?? (ROOT) ?? - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 General

........................................................................................................................
Is there root available for the Verizon Note 3 after the latest software update from Samsung without downgrading or special ROM ?
I know this phone is old and probably a lot of people have already got rid of it for a new device but I still use the Note 3 and was just wondering thanks
........................................................................................................................

Root, bootloader unlock & custom recovery were available long time.
I have the same sm-n900v & am running Lineage 14.1(Nougat), I even flashed Lineage 15.1 (Oreo) but removed it due to gapps crashing.
Use the XDA android app to go to my device, u will find many threads for our fon

I just bought one off Swappa that has CM 12.1 and I have issues as well.. it's almost as if the SIM isn't reading 100% of the time, I'll get the exclamation where the LTE usually is and my data will drop. I also get a TON of Google Play Services failures.

For me this rom works very well, the only problem is i dont have incoming calls. battery, signal, wifi, mobile data, etc works fine
@DNak206 @gathithow Who is your service provide and the model of your note 2. I am not having any of those problems any more.
I am on a Verizon Note 2 model I605 withe the latest official CM 12.1 nightly BUT my service provider is net 10 with the ATT sim card. So I was having all the problems you guys had.
I switched to the ATT version of the Rom for the T0lete build and flashed the Agni Cm12.1 Kernel
[AGNi][CM] 11-11-2015 AGNi pureCM v4.4.8r3 I605
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2608679
Make sure if you get boot loops to use PSN_pureCM_11_12+_smdk4x12_ANYROM-AROMA-v4.4.8r3_I605_OC.zip Instead notice the smdk4x12 in there. no problems with cell , mms gps etc.
For battery drain install the xposed frame work then install greenify from the play store and then enable it in the moduels list. then run greenify and put it in boost mode and then check every box.
Also download power nap from the play store or become a beta tester for in on Google Plus and enable the two/ all options. Then install the Xspoded module called prevent running and enable it in the xposed list.
I also have Tasker installed, to set the max running background apps to 4. I can listen to music for 12 hours and still be at 50% and the end of the work day.
PLEASE let me know if you have any questions or need any help.

What recovery to flash is the best for the Note 2? I may spring for the $75 sboot downgrade service so that I can flash a real recovery and get good performance. The Note ii sprint is great on CM 12.1. Wow. Now I need to do it on verizon.

I have been using the clockwork mod here https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=i605 . can you Odin back to stock for you boot loader and then unlock it. Then root it and then flash your rom and recovery with out having to pay the 75 dollars.

Really? Thank you for your comment. I did not realize that clockwork mod was the recovery on that downloads site. I had to use Philz recovery on another not two.
So I have a later version i605 that is an ND7 running 4.4.2. I was under the impression that the best I could get was Safestrap and run something like Alliance. Are you saying that I can odin back to ?which ROM? and then I can odin or via download mode place a recovery that opens things up? Have you done this with an ND7? I was under the impression that Verizon locked down the 'SBOOT' so that a custom recovery could not be odin'd.
You help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Here is a similar video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9u11EyOaBY
just a heads up it took me many tries to unlock my boot loader when I had to odin back to stock.
it wold fail, or not detect, or would work halfway, I then finally got it to work.
I do not know for sure what my bootloader was . I was on cyanogen mod 12 an odined to 4.4 or 4.2 i do know i was and still have the nd7 modem/base band installed
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2272066
let me know if any of this has helped.
Adam and xda have done a couple different bootloader version unlocks for the note 2 each unlock has a different name.

CM13 works fine so far on the Note 2, maybe even better than CM12 did. I am running it on a Note 2 and my son is running it on his Note 2. So far so good.
how does CM13 handle the S-Pen? are some of the features still usable? (like hold on screen for screenshot, scrolling, hover, etc.. )
Thanks!

any news from lineahe os rom for vs985 other lg g3 have this rom
I would look in the Original Development forum for any news possibly if it ever comes to the VZ985. From the Lineage OS web site, it only lists the D855, so until they update that page, or if someone else downloads the source and ports it to the VS985, I doubt we'll see it, especially since this is over 2 years old and most developers have probably moved on to bigger and better things.
And just because other versions of a phone have it, doesn't mean it will be available for all versions. It all depends on which versions of the phone the developers have.
thank you for info.. and wich the best rom for battery life?

I unfortunately can't help you there. First, I no longer have my G3 as it died back in December. Sad day.
Secondly, I ran stock, unrooted and I was able to get about 1.5 days on a full charge, as long as I didn't play my games. lol
Good news! LineageOS 14.1 will be rolling out for vs985 this week.

As it is an initial release, there might be some bugs, but as far as I know, I haven't found out any, but battery optimisation is not so good and the phone heats up. And I think many features are missing, because the file size of lineageos for d855 is around 390mb and that of vs985 is only around 350 mb.
I hope they'll add all of the features in future updates.
Also, if you were using substratum, you cannot use it in this rom very well because this is not a substratum (masquerade) enabled rom. I reverted back to Resurrection remix today.
Ive been running it since yesterday. some issues:
I can onlyget root through ADB, despite flashing the Super SU twice. They are aware of this issue
I couldnt' get Gapps to install correctly. That may be due to the fact that I tried to use The Aroma package. I'm not familiar with that one.
You cannot turn on developer options, tapping the build number 8 times only brings you to the home screen and a large logo that wont' go away until restart.
It's very early for this release and it looks good so far. I''ll be back, but I just bought this device (for development/learning purposes) and I want to try some more roms
Thanks for the heads up about early issues on LineageOS. When I saw they had a version for the VS985 I figured it might be worth some risk to check it out. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I couldn't get it to flash.
I am on Android Version; 5.0.1
Baseband; VS985-MPSS.DI.2.0.1.c1.13.00073-M8974AAAANPZM-1
Kernel; 3.4.0-perf-g2d182d3
Build number; LRX21Y
Software Version; VS98524B
I tried unsuccessfuly to flash the 35B bootstack so I could never get into LineageOS 14.1. (It looks for 35B during install) Maybe I will wait a while and see if LineageOS cleans up a bit before trying to flash it again.

New Root Method For Note 8 SM-N950U/U1 V7 Bootloaders
Rooted Nougat RomThis is last nougat rom made for note 8 it is prerooted with flashfire and safestrap preinstalled. It has CSC stuff for all carriers added. Its debloated slightly with knox removed. Some stuff may not work but im not sure as I cannot test but this stuff may include fingerprint and or face recognition. If stuff doesnt work it probably related to using pie modems and non-hlos on a nougat rom which you have no choice.
Downloads
Rooted_N950USQS3BRB4.rar
BL_N950_NOUGAT_V7.tar.7z
Includes Fingerprint and Face Unlock fix for above nougat rom. Just flash in BL slot in odin after everything else
Safestrap-4.10-B03-GREATQLTE-PIE.zip Will boot straight to safestrap only for pie roms
Safestrap-4.10-B03-GREATQLTE-NOUGAT.zip Will Give you the safestrap splash screen on boot
Directions
Safestrap Method
1. Extract system.img from the Rooted_N950USQS3BRB4.rar and copy to phone reboot to safestarp and flash system image reboot to download and flash BL_N950_NOUGAT_V7.tar.md5 in odin
Good luck testers.

@jrkruse Was there a particular reason RJ1 was chosen as the base combo instead of RG2?
The only difference I heard of was that RG2 actually was the DRK repair, where RJ1 did most of the other stuff.

it doesnt matter what v5 combo I am only using bootloaders on rooted rom and you just flash full combo system to be able to reboot to edl mode. The goal was to get root so safestrap can be used on Pie and thats been achieved.
This is excellent! Thanks guys!

can we add note 8 to description in batch file?
When flashing "COMBINATION_FA71_N950USQU5ARJ1_CL13942288_QB203914 89_REV00_user_mid_noship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5 "
should I press BL+AP+others or just BL?
similar question, when flashing COMBINATION_FA71_N950USQU5ARJ1_BOOTLOADERS.tar should i select BL only or AP?
My baseband version is N950U1UEU1AQ15 build number NMF26X.N950USQU1AQ15 but I see different versions from romreactor below, am I still ok to flash?
One main question, which V5 firmware version is best for this root method, as I am still on firmware N950USQU2BQLA.
The V5 firmwares range from android 8.0 Oreo to 9.0 Pie and thus my question is out of all the V5 bootloader versions below which one is best for this root method for me to update to from my current version.
N950USQU5CRG7,
N950USQU5CRIA,
N950USQU5DSC1,
N950USQU5DSD3,
Also, couple newbie questions, 1. pre rooted firmware means Android Pie or Oreo with root access enabled right?
2. Does this root method allow you to flash custom roms of pie?
Ok, so I have been out of the rooting game for a couple of years now due to needing an engineering kernel and then losing 20% battery capacity. With this I am interested as I am running 5DSF6 currently. With this, are we only able to do the initial rooted ROM and have root access and customize from there or can we load different ROMS? Also, are kernels still out of the question with this method as well?
Also, congrats on getting this to work.

There is only root available for nougat. The whole reason for all of this was to get people a pie rom that has the ability to boot to safestrap. Now this isn’t root but in safestrap you can flash zips just like you can with twrp or flashfire you can backup data or delete apps or modify system files and most everything you do you will still pass safetynet . Of course you can run a prerooted nougat rom or make your own but you would have to run the combo bootloader and boot img so your stuck with those limitations. Nothing has changed since this phone was first rooted with samfail method.
Sent using some kind of device I modified
People on v3 v2.5 or v2 or v1 bootloaders there is really no reason to stay on those older bootloaders since this method works for v5 if you choose to use this method you will be updated to v5 bootloaders

Because newer isn't always necessarily better. I'm of the minority and there are others like me who prefer to stay on the earlier firmwares.
The hopes of getting a full root early on was another reason, where had we blindly rolled up to the latest, it could have locked us out from taking advantage of a possible working root on an earlier BL. One rule of thumb is to never just jump on updates. We call them lock outs...and we kind of saw this with the original samfail root where those who updated could not roll back; but of course now it's possible which is great. Thanks again for making this happen and saving those who jumped early that never thought they would see a form of root.
There of course other reasons I like to stay put on earlier firmware versions, but that's for another conversation. @butchieboy, @KennyG123 and I go way back and they know.... We enjoy our Note 3's on 4.3, Note 4's on KK 4.4, Note 5 on MM etc...

[RECOVERY] TWRP 3.3.1-0 For P580 OREO Compatible! [UNOFFICIAL]

The long wait has come to an end.
This TWRP was built for P580, I cannot ensure that it works on other variants, but it should work on P585, please test it and tell me.
Your warranty is now void and all that..
This TWRP is only compatible with oreo, due to some mess Sammy did with the bootloader, it works flawlessly on oreo roms, stock and custom!
Proofie
Enough talking, here is the DL link: https://mega.nz/#!MJFlyQ7L!AcEEkbvw7aGMGLnAU8OPEVxiBhfFjThHNTvqx8CMbxQ
Use odin, put this tar file in AP, flash and you're good to go [If you're on stock rom, don't let the device boot to system as it will kill TWRP, overwriting it with stock recovery]
Remember:
You won't have access to data if it is encrypted, you'll have to format data, on the wipe menu, at the side of "Advanced Wipe" there is "Format Data"
If you plan on using the stock rom, remember to disable DM-verity
Btw, if you plan to stay on stock rom, but you broke knox and want secure folder back, try this https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/module-smali-patcher-0-7-t3680053
Please come back and tell us if it worked! (I didn't make it to work on my debloated rom)
Thanks @marky_p for writing instructions on how to install
What is working:
Everything except samsung encryption, and any <8.1 rom
Built with P580KXU1CRJ7 source, on minimal manifest twrp, android-8.1.
Sources available:
Device tree: https://github.com/unknowwiiplayer/android_device_samsung_gtanotexlwifi
Kernel: https://github.com/unknowwiiplayer/kernel_samsung_exynos7870
Instructions on how to build are on device tree's readme.md
Now please powerful devs, bring lineage 17 to us, please!!!
Reserved, because reasons
I love you ? I will test it asap on the P580!
Dang, the touch bug ist still there
Thanks very much for your work. I'll test it on my P585Y. Hope you can port android 9/10 oneui rom and lineageOs for these devices too.
I've tested twrp on my Tab A P585Y. It worked but sometimes touch is laggy and cannot do swipe action. Thanks very much for your work. Hope the next version better
Installed it on my P580 has all touch problems That plagued all the other TWRPs for this tablet. So I guess I wrong about The fact all the other versions were based off of the android Marshmallow source code as being the cause of that. That set aside it seems to work great with Oreo!!! Greatjob!!!

Thanks a lot
i tried flashing first time round on P585y
Twrp - worked fine - bit buggy/laggy on the swipe
flashed No Verity Opt Encrypt 6.1
then got stuck in this endless loop of booting - wouldnt even get to the samsung screen (still have access to download mode and recovery mode usning the associated button combination)
so i re-flashed stock firmware
re-flashed twrp
flashed supersu
again got stuck in the same endless boot loop......
any help how can i solve this?
Tried again tonight after flashing firmware ,
exact steps
Developer Options unlock Oem and allow USB Debbugging
reboot download mode
install SuperSU using ZIP (actually RAR file... would this make difference?)
went back to TWRP home menu
Reboot System.... STUCK in BOOT LOOP (doesnt even get to Samsung section - only gets to "Samsung Galaxy Tab A6 with S PEN powered by Android Page")
have waited 7 minutes now - still suck...
am i doing something wrong? is it because im using a P585y (lTE model)
i have noticed some unable to mount /data errors at times.
do i need wipe? clear cache/davlik? if so when in the process.

Actually no, I hate OneUI, for me the current firmware is the pinnacle of Samsung experience, sorry
I do have some plans but I'm big noob and college will kill me if I focus on developing a ROM now :c
Okay, so I have SM P580 running 8.1. I can flash TWRP fine, but cannot flash anything after that without a bunch of errors!?!?
Thanks...

I think that I'd have to build it again for your model using the latest kernel sources for your device, but for now I'm busy with college's online classes
I left instructions on my github sources, you can give it a try on building your own TWRP, as I don't have your device, I cannot ensure that if I biuld it will work, but it should tho

Yes… was I not supposed to?
Also, could anyone direct me to the correct files to root this thing... enlighten me as to the process? I can't find any working info on it!?!?
Sorry to ask, but I'm new to this tablet(sm p580) & it is quite frustrating TBH.
Thanks guys...
… crickets up in here

MIUI 12 to MIUI 10

Hello,
I am having issues like heating, battery draining and frame drops in almost all games I play on MiUi 12-PocoF1. I dont wanna root the device for some other kernel/OS.
I am thinking about downgrading from MIUI 12 to MIUI 10. I am new to this and got the following concerns:
1. Would downgrading brick my device? if so, any chance of getting it back to working ?
2. Would this affect the security features? I learnt that rooting compromises security and many apps dont run on such devices, specially payment apps.
3. By doing the downgrade, would I still get the google's security patch ? If not, how to get em?
4. Any suggestions regarding How to downgrade or choose any other OS?
My Target is: Downgrade/Upgrade to an OS that wont ruin the performance of my device while keeping security intact.
Please Help.
Thanks and Regards.

You don`t need to root devices to install custom OS
1. Would downgrading brick my device?

The answer is simple: you won`t be able to find MIUI 10 for your device. Also, you will have to unlock the bootloader to perform such things, just like for custom OS

Wipe data, flash stock ROM

Magisk Hide + MagiskHide Props Config (module) + Universal SafetyNet Fix (module) (this even hides unlocked bootloader).
I have no probems at all.

Most-likely, but why would you need it anyway? Use microG

Unlock the bootloader
In case of MIUI:
Download fastboot stock ROM and unzip it
Go into fastboot mode
run flash_all.bat (if you want to relock the bootloader, and you usually don`t want to do this, run flash_all_lock.bat)
In case of custom ROM:
To find which suits you best: Google it, search XDA threads. Usually people choose one of these: Lineage, Havoc, Reserruction, Revolution
To flash: go to official website or search for official thread on XDA (preferred)
If I were you, I would switch to custom OS or clean existing ROM with root

microG is to be used for what ? updating security patches? and Which custom do you strongly suggest ? Also, after installing twrp and magisk,, my device would be finally rooted right ?
After installing Custom rom, can the twrp+magisk be uninstalled and bootlocker be locked again ?
I am sorry for asking such questions.. coz I am pretty sure once I start, I wont be stopping there, so trying to learn as much as possible.
Thanks a lot. You helped me a lot with your answers.

Every android comes with google services core preinstalled, and many apps use it. But google spies on you, unlike microG, which is open source alternative to it.

HavocOS, EvolutionX or LineageOS.com (for last one search one with microG preinstalled)

Installing Magical through recovery isn't recommended, but possible. Search for Magisk's docs on GitHub for instructions (I will help if you want)

You don't need root to install custom OS, just unlocked bootloader. Yes, after flashing you can lock bootloader, but you usually don't need to. With modules I listed above, my own phone doesn't know that the bootloader is unlocked.

Got it , I will be downloading all the stuff, multiple custom roms as well... just in case, ...and will ping you back here as soon as possible in case I get lost again.
Thanks again
I would also like to inform you about Google Service Core.
The one that Google gives you spies on you, but if you need Google Play Games you will have to use it.
An alternative to it is microG. It falsifies all data that isn't needed for work, but it doesn't include Google Play Store and Google Play Games. An alternative to Store is Aurora store or Yalp Store
Whatever you choose, find tutorial on XDA on how to install it. You will have to install one of these, because 90% of apps depend on them.
Note that many OSs have a version that comes with microG preinstalled (like microG's fork of LineageOS), so if you choose privacy over Google Play Games, you should choose it.
