Can any XA2 Ultra user share its stock wallpapers by extracting it from its system folders please? I know the liquid wallpapers are now available online but I am looking for the ones that have loops in them. And I am not talking about the live wallpapers.

I don't know if these will help you, or if you'll have the same amount of bad experience trying to download these as the original firmware through XperiaFirm (I assume). If there's a particular image file or files you want out of here, if that'll help, let me know and I'll upload just the image file(s) you need.

No trouble! Would you like me to provide the image files (assuming I don't have trouble downloading) from the non-Ultra XA2 for you to get the files from? I assume you just need the equivalent file(s) to the Ultra's 1.27 GB "system_X-FLASH-ALL-18AE.sin"? Any particular XA2 model #?

I think any XA2 model will do.? I was trying downloading firmware myself but it's always unsuccessful.? If that won't cause you any trouble, that'd be great.?

No trouble, I'm currently downloading "H3123_Customized US_1312-1865_50.1.A.10.40_R13A". I presume you can get inside or extract the system*.sin file yourself once I upload it to Android File Host, or wherever's best for you - Mega is also an option for me if that's better for you. If you have trouble downloading that, too, I can try to follow directions at [Tool] sin2raw v0.2 - new tool to extract sin files *updated* to get to the files you need.
Edit: Or the UnSIN that comes with XperiFirm.

It wasn't hard. I'm sure you could do it at least once you would be able to get ahold of the complete firmware or just the system image. After I used XperiFirm to download and extract the most recent XA2 H3123 firmware, I put a copy of the UnSIN.exe (linked to from the author of XperiFirm's signature) in the same folder as the largest file, the 1.26 GB "system_X-FLASH-ALL-18AE.sin". I opened a command prompt in Windows from that folder, and typed:

which created the 2.78 GB "system_X-FLASH-ALL-18AE.ext4".
I used the free 7-Zip from http://www.7-zip.org to extract the "system_X-FLASH-ALL-18AE.ext4" into a folder. Note that this is a good, easy way of getting files of any type out of stock system images, whether you're talking about wallpapers or APKs. There are more complex methods required for doing some other things like decompiling framework files, etc.
I then used GPSoftware Directory Opus, which is not free (or even cheap) - it's a Windows file management program that I use instead of Windows Explorer, now called File Explorer - been using it since before it was made for Windows, since 1991-1992 to be exact - to display all the files in the extracted "system_X-FLASH-ALL-18AE.ext4" in a "flat" format and without displaying folders. I then filtered for JPGs and PNGs, copied them all out while keeping the folder structure and that way found where the wallpapers were. Apparently in the path "system\etc\customization\content\com\sonyericsson\wallpaperpicker\wallpapers".
The wallpapers (in a 7-Zip archive you can extract with the free 7-Zip I linked to above) are at https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=277920.

The apk is really just a ZIP file. Try renaming the file to whatever.apk.zip and open using your favorite ZIP utility. You should be able to view all the contents. Resources (such as images) can be extracted. The java code is compiled into a .dex file so you can't view the raw code, but there are utilities (like this one) to decompile it: http://dedexer.sourceforge.net/

Right but how do I find the *.apk if I am downloading it off of the market?
apps are located in data/app/
There are also various apps in the market that will backup apps.
I use appmonster incedently.
7zip can extract and view contents of an apk without renaming.
backup and reinstalling apps....
view the first link in my signature.
I used MyBackup Pro to do a backup of my apps onto the sd card, then I used ASTRO file manager to navigate to /sdcard/rerware/MyBackup/AllAppsBackups where I found the file LastBackupApps.zip. I then used androzip or something similar to unzip that file and it contained the apk for every one of the apps I backed up.

I have a zip file with .apk.p files in it which are exracted with package_extract_file in the updater script. Is there a way to manually extract these, since renaming to .zip doesn't help if I open them with any unzipper program?

I believe the files you are referring to - the files ending in ".p" - are "patch" files. They only appear in the OTA download .zip file, and they are worthless to you. They are not complete files, but just enough data to patch the corresponding 1.5 app .apk so that it turns into the 2.1 version.
If you want the complete .apk files which they correspond to, just download the Leak-V3 .zip file, extract the "system.img" file, and then unpack that file using the "unyaffs" utility (search for it, you'll find it at code.Google.com).

Thanks for the info. I thought I can update the apk files manually, because from recovery it doesn't work (it is a rooted image, so signature not accepted) and there are some fixes in the new update that I wanted to give a chance.

* 1 - Download Converttool
* 2 - For simplicity, extract it to your C: Folder
* 3 - Go to C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Update Service\db\13740270(this number may be different)\blob_fs and sort the files in size order. (this is presuming you have already got SEUS installed [on your c drive] and have already used it to flash your phone with the firmware you are wanting to decrypt).
* 4 - Copy the three largest files (one is around 145MB, one is around 15MB and one is 57kb) and paste them directly into the Converttool folder that you extracted earlier.
* 5 - You should now have three files in your Converttool folder in the format "FILE_XXXXXXXXX" (mine are called FILE_277668258, FILE_277660897 and FILE_277196791)
* 6 - Open up the 'Run...' command in windows and type the following :
C:\ConvertTool\SeusDecrypt.bat FILE_XXXXXXXXX (replace FILE_XXXXXXXXX with the name of your largest FILE - mine is FILE_277668258 so I would type C:\ConvertTool\SeusDecrypt.bat FILE_277668258)
* 7 - Press Enter, wait a moment and you should have a compressed folder with the same name as you have just entered but with the extension ".tgz" within the Converttool folder.
* 8 - Repeat step 6 then 7 but replace the text FILE_XXXXXXXXX to the name of your second largest FILE.
* 9 - Repeat step 6 then 7 but replace the text FILE_XXXXXXXXX to the name of your smallest FILE(this bit is optional really)
* 10 - Now extract the largest ".tgz" file USING 7-Zip BECAUSE WINRAR WILL REPORT THE ARCHIVE AS CORRUPT!!!!! then you will get another compressed folder, this time in the format ".tar"
* 11 - Extract the second largest ".tgz" file USING 7-Zip BECAUSE WINRAR WILL REPORT THE ARCHIVE AS CORRUPT!!!!!
* 12 - Extract the smallest ".tgz" file USING 7-Zip BECAUSE WINRAR WILL REPORT THE ARCHIVE AS CORRUPT!!!!!
* 13 - Extract the largest ".tar" file (this time you can use winrar if you want ;-p)
* 14 - Extract the second largest ".tar" file (this time you can use winrar if you want ;-p)
* 15 - RENAME the smallest ".tar" file as "loader.sin"
* 16 - THATS IT! you should now have extracted all the files you need. The steps with the smallest file are optional because Bin4ry has included the "loader.sin" files with flashtool anyway. Very last thing, before using the files with flashtool they will all need renaming eg. from "kernel_S1-SW-LIVE-AC12-0001-S1-PARTITION.sin" to just "kernel.sin" etc.

I do not think this procedure has been updated to reflect latest SEUS and PC Companion. They do not leave the larger files in the db\13740270\blob_fs folder. The largest I have is 10kb after the SEUS repair.

Ok, what are the names of your 3 files?
Edit: I have downloaded your files, they are named as follows:
FILE_277441866, FILE_277410324 and FILE_277196791.
so you need to open the "Run..." command and type into it :- C:\ConvertTool\SeusDecrypt.bat FILE_277441866
then repeat for the two other files.(eg. C:\ConvertTool\SeusDecrypt.bat FILE_277410324 and then C:\ConvertTool\SeusDecrypt.bat FILE_277196791)

Have you copied the three files into the converttool folder in the c:\ directory? If you have then when you run the command a compressed folder will appear in the converttool folder.

I haven't explored the sync features in Zune yet - are you sure you can't get them through that??
Otherwise, .esco files can be opened like a normal zip. Look for the big .esco firmware file (around ~370MB) and extract the .img file from it. If you can read the contents of the .img file, I reckon you could get them...

As the new ICS 4.0.3 seems to have gotten rid of the libraries required for call recording, I am willing to extract the relevant libraries from a 2.3.6 ROM, replace and give it a shot. I already have a few of them with me, for example Official DXKL3.
I need to extract the following 3 files -
system/lib/libaudiopolicy.so
system/lib/libaudioflinger.so
system/lib/libaudio.so
How can I extract these files from a ROM?
On you pc or on you phone click extract here. And will be exctracted about 6 files. Navigate to system app and find wht app you want. Copy and replace. I guess I understood right what you mean.
Get a utility program like 7Zip, IZarc, WinRar on your PC & open up the zip/tarfile & you can see the individual files & extract same.
However...
What you're attempting to do will not work. Different framework.

Thanks... Though when I use 7z, it only extracts zImage,factoryfs, etc., only a handful of files. I cannot see the individual files in the file system. Also 7z cannot extract these files anymore...
Ahh I think I was talking about already "cooked" ROM, and you guys are talking about the source? Sorry I am very new to the terminologies used. If that is the case I will check if I can find these files in the source tarball.
Try another program if 7Zip doesn't work. Try IZarc. I can see every file in the roms I have with it.

to open *.img file inside the rom download diskinternal linux reader and mount the img file inside the app.
tried and tested when i needed to copy a file from another rom.

Hi guys im a noob to the forums and to rom customization in general looking for some help
I have a generic MX dual core, and have been supplied a flash firmware and image from the supplier. This image is basic and has a lot of bloatware apps which i want to remove and put some of my own
The image supplied is a zipfile and contains:
factory_update_param.aml
hd18d_mx4.zip
recovery.img
I am able to successfully restore my box with this image (so I know that the image is working fine).
Within the hd18d_mx4.zip there is:
Directotories: data, META-INF, recovery, system
files: boot.img, bootloaded.img, logo.img
I can see the all the system APK files within the system/app folder. The problem is when i try to add another APK file into this directory within the archive (in this case videomix.apk), I am not able to restore the image to the MX device.
Can anyone help me with a noobies guide to do this. I have read that the apk file has to be signed, and the zip file has to be signed also?? But im not quite sure what this means, nor how I go about doing it.
Any help or tutorials will be much appreciate. I have downloaded the APK-multi-tool but dont have a clue what I need to do
