LG V10 H901 not working on Freedom Mobile - T-Mobile LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey All.
So, I purchased the LG V10 (H901) from eBay. It doesn't work on Freedom. The specs say that it has the 1700/2100 AWS bands.
The phone is NOT blacklisted, as I made calls from it while roaming.
The phone is NOT locked, as I used sim cards from 2 different carriers (Telus / Rogers), and it connected fine.
When I tried to use a Freedom Mobile sim card, it didn't connect, other than roaming.
Before I purchased the phone, I called Freedom tech support, and asked them if this phone will work. The tech said that it should, and to confirm via the website, which I did.
I thought I had a bad sim card, so I changed it, and tried several sim cards, and still, no luck.
I don't know what's going on, but if anyone has any ideas about why I can't use this phone on Freedom Mobile's network, then I would really appreciate all the help I could get.
Thanks in advance!

I have the same problem. Right now it's just a paperweight.
This so called h901 was in fact a refurbished f600s (South Korea). So everything shows 901 (box, sticker under battery), 5.1.1 t-online firmware installed, but the board is from a f600s. You can install the proper firmware for the f600s, but it will come with some bloatware from a Korean carrier.

I have the V10 t mobile version. It works on Freedom Mobile. I also get LTE. Have you texted to 41111 and texted the word Setup. This will send the proper apn files to install.

Also have you updated to nougat? That is what I have unrooted of course.

I if you do a forum search under Star S5 you'll find a number of people with the same problem. I think you're referring to the same phone. Mine works very well in Holland. One of the guys with the reception problems is from Canada.
It is a Star S5 in the documetation but Google lists it as a Z2.
Needrom.com has a couple of roms you could try. I have the latest custom one and it works great.

[Q] US Cellular GS4 On Verizon

I have dug around quite a bit, and have been unable to find an answer. I have a USCC GS4 sch-r970 running android 4.2.2 baseband r970vxuamdl. I want to be able to use it on Verizon. When I put in the vzw microsim it says "invalid sim".
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Short of a carrier unlock not sure... If you own the phone some providers will unlock it. I can use Friends US Cellular S3 with my sim but it will only allow me 3G no 4G

You could also try something like this... *Note* not for your device but may work.

I tried that unlock method, and unfortunately it didn't work. If I flash the Verizon firmware to the phone, would that do it? When I installed CM10 I started picking up CDMA networks other than USCC.
My thought, is that since the device uses an lte sim, I could just activate the sim on VZW, then stick it in the GS4. I know in the past it couldnt be done with CDMA, since carriers run a database with their own IMEI inventory,

[Q] Using the Galaxy Note without a data plan?

I just got an unlocked galaxy note that I want to use without a data plan so I tried transplanting my AT&T flip phone sim to the note but I get a message saying "sim not allowed mm#3". So of course I can't make any calls other than emergency. Does AT&T restrict smart phones to use only sims that have data plans? Do I need to root and use cyanogen to get this to work? Does anyone if that will even work?
Thanks
Hish
U sure it's unlocked? That message usually means it isn't...
Use the free unlock available, I used it without issue on my note. You'll should be able to use ANY Sim with an unlocked phone, regardless of data or no data.
The Amazon seller advertises it as unlocked. That's all I can say for sure. Does the unlock you refer to require root? Would you happen to have a link to the unlock?
Thanks for the help.

A little searching goes a long way sir. Googling "i717 Sim unlock xda" would have got you what you needed.
You don't need root, but you do need a custom recovery. Twrp is easily installed via Odin.

Yes, at&t won't let you use any smart phone without a data plan. They will just add it to your bill.
But this phone won't connect to the network without an updated sim card.
You don't need root access or network unlock to run an at&t sim, you just need a sim made for a smartphone.

I'm fairly certain you are incorrect. Its your sim card and you can put it in whatever phone you choose.
With that being said I am in Canada and on Rogers, so I can't very well confirm this. Maybe someone else can weigh in?
If an unlocked phone uses another carrier sim you get a screen to enter unlock code.
He is using an at&t sim so its going to connect to the voice/sms network automatically in an at&t branded phone if the sim is compatible.
That old flipphone sim won't work in a smartphone. The OP either needs to upgrade the sim or call at&t and have the sim reprovisioned (if they can).
---------- Post added at 12:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:29 PM ----------
And when the OP calls at&t they will tell him to use that phone he will have to buy a data plan.

Yes that's true, I'm not disagreeing with you here on the connectivity.
The later however is false. I know for a fact LTE capable smart phones are backwards compatible with "3g only Sims" aka his flipphone sim, so what you're saying is incorrect. I work with this kind of equipment on a daily basis at work.
The later is also false. All he needs to do is go to a corporate store and say he lost his old phone and sim with it, and needs a replacement. They'll provide a new one, and link it to his existing account and merely charge him a replacement fee.
I thought Canadians were polite . . . Amigo, you're just offering your opinion, but I just went through this with at&t for my sister-in-law. She had an old HTC flipphone and wanted my HTC smartphone with a great keyboard. We put her old sim in and got that error code. We went to an at&t corporate store, and they gave us a new sim and we left with a working phone. After a day of using it she got a text message saying a two gig data plan was required. When she didn't acknowledge that, they cut off the account.
The sim was free. Don't tell me I'm wrong when you don't really know what you're talking about.
I can sim swap between my work phone which is a flip phone and an iPhone 3GS both are on at&t without any issues so I'm not sure what you guys are having trouble with. I believe what the OP is asking for would require spoofing an IMEI of a flip phone aka dumb phone.
There should be some info on how to do that in the at&t Galaxy Tab forums.
Good luck

You can use an old flip phone sim card in the Note. I have an older Cingular 3G Sim card (now at 8yrs old or maybe older) that I have been using in my last few smartphones. Including the Note. Worked perfectly fine. And because my phone was Canadian I was able to add the MediaNet unlimited data plan for only $10 a month. Been using it that way for years without an issue. I have even tested it in AT&T branded smartphones briefly and never had any issues.
Edit: Searching the web, that error may mean there is an outage in your area. If you physically look at the Sim Card what color, words, and pic is on the card? Sim could be worn out also. But in the end ATT will not let you use that plan with this phone for long before charging you.

The two posts following yours confirmed what I was originally saying sir, and quite frankly I do know what I'm talking about. I work ICT for a North American wide company and regularly travel to the states supporting events that require this kind of connectivity.
As for you're sister in law, she probably got that message because a background app was attempting to use data, and it wasn't disabled on the phone, thus the text. This I have also encountered.
Back on topic, I agree there may be a network outage in your area. But if all else fails a visit to the AT&T store can't hurt. Worst case scenario just sell the note on Craig list
Lol here in the US we dont have kijiji, but an alternate called craigslist. I do believe using the sim unlock method plus deactivating data might work. Try using the phone in another area to confirm ices theory of an outage.

It has to be on AT&T to be updated.
Its realy rave! Many people need firmware Nougat for H820 AT&T, really need KDZ or TOT File.
If i have AT&T sim, but i am in Ukraine, can i receive OTA?
I just did it!
I went to ebay and bought an ATT Go! phone sim card. Was about $2 shipped.
I then went to ATT Go! phone website and activated the card. All you need to enter is an email address and your zip code. You also enter in the sim card number (on the sim card) and the IEMI of your phone.
Then it will ask you to pick your plan. It doesn't matter which one you pick because you're not going to pay for it anyway.
SUBMIT! and it takes a few minutes, but then it will say you are activated. Then you can put the sim card in your phone. Wait about 5 minutes before you try to "check for update" on your phone. If it says "no update, please check in 24 hours" just change the date on your phone to tomorrow. Check for update again, and it should work.
After 25 days, the sim card will deactivate, because you didn't put money on the account. When this happens, the sim card is trash, no longer will work ever. Just use it as a tiny coaster.

AT&T S9+ G965USQU3ARG7 to Sprint/Boost - Activation Issue

I have a Galaxy S9+ that currently has AT&T firmware G965USQU3ARG7. I registered the phone with Boost, but the hands-free activation will not start, nor do the usual methods work like ##72786#, *#*#72786#*#*, or update PRL (that option is not available on the software). So I was wondering if I could use Odin to flash the latest Sprint firmware to the phone? It looks like the latest Sprint firmware on Sammobile is G965USQU3BRK1, and appears to be a couple months newer than the ARG7 that is on the phone currently. Is this something that I could do, and that would allow me to then activate the phone?

The latest Sprint firmware should be CSAB, which is pie?
Can you elaborate on hands free activation?
Activation for what?
You should have no problem using Odin to flash whatever firmware you want, but because you're on an MVNO, it'll take some tinkering to get everything working. First, I would check to see whether Boost sells the u version or the u1 and flash according to the phone they sell under their own service.
Sent from my SM-G965U1 using Tapatalk
Thanks for clarifying the latest version! Its weird b/c Sammobile did not list CSAB for Sprint, but I did see it listed for Verizon. Either way, that should work for my application.
So the "Hands Free Activation" is what Sprint/Boost/Virgin use to program the phone to work with the network. Simply inserting a SIM card like you can do with the GSM carriers is not enough to get the phone working with their network. You have to tell the carrier the IMEI and SIM of the phone, then the phone will go through the "Hands Free Activation" process, then it is ready to use.
Both Sprint and Boost phones use the same firmware, and the specifics to each carrier are handled during the "Hands Free Activation". So I will try out the CSAB firmware later today and report back on if that works!
The issue you're running into I don't think is necessarily firmware related. The phone is probably carrier locked to Sprint. Has sprint provided you an unlock code to switch carriers?
As far as switching firmware, because you're with an MVNO, personally I would not flash a "U" (carrier specific) firmware unless Boost has carrier specific features you would benefit from using (Which I doubt).
Reason I say that, Sprint uses a different technology/system to provide simultaneous voice and data and using a Sprint (or other U firmware) might cause compatibility issues, in that regard, because you're on an MVNO that can't/may not utilize Sprint's unique system.
That being said, Sprint has (finally) gotten on board with VoLTE which is universal, and has started to implement this into their network.
Most MVNO's have limitations on BYOP (bring your own phone) plans because of the firmware carrier restrictions placed on the phone. For instance, when I switched from Verizon to Straight Talk, I immediately wasn't able to use simultaneous voice/data because I was running Verizon configured firmware through a different carrier.
This was corrected by flashing a universal (Factory Unlocked) G965U1 firmware. This enables the universal VoLTE option the phone has instead of trying to bridge voice/data with Verizon's preset configurations.
Most MVNOs that sell devices with their service, almost unanimously, sell factory unlocked phones that aren't branded to any specific carrier.
Your best option, in my opinion, is to emulate the devices THEY sell (including Boost) by flashing G965U1 firmware (latest package is CSA8). Either download from XDA or Sammobile "XAA Unknown" region for carrier.
That firmware package, when loading it into ODIN you'll have two CSC files. Don't use the CSC_HOME file, use the other one. This will perform a full wipe (backup your data) and change your carrier to "Unknown" and effectively make your phone universal (which boost prefers).
Since Boost has already activated your IMEI on their network, your phone "should" automatically configure itself to their network at the initial setup after the flash.
If you continue to run into any hiccups, let me know and I'll try to help you work through them. Let me know either way how it works out for you. [emoji16]

By the way, flashing U firmware will remove all traces of Sprint from the phone (All the bloatware) and enable free caller ID. Which is a plus of using Unlocked firmware. You can download the boost app through Google play to manage your account after you set up the phone again.

I just noticed you said the phone was AT&T branded. As far as I know, AT&T Sim locks their phones and you'll need the unlock code from AT&T to use the phone on another carrier regardless of whether you use ODIN or not. I'm assuming you have this code if you're trying to use the phone dialer to change carriers, correct?
Sent from my SM-G965U1 using Tapatalk
You are correct that I did get the SIM unlock code for the phone! I also really like the idea of flashing the U1 version of the firmware to the phone! I will get that download started and try that later today, and keep you posted!
Thanks!
Jordan
You also didn't mention anything about APN (Access point name). This points your device to the appropriate bands and connects to the provided network. You could also try googling Boost's APN settings and changing yours accordingly and seeing if youre then able to connect to their network. Sometimes this must be done manually when not performing a factory reset after switching carriers/sim cards.
Try changing the APN settings and see if you're able to connect. If you can, great!
If you can connect to both voice/data simultaneously, even better.
Then it's just a matter of either leaving the current firmware or switching to unlocked to remove the bloatware and gain free caller ID. [emoji16]

Its funny that you mention the APN because that was actually the first thing that I tried I found a few different configurations that did not seem to work unfortunately! I am certainly not ruling that out as part of my solution to getting this phone activated though.
The simultaneous voice/data thing is where you sold me! If I can make that work then I would be STOKED!

Sprint is still in it's early stages of VoLTE integration. They were suppose to start implementing it last fall, but that was delayed until December. Most markets are seeing VoLTE already. As long as your APN settings are correct and you're running U1 firmware, you "should" have VoLTE right off the bat. If not, it's a matter of time for VoLTE to pop up on your phone one day soon and have it at your disposal.

I've never used Sprint or Boost, but I assume you're not using a sim card, correct? You're going from GSM to CDMA and because CDMA doesn't use a sim card...which is the trigger for the sim unlock prompt, that explains why you're not getting a pop-up. The dialer code you tried that did nothing was the likely the wrong code to trigger the prompt too. Let me know. [emoji6]
Sent from my SM-G965U1 using Tapatalk
---------- Post added at 08:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:15 PM ----------
And just to clarify... Your sim unlock code is a completely separate code from your dialer code to trigger the prompt. I don't want you to mistaken the dialer code as an unlock code. The unlock code will have to be provided from AT&T and you'll have to provide your IMEI to release your phone from their network and they will provide you with an unlock code. If the device is paid in full, you can request an unlock code through their website after providing the IMEI number.
If you have a separate unlock code that you haven't mentioned, good.

I did get it working!! I used the #7465625*638*# code first to re-enter the unlock, which was successful. After a restart, the phone was still not activating, so I used Odin to install the Sprint version of the firmware (not the U1 because it was not downloaded yet). The phone restarted and immediately recognized the SIM card change and began programming/activating! I now have it working, and am in the process of writing the U1 firmware as I am typing this response!
Thanks so much for your help on this!!
Jordan
It didn't immediately start programming/activating because a restart alone wont trigger a CSC change. You have to perform a factory reset or completely flash with ODIN for the CSC to switch to another carrier/region whenever you're switching between gsm/CDMA networks. Going from a GSM to a GSM carrier it would've made the switch immediately, with the exception of maybe tinkering with the APN settings.
Switching between gsm and CDMA is a whole different animal and requires a full reset to make the required changes.

I think you'll like the U1 firmware much better. It won't have the Flipboard and unnecessary/unwanted crap hogging your memory/storage. It's very barebones and unlocks some free goodies too. Glad you got it working though [emoji106] without it, you probably wouldn't be able to get VoLTE with boost. We're you able to make voice/data simultaneously on the sprint firmware?

The bands used are determined by firmware. All the carriers , Sprint included, all have capability of running on 26.
