have an s8 but want to change to the note 8 so wanted to ask a few things - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

is the tmobile versionv of the note 8 different in terms of performance compared to the unlocked version?....does it lag more is there no difference>...cuz the tmobile is 200 bucks cheaper than the unlocked version

I have had both a T-Mobile S8+ and a T-Mobile Note 8. There are differences (e.g., the stylus ) but IMO, both performed identically. I have no experience with the unlocked versions, but can say that all T-Mobile apps can be either uninstalled or disabled without rooting.

To me big different the note 8 feel a lot better , faster , bigger and plus the 6 of ram that's way I switched from s8 plus to the note 8 this is just my opinion.

There is no difference performance wise between the two. They have the same exact hardware, and T-Mobile add very minimal apps to the stock software. But the T-Mobile firmware is also optimized for T-Mobile network and features.
Buy whichever is cheapest. You can always follow the guide here to flash either the T-Mobile or unlocked firmware on it. Right now I'm using a Verizon Note 8 on the T-Mobile network. I flashed the T-Mobile firmware on it, and works perfectly.

[Q] Is this phone worth it for Tmobile?

Currently I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 for Tmobile. It's practically brand new at about 2months old. I like it a lot but I kind of want to try the Note. I want the Note 2 but it's too expensive and not that much different than the Note 1 so I figure that it's a good way to capitalize on it by getting the cheaper note 1.
Most of the used Galaxy Notes I see on craigslist are ATT version, Tmobile is rare. If I buy a i717 version, is it worth the trouble? I like the bigger screen of the note versus the S3. I'm not sure if it's going to be a big downgrade though. Does the note 1 have jelly bean support now? How is the battery life compared to the s3? S3 drains fast and needs to charge in the middle of the day if I use navigation. Otherwise nightly.
I'm not sure if by using Tmobile I can get 4g on all the ROMs or if I will be limited to just a few here and there. Would i be better off getting a Tmobile note 1 or just keeping my S3?

I would recommend getting the T-Mobile version if you are on their network. I have a i717 and was using it with T-Mobile, but it was hit or miss. Sometimes I'd get pretty good 4g other times edge. Now I'm on straight talk (att sim) until the mvno's get LTE.
I use my At&t branded on T-Mobile and have no issues at all. Just make sure its unlocked.
Personally I have not noticed any network issues.

I use my i717 on tmobile and I get 4g all day. Whether flashing a modem or not. Make sure your in a refarm area as well. Also we can cross flash so you can flash a tmobile note rom on your device and get usual tmobile speeds you would get if you purchased a tmobile note.
I think the Note has its advantages over the s3. I like the screen size and the spen. The note dwarfs any phone not in its class.
We have jellybean as well.
It's user preference.

Thank you so I just bought an I717 today. I would like jelly bean (preferably Note II rom) but not sure if its buggy or not developed at this point.
It came rooted and with a weird ugly rom, Im not sure what it is. He said he used it with tmobile but i dont know what modem he used.
I read that the Blaze modem is the best but is it only for ICS?
I'm confused. If the phone itself is unlocked, I.E. calling att to unlock it or buying an unlock service on ebay then do I need to mess with the modems? My area has tmobile refarm.
Or if I cant get it unlocked "factory", then is that when I flash the modem?
Which roms are we limited to if were using tmobile or am I free to use any rom once it's been unlocked?
EDIT: I went on the tmobile forum and if Im not mistaken, I flash a rom, then flash a tmobile modem, and even if its a modem for ICS it should work for jelly bean?
I got this phone for my mom as an "upgrade" from the samsung s3 because to her shejust wants a big screen. I want it to be as similar as possible to the s3's OS and right now she has jellybean with touchwiz.
Are there are jelly bean touchwiz roms or a note 2/galaxy s3 port?

[DISCUSSION] Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Canadian Thread

I just wanted to start a thread for any fellow Canadian people looking to discuss Canadian specific details of the phone.
I'm pretty excited to preorder the phone. I will most likely go to Sherway Gardens in Toronto to do it. Anyone know what the pre-order incentives will be?

Good question about the pre order stuff we never seem to get the good stuff like the US does lol
A 256gb micro sd would be sweet.
For me it wont matter i guess though since even If I get one (which im not 100% on just yet) I wont waste my money on a Canadian version with the snapdragon in it since the BL will be locked on it.
This isnt exactly Canadian specific but worth mentioning.
Honestly if you want root, twrp etc just buy a exynos version and bypass the snapdragon BS version.
Ive bought a few exynos samsungs locally here in Toronto in the past and even got my Note FE off Ebay so easy enough to buy.
They end up costing the same or less as the snapdragons anyway. My S8 plus dual sim cost less than the snapdragon version lol.
You may miss a few features like wifi calling or VOlte but small sacrifice for an unlocked bootloader really
Just my .02

Might just do that. I would love to get a dual SIM version they may offer from Asia.
The only thing I was hoping for at Sherway Gardens was to be able to trade in an old clunker for 200$ off like they sometimes have. 1300$ is a spicy meatball.
Anyone know which international model plays nice with our Canadian basebands? If I remember correctly F/G variants worked well in the past, but need a confirmation.

Hi All,
I am interested in obtaining the "F" / "FD" (Dual Sim) variant of Note 8 , with a base storage of 256 GB, 6 GB or 8 GB RAM.
I know it is not available in the North American Market, but as an example, if I were to order something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pre-order-2...hash=item4d615eae63:m:mGiwyjAXrkDPzAr6rav0gew
The Korean Model, will it work in Canada with LTE speeds, regardless of which carrier I will be with (ROGERS, BELL OR TELUS)?
Also, is it true that the Korean Model will have a base RAM of 8 GB vs. 6 GB for all other models?
Thanks.

I heard that Korean Model has dedicated S/W installed that can not be removed?
Can we flash via odin or SmartConnect or whatever utility that samsung uses to factory restore to stock firmware, so it is not bloated with carrier app(s)?
I really want to get the dual SIM Card version (also is it dual active / dual standby / dual -LTE) - what I am hoping is, I have personal A/C with ROGERS with limited data here in Canada, but my business work corp A/C is unlimited data ; so hence the reason for dual SIM Card.
Also, 256 GB comes with 8GB RAM or is it 6 GB RAM?
Thanks.

I sent them a long email (polite and detailed) about this in hopes they will. The more people who contact them (phone or email) the better but who knows. Doesn't hurt but also made mention of how the US trade-in list for that discount includes the S5 but not the Note 4 when the Note 4 came our 6 months after the S5. Also that Note 4 owners who skipped the Note 5 for the Note 7 have no alternative and should be allowed to trade-in a Note 4 as well.
Fingers crossed but I won't hold me breath. We get screwed up here in Canada all the time. If no discount then Samsung has lost me forever and the LG V30 and Pixel 2 are just around the corner as well and since I've waited this long I can wait a little longer.
Samsung needs to do something here in Canada too, I had to send my Note 7 back twice just like our friends south of us.

I had pre-ordered on the 23rd. After several emails to Sammy, I cancelled my pre-order and made it very clear that my reason was due to the lack of communication etc from Sammy Canada. I even brought up the fact that they seemed to have learned nothing from the Note 7 fiasco last year!
I am getting the Blue one from Bell. Paying the $1350 man I wish our dollar was stronger. Also login to Samsung's promotion website and pre register the micro SD card and wireless charger. Anyone else buying it out right?

Need Guidance using a Korean Note 8 on T Mobile

Hello guys. I bought a Korean Note 8 (N950N) and I'm currently using it on AT&T. However, because it's an unlocked phone I can't get full speed LTE on it. I've lurked around on different forums and the only resolution to this is to buy an AT&T branded phone and call their tech support and give that IMEI as your Note8 IMEI and then you'll get full speed and all the other features.
I wanted to ask you T Mobile folks if I switch carriers, do I need to jump through these kinds of hoops or do you get full LTE speeds out of the box on unlocked, korean Note 8?
Thanks in advance for your help/suggestions.
Not sure if anyone here will have the Korean version. However, the best way to know is to just put a tmobile sim card and try the speed. You can go to the store and they will help you out.

I love my Korean version of the Note 8. 500gb of phone storage (256 + 256) is handy. The only downside I've found is using Samsung Pay. I get the 'invalid sim card' and 'try again' error message. Australian Samsung Support wont offer anything more than 'contact the source country' (Korea). At least Samsung Pay is working on my Samsung S3 Frontier so i can live without it on my phone. I'm just a bit upset the ebay seller advertised that Samsung Pay would work on this international model.

Snapdragon Love Anywhere???

Last Galaxy was S6, jumped ship to iPhone 7S to please the wife, was ecstatic to go back to S9 via T-Mobile aka "Uncarrier".
I was more excited to finally go back to XDA to check the dev scene, but no love for the Snapdragon Varient? I know International aka 960/5F got the unlocked bootloader and usual Day 1 roots.... but does anybody know why the Snapdragon scene isn't active at all?
My T-Mobile S6 Edge was a breeze to root and so many amazing ROMS and Cross-Device Dev too. And that wasn't Exynos either.
Point is, I'm sure I'm not the only one and you guys arent alone out there. I'd love to see how people are enjoying their device, any dis/advantages to our international sibling, and also any tricks they're using to "poweruse" their device.
Cheers

If there were any Snapdragon versions they were not in North America. The US carriers were all Exynos. I had the Verizon version and it was most definitely Exynos. They did not want to use the 810 so I am pretty sure there were no Snapdragons anywhere for the S6.

Put simply, it's because Samsung has made the S9/S9+ SD variant EXTREMELY tamper-resistant. Old methods to achieve root that worked on, say, the S7 or S8 no longer work.
As far as I know, there's only 1 dev working at it. For now, one can only be patient and see what happens.
Other than that though, it's a solid phone that I am enjoying right out of the box. And for now, there's a working hotspot mod, so that's nice as well.
Root on g9650 Hong Kong version can be achieved (see https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...comm-sm-g9650-hong-kong-china-t3764542/page27). I think nowaday there is no way to unlock bootloader of the us variant.

General USA T-Mobile - surprised to receive Oxygen 13

Purchased from OP US website, but it's not carrier activated or custom logo'd.
(Long story short- bought last year as upgrade to 8T but sock-drawered it waiting for 6 months to finish elapsing for 8T unlock, then news came out re 11's better specs & January release...)
Last night turned on 10T no sim \ on Samsung hotspot & was presented in order: ~ 750mb security & fixes\stability update, OS 13 {4½gb), then another update ~ 650mb.
None had the usual T-Mobile is presenting you a necessary update message & phone has no T-Mo apps or splash screen (in contrast to previous OP models N10 & 8T). And T-Mo hasn't yet released 13 upgrade for any handset 8\9\10. Model# remains cph2417.
So I'm assuming this time OP not selling carrier-locked models(folks had problems using 9 on Verizon) \ if I'd activated 10T, T-Mobile would've foisted their firmware \ locked phone \ would still be waiting on 13 upgrade?
Hhhmmm...
CPH2417 is not the T-Mobile model, it's the factory unlocked U.S. model, meaning you would have gotten those updates regardless if you were using a T-Mobile SIM card or not, CPH2419 is the T-Mobile branded 10T, that one has not officially received OOS 13, neither has their 10 Pro, 9 Series, or 8 Series.

Wait really? That's good to hear, hopefully this means the 11 and future models are safe from permanent bootloader locks, I still won't upgrade from my 9 Pro, which is a true flagship from OnePlus, plus it's the last model with Custom ROM support, and MSM Tool, not to mention mmWave 5G.

Hopefully it's because OnePlus tired of T-Mo upgrade delays. Although to be fair, that intransigence helped for Android 12.
I also hope that T-Mo doesn't lock 11 during its activation.

Agreed. Although with 11 having the latest Snapdragon we're getting up to triple 5G Carrier Aggregation, UFS 4, LPPDR 5... and all those combine to use lots less battery & run cooler (beside the multi-gig download speeds).
Plus from me, coming from the 10T, they're re-adding everything removed from your model: adaptive refresh down to 1, QHD, notification slider button...
The only critiques:
A. charger downgraded from 150\125 to 100\80 depending on model. For me that 10T brick charges 8T quicker (which comes with 80\65W version).
B. 512 gb variant nowhere to be seen in OP Store.
C. No e-Sim yet?
I used to do the custom roms back in Cyanogen days, but today I have too many finance, \ betting \ work apps- plus Samsung Pay on Galaxy Watch (managed from Android phone app) I don't want trouble with.
Maybe I'm just being too ignorant or lazy about today's custom Roms.
All the best.

Yea that's one thing I'm tempted about the 11, the 5G support is insane, I'm jealous it has official N77 C-Band 5G support for Verizon, here on my 9 Pro, it has it, but I have to have root to enable it, plus I don't get the 5G UW icon. Not to mention battery life is atrocious on my 9 Pro, I usually get around 3 and a half hours of SOT. But then I remember no MSM Tool, no custom ROM support, so it will die on Oxygen OS 17.

A. Don't forget that the 10T charger is also a 45W PD charger, same with the U.S. 10 Pro charger, the new 11 charger is the same 80w charger found in the international 10 Pro, and is not PD compatible.
B. I bet it's gonna be an exclusive color down the line.
C. U.S. and EU models do have eSIM, and apparently dual nano SIM? Not sure how accurate that is.

Everything you just mentioned (except Samsung Pay, don't have a Samsung Watch, I have a Fossil Gen 5) worked for me when running a custom ROM, I'm currently rooted on my OnePlus 9 Pro running Oxygen OS 13 F.20, and it all works, thanks to Universal SafetyNet Fix magisk module, plus it makes my WideVine L1, so I get 4K streaming. (Peep the screenshots).

Activation? What do you mean? Will the 11 now start "activating" itself upon first setup?

No. I meant that when I take phone to T-Mobile, hopefully they won't lock it when providing the SIM \ service.

Wait. I thought my 8T charger was 65W(Int. 80), my 10T 125(150 Europe). Am I confusing or misunderstanding the numbers?

Thank you so much for this! I'll really look for this with the 11 if it becomes possible (if the OP Fold coming later this year doesn't tempt another trade-in ROTFL).
