Huawei Mate 10 Pro - Samsung Health - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

Hi. Huawei mate 10 pro is not counting steps in S Health app when app is running on background. All other pedometers work perfectly, however Samsung Health works only when switched on on main screen. I've excluded it from battery optimisation, added auto launch and gave all the permission. Clean installation Done, but still not working. Any help?

Background operations is an issue with this phone. Everyone of us are waiting this to be resolved sometimes.

Many thanks for that. I was suspecting that and made sure that app has got all priorities and nothing is killing it. Unfortunately that is not enough. Let's hope some update will come out soon.

I have just got the P20 lite and the same thing is happening. Glad this is not just my phone but a bit annoying regardless.

Huawei predudice
Ive tried to get my Samsung health tracker to work on my Mate 5,even taking out the Huawei health app . Still does not work not only that it does not work with the Charity miles app. which I use to donate money to charity ,I dont know if the apps are not compattible or one is blocking the others ,

I use the huawei health app which is working fine for me

If you use gear fit or watch there is no problem as the accessory stores the information on itself and will transfer it when needed, but the app only, won't count steps accurately.

Why wont it work with charity miles?

The phone is way better than my old Samsung but now I cant donate money to charity by running or walking ,everyday like I used to ,seems kind of unfair ,maybe thats one of the bad points of this phone besides it being a security risk according to the pentagon .

Tbh I think it's not. The us government is the one that's been called out spying on everybody by Snowden, even their close friends like Germany or Canada. I am not saying the Chinese don't do that but nobody has ever proven anything. So pretty much the only country that has been caught is accusing others... Kinda suspicious if you ask me. I mean there are so many hackers and developers out there that find security flaws and bugs everyday and post it online or tell those companies for reward money. Don't you think by now someone would have found those backdoors the CIA is talking about?
For the phone: tge killing of apps is no bug. Same as the display dimming. It has been around emui for years and it is part of them making up for Kirin inefficiency. Sometimes it even kills Google maps while navigation it really annoys me when on my motorcycle since I have to stop to use the phone.
If you want reliability you have to use the Huawei app...

Mine stopped working with the 132 update ?
Huawei update to fix things then break other things get used to it ?

Huahei mate with charity miles

Add NFC to One plus 2

We know that google introduced new mobile payment system i.e. Android Pay
In order to use android pay we need to Have NFC on our mobile device . One plus 2 which is known as "2016 Flagship killer " Should have NFC so , can we add NFC to OP2 as I have seen two terminals at back of device.
IMHO it doesn't make sense to release a 2016 "flagship" without nfc, now that there is all that payment thing going on; this is a dealbreaker for me.
let's hope they make a nfc enabled back cover or something.
yeah i really need a nfc enabled back cover, or a diy NFC solution is also ok

Over time millions of people will lose their jobs because of people getting used to using their phones with self checkout registers. Millions of people who will have less money to spend on things or services that other companies need to sell in order to hand out paychecks to their employees. This will have terrible consequences.
and people will lose their job because we use electricity instead of oil to light up the streets...
but the handsfree system could use Bluetooth
http://www.slashgear.com/google-hands-free-sounds-like-android-pay-sans-android-28385795/
if adoption is good enough this could make nfc useless

This isn't really a very good argument. You could say the same about any technology. Might as well be living in the stone age.

Wait, doesn't this argument work for credit cards at self-checkout registers too? Or... cash? Not sure how the phone is relevant.
May be NFC is not used frequently , but for those people who need it , it is necessary

Of course it does. And it's relevant, because NFC payments that are being authorized by using your phone's fingerprint scanner are making things MUCH easier and faster. The more people get used to paying this way, the more self-checkout registers you will see in the wild.
You guys may be laughing now, but last time I bought something from IKEA, they had at least 6 or 8 self-checkout registers open but only one where you could pay in cash. Pretty much the same situation at a nearby supermarket and the hardware store and this is just the beginning.

I don't know about laughing, but certainly chuckling at how dramatic you're being. I for one welcome our new robot overlords. As others have said, technology will always displace jobs, and new jobs will alwyas pop up in their place. At least, they have historically. ATMs "replaced" bank tellers like 40 years ago, and I'm sure people were crying to the heavens then too.
Sorry you lost your job, though.

Which brings me back to my previous argument. What about the car? I bet plenty of horse and buggy drivers lost their jobs. What about automatic telephone connection? Switchboard operators lost their jobs. What about computers? Plenty of manual calculators lost their jobs. Do we just denounce all tech?

ok the following:
a) that payment thing is going on for quite a while and it will take another while until it will be well established and if you're so much for the latest stuff, by then you'll have the next or over next generation device already
b) you can add nfc to ANY device for exaxtly 1$ and by typing your bluetooth address into the right spot. since i do not have oxygen OS i can only tell you where that is when i have the device and albeit i don't currently us nfc i will probably do it just to show all the moaners how silly they were
to pay so much attention to something so easy to solve.

1) you can pay with NFC since some years ago, so it's not a new tech waiting to be accepted and widespread, because it's already.
2) NFC has a lot of other uses other than paying.
3) I expect a flagship to have at least all the hardware that the other mid range and even some low cost phones have.
4) If you like the phone buy it. I won't.

yeah, we flew to the moon in 1996 but still the average user cannot book any trip up there. those payment methods are both, available very sparse and used even more sparse. my point was not if it's technically available or if it exists, it was about whether this is a MUST have NOW which it is not, albeit i agree it's a NICE TO HAVE which is not the same. if it's that important to you just choose any other device with that feature and everyone is happy. i have wireless charging and don't wanna use it and i have NFC for years and only use it since lollipop to fetch settings from google upon clean install, which i can do without also so it's ok to use it but if not, wo what. of course this does not apply to everyone, but then again, those people should and/or will simply opt for another device, no harm done.
BTW i'm looking for years to again have a phone with xenon flash which i had on my nokia N8 but never found one that suits, if any. but because of this i do not complain every day why the "stupid" oems don't make one. it is as it is and what we get is very good and getting better.
why should i pay twice as much for another imperfect phone from sony or samsung and the likes. no. they are all flawed in one or another way, bezels, build qualities, price tag and so on. so if i have to choose i take best value for money which meets my priorities.

That's funny, I went to IKEA this weekend and used a self checkout line and paid with cash. Most if not all self checkout lines accept cash...
Mobile payments have NO influence yet over companies adding self checkout lines!
The thought/point you are trying to make is invalid.

Starbucks seems to think otherwise.
http://www.nfcworld.com/2015/07/24/...ks-sales-in-the-us-made-with-mobile-payments/
People *****ed when stores like Walmart, caused problems for the smaller stores, now Amazon is hurting Walmart sales, it never ends. Even so, it was one of the most stupid moves for One Plus to make, was to not support NFC. So much for "Never Settle" and "Flagship Killer of 2016" Even cheap $179 Boost Mobile phones have NFC.
Has anyone considered adapting something like this?:
https://www.kickstarter.com/project...onfcboard-easy-nfc-for-the-internet-of-things
or
http://www.micro4you.com/store/nfc-module.html
One could easily place one of these devices into a case that would carry it on the Oneplus 2.
The first one is an autonomous NFC capable device, so it would seem that you could find a way to use your device to send a message to the device to make a payment via something like bluetooth. The problem (with at least the second) is that it would probably require root to get the drivers and required libs and HAL settings installed into the OS, which would cause Android Pay to fail it's checks, so that would still be a no go. But, if someone in the community had the ability to adapt it into a workable solution, we could lobby Oneplus to include the drivers in a future Oxygen OS release.
I would be interested in assisting in the development of this as a project if a dev who had more knowledge could spear-head it. Certainly, someone who has knowledge to say if it would ever be possible with the requirements of Android Pay to ever work.
As a side note...does anyone besides Samsung Pay use magnetic secure transmission for payments? It seems like a better method in the long term.
I know these aren't for sale anymore since Samsung bought the company, but this seems like it would be doable if any other companies were pursuing it: https://www.looppay.com/products/ Until Samsung bought out this company we would have had the option to buy this device and simply adhere it to a case and use LoopPay to make payments. If this is possible, then surely this or another method would still be a possibility. We just need to find a way to retro-fit it into the current AndroidPay software without failing checks.
By the way, if you are dying to make mobile payments and have a OnePlus 2, you can still find the Looppay device if you scour the internet and the Looppay app is still a free download. It connects to the phone over bluetooth. The downside to the device is that it is a bit large.

Google on the fall

What do you think? Since MM Doze never really officially worked, Nougat's "enhanced" Doze barely works.
I'm wondering what happend to Google? They release half working internal official releases. Has the Developers been there too long? Too tired to care make something great? Or is Google just hiring Developers that want to get their foot in the door with no experience?
Just something to think about as I'm seeing a fall in android which is very disappointing, I mean after 5 previews and an offical release you really cannot fix the Android System bug thats using same % as screen? Pretty embarrassing on Google if you ask me.
Been android quite awhile it was doing great but they just cant get it together anymore?
MM Doze never worked? It works exactly as they intended it to; when the phone is not moving.

Go back to Apple you Apple scum!
On a serious note though, I disagree with pretty much everything you said.
Doze is working completely fine, and so is everything else.
There is no such "fall" in Android. As far as I know, pretty much everything is rising.

There is already a general Android discussion section.
This thread reminds me of a galaxy Black Hole!
Google's not perfect but they allow indie developers freedom. Steve Jobs wanted the ipad to be an extension of the user but then he had specific ideas for how that user should behave. Apple says we know whats best for you, while Google says "go ahead and get that tatoo. We might think its a poor decision but its your body!"
Ill stop rambling here. I like freedom and SOMETIMES that means things wont always go smooth.
Back to the topic--never had issues with doze either.

google sucks they treat their user base as a bunch of alpha testers
they never fix anything , they are a bunch of cheap money grubbers who will not spend money to hire people from the first world none of their developers can even be toilet trained how do you expect them to be able to be trained to develop software?
of course the low level 3rd world developers are not even nearly as bad at the higher ups who are supposed to be managing and designing
nothing they do makes any sense they are all a bunch of severely autistic retarded sperglords with zero real world social skills or experience
besides them leaving critical things broken for months to years like FRP and google maps navigation
they just are very poor at design in general and lack any common sense
everything they do is @SS backwards AF
most basic common sense features are not even included , whenever they do do something right they decide to make change for the sake of change and break it again

Please edit your post and remove the comment about Cancer and Aids. That line was completely uncalled for and extremely inappropriate. Also please edit out the cuss words you have in your post that you masked from the editor. It's against XDA policy as we have kids that come on here. If you want to cuss, please use the * symbol on your keyboard.
While I understand your strong feelings towards Google, may I ask why such strong feelings? Were you passed up on being hired by them? It's just that it's not every day you get to see someone post such strong words against a company that they merely purchased or didn't purchase products from. Seems like there's some personal stuff going on there.

they never fix anything , they are a bunch of cheap money grubbers who will not spend money to hire people from the first world none of their developers can even be toilet trained how do you expect them to be able to be trained to develop software?
of course the low level 3rd world developers are not even nearly as bad at the higher ups who are supposed to be managing and designing
nothing they do makes any sense they are all a bunch of severely autistic retarded sperglords with zero real world social skills or experience
besides them leaving critical things broken for months to years like FRP and google maps navigation
they just are very poor at design in general and lack any common sense
everything they do is @SS backwards AF
most basic common sense features are not even included , whenever they do do something right they decide to make change for the sake of change and break it again

Nothing like completely biased, unsubstantiated, blanket claims. You can easily like or dislike anything about Google or Android, but to just say they know nothing about design demonstrates your absolute ignorance on digital design or how it is accomplished.

probably never
people who can code have no common sense and people with common sense can't code
or it is just bad upper level management
i can give specific examples of glaringly obvious bad design mistakes ,but of course they will never be fixed
googles multi user account system implemented in lolipop is just awful
here is why
there is no way to hand off ownership account status to another user ,you have to wipe and factory restore the device, i found this out when setting up a tablet for a parent with my account and having to start over
but why? this makes no sense what so ever , all they had to do is just make an option to transfer ownership account status to another user account on the device, log in under primary owner account go to settings, select pass ownership status to another user select user, there done would that have been so hard?
also multi user relies on lock screen passwords instead of just prompting for the google user account password to switch between users on the device, forcing everyone using the device to use a lock screen password and to enter it every time the device goes to sleep, this is very annoying especially when using a tablet which the multi user account was ostensibly designed to be used for since typically you do not share a phone, it just makes no sense at all
also smart lock trusted devices is another mess
i figured i would just use my mi band to unlock the tablet then, but even when you set up a trusted device to use smartlock it just disables itself after "inactivity" so after few hour you have to reset it again ,no option to keep it the way you set it, turned on
it's just common sense things like this that get really annoying
also no inversion of volume rocker buttons when in landscape mode
little common sense things like this
a company with unlimited funds and unlimited resourced should not be making ridiculously obvious design mistakes like these
nor should they be leaving such major things broken for years like google maps navigation and FRP security

Doze is outstanding in Nougat. I got 5+ hours of SoT over a 38 hour period so yes, obviously, Nougat is total crap and Doze doesn't do anything...
^^^sarcasm^^^
...I do find it amazing that I can get endurance like that with no, as in zero, attempt to optimize battery drain (WiFi on, GPS on high, adaptive display on, BT on, bone stock, no root, etc.) while others are reporting problems. Regardless, all I can go by is that my 6P is not only just the best phone I ever had (last one was Note 5 that go worse with MM), it got even better with Nougat!

Wow. Generalize much?

Trump bans Huawei in the US

An executive order has been signed by Trump banning Huawei in the US...
Also Qualcomm (QCOM) may have to apply for US export licenses to continue supplying technology to Huawei.
https://edition.cnn.com/2019/05/15/tech/trump-executive-order-telecom-security/index.html
Why worry about Huawei when Google, facebook and the countries intelligence are already spying.
I think the problem lies with 5G, Huawei are trying the set up the infrastructure for 5G across Asia, Europe and the US amongst over areas. Which means that they'll have a back door to almost everything connected to 5G.
5G will connect to everything, even LED lights in your home which basically gives them a 3D view of every area 5G covers. Whoever has access to it will know where you are nearly all the time.
The timing makes it obvious the steps against Huawei is derivative of the US trade war with China rather than concerns over spying.

I wonder if it makes sense to care about that. Huawei prices are dropping and people try to sell there used phones. A good moment to buy something like that.
Am I totally wrong in thinking that Trump will probably not stop xda developers from developing updates for Huawei phones? If so I do not care about Huaweis updates or wether they include Gapps
But sadly XDA is not able to develop updates for Huawei beacause of locked bootloader etc, so what you are trying to say is......?

I do not own a huawei phone (yet) and am still investigating about existing roms. Is there really no easy way to unlock bootloader for huawei devices in general? That would definitely stop me from buying huawei.
BTW: of you quote me I see your post faster

No there is no easy way, even no way at all at the moment.
I am quite relaxed at the moment, for existing phones there will still be support, future phones could be a HUGE problem. But to be honest, A LOT switch their phones after 2 years or even before, so most people will not be touched by this ban who are currently owning this awesome phone.
I don't think Huawei spies. Even if they did, are they the only big players who do it?
US already spies on their citizens and on the world - Edward Snowden told the world and now he's not allowed back into his country. Facebook also sells your data if you remember that Cambridge Analytica drama.
Do people just forget what's happened?
Agree, i am total sure that Apple has a file with my data and i didn´t even touched an apple device in my life
that doesn´t make spying good, but i also think huawei is not doing more/less than the rest

this is not my attitude towards phones. Mine is rather: use the device until warranty is over (or a bit earlier) then root and install a custom rom and use the phone until it is really dead. Unfortunately it seems like that did not take too long on my Asus Zenfone selfie ...
I also use phones quite long, but really a lot people get a new one every year or every two years by contract. The same people which are now selling their phones because of panic^^
if you plan on using custom rom/modification huawei is not suitable for you, it is just not possible. maybe the android ban will change something, but nobody can say that, you will have to wait to see what will happen.
Since no one else has said it on this thread let me be the first, Trump is an idiot, when he's gone the whole world will be better for it. He can't even honor D-day survivors without making it all about him, the ultimate draft dodger.

The future of Huawei?

It's concerning for us who just upgraded to the P30 Pro. I'm wondering if it's a bill pay upgrade would I be able to change my mind and go to the S10 plus now.

The world isn't work like this. Nobody enforced you to buy any Huawei devices.
If you want to make a complaint, then write to Google or to Donald Trump.
Have we sell the p30 pro?

The world does work like this ,it's consumer protection. Nobody forces you to buy a contract / bill item but by law you have cooling off periods and protection when the item isn't as described. We could argue that the item is no longer as described due to losing access to official Android updates and applications
Sent from my VOG-L09 using Tapatalk
Worst thing is, if we opt to sell, no one will buy it due to these restrictions. I shave 3 years on this contract... Talk about D's
Huawei unlocks its devices, we install play store services and carry on
So what…. Trump is working on the next big Economic Crisis for the US... Huawei will found a Solution and have his own Appstore
Greetings Raffi
I am concerned about the updates
Finally my p30 pro feels so snappy with 153 that made me excited about Android q and Updates then this comes along
And is it going to effect the other Chinese manufacturers like OnePlus oppo xiaomi or not, these are the only ones left to provide us with the latest best tech without the redeculas 1000$+ that's becoming normal even for LG
Stupid
I am worried about this too, it also makes me think that if this news changes soon something like this could happen in the future because of the issues regarding huawei and America and also the UK where i am stopping Huawei from creating the 5G networks.
I happened to request a return for my P30 Pro within the 14 days period, i got sent the bag to send it back in, and says i have 30 days from when i made that request, i am within them 30 days still, so not i am really wondering if i should just send this phone back and get an S10?
Apparently this happened to ZTE before however they were reinstated again and approved. So time will tells
I think I have made my mind up, I have always been with Samsung, i was really loving OneUI on my s8+ before i got the p30 pro, i only got it as i thought i'd give it a go assuming it can't be that different, i have posted many bugs and annoyances here since getting the p30 pro, some of which i have fixed, some i can't, the EMUI software is really bad and doesn't seem well developed at all.
I think i will get an s10+
I don't care. I believe that Huawei most likely have the capacity to do their own firmware now. They'll do their own firmware and run their own app store. They're big enough now that they'll be able to make it work. Will be nice to have an alternative third ecosystem in the phone world.
I guess it's good bye now to any future security patches. Don't think Huawei's own OS would a viable alternative either. It's new and it will definitely have a lot of issues with third party apps compatibility for example, syncing to wear os devices.
Anyways, it was stated that current phones are not effected by this so i guess the main issue for us now would be upcoming security patches and firmware update.
Reckon the best option would be to sell it off.

It will be like giving your phone admin access to china
Isn't android open source? The AOSP code for any future android OS will always be available. Huawei can always use androids open code into their devices for future security patches.
Google and 5 eyes are already spying on you. How come you don't care about that?
Huwaei phone will not recieve any android specifc code from Google , no more secutity updates , no more Google Play, no more APIs ,,,
Everthing is just blocked by US /Google now ,,
Huwaei journey in androd ends here as they will only have Aosp access which is plain deadland now days as most of the apis have migrated to Google play services

Then compare it as designed. Log in. Otherwise you're not doing the factory rom justice.
if by justice you mean features that require internet and my personal information and habits, those are features that i dont need or will ever use.
if you are talking general speed and battery usage and functioning with the apps i use the most, then logging into google on my phone is not needed.
the phone might have the power to calculate the need parameters to build a space ship and put a man on mars, but using that power to smooth out my crows feet, socialize online looking for 5000 likes and 2 millions followers , is not a improvement in tech use.

If you know what you're doing you can log in with a Google account and not give out all the information you mentioned. There are a lot of privacy concerns these days all you need to do is some research. I'm sure you can figure something out that will accomplish your goals. Good luck.
Try freezing Google systems and Play services.
There are different apps that can do this, but you will need root.

I think he means not cutting off your nose to spite your face. Google credentials are needed for Play Store, like for keeping Carrier Services and whatnot updated. It's possible to push back against data harvesters while using stock Android, especially with root access. But it sounds like you'd rather take your concerns to the next level with something like CalyxOS and a Play Store alternative.
the only thing i dont want is to log into anything to use what i paid for.

So, you don't want the Google experience yet you bought a Google-branded phone? Just a bit of an oxymoron there. Seriously, while I could ask why you bought a Google phone if you don't intend to use Google services, it would be a pointless waste of time and energy.
Install a custom ROM that doesn't use Google services and don't look back. Just don't complain when you can't take advantage of a Google-exclusive feature as a result.

You do realize that as a society we are all walking around with computers thousands of time faster than we had sitting on our desks 20 years ago. That have dozens of sensors, connected to wireless networks, that can cover nearly every inch of the surface of the planet. What you're worried about is what we (the collective nerds/geeks/privacy advocates) were screaming at the top of our lungs back in the 90s...before it was too late.

It wasn't productive from the first post. It simply is an excuse for him to rant and rave about how Google is a data whore and all that. I can understand that, as I once was like him. Perhaps I am in the wrong here for being so blasé over Google's data collection, but I stopped worrying years ago about it. I figured the benefits outweighed the liabilities.
It's rather entitled to expect to have all the benefits of a smartphone while having none of the liabilities. I think if I were truly that worried about data collection to rant about it in a public forum I wouldn't be using a phone at all. After all, every phone made today, from the most expensive smartphone to the cheapest dumbphone, has sensors in it that can track you, even when the phone is off.
To the OP, TANSTAAFL.
