[Q] T-Mobile Revvl Plus & Alcatel apps - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can somebody tell me if the T-Mobile Revvl Plus (made by Alcatel) uses Alcatel's first-party Play Store apps? It's hard to find much information about this phone without having it in hand.

I believe the Revvl Plus+ is made by Coolpad ... unless 2 separate manufacturers are doing the deed.
My daughter's phone comes up as Coolpad (Yulong) with online model searches and within listed Google devices attached to her account.
All gleaned information after trying to sync her device to her computer in order to transfer files. The built in software that's provided (the pop up D\: driver-setup - actual name forgotten) once phone is plugged into USB is a little convoluted.
Image transfer worked fine without any software installation but the MTP (media files) was a bugger to setup in order to view within Windows Explorer. If anyone else has this issue ... best way I found to navigate it was to install from the popup (which just placed the needed software into a directory), open device manager, click on whatever the device is listed as (composite or android device - I forget) then update driver from the properties tab, search computer for driver, direct it to the folders installed from the D:\ popup. Do the same for android (adb) and composite device listed within device manager. Works like it should now. I had first tried to update drivers directly from the D:\ setup but that's strictly for installation purposes. Just install from that location then remember where you installed it to (the default is C:\Program Files (x86)\yulong).
Well ... if there wasn't any support information for this creeton device before ... there is now.

Thanks for your reply. I guess I misunderstood who made this phone. I thought it was Alcatel but apparently not! Thanks for that correction.

New to Windows Mobile

Let's pretend I'm new to windows mobile. (I am). Can anyone tell me HOW I get to these HKEY directories that everything is edited in. If anyone could give me a step-by-step instruction on how to install or modify anything at all in the phone, I would greatly appreciate it.
Please start the steps right after the 'Turn on phone' step, as I am fairly confident I have that under control. Every time I've asked this question on other forums I just get links to different forums with no helpful information below a certain level of expertise. I have never coded or done anything other than drag and drop folders, etc so a dumbed down version of how to start and I can learn from there. Anything! PLEASE!!! I hate having this amazing machine and not being able to utilize it.

First you need to install a registry editor. The two most used are PHM (free http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/) or Resco Explorer (paid http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/). I prefer Resco, but everyone has their own pref.
And installation, you fire it up and simply navigate it to your registry. Pretty straightforward.
I downloaded the free one but it isn't showing up in my phone. I navigated to its folder on my pc and everything seems to be zipped. when I unzip the file extensions are *.001 and I can't open or access them. am I doing something wrong ?
also, if anyone can explain to me how to install .net framework ?

i assume you need the new 3.5 .net compact framework.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...49-3c6b-42f1-9fd9-0041345b3385&displaylang=en
You simply download and install the file on your computer (not your mobile device). This file will install the framework on your computer and will activate the add/remove programs on the sync center, so the next time you connect your touch pro it will ask to install the program. Then you just follow any instructions displayed on your touch pro for final installation and you're set to go!
here's on .Net http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=470
It has an extra app to choose a default .Net.
There's also a Tips and Tricks section and a walk through for TouchFlo3D at fuzemobility.com that you may want to try.
I can relate to this problem.

I have a Alltel HTC Touch Pro. The software that came with it does not work with Vista. I googled active sync for Vista, I got links to Windows Mobile Device Center. I installed that onto my desktop. It syncs my phone to my desktop, but only shows my device memory and the storage card. I have installed downloaded and installed net.frame. When I downloaded Advanced Config Tool and draged and drop (also copied & pasted) into the device memory and tried to click the cab. file it only shows that it will go to the c: drive on my desktop. I do not see anything showing for the windows on my device. Hopefully someone can post some useful infomation about this. Yes I did use search, that lead me here. There are lots of complete noobs. Before we can add useful information for others. ( like showing off the really cool function of these new phones we have to be able to use them ourselves. Thanks for any help.
Here's some tips that might help you:
When plugging your Touch Pro into your PC via USB, you should be prompted on the Touch Pro whether you want to connect as "ActiveSync" or "Disk Drive". You should click "ActiveSync" for installing applications.
If you are using your desktop PC and download an application for your Touch Pro, it will typically be .exe or .cab. The .exe files are intended to run on your desktop PC first, and will then trigger an installation to your Touch Pro through ActiveSync (Windows XP) or Windows Mobile Device Center (Windows Vista).
If the file is a .cab, it is intended to run on your Touch Pro directly and will install the program. To move a .cab to your Touch Pro, you use the explore feature in ActiveSync (or similar feature in Mobile Device Center), and drag and drop. (Alternatively, you can download .cab files directly onto your phone from the source website using the Opera web browser). Once the .cab is on your Touch Pro, you use the file explorer program on your phone to naviagte to the file and then execute it.
When you install programs onto your TouchPro, a dialogue appears on the phone to walk you through the installation. To save your phone's shared memory, you can install programs to your memory card. Unfortunately, some applications work best when installed onto the phone versus installing them onto the memory card.
Hope that helps
Thank you very much for your reply. I'll give this another try. I had the Alltel HTV Touch Flo awhile back and was running XP on the desktop. If I remember correctly, I saw my device in the tree layout with the software running XP. I gave the Touch Flo to a family member and got a BlackBerry Curve. Wanted to go back to a windows platform for the versitilty of programs. I know everything has a learning curve to it. With lots of reading and study, trial and error, and help from generous people here. Noobs like myself can get a lot more use and enjoyment from their devices. Each new version that comes out is getting faster, more powerful, and has more features. Others see these things that we have and want one. It would be helpful if we could help them to see all the possibilities that are there. The I Phone gets a lot of attention with commercials and has opened up for new apps being developed. There are as many, if not more apps for widows. We just have to learn to implement them with our device. I know I did not start this thread, but others can see the original posters title and understand their, and my question. Thanks again to the reply, and to anyone else who comes up with more help for the noobs.

[Q] TizzBird F10 media player

Hey all XDA users.
I hope you can help me out!
I am starting to develop my own custyom roms. I am a noob on this, but day by day, I get more aquainted with the Android system.
I found a new challenge. I got myself a TizzBird F10 "Smart TV box". It is an Android media player with no space for a harddrive.
TizzBird Web Site
OTA Update ZIP file (unpack and rename to zip or gz
It has only 4 USB host slots, a SD card slot, 10/100 wired nic. I succesfully connected my Wireless N adapter from my popcorn hour.
The android system is 2.3.3 (for now) but it is upgradeable to 2.3.5 using OTA firmware.
My first goal is to try to get root access.
The thing does not have an USB slave connection, so i can't get ADB access. Is there any way to get root access another way? Maybe through ADB over TCP?
Or before I try to brick my device... is it possible to modify the OTA update? I downloaded the 2.3.5 OTA update from their website, and I can see the android structure within the ROM using winrar or 7zip.
Maybe it is possible to zergRush the system from within? Have SuperUser added to the OTA? Busybox etc.
Sure, I can just "copy" those APKs and tools into the .gz file, but would it help when I flash that modified file?
My ultimate goal is to get my google account working so I can get access to Google Music, since the device has not been licensed to use the Android market...
Thanks in advance or ideas you may have.
Update:
For now I have installed the following.
Android Market
GMail
Google Services Framework
Google Music
All works well, exept for acually playing the google music. It loads the albums, but hangs at pressing "play".
I use poweramp as my musicplayer,it's the best there is, on my F30,
Could I ask where you bought it ?
Did you just use an adapter converter for north american power plugs ?
I found this link to buy it:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Valueplus-T...ultDomain_0&hash=item3a706e8b4b#ht_8980wt_905
But it is clearly written;
All of our products are customized for Korean electric environment.
In Korea, we use 220 Voltage and Type C plug.
Some products has a adapter and in that case, they support Free Voltage and Type C plug.
Please pay attention to this point.
I'm in Canada.
Thanks.
I'm interested in the OS of the TizzBird.
The one on the F30 and the new N1 stick.
It's a beautiful UI/UX which would go great on Tablets, especially when connected to a large TV.
If you can provide the Launcher and other Apps from it, would sweet.

[Q] How to unlock the Chinese Huawei Ascend Glory+ [T8950]

Hi,
I first tried the method below:
Is someone trying to develop a Custom ROM for the Huawei Ascend G600 (U8950D)?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1943003
But the phones are not just different band versions, as mentioned in post 58 of the thread above. The T8950 is not kernal compatible with the U8950D:
http://www.jetdroid.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=106&t=8383
Indeed, the T8950 is equipped with MTK6517 dual-core processor, the MT6517 and MT6577 are the same, A9 architecture 40nm processor, clock ed speed is 1.0Ghz.
http://defendgun.com/2013/01/22/mobile-customized-huawei-glory-t8950-listed-price-at-261/
I don't pretend to have any knowledge about rooting phones, I just was able to find the correct information on the web. I spend two weeks figuring this out. So I hope I can save somebody else his time with this information.
this is how I did it.
UNLOCKING THE BOOTLOADER
--------------------------------------------------
the bootloader of the T8950 is not locked, so it does not need to be unlocked. Allight, step one done!
INSTALLING THE CMW CUSTOM RECOVERY TOOL
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The T8950 does indeed not have a fastboot mode. the CWM custom recovery can be installed by flashing the ROM using the Flash tool of Mediatek
tutorial: http://bm-smartphone-reviews.blogspot.com/2012/05/mt6575-flashing-tutorial.htmlthe correct files to use in the tutorial can be found here:
- SP_Flash_Tool_exe_v3.1224.01 --> http://www.mediafire.com/?c8lr368ceaqk7tv
- MediaTek DA USB VCOM drivers --> http://www.mediafire.com/?h0ytkyagj0kf89u
if all went well, you should have a different recovery screen now.
ROOTING
-----------
Tutorial: http://bm-smartphone-reviews.blogspot.com/2012/02/complete-guide-to-clockworkmod-recovery.html
The fileto be used is:
- RootT8950.zip --> http://www.mediafire.com/?je47wz2ozjr7oth
After the update is finished, reboot . Now, you should see Superuser in your Huawei T8950 app list. You can double check if you have root, using the "got root?" app.-->https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.island51.gotroot
INSTALLING THE GOOGLE SERVICES
----------------------------------------------------------
Since the the CWM custom recovery tool is installed now and the phone is rooted, it's very simple to add the google services to the phone. I used the GAPPS of Cyanogen. You can find them on many places, e.g.
http://www.needrom.com/mobile/gapps-cyanogen/
choose the right version, most likely your T8950 will have android ICS 4.0.4
istallation is the same as installing the rooting ROM

Hey TeTTiweTTi!
I can not say how glad I am that you wrote this tutorial. It seems that this is actually the only tutorial on how to truly unlock the T8950 (at least for non russian-speakers )
Still, I'd have some questions:
How do you install the VCOM driver? I downloaded it, but I can only find .inf files.. How do you install them?
Did you flash the whole ROM or just a part of it, as shown in the tutorial? And what exactly happens when you flash the ROM? Are you able to boot afterwards? It seems to just install CWM - right?
How do you apply the update RootT8950.zip?
Help would be appreciated a lot, since you seem to be the only one who knows how to properly do it
Oh and btw: did everything work for you after flashing the ROM? Or did you encounter any errors?
Cheers,
amannn
Hi, it was indeed not so easy to collect these bits and pieces together
here an answer to your questions
1.
The .inf files are the drivers. There are two ways to install the drivers. One way is to right click on the .inf file and choose "Install". The other way is to start the process with SP Flash Tool and as soon as you plug in the phone a new device will be detected and you have the choice to install the drivers.
Also, it is very important to make sure that you click "Download" first before you connect the device. Actually there is a trick, below the sp flash tool, you will see something that says "USB". Click "Download" and wait for the "USB" to become "Searching". Once it is "searching" then connect the USB. SP-Flashtool should be able to capture it before it disconnects itself again.
2.
yes, you only flash a part of the ROM, so you don't need to have all the files in the SP Flash Tool. Only the ones mentioned in the tutorial. Your phone will boot normal, nothing will be changed yet. But now you will have the CWM custom recovery when you start up in recovery mode.
3.
the linked tutorial is quite clear. Let me know if you cannot reach the page or you encounter a problem.

Hey TeTTiweTTi!
Thank you very much again for your detailed explanation!
So i think I've installed CWM recovery successful. Therefore, I'm now working on the rooting part.
The RootT8950.zip file needs to be applied, using the "choose zip from sdcard" option from CWM recovery right? When I choose that option, I encounter the error "E:Can't mount /sdcard/". Also when I'm trying to create a backup, it says "Can't mount backup path.". So it seems that there is a problem with accessing the sdcard. I then tried the "mount /sdcard" option, but it also says "Error mounting /sdcard".
Did you have any problem like that? When my phone is booted up, there is no problem with accessing the sd card... Or is there a option how I can check if the sd card is inserted correctly? I guess it's internal and therefore impossible to even remove it..
Your help would be highly appreciated!
Many thanks in advance and best wishes,
amannn
EDIT: I was now able to upload the update with an external micro sd. Therefore everything works so far - thanks again

Hi sieger007,
It can be a little bit tricky to install the drivers, since it are .inf files only. But these are the driver files

This second way worked just fine for me.
You can find the drivers and tools also here
http://mt65xx-tools.4shared.com/
he password to login is bm-smartphone-reviews.blogspot.com.
But always make sure that you trust the sources of the ROM you download and know that it is meant for your phone. After flashing a wrong preloader, your phone will be completely dead (can't be powered on, it will not charge and won't be detected anymore by the computer) and there is no way to recover it.
In order to root you first need to install a custom recovery. In this case it is CWM.
hope this helps
still stuck in driver hell
thanks for your help . I had a previous Chinese MTK (MT6575 ARM A9 cortex ) phone , whose ADB drivers successfully installed when I installed the SDK .
Now this one is MTK6517 ARM A5 Cortex. and none of the methods ( #1 or #2 ) help, in those drivers being recognized.
By method #1 : Right click install - It maybe just copying the driver file to system folder and then on windows would auto detect it when the device is inserted -assuming there is a match .
Method # 2 : Uses the new h/w found dialogue . Not sure if invoking sp_tool is related anyways in invoking that dialogue . It shows up anyways - soon as you plug in the phone .
I could not get the driver files in with the blogspot password to be recognized . Kept giving me "specified location. does not contain info about your h/w msg"
I have the EXACT same problem with ALL drivers hunted on the net , that say MTK driver. Some files say MTK65xx some say MTK_USB_Driver etc.
the h/w ID's and instance IDs associated with the devices are attached .
USB\VID_1782&Pid_5d04&Rev_0229&MI_01
Now the driver.inf file did have one ray of hope with this mention ..wonder if that'd make it compatible with a modified inf file.
But I am lost about HOW to add the h/w ID info ( format and what specific data to add ) to the inf file -most data is of the form VID_eXXX something in that file ( see below quote )
MT6516 USB VCOM drivers\readme.txt
Code:
3. Customers can customize usb2ser_XXX.inf file.
There is a string in the file:
MTK6218 = "USB Modem Driver"
You can modify it for your product name, for example:
MTK6218 = "MY_PRODUCT Modem Driver"
The other perplexing thing is that there are 3 Devices that show up under XP device manager. I managed to get one of em installed as device "android phone" with driver "android ADB interface" from Google and can possibly manage to get ALL of em installed the same way since those device ID's are close ( the last '1' becomes 2 and 3 respectively ) in this
Code:
USB\VID_1782&Pid_5d04&Rev_0229&MI_01
After pushing all these device ID's as "android ADB interface" - and attempting to root- the android rooting s/w's will NOT work at the identification step , erring out with "ADP device not found "- conclusively indicating that those drivers probably did not work well and I ought to look around for better ones - something I am trying to address by this thread.
Lastly - sp_tool when you start it - it will ask for scatter file. The scatter file out there is for MTK6577 (vs my model 6517 ) . If I choose that file - it gives me a warning - yes it out - and click download - it will then just freeze doing nothing
after some more G-mining ( Google) - i found out that I have to stick my VID in that hardware ID's and create an adb_usb.ini file to get the device recognized. Will update on happened next

ADB driver issue
> adb_usb.ini needed oXXXX as device ID . Where XXXX is the ID that shows up on Device manager. This is detailed here
http://blog.fh-kaernten.at/wehr/?p=1182
after that there will be 2 yellow marks for the rest of the unknowns in device manager. for this you have to modify the .inf file to include the entire h/w ID strings. I guess that makes just about any driver get along with anyone unknown - so here I am not sure if showing them as the such h/w by changing the driver files - gives them the actual intended functionality or all it does it just makes the device manager look clean without yellow marks. Maybe someone could help expand the talk here
[
Code:
android_winusb.inf

%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_1782&PID_5D04&MI_03
So with that - I get 1 ADB interface and 3 devices show up under "com and LPT" - alright that completes the drivers
ROOTING
I found this Chinese rooting program Vroot . I still have'nt figured out what exactly it means but it looks like it DID root that sucker after all. I tested with one app - root checker - got an dialogue in Chinese , asking me whether to give or not and I think I said Y but that app still does not say I have root. Its probably the apps thats at fault because I can get Linked2SD do ALL the stuff it would be doing running as root - .e.g force move programs to SD to free up space etc.
If someone out there can make English out of that and tell me if its mine to keep or leased out ( trial ) - that'd be damn nice !!!

3G not accessible
Hi again,
so I've been struggling with another issue.
Somehow my T8950 isn't capable of connecting to the 3G network of my carrier. When I search for networks, only the 2G networks are being found.
Does anybody have a clue why that is and how to solve that problem? My carrier is from Austria and is called "tele.ring" which is operated by T-Mobile.
I'd really appreciate your help, since 2G is reaaally slow for data connections
EDIT: I just tried allowing my phone only to connect to 3G networks by using the Network app from Philipp Mangelow (which shows the same menu as if you dial *#*#4636#*#* as i just found out). This results into no 3G networks being found at all.. I thought maybe the problem occurs because I'm always connected in roaming mode. As I bought the phone in China, it seems to believe that i need to be in roaming mode to connect to my local carrier. However, I have a local SIM-card, so this is somewhat weird..
EDIT 2: So after some googling I've found out that China has the TD-SCDMA radio interface for 3G (at least China Mobile, and that's from where I've bought the phone), but in europe it's W-CDMA.. Remains the question how to change that (if possible at all)..
EDIT 3: So I've wrote an email to Huawei about the issue, and that's the reply:
Sorry that T8950 doesn’t support the W-CDMA mode.
Below please kindly check the frequence band of T8950 for your reference.
• GSM/EDGE:900/1800/1900MHz
• TD-SCDMA:A frequency(2010-2025MHz)/F frequency(1880-1920MHz)
So that means that there is nothing i can do about it?
Thanks and all the best,

No, unfortunatly not. this is not a software setting, but a different hardware chip. my t8950 also does not support 3G in Belgium

[Q] Android GA10H stuck with DEMO across screen - Reply with a SOLUTION!

This is Malware and a fix is available - this app must run on windows - I have "AllWinnerDemoFix-v0.61.7z" from unknown site.
I had the same problem and I got it from the Google Play Store...
read this very carefully...take out words dot, slash, and question mark - put in dot, a slash and a question mark after the slash...
www-dot-mediafire-dot-com-forward-slash-questionmark-vnilkhruda1mktv
the file is a 7z.
Also YOU MUST HAVE THE CORRECT Android Debug Bridge DRIVERS INSTALLED ON YOUR SYSTEM TO ACCESS THE ADROID TO START WITH . . . Find the Correct drivers! This is very difficult...most ADB DRIVERS DO NOT WORK FOR THIS TABLET.
I have no Idea, now, where I got these drivers from, but they DO Work for me. Email me without solicitation and I will email them to you.
File names:

Found a way !!!
Hi there,
I managed to successfully root my Mi Box 3 w firmware 1.3.114 . Thought I'd share
Tools needed:
- Male to Micro USB Female Converter Connector
- USB stick
Software needed:
- Mi image 1.3.106:
yadi.sk/d/Yvr1jYflm6GZR or
dropbox.com/s/72x76khqjlpekap/MiBOX3_jurassicpark_gitv_1.3.106.386.zip
- Kingo root for windows
kingoapp dot com
First you will need to downgrade the firmware to version 1.3.106.
Extract the contents of the downloaded zip file to a formatted usb tick (Fat32).
(Should be two files: xiaomi_update and update.zip)
Put the stick in your Mi Box and boot in recovery: unplug power, press and hold back + ok button ( or Home and Menu while rebooting ) while plugging the power back in. The remote should be nearby and facing the box. Do not let go of the buttons until it booted in recovery. the flashing should start and finish automatically.
After first boot make sure you disable Intelligent Update.
Second step is to root your box with Kingo.
Enable USB/ADB debugging and reboot (it's right there in the menu under security settings).
Install Kingo root on your pc or laptop and connect your box using a micro usb charging cable. This is where you'll need the adapter. Start Kingo Root, follow instructions and choose 'Root again'.
This will take a minute... done!
Any question let me know I will be glad to help .

It works great, the hardware is a beast! The only important issue I encountered so far is that sometimes it exits the video player, some other times just pauses the playback on Netflix, every 10 minutes or so. On You Tube it exits fullscreen mode, which can be quite annoying. The only solution I could find is this:
- In Settings (not the Chinese app, but the one that comes inside Shafa Market, or even better, make a google search for "startSettings.apk", download it , then install it on your Mi Box, this way you´ll no longer need Shafa Market), go to About the Phone section, and click repeatedly on the Build Version, till you are granted Developer rights.
- Back to Options, go to Developer Options, and change the number of background processes from Standard to None. You´ll have to repeat this last step every time the box reboots, but not after sleep/wake.
Done.
How did you install Google Services and does Play Store work ?

I suppose you already have a bluetooth/wifi/usb keyboard/air mouse at hand, and switched to English by now, if not, please refer to this post:
http://www.cnx-software.com/2016/04/12/how-to-change-language-to-english-and-install-apps-remotely-on-xiaomi-mi-box-3-enhanced/
I skipped Shafa Market, I downloaded instead startSettings.apk from here:
https://www.google.es/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0ahUKEwjb6Ir4pcjNAhUCNhoKHaj6BdcQFgghMAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fdrive.google.com%2Ffolderview%3Fid%3D0B16bkj0QSkYnfjc1YXQ1YU1sSGVGOHZqY3FjWUNabUVJd1dSTFpSb1BZbnU4cVZQMi1hMUk%26usp%3Dsharing&usg=AFQjCNE5hETwCJgxaa0KE0MtCkzU_tJF-w&sig2=Xk-SKY_nzqTE7aLmkhevZg
Copy it on a pendrive (you might want to copy the other apk-s for the next step, as well), then install it by inserting it in either USB port. You´ll be prompted to allow installation from unknown sources, click yes 允许. It´s all you need to have on your mi box for tweaking, like changing the language, instead of shafa market. Once opened, scroll down to the globe icon, and change it to English.
Then, follow really carefully this step-by-step guide, it´s a bit cumbersome, but it definitely works:
http://flying8pus.blogspot.com.es/
A few pointers, though:
1 - When rooting the device (the same thing here, use a pendrive, download all the apk-s you need on it, and install them from there), be patient, in some cases people had to wait a whole night for the 100% and the victor´s cup to show up. Check it out, and if it´s not done after 10-15 minutes, you´re out of luck, you might as well just go about your day, it will be over at some point. Make sure that in the mi box menu the sleep mode is disabled (set it from 30 minutes, I think, to Never), and don´t touch it, don´t open any apps, let 360Permroot do its magic.
2 - After installing Play Store DON´T OPEN IT! Install afterwards You Tube, then open this one. You´ll be prompted then to download Google Web Services (or something like that) in order to function properly. If you open Play Store before You Tube, you´ll never be prompted, and it will not work, at least that´s what I´ve been told, and I trust the guy (my brother).
Unfortunately, very few apps are recognised by Play Store as compatible with the device (luckily mx player is one of them), but you need it anyway, otherwise some Google services might not work. What I use instead for ease of use is uptodown app market, not even close as abundant as Play Store, but I get by. Once you install an app from there, it will update as soon as a newer version is available, and it´s not as picky as Play Store in terms of compatibility.
Take your time and good luck.

Can you verify the model number on your box? Mdz-16-aa or mdz-16-ab? I did a bunch of research into rooting this box months ago and no one had found a way. I'm disappointed in the mdz-16-ab ever since I bought it. It has become more of a paper weight to me.
