Galaxy s9 unlocked wifi calling t mobile - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

I wanted to let everyone know that Wi-Fi calling works on the Galaxy S9 unlocked lock version with T-Mobile

Confirmed. USA unlocked version works with T-Mobile US Wifi Calling

I've got an unlocked S9+ from Samsung, I'm on Verizon, and I don't even see the option for WiFi calling. Where is the option located? Does it show up after you activate on T-Mobile? I've asked Verizon if it can be provisioned to the phone and they said it is... Could anyone point me in the right direction?

This was a known issue on the unlocked S8/S8+ as well. There were some semi-convoluted workarounds, but it wasn't as simple as a check box. I bought the unlocked version knowing full well I'd face some Verizon issues, but will likely be transitioning off them in a few months anyway.

I'm on an unlocked Blackberry Keyone on verizon and had thought so as well. Somebody on Crackberry forums posted a solution for wifi calling that ended up working for me, but I had to call Verizon as well. I preordered my S9+ the other day and am disappointed wifi calling is not available out of the box, but ultimately not surprised. Hopefully there will be a workaround. Glad it is for the T-Mo guys.

Okay. This morning I'm going to eat my own words on one thing. I woke up and overnight, a Visual Voicemail app had installed itself from the Samsung store. Low and behold, it talked to Verizon and I can see my voicemails. At this point, only Wi-Fi calling is missing.

Wifi calling settings can be toggles in the dialer. The 3 dots, settings then wifi calling.

What is the name of the app? I can't find anything in the Samsung store that appears to be a Verizon VVM app.

I don't see it listed either. That's really weird. I wouldn't have known it was installed if I hadn't seen the notification. It works with Verizon though.

This may be more detailed than you guys need, but if you can find the app in GALAXY apps and use Lightflow, you're there. I don't know how the Voicemail works standalone, but I wanted the LED indicator and the sound of my choice. Voila !
This app is available through GALAXY APPS, not Samsung Apps. I got it to work, without rooting, using Lightflow as follows:
Open Lightflow
Choose Notification Settings
Choose red "+" plus sign at the bottom right
Choose "From System event, battery, gps, etc.
From "Select system notifications to add", roll down to Voice Mail, check the box, choose "Add"
This will add Voicemail to your Lightflow notifications list, and then you have to pick your settings for it.
On Lightflow's Notification page, find dark blue "Voicemail" and open the "three dots" to the right, choose "settings"
The setting menu is a "slide to the right" type menu. I used "light" , enable light, choose a color, etc. I chose dark blue to match the icon.
So now, I have a dark blue "Voicemail" icon in my apps, and Lightflow makes it chime the sound I chose and lights up the LED at the top of the S9, in dark blue, and it blinks, so I know a voicemail is there. It also shows up on the notification panel.

Does the unlocked version s9+ support T-Mobiles band 71

Not on the unlocked version. There are a few hidden WiFi calling settings, but none actually stay set to on. Unless someone has found a way, I'd have to say no at this point.

Many retail mobiles have "Wifi Calling" / "Vowifi" function but not any menu entry to enable , The APP can check the hidden function and enable it if can use.

My phone kept switching to edge because the wcdma signal in my area is very low but 3 bars of edge is worse than 1 bar of hsdpa+ (no lte in enterprise al) so I choose wcdma only and I always have signal. You can set preferences or choose certain signals only but be aware if you change to a specific signal only and it's not there you will loose service... If you ever need to reset the settings and can't remember the code removing the sim card and reinstalling it resets back to default.
Here's where I found this I take no credit but I can confirm it works on the at&t version of the One.

This is all I get.
Awesome! I just got mine today (Australian version) and don't have the mobile carrier menu, which I think is ridiculous. This did the trick for me to disable LTE
This is the procedure I have used to disable LTE after finally figuring out that my "missed calls with no notification whatsoever" issue (unless caller leaves a VM) was caused by having LTE enabled. Something to do with the One having to switch to HSDPA for voice and the handoff not working right. Sucks not using LTE but I can't be missing calls....
Works a treat, too bad we have to dive into a Service Menu to choose our network preferences.... Thanks ATT...

How long will this maintain your selected network? I've used this many times on past phones, but carrier settings have frequently reverted the setting automatically. at the least, it will reset itself on boot (which isn't necessarily that big of a deal, unless you're Dev-ing and rebooting frequently.). If rooted, there are a number of ways to be able to easily select your desired connection type and have it stick. glad to hear this has worked for your needs so far.

It will revert back after air plane mode/disabling data and on restarts. I just use the app if I notice I'm on edge which is rare and pretty obvious. This is my first smart phone ever since my htc excaliber windows phone that I haven't run unofficial software on. it's just a great package and I feel I'll deal with more issues rooted than I do stock. Can't wait for 4.3 next week the ONLY thing I miss is battery percentage in notification bar lol
I would like to have WCDMA/GSM (auto), but that option is not present.
I'm guessing WCDMA preferred would do the trick? I currently have GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto but I don't use LTE..

Here's a little trick for anyone that's rooted - If you want to be able get the Preferred network mode list when selecting Settings>Mobile Data>Network Mode, you have to change your sku ID in /system/customize/ACC/default.xml. Using a text editor (I always just use the text editor built in to Root Browser), find
Code:
<item type="integer" name="sku_id">7</item>
almost at the end. 7 is ATT's sku, and gives you things like ATT's Data Icons and lying signal bars, but will also enable the NFC icon in the status bar when it's on and remove the Preferred Network mode from Settings. Changing this to 11 will set it as TMobile - Tmo data icons and other tmo settings (I believe T Mobile has the Preferred Network mode settings as well). Changing it to 42 will set it with WWE device settings, so you'll get generic HTC data icons, signal bars that actually work, network mode settings, etc. Obviously Save and Reboot after making the change.

WiFi calling.

While in Mexico next month can I WiFi call to the US on my g3 ?
I have the HTC One (M8) and did my update (Which added the Wi-Fi calling app). I am currently in Mexico (Been here since Saturday) and I couldn't get the Wi-Fi calling to kick in while connected to a Wi-Fi. Everytime I tried to connect by enabling the Wi-Fi the location part of the Wi-Fi calling app would kick in and I would get a message something to the effect that wi-fi calling wouldn't work in my current location (Not exact words but that is what it would tell me). So I decided to turn off the locate me feature in the Wi-Fi calling app and enter my home address (from the US) and it said confirming address took a while and it seemed like nothing happened. A little while later all my text messages and my voicemail s started to show up on my phone and the Wi-Fi calling icon showed up on my status screen.
I'm going to be honest. I was also tinkering with the network connection settings and manually selected cdma/lte in the network mode and enabled Domestic voice and data. I just wanted to get some type of service (i didn't care if it was going to go into roaming because I needed to make calls back to the states). So I'm assuming I am using the Wi-Fi calling feature because I don't have the data portion on the phone turned on and I don't have international voice or data enabled. But I will find out on my bill next month.
If I'm really on Wi-Fi calling mode then the key (i think is to trick the location servive of the Wi-Fi calling app to think you in the US by typing in an address in the US and not letting the app locate you automatically to Mexico....
I was trying to upload screen shots from my phone but the web browser let's me. I will pots the images after the 19th..

I just returned from Mexico and had turned the wifi calling on my last day their. At first worked great made a few calls back and it worked crystal clear. Then it started to ask for location I tried everything even when it did accept a location over the border in the U.S.(I was in a border town) it stopped working. My friend who has the wifi calling from T-mobile had no problem. Hopefully Sprint (lol) will get a clue.

TIps- Unlocked Non-Branded phone VoLTE enabled for VZW

So, I have an unbranded unlocked N8 I bought from Best-Buy assigned to my VZW account that was missing the "Advanced Calling" menu in settings. My wife's branded VZW S8+ has this menu. I tried the guides for other carriers to unlock WifI and HD calling, but alas, none of them worked. (I did however get the camcorder in the phone dial pad, but it didn't do anything) *******Still working on WifI calling**********
I spent hours testing settings in the IMS config via the shortcut app, all with no luck.
TIP: I called big red (VZW) on the phone and told them I bought the phone from bestbuy (didn't mention it was the non carrier unlocked version) and that WifI and HD calling menu wasn't on my phone. She told me my IMS wasn't configured on their end and she would update it. (This did not affect my grandfathered unlimited data plan)
Steps:
1. Call VZW and tell them you dont have access to HD voice on your phone and need help.
2. They will update the IMS on their end.
3. Turn off WifI, turn on mobile data.
4. Reboot and profit.
Ive uploaded a SS of the new option which wasn't there before I called VZW.
*****WARNING****** I seem to have lost the ability in the shortcut app to access the IMS launcher settings. Not sure if the 83mb update I took today caused it or not. Just warning you. I can still get into WifI calling via the app, however, it still crashes every time I get into it.
(Yes I know I shouldn't have taken any updates while we wait on eng. code to be released. Oh well I guess. )

Nope; works out of the box with Sprint & T-Mobile; haven't tested my AT&T SIM
You can get into IMS Settings by using Nova Activity launcher; under DEBUG INFO > IMS Information all should be true; if not VoLTE isn't enabled on the account or provisioning isn't completed; this can be done with a simple reboot.
Also; IMS Service Switch, make sure VoLTE Video is on for video calling; if/when VZW uses universal RCS profile you will have access to "iMessage" like features which Sprint/T-Mobile can currently use.
The Sad thing is total wireless morons have no clue what an ims is...

Thanks for the guide. Unfortunately after recent official Oreo software update, can't get into IMS Settings using either Nova Activity Launcher/Shortcut maker or through any other app.
Is there any way to enable "IMS Service Switch" thereafter enable VoLTE so that VoLTE option would appear under Settings->Mobile Networks?
Please suggest.
Thanks.

Question How to enable VoLTE and VoWIFI on AT&T with unlocked Pixel 6?

Hi folks,
The title pretty much says it all. I've got a new unlocked P6 bought from Google, using it on AT&T here in the US. It doesn't show VoLTE and when I go in to turn on VoWIFI I get an error to the effect that "we couldn't turn on VoWIFI."
The VoLTE worked out of the box on my prior phone (OP6T) but I never attempted VoWIFI with it.
Is there a special process to go through, or do I need to chat up the ATT reps? It's possible I'm not provisioned appropriately; my SIM is the same SIM I've been using on several phones over a good number of years.
Before I go in "cold" to a conversation with them I'd prefer to know exactly what to ask them for.
Thanks
Here's their whitelist:
Note this is the latest updated list (edit)
I had to have them enable it for me. I did it via chat support. It broke the ability took make regular calls but a quick call back (from a different phone) and it was fixed.

I posted (edited) the updated whitelist, with more models and harder to read
I double checked my devices... but the proof will be when they still are working.
Lol, what could go wrong?
Yeah, be afraid, be very afraid
On with chat now. Just gave them my IMEI. We shall see soon
OK, I'm all set. I think, or maybe I hope.
The chat function worked well. After getting past the chatbot I spoke with a real agent, explained my need, and she quickly took my IMEI and got it set up in the system. I got a text quickly that some ATT stuff got activated (I'll be able to turn on spam blocking and such). I was able to go in after a reboot and turn on wifi calling, leaving my preference as using Mobile Network.
I made a test call and it actually used the Wifi instead of mobile, which concerned me. I disconnected from my hotspot and tried a call, and mobile network calling worked fine, though.
Agent said my preference setting should take hold within 24 hours, in any case. We also went into the dial menu and verified VoLTE was turned on:
"Open dial and Type *#*#4636#*#* Choose Phone information option from test Screen. Now you can Enable VoLTE Support Provisioned Flag. Restart your device. Now you can see 4G LTE option under Network Bar. This will activate unlimited HD Voice Calls."
It was on and grayed out, so should be active. Just surprised there was no special icon showing in status bar like my old phone had.
Everything seems to be working so I think I'm good to go. Thanks for your help guys!
edit: after getting me set up she did a hard sell to get me to use the eIMEI for another ATT account. I declined.

See my post above. Enter the code in the dialer to access the hidden menu. It will bring up a screen that shows some settings, one will be the switch for VoLTE. For me it showed on but grayed out, which apparently is the correct setting. If it shows off, that would mean you aren't provisioned for it and need help from your carrier.

*#*#4636#*#* Thanks, very nice. On my N10+/pie this is the only place were the VoLTE setting can be seen as a toggle which is on. Yay.
Oh, one other note. Wifi calling seems to be working fine, though I haven't had a chance to check its integration with Google's visual voicemail.
What I notice is that the decision to use wifi instead of mobile is kinda hair-trigger. At my home, LTE bars are low but calls always work just fine. However, now with wifi calling turned on (with preference being mobile network), the system usually decides to use wifi anyway due to low signal. I also noticed at a grocery store, where my phone auto connects to their wifi, that when I was in the back of the store (weak LTE) it switched to wifi calling mode, then switched back to regular mode in the front of the store (strong LTE signal).
So, the system is conservative and moves over to wifi pretty often rather than treating it like a last resort. I guess that is good behavior.

I have an unlocked P6 direct from Google on AT&T. I have it greyed out but on. Does that mean I need to contact AT&T?
I had never gotten wifi calling set up on anybody my previous phones, so I definitely needed to get that turned on/provisioned for my account. The rep also told me that adding my non-ATT IMEI was needed; indeed several options became available once that was done. I don't think anybody this was needed for VoLTE though.
So pat of this might just have been due to my account history.
To cap this off, I got a wifi call just now and it transcribed fine.

Not needed for VoLTE on AT&T as I can switch the sim card between my AT&T N975U1 and unlocked N975U seamlessly. However I never use wifi, tethering or more advanced features on these two devices... so no idea about that.
