Sony Album app ignoring .nomedia - Sony Xperia XZ1 Questions & Answers

I have recently become very frustrated with the Sony Album app. I simply want to prevent my whatsapp images to appear in the Sony Album app.
A while back on my Z3 and XZ I was able to add a .nomedia file on both the Whatsapp folder on the Internal storage and SD card storage and it seemed to be working. Ever since I got my XZ1 no matter whether a .nomedia file is present in the images/video folder, it still shows pictures in the Sony Album app.
Is anyone else experiencing the same issue? I got use to the Sony Album app and would hate to replace it with something else.
Regards

Hi,
I have also tried the nomedia without success...
Waiting for a workaround too.

[Q] .nomedia or dot doesn't work in the gallery

Does anyone a the solution to the problem where the gallery just indexes nearly everything it finds? i've placed .nomedia files in folders, i've tried putting a dot in front of the folders (which did make them 'invisible' for file explorer) which also worked for a couple of days, but suddenly gallery started to index even these .name folders.
Does anyone know how to fix this? it's pretty stupid that there is no include/exclude folder option or anything.
Use quickpic and disable the gallery. That's what I did.
You can also install audio manager and do it that way.
Theres only one way that works.

This is only for music and the indexing of every single bit of album art that the Gallery Pics up, but in most casesthat's the biggest annoyance:
I have tried Gallery Replacements like QuickPic, and they are decent, but I want things to work the way I want them, not to just replace them with an alternative. Hers the only way that I know that works:
You need to have only one Album Cover picture per folder (assuming all your music is in folders) Name it albumart.jpg all lowercase; AlbumArt.jpg will not work (he says after naming DOZENS that way, LOL! It is time consuming, but only needs to be done once, preferably on the PC, where a major file cleanup/renaming operation goes a little faster.
Then just use Cover Art Downloader from the market for all future adds to your music files (it creates the correct filename) and you are set.
This is a known ICS bug. It has been submitted to google for fixing. Sorry I don't have the link to the bug report but a google search should work to find it.
It happens when the media scanner scans a folder prior to a .nomedia file being created. Once media scanner determines there is media in a folder it will forever ignore the .nomedia file.
A fix is to add the .nomedia files to whatever folders you don't want scanned then clear data for the media scanner (and possibly gallery too, although I think a reboot will remove the extra thumbnails).
I'm not sure how your media scanner is scanning your .folders, but whatever. Hopefully clearing media storage will fix that too.
I use the .nomedia trick & it seems to work. Maybe I placed them before the media scanner indexed them?
For example the app Bookworm makes thumbs of all the book covers - and I have 250 - and use this trick to stop them from showing up.
The .nomedia file has to be the first file in a folder in order to ignore media there. If files are already indexed, just rename such folders forth and back (opening the Gallery in the middle) and there you go.
You can use the Nomedia application for creating easily the .nomedia

[Q] [Solved] Weird problems with files on external sd

I am new to Samsung, coming from HTC Desire. And got into bizarre already )
A couple of days ago noticed a strange problem with photos in galery unreadable, appearing to be corrupt (all of them on external sd, internal sd photos are displayed properly). Then today happened that Music app couldn't play music files on external SD.
Read countless of similar issues on the internet, with lots of people blaming on the sd card. However, I found that it is not the case.
Put into a SD card reader and plug into PC, the files on SD card are all ok.
Put back card into phone and investigated further. First I thought maybe it's a problem with SD card reader in the phone. BUT! Noticed files are perfectly visible in ES File Explorer, and even display correctly when using Gallery App to open them from ES file explorer. But if Gallery is opened first, it cannot display files.
I'm sure somebody else happened the same, since the internet is full with such reports regarding Galaxy devices (even S1 and Note alike), but anyone identified the sorce of the problem and eventually solved it? I would be very much interested.

Try to run Rescan Media app from Play store.
Maybe your media scanner service does not work properly and needs to refresh the list of media files on your sd card.
Good luck !
rescan is done automatically every reboot. doesn't help. thanx anyway.
investigated further and found out that the files are not corrupt, but the libraries of Music app and Gallery app created duplicated empty files (in fact 2 fake entries in library for every valid file on the card). Duplicate files don't exist physically on SD card, only in libraries of the two applications.
Already tried formatting cache and dalvik cache, but to no avail...
ICS 4.0.4 Orange Romania (BVLPH) stock ROM.
Later EDIT: This was an easy one. Unmounted SD Card and open Gallery app and Music app. Then re-mount SD Card, both apps will refresh libraries, wait a while for media scan in the background and voila: duplicate files disappear, everything is in god order.
I had a similar problem where both gallery and music files were duplicated, but the duplicates were unreadable.
My solution was Settings -> Applications -> All -> Media Storage -> Clear Data.
This forced a refresh and everything turned normal again.
Slightly annoying that the media scan data is stored under a separate application and not within the data of the gallery or music player applications, but once I discovered this it was an easy fix.

Download ES file manager and go to SD card >Whatsapp >images then create a file with this name ".nomedia" and done, remember this file will prevent all the content from that folder to appear in gallery and If you no longer want to hide Whatsapp files erase this nomedia file (it will be hidden so you should mark the see hidden files button in the left menu of the app)

Dont know about that see if it is in another folder and do the same
Add a .nomedia file in the Whatsapp folder to stop making sony media apps detecting stuff there. If you can't find a .nomedia file on your device, just google it and download one

[Q] Album not showing all of the pics

Hi there,
first, I'm a new xda forum user. I've been using linux on desktops for over 10 years, so linux is familiar to me. But this Xperia Z2 is my first smart phone ever, had it 6 months now. The phone is with latest firmware, rooted with instructions found on this forum. Thats enough with introductions.
The problem: I had my internal storage space nearly filled up, the phone suggested to move stuff to sd card. I was stupid enough to do so, I let the phone move my pictures to sd card. Shortly after that the sd card failed. I used linux programs and a card reader to salvage the pictures from the card. I copied them back to internal storage, using File Commander. Now the pictures don't show up in the Album anymore. Which came first, not showing in the Album after moving files to sdcard or not showing because the card failed? I don't know, because the card failed before I used Album next time... Either I copied them in the wrong directory or I am missing something I should have also done. They have done a marvelous job in obfuscating the directory structure from "normal" linux system...
After I copied the pics back to internal storage, I got the placeholders showing in Album, in place of thumbnails... and clicking the placeholders I get a full screen placeholder pic. And the videos taken previously with some other phone or Z2, those get a different placeholder (kind of Play button), clicking them I get a "Cannot play video" message. All these pics/videos are viewable with PC.
Now, the questions:
What is the right directory where I should copy the previously taken pictures?
Does the Album create thumbnails again automatically, where should those be located?
How does the Album decide the timeline of the pics? Exif, file creation time, some other method?
Can I make a symbolic link to have that picture directory to hold it content on the sdcard?
Settings>Apps>all>Media Storage>Clear Data/Clear Cache
once you have wiped the data of this package it should start Fully Indexing your Storage Devices

the Album will scan all storage when u open it but always it s not problem with Album app
some picture files cannot be scanned by any media app. (just by file managers)
for example u may use 3rd party camera app and its photo not appear on Album so it s not the album problem u should ask that developer to set MediaScan on her app files.
:good:

Vast majority of the pics are taken with this phone. Even they don't show up more than as a placeholder pic. Every pic/video showed OK before these events I wrote in the opening post.

They are corrupted somehow, again. I'll just have to ditch the pics and see if new pics show up as they should.

My phone doesn't see a lot of the media on it. (not a .nomdeia issue)

Ok, so I've been trying to sort this issue out for almost half a year now.
All of a sudden my phone just stopped being able to 'see' all the current media on it, I initially noticed this because my ringtone changed back to a standard one, when I checked the gallery it was empty.
At first I thought it was a .nomedia file hiding everything but I couldn't find any, and when I took new photos they appeared in the gallery as if everything before them had just been deleted.
I installed a different gallery app that had the option to "view hidden files" and there it all was, but the thing that puzzled me was that the new photos and videos were in the same folders as the old ones.
Even weirder anything I downloaded couldn't be seen, literally the only media the phone would see is media it created ITSELF (photos, videos, sound recordings and screenshots).
I became curious and checked the files on the PC and the main difference was that many of the media details like photo dimensions and video duration were missing on all the old non-visible media while it was present on all the new media.
I copied a few photos and videos over to the PC, let it add it's own info to the files, checked them to make sure dimensions and durations were all there, then copied them back to the phone to see if they would show up and all the information disappeared! Which explains why I can't see new files downloaded from the internet ect.
List of things I've tried:
- .nomedia files
- force stop/delete cache of gallery
- force stop/delete cache of media storage
- wipe phone cache from boot menu
- repopulate/rescan for media using a large number of app including fx, ex file explorer, media re.scan ect ect
- backed up all media onto PC and deleted from phone, then replaced from back-up
I'm honestly at a complete loss, does anyone know what could be causing this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Do you have any app locker/privacy locker apps installed?
Thanks for the reply, I had a look through and wasn't able to find anything, I never knowingly installed an app like that.
There is the standard 'private' setting on the phone but turning it on or off makes no difference.

If you know the folder where they are all saved the just check the name because maybe there can be a dot(.) Before the folder name thus making it hidden
If yes, then just rename it without the dot and your work will be done
It is also possible that the properties of the folder maybe somehow changed thus in that case, connect your device to pc and right click on the folder and goto properties. If you see 'read only' , 'hidden' etc.. Then goto advance settings and change the properties to 'full control'
Hope this helps
