot reboot
- Now as soon as you send the above command press and hold volume up on the phone
- Keep holding volume up until TWRP boots.
Now you are ready to do the next step. Depending on what you are doing this is likely to be flashing a custom ROM, installing Magisk or installing Orange Fox.
Reserved 2 - coming soon ish
Reserved 3 - hopefully not too long to wait
Thanks a lot for your time! New to this, because usually i buy Global phones, first time i buy a 100% Chinese one...
Interested in what ROM's you would recommend!

Initially that was what many people thought. But after people have flashed the Chinese ROM on an Indian phone, they have found that they've got a working NFC chip.
Sealed Chinese ROM works well after switching the language to English.
1) Update to the latest MIUI
2) Make sure Google Services is enabled
3) Install Google Play from APKMIRROR
4) Install Calendar Sync (make sure set it to autostart)
4) Install Contact Sync (make sure set it to autostart)
5) Install Google Pay, Google, Gmail, Drive, Google Keep, Photos etc
5) Install an English keyboard (I don't think you will like Sogou keyboard)
6) Delete all other bloatwares.
You can almost remove almost all bloatwares without ADB or root, except those of Xiaomi's.

There seems to be conflicting evidence here. Indian users have reported that they got a working NFC after flashing an official China ROM, but there's a new teardown of an Indian phone which appears to show that the NFC chip is missing.
It may be that some Chinese built phones were shipped over to India to cope with the initial demand, but that's a pure guess.

I just installed MIUI MS because I was facing some deep sleep issues on the stock ROM.
And there is a setting for NFC but if I enable it, it just turns back off. So maybe my particular device doesn't have the NFC chip.
Hello, in your provided link(second link in bootloading ) it is stated that you don't need TWRP to change ROM. So if I buy a Chinese version of K20 pro and I don't want a custom ROM, just MIUI 10 stable ROM ( I've seen a stable version released in Xiaomi.eu if I understand correctly) from a trusted source, do I need to follow your guide or can I just flash rom or even do it via updater app? This would make it much more easy. Thanks in advance

If you are on an official MIUI stable ROM and checking for an update says you have the latest version, but you know there is a newer version, then you can manually update by following that guide, using the section for updating via the updater app.
If you want to install anything that's not official MIUI, then you need to install that with TWRP.
One last dumb question:if I buy the factory sealed version of the phone with Chinese Rom, will I be able to change it to Global official Rom when it comes out? Or will I just get OTA updates and that's it, no possibility of changing official roms?

Yes you can change ROMs. You can flash an official Indian ROM using the Mi Flash Tool. See this post about flashing the Indian ROM https://forum.xda-developers.com/k2...king-flashing-india-rom-t3955129/post80025306
Nobody will know for sure that you can flash an official global ROM until its released, but best guess is that you would be able to.
Well I'm reading this from a galaxy note 4... a sh*t ton has changed, or at least it is very different with non-global phones.
If I understand correctly, the best, most safest way is to buy chinese factory sealed version so you can unlock the bootloader in case you lock it.
Which colour do you guys prefer, I like blue but I watched Frankie Tech video(s) and the red colour looks sick. Oh if you buy blue version will camera light also be blue lol. Gonna check out the other colour in another video.
Btw great guide, will try to stick with this note 4 for one more year as it just works fine!
Can anyone in UK confirm their experience with the signal/bands/carrier.

It's more a case of Xiaomi doing things different. They have an awkward bootloader unlock process. It needs to be done through their unlock tool, where you need to log in to a Mi account to use it, and that Mi account must already be bound to the phone you want to unlock, and you must have already registered, on the phone, to unlock the phone, using the same Mi account.
I've got the blue phone and yes the lights around the pop-up are blue.
I've not used it in the UK, but it should be fine on EE, Three and Vodafone.
O2 may be hit and miss depending where you are. Originally O2 only used band 20, which is missing from the phone, but a while back they added extra bands, this was in major cities and large towns. I'm not sure if O2 have rolled out these extra bands across more of the country since then.

Thanks for the reply. I have done a bootloader unlock before with the Sony xperia z3 using the official website, but there was no need to have an account linked to it kind of like apple icloud nightmare. Thanks for the info luckily I don't use O2 only Vodafone and three so far (8gb for £9 with three! Secret/hidden deal, no cashback bull). I would probably also go with blue.
That being said... the only benefit of stock China rom is OTA updates compared to "global" rom? I know there are custom roms but want to try out stock first, least bugs and only fair to give it a chance. Just want to build up my knowledge on this before I decide to say goodbye to my note 4. Also the actual global rom is on its way as far as we know?

At the moment there is an official Indian ROM, which is more or less the same as a global ROM, the jury is still out as to whether OTA works OK when flashed on a Chinese phone. It 'should' be OK, but there hasn't been an update to the Indian ROM yet, so nobody has been able to find out for definite.
MIUI isn't without it's bugs. The week I used it there were a couple of issues, and there's a thread just for collating bugs on the Indian ROM.
The global version of the phone, the Mi 9T Pro, should be released in the next couple of months. It's been seen on a Dutch online shopping site in the last week. It was only showing the 2 6GB models, but I've been expecting that, as the Mi 9 never came with 8GB RAM globally. It's €480 for 6/128 GB, so a huge mark up on the Chinese price. Once that's released then official global ROMs will become available

[GUIDE] Bricked K20 Pro after flashing (raphaelin) 10.3.3

Hello Xda and K20 Pro-ians.
Just wanted to share with you what I did after accidentally selected “ clean all and lock” options during the process of putting in K20 Pro India ROM (raphaelin) 10.3.3 into my K20 Pro which was running on China (raphael) 10.3.14.
Started reading the forum and somehow TEST POINT Reset was my last option as I can’t boot into the ROM and was at the Recovery screen, Tried EDL as well still no go
I read through some post, and one of the members mentioned about using an older version of Unlocking application. Immediately, I tried all possible version that I could find and so far version “miflash_unlock-en-2.2.406.5” did the unlocking and straight went into the newly installed India ROM(raphaelin).
FYI. the latest version of MiUNlock doesn’t permit you to unlock bootloader process for another 30days (Mi Policies)
Steps Taken
1. Got my New Phone ( China Rom ) updated to version 10.3.14
2. Read through the post in XDA and begin ripping off my warranty -> Downloaded India Rom 10.3.3
3. Unlock Bootloader (waited for three days) -> starts flashing -> With Clean all and Lock option being checked! - FML!
4. Tried to unlock again with Miflash version 3~ no go
5. Install MiFlash unlock 2.2.4
6. Booth into Fastboot. Run the app and waited for 6 to 8 minute for the unlocking process.
7. Phone restarted
8. Happy days!
If the post help, just buy me a beer

thank you again!
After installing 10.3.3 indian rom to your chinese K20 pro, does it automatically change to L1 security policy and your able to watch netflix in HDR?

Apparently that's the claim. I don't imagine there's going to be many volunteers to deliberately brick their phone just to try this out.
We'll have to wait for the next person whose too impatient to fully read the guides and accidentally bricks the phone, before we can get any validation.

Hi Zadjalixx, unfortunately, is still L3, xiao mi need to up their game for this ~ I didn't root or load any custom recovery like TWARP into this phone YET. My initial Idea is the review the phone so I can use it for my daily drive. Also I can't see Netflix in PLaystore, ( so is a bummer for sure ). you have any alternative that could suggest? thanks mate.

Yeah , so far that works for me , I have given up at 1st and ready to make use of the hairdryer to remove the back cover to perform the test point reset.
I read through some treads which I am having issues to trace back, by using an older version of miflash unlock we can unlock the phone without the wait for another 30days.
Like Robo says we need to wait for the next victim to do so ~ I should have recorded a video during that process. Cheers ~

you need to download the chinese or indian fastboot rom and install it trough mi flash tool, then once the rom is installed again, you can go into the menu to enable bootloader unlock. Then you probably have to wait a week until you can unlock it using the xiaomi unlock tool.
---------- Post added at 02:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:44 PM ----------
Everytime I use the latest unlocker tool my phone won't boot to OS anymore and the stock recovery boots up. I have to do a factory reset and then i have to apply for the bootloader to unlock again.
Is there an option to see the unlock time without needing to reset the phone?

How is this correct? While Installing India rom, the bootoader got locked and you’re stuck at the Recovery menu. How Can you Enable Developer Options to bind the ID again when the device doesn’t boot?
Are you saying post the lockout, you booted immediately into fastboot and used the Mi Unlock?

Hi Mate, you tired using MiFlash unlock 2.2.4 as well ? Does it work. Basically once i Login to using my MI account and I leave the application run for few minutes and then I am able unlock the bootloader.
Most important step is that you need to put your phone to fastboot then unlock using older version -> then you should be able to boot into your ROM then from there you can enter the developer mode. But initially you should have your phone unlock(boot loader 1st right)
hope it works.
You need to boot your phone into fastboot. in order for the application to work.
Recovery menu ( Original Recovery from Mi / I have yet to load custom recovery like TWRP )
you could restart the phone and boot into fastboot even you are in the original recovery menu. Not sure if that makes sense.
thanks
My problem
