Redmi 5 Plus Fake Global Rom Issue - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 / 5 Plus Questions & Answers

I bought Redmi 5 plus last month..
It was with Nougat 7.1.2 in the form of Miui 9.2.0.2..
I checked in official Udater app and it shows no update available.. But in Xiaomi Forum I found a official update to Miui 9.2.6..
Some users told that I m using a fake Miui Rom which was preinstalled in my phone..Anyone has any idea about it..?
One more thing, In Developer option I found my bootloader is unlocked but OEM Unlocking option is not available (Follow the arrow marks in last Screenshot).. A Unlocked sign also appears when I restart my phone..Now my question is my bootloader is locked or unlocked..?
Thanks.

Hey.
It looks like your phone is unlocked. If you have adb Enabled on your phone then you can easily just flash TWRP and a custom rom. Such as xiaomi.eu.
Not too sure if you need mi unlock tool.

Same thing with mine. I suggest you flash a custom Rom like Xiaomi EU or go with the official Firmware on the Mi site.
If you go with the custom roms, you'll need only the TWRP via ADB.
If you'd go with the official, there is an instruction on how to on the site, but they suggest you use the MiFlash tool.

It seems like the seller has already unlocked your bootloader in advance. The problem with this though is that it's going to be a pain when your bootloader will be locked as it is already bound to another device. If you want to go back to stock, I advise flashing the fastboot files using Xiaomi ADB instead of using the MiFlash tool as MiFlash could relock your bootloader.

Any successful solution yet? I have exactly the same situation as the problem described here. I also have a Redmi 5 Plus. MIUI 9.2.0.2. Showing as "unlocked" under Developer options but if checked through fastboot oem device-info, "device unlocked: false"; "devise critical unlocked: false".

Per MI forum: Mi Unlock often fails despite having bootloader unlock permission.

I see tons of people complaining that the Mi Unlock fails at 50%. I had that too, but solved it (somewhat) after downloading and using a newer version of the Mi Unlock (version 2.3).
Although I get past the 50% mark, the Mi Unlock program fails after verifying phone. [I tried to put a picture of the result below but XDA bars me from this practice until after I have submitted 10 posts.] Since XDA bans me from posting a picture of the result, I will try to verbally illustrate:
The Mi Unlock process runs the entire course - 100% - and then gives me green check mark and says, "Verified". The next step the Mi Unlock program takes is to unlock the bootloader. However it is at this step the process fails. Instead of unlocking, I get a message saying "Couldn't Unlock." Under those words is the following message, "After 72 hours of trying to unlock this device".
Anyone even know what that is supposed to mean? Is that just chinglish? Or better still, how can I get my device unlocked?
I SEE TONS OF PEOPLE WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM! Anyone have any idea what is going wrong? How do I deal with it? Am I to assume the message is suggesting we wait that particular number of hours before we can make the thing unlock the bootloader? Anyone? This IS a question that plagues many in the MIUI forum! And after going back roughly 70 pages into the forum, I see no solution; no answers! Just the same complaint over and over again and again.
I tried the unlocker a few times afterward, over the course of the day, with the same result. However curiously, there is one change to the message. It now says, "After 63 hours of trying to unlock this device". Is this suggesting I have to wait and try it in 63 hours?
Again, I see this same complaint time and time again on the MIUI forum for this phone. Anyone have any idea how to handle this dilemma?
One last question: How do I change out my MIUI ROM (currently MIUI 8.6.8.18 Beta) to a developer ROM? Ultimately I want to install a custom RR Rom or some other custom ROM. But MIUI 8.6.8.18 is android 5.0 LL; and the new Custom ROMs available are using android 7.0. My understanding is I need at least an MIUI Dev Rom with android 6.0 MM on the phone before it will let me leap over to some other Custom ROM with android 7.0. [I tried it. And though everything worked perfectly, (got my device rooted, and installed ZCX TWRP, etc.), it just bootlooped after flashing in TWRP. I tried it with several Custom ROMs - Always with the same bootloop. After exhaustive reading in web forums, the suggestion out there seems to be that I have to go back and install a DEV Rom with android 6.0 MM; then free the bootloader again, reinstall SuperSU (or similar), and then TWRP, etc. , and finally I will be able to Flash to one of the new Custom Rom's that uses Android 7.0.]
With this objective in mind, I downloaded the Dev Rom to my phone (7.7.20 - which is the latest for this phone). However, the UPDATER app on the phone won't update from the MIUI 8.6.8.18 Beta to the MIUI 7.7.20 Global Dev Rom. I select it in the updater by browsing over to it, then click "OK", but nothing happens. Instead of installing the MIUI 7.7 Dev Rom, the app just says that there are no updates...
Any ideas? Thanks
Unlock fails
Hi,
did you find a solution to your unlock problem. I have exactly the same problem and found only lots of solution for other problem with unlock.
Oliver
Now the process of unlocking bootloader is quick.
I deleted my MI account & created a new one. So, applied for permissions again & unlocked in 5 mins after approval.

Please can you provide the exact steps you have taken?
IMHO this would help users like me who did follow the instructions to unlock the bootloader and run into this problem.
I did run into the problem, "After 72 hours of trying to unlock this device", even that I followed the instructions:
Create a Mi acoount (with my phone nr.)
Apply for unlocking, with giving reason
wait for confirmation sms
download unlocking tool
on the phone: activate dev options, switch on usb debugging, OEM unlocking and bind phone to Mi account in "Mi Unlock Status"
reboot phone in fastboot mode
run Mi Unlock prog on PC and log in
when prompted connect phone
The Mi unlocking tool stopped after verifying (green hock) at "Unlocking" with a red cross and show then "After 72 hours of trying to unlock this device".
I do not see where I went wrong...
IMHO this is a f***ed up process of unlocking the bootloader and Xiaomi should work on this.
I haven't read the post, but you don't need to unlock bootloader to root or flash custom roms

Hi,
As far as I know unfortunately if you want to install a custom rom you need to replace the Xiaomi recovery with a custom one, like twrp. In order to do that you need to unlock the bootloader first. Then you can flash the custom recovery with the command "fastboot flash recovery twrp-x.x.x-x-mido.img" for the Redmi Note 4 SD for example.

how? Any link to steps? I have currently resurrection remix 5.7.4 with OFFICIALLY unlocked bootloader, but it's useless because all new ROMs require new firmware and I don't have anymore access to my Xiaomi account which had granted bootloader permission, would like to move from marshmallow to Oreo, but that would require flashing me MIUI, relock bootloader and I will get stuck there and don't wanna apply anymore for official unlock, it's PITA

Gearbest Mi8 bootloader unlocked

Hi everyone
I've just upgrade to a Mi8 for a mi6, I've received mine today from Gearbest it came with the international ROM pre-installed. I then noticed the bootloader was already unlocked. I checked with the Mi unlock tool and it said it was.
I was able to install twrp and miui EU right away. Well happy with that as I didn't have to wait the 2 weeks to unlock.
The only issue now is I ordered the gold one but didn't know it was rose gold hahahaha. Just waiting for the case to turn up to hide the pink. Can't complain as it was on offer for £350 for the 128gb version.
Currently, every "global" Mi 8 being sold is a Chinese Mi 8 with multilang/globalrom.
By the way, do not lock the bootloader while a global rom is installed on a Chinese variant because Xiaomi made a system which bricks the phone in that case to prevent Chinese variants being resold worldwide.
You can even try GSI images out if you're up for it.
I'm using miui EU ROM where Google pay still works so won't be locking the bootloader with twrp. But cheers for the heads up.
I've not seen any other custom ROMs yet. I take it GSI are the new ROMs that keep the system bits and OS in different partitions?

Pretty much yeah.
You just do a factory reset and flash a GSI as a System Image through TWRP.
There are GSIs of all popular roms but the best one at least for me is RR ( it has the same edge gestures as in MIUI and a lot of other goodies ).
Of course, there will be small bugs like broken audio playback on Bluetooth headphones and automatic brightness.
But when you think about the fact that other devices have hardcore broken parts like camera and audio, one can't complain too much.
Oh yeah, Phh-treble feature roms support the notch. You can set the clock to left and toy with the lcd density ( I set it to 409 ) for the perfect layout of status bar items alongside the notch.
Could you point me in the right direction to the ROMs as I don't see anything under the Mi8 section.

You would probably need to reflash the official ROM using miflash by going into fastboot by holding down power and vol - once restored unlock bootloader and reflash twrp.
Or you could try going fastboot connected to the mi unlock tool and see what it does.

Thanks for your reply, it is impossible to flash because bootloader was locked by me. And it is impossible to unlock the bootloader, because the software asks Mi account to unlock bootloader, but there was no Mi account connected to the phone.
If it's locked you should still get to fastboot to use miflash to install the genuine rom. If that doesn't work get yourself a edl cable for recovery

Gearbest is offering an "international version" and also a "global version".
I am affraid one of these will have an unlocked boatloader.

Global Version comes with an official stable global rom and a locked bootloader.
It is intended for international use, so it has a european adapter and supports many languages.
The international version is a Chinese device with Unlocked bootloader and is flashed with an unofficial global rom to support many languages because the Chinese version of mi8 only has Mandarin and English languages by default.
If you notice package contents the "International" one says Chinese manual while the Global one says English manual.
I hope i helped you.

If you flash GSI ROM or Pixel3 ROM with TWRP on Mi8 global can bootloader be relocked or will it brick?
when it comes with an unlocked bootloader, which one is safe to install a fastboot China rom and lock the "clear all and lock" bootloader after it unlocks with our "mi unlock tool" account so that in the case of brick we can restore it with our account.

NONE - if you lock your bootloader back, you first need the version of your phone with a STOCK ROM (Chinese, or Global) put back on your phone (ALL partitions MUST be back to stock) or you WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE and only an Authorized EDL account can recover your phone (which they aren't giving out anymore). The Bootloader DOES NOT allow locking with a different ROM/REGION. This has been stated MANY times over LOTS of threads. That leaves a problem with places like GEARBEST and many other vendors who give you a chinese version phone with a GLOBAL version ROM and the user locks the bootloader only to get a brick.

New User - Help with unlocking bootloader - please read

Hello. First let me explain my situation.
So, today i bought a used Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (SD)
I have a problem. I dont know if my phone is unlocked. When the phone is booting up, on the bottom it says unlocked, then it changes to powered by android.
Last year i had a Xiaomi Redmi 3 which i unlocked myself.
I downloaded the MiUnlock Tool from the official website, when i signed in it was authenticating my account with success (I dont know if i should ask for another permission for unlocking, as i already asked for permission for the Redmi 3 a year ago). When i clicked unlock, first time it went to 50% and it said with green Phone already unlocked. When i clicked unlock again it said unable to recognize phone error 1, or something similar to that, i did chech the drivers in the program, everything was fine. I tried that two more times, same problem.
In developer options in the 'MI unlock status' it already says 'unlocked'
The questions:
1.How do i chech if my bootloader is unlocked ?
2.If it is not unlocked, do i have to ask for permission from Xiaomi ? If so, how long is the waiting time (i heard that now its longer than before)
3. The phone is with Global MIUI firmware. Do i have to flash chinese developer firmware ? And for that does the bootloader to be unlocked, or its a step that has to be taken in order to unlock the bootloader ?
I searched on some subforums buts its been a long time since ive done this, so i thought i'd ask here.
Thanks in advance. Sorry for the long post, but i hope you'll read the whole thing.
1.It seems that your phone is already unlocked. You can check it like you already did; under developer options and startup.
2.I heard they gave up the 'permission to unlock' procedure. Not sure though. You only need to unlock bootloader when it is locked.
3.You should flash the global developer rom. Firmware is included. Although you can also flash the China version if you want.
I would flash the global developer through MiFlash tool and after that twrp and possibly some custom ROM if you want. When flashing custom roms, you should always check for the newest firmware before flashing and right after wipes flash that firmware before rom flash. https://www.google.com/amp/s/forum....nt/firmware-xiaomi-redmi-note-4-t3760917/amp/

Curtana - Fastboot miui 12

Hello.
I downloaded Fastboot images of miui 12 for my remi note 9s but, cannot flash the images because the first error is something like "lock state" when Fastboot tried yo erase boot.
My device is almost 2 months in my hands and cannot unlock bootloader because I will loose warranty.
Search Google but there's a lot of similar problems with other models too.
Impoetant, my device ia updated to miui 12 stable but downloaded 720mb and the Fastboot images are almost 6 gb
Thanks.

You have to unlock your bootloader before flashing anything iirc, even if it's the Xiaomi approved, signed, original factory firmware. You can re-lock the bootloader afterwards and everything should be the same. I don't think Xiaomi phones have a "digital fuse" or something that permanently marks a phone as having been unlocked once (or that service centers care), but don't quote me on that.

Question POCO X3 GT (chopin) - How to change from GLOBAL firmware to INDONESIA stock firmware?

I have the GLOBAL version of POCO X3 GT (chopin) 8GB/256GB and its a good device but the Google Dialer is making the whole phone unusable becuase of its Call Recording.
1) It does not have Automatic recording for all calls
2) Even after manually recording calls it takes ages to search for recorded files as there is no way to access them.
I do not want to root my phone for security reasons however I came across some posts which mention that the INDONESION firmware has MI Dialer & Contacts instead of Google which is enough incentive to void my warranty and try to change firmwares.
It has been a couple of years since I last played with custom roms, bootloader, fastboot flashing, etc. So I would appreciate if you guys can help me with a few questions:
1) Bootloader unlocking: Whats the best method for Poco X3 GT
2) Method to flash different region stock firmware
3) Is it safe to re-lock the bootloader after the new region firmware is flashed? or do I need to leave the bootloader unlocked?
1. use the official xiaomi bootloader unlock tool
2. Easy, just download the region fastboot rom you want and extract them. Flash via MiFlash -- pay attention to tick clean all in the corner of the screen if you don't want your device to be bricked
3. don't relock, if you lock the bootloader on other region firmware, you will be bricked

Oddly enough, this was not my experience. I unlocked my bootloader, flashed the Indonesia version 13.0.5.0 fastboot image using MiFlash using the clean all option. Then after booting and setting up the phone, it offered the update for version 14.0.1.0. I let the phone complete the update. Once the update finished and the phone had booted up again I rebooted it to bootloader mode and ran the command fastboot oem lock. The phone went through a factory reset and then booted successfully to the new phone setup dialogue.
Also to mention that I did also experience problems with 5GHz WiFi with version 13.0.5.0 but these problems were resolved after the version 14.0.1.0 update.

Even after update to 14.0.1.0 my 5Ghz wifi did not work. After waiting months I have just flashed back to global 14.0.2.0.TKPMIXM firmware yet still 5Ghz wifi is not working. Can someone guide how to fix it? Have I messed up its baseband or something during flashing?
Still unlocked bootloader?
As a comparison, whenever I unlock the bootloader on my Nokia 7 Plus and flash a custom ROM, I am not able to use 5GHz WLAN. It only works after relocking the bootloader and flashing stock firmware.
I am not sure if this was the same with the X3 GT and I cannot test it anymore as my wife took the phone and I am now using a X4 GT.
